By The Sea in Coronado was an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The restaurant has a beautiful coastal-Mediterranean atmosphere that feels elegant, relaxing, and perfect for a special night out. Every detail--from the inviting setting to the presentation of the food--made the evening feel memorable. The highlight of our visit was our server, Sebastian. He was genuinely welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu, attentive without ever being intrusive, and made excellent recommendations. His warm personality and polished service elevated the entire experience and made us feel truly taken care of. The food was delicious, the ambiance was stunning, and the service was outstanding. By The Sea is a wonderful addition to Coronado, and thanks to Sebastian's exceptional hospitality, we cannot wait to return. Highly recommended!

I went to By the Sea in Coronado for a late birthday dinner with friends, and we had such a great experience! Our server was amazing, and everyone was so attentive throughout the night. We ordered a little bit of everything, including the yellowtail crudo, tuna tartare, calamari, lamb cavatelli pasta, seared scallops, dry-aged ribeye, broccolini, and carrots. The dry-aged ribeye was seriously like butter, and the scallops were one of my favorite dishes of the night -- so good! The inside of the restaurant is also so cute and beautifully designed. It honestly doesn't even feel like you're in San Diego when you're inside. To top everything off, they surprised my friend and me with complimentary birthday cake at the end, which was such a sweet touch. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, and amazing service. I would definitely come back!

food was 10/10, just took a little longer than expected but not a big issue. i got the linguine and clams, best linguine and clams i've ever had. my boyfriend got the steak frites, steak was cooked to his liking and the fries were seasoned perfectly best part of our experience was cynthia, our server. this dinner was for my birthday and she made our experience very special. i would come back just for her lol. she was very attentive, even got me another drink because the one i ordered wasn't my cup of tea. she paid a lot of attention to the details and we really appreciated that would come back 1000% and would recommend anyone to come here

We went to celebrate our Anniversary and loved this Place, ambiance, service and Food everything excelente! The only reason I am giving 4 stars out of 5 is that they didn't offer an anniversary dessert, every restaurant we have celebrated in has done a great job, a decorate plate, candle with free dessert and makes it a special moment and a great picture but it didn't happed.

By The Sea is an apropos name for a new upscale bar and restaurant in the heart of downtown Coronado. It's located on the upper floor of a structure that houses a tavern below ground level. The ownership group (Black Swan Hospitality) poured in considerable resources to redesign the space to give an open-air ambiance as if you were on the Mediterranean coast. A central bar could seat at least 24 customers while the rest of the expansive dining area could hold well over 200 diners. Judging by the limited availability of reservations on OpenTable, the opening weeks have been popular and packed. I arrived right as they opened at 4 pm and headed straight to the bar where seating was first come, first served. A raw bar menu card featured oysters and caviar. The two-sided dinner menu listed shareable plates and salads on one page with the vegetables, pasta, and main dishes on the other page. A separate booklet contained an array of choices for alcoholic beverages. I ordered a shareable plate (Octopus) and a pasta dish (Lamb Cavatelli) for my meal. Each one was priced at $26, however the pasta arrived first. Fennel, chive, and breadcrumbs were sprinkled on top of the small pasta shells made from semolina dough. The ground lamb was mixed in as a ragu sauce. The gaminess of the lamb was noticeable, but it didn't bother me. I felt the preparation was simple and straightforward. The Octopus was disappointing in its presentation. If you look at my photo, it's difficult to see the tentacle which was cut into four pieces. At other places where I have ordered this item, the grilled tentacle was very prominent and quite often served intact as a whole piece. Here it was obscured by the other components which were crispy potato, cucumber, celery, tomato, and chili crisp. It was also one of the pricier versions I've encountered for the serving size. The quality and value of the food I tried were at a three star level. The service from the bartender along with the beautiful layout of By The Sea were aspects that rounded up my overall dining experience to four stars.

What a stunning restaurant in Coronado and such a different vibe, it makes you feel like you're in Miami! The ambiance is beautiful and aesthetic, with every corner picturesque and thoughtfully designed. Staff is very attentive and our server Jennifer was so nice, and really went above and beyond to provide great customer service. We've had salad, spicy cauliflower, pesto pasta and branzino fish. Everything was delicious and we even had leftovers to go. Overall loved it, for me was 10/10 and would definitely go back again!

Beautiful restaurant- very welcoming staff and ambiance was amazing. Our waitress was Kelly and she was the sweetest! We each got a drink and shared our appetizers and main course. We got: Hamachi Crudo - amazing flavor! Octopus - flavor was good, portion was not. Beet salad - a little disappointed as it was mostly greens and barely any beets, but tasty! Penne alla Mimmo - sooooo so good Grilled Branzino - also 10/10. Absolutely can't wait to go back! Amazing experience.

