This place gets 5 stars for what it is. It's an inexpensive place to rest at night. Close to the Village (2 miles) with all the amenities you need. Shower, stove, oven, fridge, pots and pans, glassware, flatware and silverware and a TV! Bring your own sheets and save $$$. It's not a resort, bring your own towels, shampoo... etc. if you forget anything there's a small convenience store where you check it. I didn't spend much time at the cabin, I spent it out exploring local trails and doing fun activities. If you're just looking for an easy spot to rest your head at night, this is it! read more

And the LIARS say they offered us another place when we complained - NO, no you didn't. If I could leave less than one star I would this was easily the worst place I've ever stayed, I have no idea where they got the pictures from because my friends and I had multiple different cabins and not a single one looked this updated or clean. 100% Falsely advertised, everything is outdated and looks like it was picked up from a curbside, not "comfy" or "rustic". I never leave bad reviews but I would never stay here again or recommend staying here to someone. The cabin was disgustingly dirty when we arrived, there was rat poop underneath the furniture and IN our pots and pans. The hot water wasn't even turned on and we had to call to get it turned on... for $500+ for a short weekend I would expect better. Windows in the cabin had broken glass and didn't lock. We were supposed to get a discounted rate for bringing our own linens and never received it.. and had a rude response when we brought up the issues to management. Big bear is a beautiful place to stay I would recommend staying anywhere but here, for that price you can get a much nicer accommodation. Bought what seemed to be a great deal on Groupon for kayak rental: 2 hours, 2 seats, weekends included (paid extra for weekend). No restrictions whatsoever on Groupon. I get to Cabins 4 Less...they refused to honor the Groupon price AND the two hours. Stated it excluded holiday weekends and they couldn't explain/justify the 1 hour cut. They charged way more for a two seat kayak - 1 hour. AND you have to lug your kayak down to the lake - in a section of the lake that is drying up with pine trees or sand right under the water. People were getting stuck. There's one line for all services: water rentals, hotel check-in/check-out. Customer service is bad. No apologies. Very little explanations. My advice: there are other places renting the exact same thing all around the whole lake. Take your time. Go somewhere else. read more

It was an amazing AMAZING EXPERIENCE! WE will be returning! Our whole family loved it and wants to return as soon as possible. They had WIFI, pots and pans, plates and utencils! Fireplace! Even a playground/treehouse in the back! Staff at the front desk were SUPER HELPFUL, nice and patient ! They had $5 firewood, and extra $5 for sheets and towels per. bed. We paid $129 for the cabin #0 which slept 5-7. $156 total after taxes and wood and towels. Used this place twice in a pinch while our own cabin was occupied. Didn't use the jacuzzi and shouldn't have been charged for it. The heavily scented detergent they used on the sheets made us sick. (I think it was Tide?) The cabin overhead advertised as sleeping 2 was occupied by at least 8 obnoxious people who kept us awake all night and ruined our morning. There was rat poison left out in the bathroom that any child or animal easily could've gotten ahold of with disasterous results. That said, we found everything else (heaters, stoves, fireplaces, etc.) in perfect working order and the people who dropped off the wood, did the cleaning, etc. were wonderful. It's a picture perfect setting and they allowed dogs (our main criteria) and you can do a whole lot worse in this area price and comfort wise. It wasn't perfect by any means, but what is? We got what we paid for, and would definitely stay there again. We would also recommend it to friends who have a budget, don't have allergies to heavily scented stuff, and don't mind noise!! Cons: you have to watch out for things like the noisy (but friendly) neighbours, if you don't use the jacuzz you will still be charged, and if you don't like detergent smells, you might want to bring your own sheets. Check the bathrooms for poisons before letting kids or pets loose!! Otherwise ... Pros: Pictureque :) Pet friendly. Romantic. Cozy. Everything works. Reasonable price. For the area? My husband and I are five star brats, but we loved this placed. My husband wanted to celebrate his birthday this year by roughing it in a cowboy/fisherman style. Sooo I booked the log cabin #4 at cabins 4 less. It was perfect for the occasion. The tiny house was very clean, cute and comfortable. It looks just like the log cabins in the old cowboy movies and it even have running Well Water. Each cabin has a bar-b-Q pit & its own front yard which comes with either a table & chairs or a swing bench. All of the husband 's were in the front yard proudly cooking on their bar-b-Q pits while their wives joyfully watch their happy husband's cook for them. The lake was approximately a 5 minute walk from the cabin & the scenery is filled with ooohs & ahhs. The fish were jumping up out of the lake trying to catch the flying bugs. My husband caught 3 large catfish & 4 nice size bass fish. (bring lots of worms.) If you're in love with your mate this is a place where you must stay. P.S. leave the kids at home to bug each other while the two of you hug on each other all day long without any interuptions. ;-) read more

