April 8, arrived and seated right away with a Birthday card, ordered our drink and the power went out. Edie was our waitress, she was excellent, we had the Carrot Acho Chili soup which was excellent! Power was out so we decided to have salads, I had the Ceaser which was fabulous and my husband had the wedge. Full and happy and the power came on. We ended up splitting the fried chicken thighs and butter beans, mashed potatoes and pickled slaw. All was excellent but could have done without the dill pickle slaw. We arrived as a party of three at 5 pm and had to sit on the porch as the dining room was completely booked. Started off with an espresso martini as the old fashion was flavored. It had sufficient alcohol but not sufficient chocolate. We ordered the deep fried deviled eggs. Which had insufficient breading and no flavor. We did not finish them. I ordered the 16 oz ribeye which is over priced at 62. It was seared perfectly and cooked perfectly to medium rare. I had the mashed potatoes which could have been seasoned better. One guest had soda to drink and was charged full price for a third refill, $3.50 Other dishes ordered were the three cheese grits which were fairly good and would rather of had them instead of the mashed potatoes the bright spot was the service which was outstanding. Most importantly, the food was great. We both did the Date Night menu, choosing the boudin balls, Texas twinkies, both salads, crab/shrimp cakes, and beef tenderloin kabab. We also ordered the biscuits, which were great. Food was fantastic, with the Texas Twinkie and beef tenderloin really standing out. Wine pairings were perfect as well. However, the service was really slow. It took approximately 30 minutes between courses, and we were more than ready to leave by the time we got to the dessert course. All in all, we were there for about 2 hours before asking for dessert in a to-go bag. This is an OK restaurant. Nothing to write home about. Normally, in a small town one would cut them some slack in reviews, but if you're charging big city prices then big city comparisons kick in. The crab au gratin may be one of the most popular item choices, but it tastes like over cooked cheese with overly "seafoody" tasting crab meat fused within the greasy yellowish mess. It's also served in a strange dish with "compartments" though it looks like it would be one level dish because of all of the melted cheese. Instead of the soft bread it's served with, it would be better served with the hard bread that the chèvre cheese appetizer has. This dish is a miss. The grilled shrimp with sweet corn grits has wonderful large Gulf shrimp cooked perfectly. The seasoning is spot on and the roasted tomatoes with the creamy sweet corn grits are a perfect compliment to the shrimp. Would get this again in a second! read more

I made a reservation a week in advance. I recommend this route as there were plenty of people waiting. The customer service from the moment you step foot into the restaurant is amazing. We had a male waiter who was tall, with brown ear lobe length hair, and a beard. I hate that I don't recall his name but he was so attentive that if you just glanced his way he took note and came to check on you. He was amazing at removing all excess dishes. He suggested dishes that we loved. I had the country fried ribeye with crawfish gravy. I am still in awe at how delicious it was. I couldn't finish it. I even took a break and came back to it. I also tried the roasted carrot anchor soup. I'm not a huge fan of carrots, but this was amazing! So fulfilling and flavorful! For my entrée, I got the sweet chili Tempura Shrimp with mashed potatoes, which was amazing! The shrimp were pretty large and fried to perfection, the dipping sauce added the right bit of flavor, and the mashed potatoes were light and fluffy. For dessert, we had the warm butterscotch bread pudding, and that has to be one of the best desserts I've ever tried!! So light, filling, flavorful, rich, and sweet! My husbands meal was much better than mine. I ordered the surf and turf. The steak was ok, a bit chewy. The mashed potatoes were average and the shrimp was really not that great as they were very dry and overcooked. However my husbands steak was absolutely delicious. Two years ago I declared The Cabinet Grill's Lobster Topped Chicken Fried Riley with Hatch Chile Cream Sauce to be the pinnacle of Texas Chicken Fried Steak Cusine. Nothing has changed in 2 years. Still decadent. Still delicious. Still perfect. This time I tried the burrata as well. Good lord... this was the best I've ever had and the addition of the garlic oil and roasted eggplant to the burrata itself was sublime. We were about to walk out then our waiter came. Btw, they were NOT busy. We had enough time sitting there to decide what our whole order was. Took forever to get our drinks that came out the same time our salad did. The martini was flavorless even though ordered dirty. Waited on entrees...and waited... $62 filet was incredibly underwhelming but tasty. Not cooked as requested, I'd say half and half. Even if we wanted desert, we weren't going to get it there as we were ghosted by our waiter yet again. We had to forage ourselves for a to go container and ended up going downstairs to find out how to pay our bill. Our waiter came out of the kitchen, took our card and disappeared again. The bill finally came and we were given a sample of chocolate almonds. The ambience of the place was soured by the service. The place could use a cleaning and an update. The appetizers all looked so good it was hard to choose but I can definitely vouch for the Texas twinkies and Buffalo calamari! The ribeye steak was very good and easily shared between 2 people. Only knocked a star for service. When we arrived, 10 minutes before they opened at 5:00 pm for dinner, the front staff were not very eager to assist us. My only regret is not taking photos of our entrees. While the food was amazing, there were two things about this place that made us go hmmmmm.... There's a limit to the number of people per table so we had to divide our group of nine to two tables and we were seated far from each other. Our waiter was strange. We were served a nice shot of soup and we jokingly asked him if it was an alcoholic drink. He proceeded to school us on how that was illegal. At any rate, our appetizers and especially our entrees were very good. I had the flounder with the mashed potato and I pretty much wiped the plate clean. We also decided to try some of their desserts: crème brûlée, friggin chocolate yum and warm butterscotch bread pudding. I am not much of a bread pudding kinda gal but this was very good, especially when accompanied with the butter sauce. This really is a cute place with cabins situated right next to it. We had no reservation and ended up on the porch, where you can hear but not see the water features (including a koi pond). My favorite dish was the pumpkin carrot soup with ancho chile spice - deliciously warm and toasty on a cool fall night. Another great meal at the Cabernet grill. We ordered the goat cheese crostini for an appetizer. The tomato jam pulled it together for a delicious bite. The Salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the sautéed mushrooms were a great addition. Dessert was the peach cobbler, but we substituted the salted caramel ice cream for the lavender ice cream.