I was invited to experience By the Sea in Coronado as media one day before their grand opening, and I was beyond impressed from the second I walked in! The restaurant is absolutely stunning. Every detail feels intentional, elevated, and effortlessly coastal. I genuinely wanted to move in lol. The owners are also behind Nolita Hall, so it's safe to say they know how to create a beautiful space with an amazing atmosphere. The concept is inspired by the Mediterranean and the owners' travels along the Amalfi Coast, French Riviera, and Greek Isles, and you can really feel that influence throughout the entire experience. The menu focuses on vibrant coastal cuisine with thoughtfully sourced ingredients from local farmers and fishermen, and they've put just as much care into the wine program, featuring smaller family run producers with an emphasis on organic, sustainable, and natural farming practices. Most importantly, everything we tried was phenomenal. The food was fresh and flavorful, the cocktails were incredible, the service was warm and attentive, and the gorgeous setting made the entire night feel like an experience rather than just dinner. It's the perfect Coronado spot for celebrating a special occasion, an upscale date night, or getting dressed up for a girls' night out. Such a beautiful addition to San Diego's dining scene, and I already can't wait to go back!

This is exactly what Coronado Island needed. Located literally next to Yummy Sushi, you will find this amazingly elegant and fabulous dining option now. We dined in around 8:00pm on a Friday with a group of friends and were seated promptly inside. It was quite busy and got pretty loud amongst all the tables within so if you are looking for something quieter maybe try the outside area better. We enjoyed the hamachi, and the chicken is genuinely so tasteful and light for a major entree. I enjoyed the dessert as well so don't skip out on trying on of the waiters recommended options. Service was okay, I do wish they would have checked on us more often although we weren't in a rush as it was all in good company. We also finished with some after hour drinks at the restaurant across the street which is also a must try! Overall, very happy with the experience and would definitely come back again. I'm happy to see Coronado get better dining options available. Thank you!!

Walking into the restaurant and looking inside for the first time had me stunned. I loved how airy and fresh the interior was, even down to the linen uniforms was a nice touch. It's really a beautiful sight to see. When we got to our table I wanted to order the oysters and a drink. Both were really good. I wanted to go simple and ordered the linguine and clams while my friend ordered the branzino. The pasta was so simple but so flavorful. I was surprised at how balanced it was. At the end of dinner they gave us a post card that if you write in it they will send it out for you. I liked that little touch.

I'm visiting my son from Sacramento, he took me to dinner last night and Angel was so great to us...she made food recommendations and she was not wrong! Everything we had was delicious! Postcard is the cutest idea

We came here twice on our vacation, the first time we had the BEST server! Shout out to Shaun!! The second time we returned we had Aaron as our server and it was a night and day difference in service. Also the second night the food was okay, could use some more flavor and seasoning. We really enjoyed our first visit and we excited to try it again but due to the service and food quality the second time around we are unsure where we stand on this place... Ambiance was no doubt stunning, especially with the sunset views!!

We made a last-minute reservation, yet we were seated almost immediately. Our waitress, Cynthia, was absolutely wonderful and provided the best service we have ever experienced. We began with a few appetizers, including the mezze plate and oysters. Although a few items like calamari and the bone marrow bread were unavailable, the oysters were amazing, even for someone like me who is not typically an oyster fan; they were accompanied by various sauces and lemon wedges, which were quite delicious. The mezze platter initially came with only two pita breads, but the staff kindly provided more when we requested them for our group. While my friends ordered mocktails, I enjoyed a refreshing cocktail garnished with fresh dill and mint. For our main course, several friends ordered pastas and hamburgers, while I chose the steak and fries. Everyone enjoyed their pasta dishes. Although there was a slight delay with my steak because the kitchen had overcooked it and preferred to prepare a fresh one, they graciously provided us with some complimentary calamari. When the steak eventually arrived, I would have personally preferred a different sauce, but the meal was still quite good. As we were likely the last guests to leave due to our late reservation, we appreciated that we were not pressured to depart, and our waitress even took several photographs for us.

Located at the fairy landing, Spiro's is in a busy-ish part of Coronado. Parking is plentiful, but I can't remember off the top of my head if you have to pay for parking or not. But if you do it's not that bad. The restaurant itself is clean and offers outdoor and indoor seating with amazing views of Downtown on the other side of the Bay. Their patio is dog friendly! Plenty of seating and pretty clean. I have no issues with service. You order at the counter before you sit but last time we were there, the cashier is nice and friendly. I'm not sure if he was the owner or not but he was doing great making convo with us. Bonus they take military discount. Also, I see them constantly bussing tables and making sure everything is clean. Long story short, staff is doing their job the right way. Food is yummy and portions are good! I think they're pretty generous on their amount of meat that they give. The gyro fries are great to share! (I mean you can eat them on your own lol). The portion is pretty big! I like that their lamb isn't gamey. Their pita is always fresh. From the moment I walked in, the staff felt a bit pretentious and unwelcoming, which made the initial experience feel awkward. We came with a larger group to celebrate a family member's birthday, and the service at our table was mediocre at best. Our server wasn't particularly helpful or attentive, and there was very little acknowledgment that we were there celebrating a special occasion. With so many incredible restaurants in San Diego, a restaurant positioning itself at this level really needs the service to match. The food was decent, but inconsistent. The standouts for us were the babaganoush, chicken, patatas bravas, and saffron linguine. The hanger steak lacked flavor, the lamb was just okay, and the tuna was disappointing, especially for the price. We spent over $600 and left wishing the experience had felt more like the elevated dining experience Callie seems to be aiming for. Beautiful space and a few great dishes, but overall we left disappointed and probably wouldn't return. I hope this place treats their guests with more warmth and care in the future especially with the price points.