I did a double kayaks rental. I think this is my second time for 2 hours. It's cool that they do start the time 30 min later it lets us set up and get the kayaks down to the lake. They also seem to have bike rentals. Never tried it. Today it seemed very busy but we didn't have to wait. They seem to have a lot of kayaks available for people. I will definitely return. My husband and I wanted a quick weekend getaway so we decided to go to Big Bear. The cabin I chose was real nice for the price point. The cabin was a bit small, but they do have larger cabins. The location was close to the waterfront and a small store. We were less then a 5 min drive to the main strip. Each cabin had a grill for use. Just got home from a fantastic weekend up in Big Bear, my 1st time up there and I must say I am ready to go back.. We stayed in cabin #17, love the rustic look in the place it had pretty much everything u needed from pots pans plates flat screen TV with cable and wifi. Full fridge, gas stove pretty much all the comforts of home. Nice size bathroom, but the shower is small. Anyways outside you have a cool swinging bench that was made out of old skis, large picnic table and a bbq. I just wish the bbq was larger, the one we had was one u would use at a tailgating event.. But it did cook our food. Thank you for a great place to go at an affordable rate.. We will be back!!!!! read more

We stayed in cabin 21on Sept 2nd and 3rd and had a great time...just a couple of things..the bed is right up against the wall and it makes it difficult to get out of if you have to go to the restroom in the middle of the night and the mattress was rather worn out and so it squeaked a great deal, we also felt the TV could be bigger and put on a different wall than where it was. The Jacuzzi instruction should be made clearer as far as setting the temp. We will be going back again and look forward to renting from them again. read more

I love these cabins! Big Bear is one of my favorite getaway places and I love coming early November to experience the fall season.. Cabins 4 less are the only cabins I've stayed in, they are cozy, rustic and quaint. I have 4 dogs and this happens to be on of the only places that accepts them. I read some of the other reviews and don't let them steer you away. My advice is go to the local dollar tree grab some fabuloso and some candles makes it smell good. I truly live that this place kinda feels like a home away from home at this point. The staff has always been super nice and helpful. I like that they have their own mini store close by for all of your needs.. I might have start coming twice a year instead of once. read more

