Ehhh it was AIIGHT.. I was looking forward to coming here all weekend since my boo and I haven't had a brunch experience in a while! The waitress was really nice and sweet, but you could tell it was her first week as she was nervous and constantly forgetting us. I didn't fault her though, she had a lot of tables to serve and she did her best! Now the food chile! Lordy... I'm not really a breakfast snob by any means, but I ordered the sunrise scramble which sounded appetizing from the menu. the eggs were hard and the cheese was stuck in between the various meats. It had bacon which was slightly undercooked and the sausage did not look good at all, so I avoided them like the plague. The HIGHLIGHT of my breakfast on Sunday was their famous Cinnabiscuit. It was delicious, and it came with extra frosting. My boo had the french toast plate, which tasted overly salty to both of us, he said his Cajun Style Benedict was just "OK". to him. We enjoyed the drinks, as they had the right amount of juice/alcohol ratio, but at $9 a glass for a Mimosa, it wasn't worth another round. I wish, we had a better experience with the food, because I would go back based off the drinks and ambiance, if i tried something else on the menu. However, the the BILL came out to almost $80 for breakfast, which is HELLA outrageous for the basic quality food we were served. I expected more from Buttercup, but no love lost. First timer here & Greatly enjoying my Florentine omelet breakfast. Omelet is perfectly cooked & seasoned & chockfull of spinach & bacon. Hash browns properly browned. Whenever the beau and I find ourselves on the other side of the bay, we always make it a point to stop by Buttercup Grill. Invariably, like today, this ends up being early afternoon on Sunday, so I get to "ooh" and "ahh" over the adorable little church ladies in their impeccable suits and coordinating hats. We love to grab a couple of seats at the counter and watch the servers in action. It's practically theater. There is a genuine affection among the employees that carries over into the way they treat their guests. No matter which section you're sitting in, you can ask anyone for anything...they're all in it together and they each go out of their way to make the customer happy. Foodwise, think upscale diner/coffee shop. In the year-plus I've been going there, I have never been disappointed. Pancakes, waffles, omelettes, bacon & eggs, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, salads, etc. Enormous portions, so don't even consider ordering an appetizer. I must confess that for years, I pooh-poohed the idea of coming to the Buttercup Grill, one of a mini-chain of family-run coffee shops. Yes, I would drive by on my way to Jack London Square, roll down my window, and say "pooh-pooh". OK, I didn't do that, but at least I'm honest enough to admit I was thinking it. After all, it's just a Denny's-style motel coffee shop wannabe, right? Well, after exhausting all my other breakfast options in the area on a nippy Saturday morning, I decided to give it a try. Walking in, I was feeling rather smug thinking I was probably right all along. However, the hostess was quite nice and seated me in a mini half-booth at which point the veteran waitress poured me a mug of coffee with no fuss. OK, this is a good experience so far, and from that point forward, my mug was never empty. I perused the robust breakfast menu of benedicts, skillets, waffles and other heart-stoppers and landed on the $9.59 Daniel B. Omelette, which sounded like a hearty vegetarian selection with avocado slices, mushrooms, cream cheese, jack and cheddar cheese, artichoke hearts, and bell pepper. I just didn't know I was competing on Man Vs. Food. When it landed with a thud on my table, what I saw was a monstrous yet surprisingly fluffy omelette overstuffed with all the ingredients. Particularly prominent were the avocado slices, which were spilling out of the pocket along with a major dollop of sour cream (see photos). It was a bit overwhelming but dinerifically delicious. I don't know who Daniel B. is, but I certainly don't hope he had a coronary from eating too many of these egg dishes. It came with a crispy flat of hash browns that merely added insult to injury but in, of course, a tasty, can't-help-myself kind of way. There were many bread options, but I felt a desire to try the Buttermilk Biscuit given the name of the place. Oh, who am I kidding? I just wanted a biscuit. Again, another thud on the table occurred, this time with a mountainous biscuit sitting on a rather large pile of melting butter (see photo). Clearly this was not going to be healthy eats, but it was awfully flaky and not too doughy. I was pretty stuffed and frankly quite satisfied with my meal and could have just sat there nursing my joe except for the fact that a group of church ladies were waiting to take over the booths. So I assume it was the Lord's wish for me to roll out of there before they had to call the paramedics. OMG. Visited this place during the pandemic which was outside sitting space. Debbie was my server and she made the best mimosa I have ever had with mask and gloves. She was extremely attentive and went above and beyond. Jessica one of the owners was kind enough to check and attend to my needs while Debbie was on break. Who knew this place was so cool? I've been here too many times to count, so I had to finally do a review.. This was my first time doing take-out/pick up. Sunday, 8/16/20- my sis and I both got omelettes (kitchen sink). I had a bagel on the side and she got toast. I had the potatoes on the side with the bell peppers mixed in and she had hash browns. We ordered off of DoorDash because their restaurant site was not accepting our credit card numbers for some reason.. anyway.. Got the 'ready' text, my sis walks in and the food is ready and in front! We go around the corner near Cost Plus and park to watch the trains. The food is piping hot!! They gave extra butters, a cream cheese, some jam, utensils, and extra napkins. So nice! The omelette was cooked perfectly. The ham, bacon, peppers, and mushrooms were so fresh. The cheese was melty. My bagel was perfectly toasted, as was her bread. The flavor was great. It was HUGE. Fresh. Just overall perfect! For eat-in, our service has always been very friendly and attentive but not overbearing! Drinks filled, food brought out quickly! Compatriots wanted breakfast for dinner and it worked well for them. The service checked in on us frequently which was nice even when it was semi busy. Any questions that we had were answered, and comfort food was what was advertised. I had gotten the humongous nachos with sauteed veggies added to get more of a vegetarian feel to it. Gives a sliiiiight bit of justification for me, although not much mind you. The nachos were oily but tey had a good variety of veggies tossed into the mix. I wanted more guac to balance things out. Everything was melted cheese and crunch though. Compatriots digged the breakfast dishes that they had gotten, notably the french toast. I'd stop by again for the service and the relaxed atmosphere with some friends late night. Things take a bit so keep that in mind if you're trying to do like a power lunch. Love the food here at Buttercup. We work nearby and have eaten here before and after their renovation. Almost feels like we're not in the right place! I was used to the homey feel from before, but it looks nice now. Come here hungry because the portions are big. Yesterday I ordered the sunrise scramble with bacon, sausage, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Yum! Their omlettes and scrambles are awesome, but their waffles are also tasty. For lunch I usually stick with their burgers, the wedge salad or their baked potato soup which is served with their warm fresh bread. Skip the long lines at Denny's or IHOP and come here. I took some out of town friends, who are immigrant Asian, for "American" food, meaning we eat with a knife and fork. I chose ButtercuP because it's reliable, easy to access, free parking, and pretty good. I used to eat lunch there regularly when I was member of Kiwanis, because that's where our meetings were. It's been very modernized, and very nice diner. The food was plentiful, but sort of commercial, solid. Highlights to me are the baked potato soup (very creamy, tasty with bits of bacon), and the burger and sandwiches (esp. Reubens, Pastrami) are fine. The entrees we ordered were ok, esp. Chicken Parmesan (plentiful, creamy pasta). The fried chicken and fish and chips were also ok.. plentiful but too much crust, but stil. pretty juicy. Best Biscuits and Sausage Gravy I have had in years, the biscuits were fluffy and the gravy just melted in my mouth. My wife who normally does not like this combo took a taste, and a couple more.