Im writing this review with full knowledge that YELP! will filter it out because that is what they do to the business who do not pay for the *Yelp Fees*. Yelp filters out the good reviews so the business is only left with the mediocre ones. So I hope that the people reading will dig a little further into the reviews to see this one. Before I begin, let me say right off the bat, if you are a "snob" this place is not for you. This is Big Bear it's not The Four Seasons Hotel, ok? This place is for the individual, couple or family that really just wants to enjoy Big Bear and it's outdoor activities. Not the snob looking for room service, maid service and afternoon tea. That being said, this place has everything you could need. I came up here by myself and my dog. I really just needed time away from the city, the noise and the filth of downtown Los Angeles. I'm a girl, I like my creature comforts but, I am not a snob. If you are a dog owner, particularly a large dog owner like I am, you know how hard it can be to find accommodations that allow your dog and dont charge a huge deposit or cleaning fee. This place is SUPER dog friendly. I arrived with the idea I wanted to RELAX, spent time outdoors in nature and doing whatever I could find that would accommodate my dog. Pat and Ron who own this place and run the front office are AMAAAZING to say the least. They are very very friendly, super helpful, well informed, they give you a book with all the local information in it as to where to shop, hike, swim, etc etc... They even offer FREE bicycles, kayaks and sleds for the guests staying in their cabins. I told them I was interested in doing some easy (my dog has bad arthritis) hikes on trails that would allow my dog. They gave me all the trails and the directions on how to get to them. They also provided me with many other locations and activities that I never even would have thought of that were also dog friendly. YAYYY!!! My dog and I went on several hikes together including a FREE guided nature Hike that is provided to the guests who stay here. And yes, they allowed dogs and loved having him on the hike. A couple of days later we even took out one of their FREE kayaks that YES! you can even take your dog in the kayak with you, And thats not all.... they even had life vests for dogs you can use for FREE. When I say this place is fantastic, I really mean this place is FANTASTIC! The cabin I stayed in (#3) was clean, rustic, had all the essentials ie: bedroom ,bathroom with shower, well equipped kitchen complete with coffee pot, utensils, plates bowls, full size CLEAN fridge, microwave etc, it also has a BBQ and picnic table, TV with cable and DVD player, a real wood burning fireplace and much more. One thing that might seem a little unusual is that they ask that you bring your own bed sheets and bath towels. I am MORE than happy to do that since I would prefer to sleep in my own sheets anyway. So no problem there for me. At the end of my stay, I decided to stay and extra night and they offered me a 50% discount on the last nights stay. My trip was everything I could have wanted and more. I had an amazing time and the staff were extremely helpful and informative and not once did they ever treat me like I was bothering them or asking a stupid question. I love this place! Please read my first review to get the whole picture, it isn't pretty. This is a response to the comment left by Cabins 4 Less'. Ron thanks for stopping by. So glad you all are making lots of money! Enron, AIG, and Bernie Madoff made lots of money too. Could it be because people like us book their vacations in advance and when we are able to survive a night we politely cancel the remainder of our stay, ask for some of our money back less deposit if needed and you say "NO we keep all your cash and give you vouchers, it's in our return policy." My guess is complaints are quite common indicating the need for such a policy and the disappearance of staff available to address complaints face to face at 10 am during the work week. If you and your establishment were really about customer service such cowardice would not be necessary. Still waiting on that voucher promised over the phone...go figure. As for your loyal entourage of fans I think those could be 'vintage' reviews just like your cleverly chosen word you used to describe your run down and dirty cabins. Not many positives of late on the old Yelp reviews; seems as though lack of cleaning and up keep is catching up to you all. I mean you aren't lighting the world on fire with 2.5 stars on Yelp. It does seem that I'm not the only one that has experienced the 'For Less' of Cabins 4 Less. Regardless I can only base my review on my own experience and it was sooo bad. We stayed at cabin #13. Upon arrival it looked cute, quirky, and quaint. No the case. 1. We were told it was a 2-3 person cabin and have the email to prove it...after we listed our complaints...they change the website and lied to us that it was a 2 person cabin. 2. Our son tried sleeping on the fold out couch bed....IT WAS BROKEN!! 3. The tv cables were hanging everywhere. 4. The shower wad gross. Cracks in the shower and missing tile and mold. 5. All the outlets were wiggly and we were scared to use them. 6. Luckily we didn't see any bed bugs or cockroaches....but there were ants in the kitchen. 7. Luckily I brought my own dishes and pots/pans...the ones provided were gross and I doubt they were washed. We packed up and headed home 2 days early. After emailing the office with our concerns and requesting a refund...we get a response in poorly written English from."don". The whole place is shady and we will NEVER stay here again. We stayed in cabin #1 it was a small clean cabin and they allowed our dog which was convenient . We only stayed one night the TV in the living room was okay but the one in the bedroom didn't work at all. Then came the bed my boyfriend and I barely got any sleep extremely uncomfortable the mattress was sticky it was hard to just toss and turn at night & it was freezing (obviously) but it would of been nice if they supplied clean warm blankets on the side. Also none of the windows would open, they have some weird lock and if you can open them, they wont stay open. overall it was okay for a one night experience but i wont be coming back. read more

Do not use cabins 4 less! Very unprofessional people! We recently stayed at cabin #33 which happened to be infested with bed bugs!!! Ron and Patty were very rude when we complained, at first they try to say if we're sure that we didn't bring them with us without realizing that not only we have horrible bites but on top of that we actually found bed bugs and left one sheet behind so that they can see the bug for themselves and to top it all off there have been previous complaints about this cabin having bed bugs and they neglected to take care of the problem!!! We had to throw all of our sheets, blankets and luggage away Because there's no way we're risking bringing that home! We complained and we got a very rude response and still haven't resolved anything! The place was old and very nasty as well! Everything in that cabin was just gross! DO NOT STAY THERE! Definitely know what to expect before booking a stay with Cabins For Less. We didn't and we were really disappointed. We decided to go to Big Bear just a few hours before actually leaving and needed to find a place quickly that would accommodate our dog. Because of that, we didn't do the research we normally would. These cabins are definitely CABINS and no frills at all. Not exactly the best place to stay for a romantic weekend. Plan to bring everything: your own toilet paper (they give you one roll that's tissue paper thin), towels, and bedding. You can get towels and bedding from them for $5, but the towels are crazy rough and super tiny. The bedding is minimal (a few sheets and uncomfortable pillows) and you put it on the bed yourself. Seeing the stained bed protector totally freaked us out. Once we got over our OCD, we realized the place was clean, not crazy clean, but clean enough. The beds are crazy uncomfortable. That's why I've been up all night writing yelp reviews. All their cabins range in niceness so definitely look through their pictures before booking. We got cabin 56 which seemed to be one of the nicer ones. It has a lake view which is really nice and is relatively spacious for a studio size cabin. The shower has pretty good water pressure. If your expectations are low and you're just looking for a clean and affordable place to stay, this isn't a bad choice. If you're looking for a nice family cabin or a romantic little place, this isn't it. read more

Wish we had read these reviews before we spent our anniversary here in May. We even tried to send a letter with pictures documenting our experience to Cabins 4 Less which was returned to sender. We just spent our first visit to Big Bear for our anniversary in unit #52, one of theirr "lake front cabins". While the Big Bear area is beautiful, we were very disappointed in our accommodations. We were expecting a more cabin like experience and not a converted condo unit. The fact that there were no exterior pictures of the lakefront units should have been our first clue. While we could see the lake from our "deck", I wouldn't say that was our primary view. Our main view was of the parking lot and the very unattractive "park" area. This area was crammed with mismatched lawn furniture, none of which had cushions, making the furniture not only uninviting but uncomfortable and/or unusable. The grounds were a mix of artificial grass, rocks and weed. The BBQ's, filthy. There was no direct walking access to the shoreline. Typically with a lakefront "cabin", one would expect to be able to walk directly down to the water's edge. The access from our condo led through the "park" area to a single ramp leading to a boat dock. There was a sign posted advising that a release must be signed before using the ramp which we were not told about but then again, the ramp didn't look terribly safe anyway. Apparently, we also got one of the few "cabins" that doesn't have a fireplace which we were also expecting; especially after receiving the following information in our confirmation email, "Please note i have adjusted your balance due. we deleted the firewood and starter fee as u have a gas fire place. You wont need those items. We also provide linens and towels for our lake front units, so you wont be needing that fee either." When I asked the gentleman working the office about the discrepancy he said we had a heater to which I replied that a heater and a fireplace are two different items. He then kept referring to the unit description but could not explain why we received the above information. When we checked in, no information was provided to us regarding the extras that Cabins-4-Less offers such as fishing poles, kayaks, DVD's, etc. In fact, our unit did not have either a VCR or DVD player. Also, while we were checking in, some other guests were checking out fishing poles and asked the gentleman working if they needed anything else besides hooks to fish. His response, "I don't know; I'm not a fisherman." We were stunned. They could have used a little helpful advice even if it was just directions to a sporting goods store where someone else could have helped them. We paid extra for the lakefront location expecting more than what we got...an extra expense I would not recommend. While I would love to come back to the Big Bear area in the future, we would definitely never stay at a Cabins4Less property again based on this visit. read more

The sound of constant pick up trucks start making noise at 5 in the morning. The tv kept going in and out of volume. Half the things were broken in the room. They charge you extra for towels and linens for the beds. There is no air conditioner but there is two heaters. The house isn't in the best shape and the blinds filter out none of the sun or the bright light they put outside the room that can't be turned off. read more

Cannot agree more with previous reviews! I stayed there with my boyfriend for Valentine's weekend, needless to say for the outrageous cost of $485.00 for two nights, it was not worth it at all. -The kitchen if you call it that was missing essentials to cook with -the fireplace tools were broken (unacceptable considering people stay in cabins so they could use the fireplace) -there was hardly anywhere to park I am sure I am forgetting a few other things but if it wasn't for the fact that we had a jacuzzi and great company we made the best out of it. I would obviously not recommend ever staying there considering the owner Ron was not willing to give us a friendly refund, I guess in his mind he would rather get bad reviews and no return business. read more

Booked the place a week ago for mid Feb 2016. did the reservation on the phone for one of the cabins and was waiting for my email conf'. got the email the next day which start with "please replay with I accept in the subject line"...as i scroll down and saw that a whole family get one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and one towel... I've decide to cancel and that was my replay that we are not going to come we are cancelling the reservation exactly 2 days after I've made it and almost a MONTH before the reservation schedule for.Called on the phone the next day and the lady told me they forward my cancellation to the one who need to discuss about it?! I start to get confused since I don't remember having problem cancelling any hotel in my life specially a month before. never the less I called again the next day to find out they don't want to release the deposit and when I ask to speak to the supervisor I got this Ron on the line who was extremely rood and claim they loosing business and that this is there policy. I told him that each business can have any policy they want as long it been presented to the client before or during the reservation which never happen in my reservation process! this place and who ever run it is very greedy and doing wrong business wise. I told this Ron that I'm gonna dispute the charges if he is not going to refund the credit card he start yelling and hang up the phone on me which clearly show how he run his business with such class. I'M TELLING TO EACH ONE WHO READ THIS LINES BE ADVICE THE PLACE AND HIS OWNER SUCKS, IF YOU REGRET ON YOUR RESERVATION YOU WON'T SEE YOUR DEPOSIT BACK!!! Sure I file a dispute and got my money from the credit card company back. I end up booking somewhere else not too far away with a nice customer service and has it seem much better deal from every aspect. read more

I have visited big bear for many years, this was the worst place I have stayed at . ANYWHERE. There is no pride in ownership, pulling up .a boat trailer in a spot where I should have parked. The security code used to open the door didn't work , just a hard shove and it opened. Sitting outside, there was zero maintenance done lately. An upside down table where plants should be. Trash, wild ivy on the cabin, i think there were like 5 storage sheds right there and were shacks at best. And there was so much just outside of the sheds, old hot water tanks , old BBQ,s Ladders, just a mess Now for the inside.... Goodwill called , they want their stuff back. Every piece of furniture was uncomfortable : we went to Kmart and bought chairs.this futon that is the most uncomfortable thing I ever sat on. Ever stacking up bed pillows didn't help. Someone put a hook on the bathroom door .... And the screw went thru the door !?!? And left it . And where there should have a hook. Someone drove a screw into a wall . A screw !??! someone painted the windowed doors years ago and never scraped off the paint on the glass I don't think the place has had a good cleaning for many years . There was so much dust ... I could have written my name in it No gfci in the bathroom or kitchen.uneven floor . Loose floor tiles in the "bathroom". Paint 95 percent of the bathroom and stop. Use calk around the bathtub and runs down the walls and leave it. How did this place pass code? My wife noticed there was a new shower curtain and thought "they are trying". Until she noticed the old shower curtain was cut up and used for curtains in the rest of the cabin. It was such a bad time we left day early. And we told them we were leaving and they offered a free night emailed to us. And week later... Still haven't got it. Too bad, I like big bear. read more

Please Do Not stay here! It is so horrible, disgusting, dirty and so out dated. The heater barely works, the beds mattress has a plastic cover which I'm assuming are for bed bugs (what place does that) we got in the jacuzzi and when we turned on the jets, it literally started to smell like sewer so we immediately jumped out Now if thats not diagusting what is.....We had to wait for the shower to get hot water (sort of like them olden days). The next day we checked out and went to the Best Western, a comfortable clean hotel that you pay less for than these crappy cabins. read more

It was Big,Spacious,Dusty and Old museum creepy like...cobwebs and all...with that being said i couldnt sleep in the beds and crawl under those sheets if someone were to pay me.The front door had a big see thru window and had no curtain so we were basically on "display" while downstairs.Im all for the Cabin experience btw...with the price paid i expected a Cleaner,Fresher place.It didnt need to have modern decor to get a better rating from me.This place just needs to buy some new bed sheets,pillow covers,dusting,deep cleaning etc.(Spruce it up a bit)Lookn back at my experience we made the Best of it and even got to see some snow fall while we were there.Mmost important we got away with a 2 night stay Alive!!haha read more

I will come right out and say it, I did NOT go here, but I did have my daughter, exwife and her boyfriend stay here as I was unable to go due to a massive allergy flare up the night before my daughter and I were supposed to go. Let me set the story for everyone. The little girl and I were going to go up to Big Bear and just enjoy some time out in the woods, by the lake, small village living and shit like that. Throw rocks at each other in the woods, try and catch a fish with my bare hands and wrestle a bear kind of weekend, leave Friday, stay there and come back on Sunday... just rustic as you can be.. wander around the trails, go up and down and rub my butthole with leaves kind of weekend with the little girl who was on spring break. Allergies flared up to a point my eyes looked like someone reached down and squeezed my body so hard everything was going to go popping out of my eye sockets. So I was going to let the little girl down and tell her that we could not go and just absorb the cost. When all of a sudden, the exwife texts me and asks if she was going to have to watch my dog while I was gone. Genius strikes, so I say hey, why don't you and your boyfriend take the little girl up there. She jumps at the chance, I mean I paid for it, all good. I let the little girl know and she is excited. I forward her all the information. She takes one look at the name of the place and goes, that place sounds ghetto. In my defense, this place was cheap and we were not going to be inside much.. again, out in the woods fighting wild animals, eating bark, and making a canoe out of the insides of a bear we skinned was the idea of the weekend for us. She is a bit on the proper side, never roughed it in her entire life. Granted anytime you have 4 Less in your name, quality is not what you are looking for, you are looking for a place to sleep and not being eaten by the locals. It was a little small, so I said ok, I will upgrade it. I called the number in the email, paid extra for the linens, towels, pet deposit and all that jazz (oh yeah, she decided to bring her dogs - more on that later) - Guy on the phone upgraded them from like a shack to a jacuzzi loft thingy. He was phenomenal, I did everything that he asked, explained the situation, just a purely phenomenal experience. A++ for this guy whose name I never got, but love him like an Uncle I had never met. I get all of the stuff emailed to me and forward it on to her. Bring your own toilet paper was in there, so I told her bring a roll of toilet paper... it also said, do not leave your dog in the cabin by itself. It would bark and make too much noise. It was clearly in the email, in big block letters. I assumed she had read that part. They went off to the cabin after picking up the little girl. I sat in bed with a warm wash cloth on my eyes listening to music. They get up there and immediately she starts texting me about how dirty it looks. Then I called her and said, hey, remember not to leave the dogs at the cabin when you are out. Which sets her off.. what do you mean?? I then said yeah that email I sent to you before you left that said do not leave the dogs int he cabin while you are out, that one, I am just reminding you of that. After a round of texts going back and forth where she used some rather interesting words to describe what kind of human being I was, I snickered and put the wash cloth back on my eyes and went to sleep. Little girl seemed like she was enjoying herself, so that was good. Next day nothing from her, little girl does make mention that exwife is grumpy and irritable. I snicker some more. They cannot find anything to do since it is out of season for a lot of things. So instead of overcoming, improvising, and adapting to the situation, they whine and moan and groan. I am now getting texts about how horrible a person I am for upgrading them and paying for everything and how miserable she (exwife) is. Apparently the whole lets go out and wrestle a bear was not on their to do list. I spent a chunk of change for their weekend and honestly, I have not laughed like this for awhile. This is not to take anything away from the cabins 4 less, the name pretty much tells you the level of quality you are going to get. The customer service is phenomenal, next time I want to go back to Big Bear, which will most likely be this summer, I am without a doubt going to go here and experience this place, because it is exactly what I was hoping for, a place to sleep while I am out covering myself in mud and hiding in the woods so I can throat punch a deer. read more
