There are so many coffee shops to try in Seattle, and this one had been on my list for a while. I finally got around to trying it, and it was definitely worth the visit. As soon as you walk in, you're immersed in a cute café filled with greenery and plants everywhere, which adds to the fun, cozy vibe. It does get pretty packed on the weekends. I went around 10 a.m. and it was pretty busy. Although, we didn't have to wait in a long line as the service is efficient. You order at the counter, and they have a good selection of pastries, sandwiches, and other brunch items. I ordered a vanilla latte, the raspberry cloud matcha, a quiche, and the croque monsieur. The coffee was perfectly creamy and smooth without being too sweet. The food was good, nothing that particularly stood out but I'd still come back. Next time I'd probably try the breakfast board since that seems to be a favorite. Overall, it's a nice spot to study or grab a bite or drink with friends, but just keep in mind it can get pretty noisy when it's crowded. read more

I've been here many times before and it's usually a great experience. The food is good - nothing crazy. I tried the Go Hawks matcha (super bowl special), and it was really good very sweet. It's pretty similar to an Einspanner Matcha with the sweet cream on top. I didn't really like the raspberry jam in it because the seeds were a little difficult to drink. My friend got an avocado toast, which was also good, but you can't really go wrong with avocado toast. What was frustrating this time was my friend who is allergic to sesame wanted to get the healthy skillet. The bread and the healthy skillet has sesame in it so she asked if they could replace it with something instead they charged her extra for a croissant which wasn't very accommodating. They also didn't even warm up the croissant. I think there are a lot of other great cafés in the area. I think I'll check those out instead. read more

While Seattle has plenty of great coffeehouses, Cafe Hagen stands out for us! The plant-filled interior gives the place an inviting, peaceful ambiance, and the service was friendly and on point. We intentionally wanted to try their brunch after reading other reviews, along with their coffee offerings. The Cafe Hagen Brunch was a real treat, with a beautiful board of soft scrambled eggs; a crispy Danish waffle topped with a berry jam, scoop of whipped cream and powdered sugar; several slices of smoky bacon; a bowl of guacamole topped with sesame seeds; ripe grapefruit wedges; two wedges of artisan cheeses; housemade bread; and rich butter. We also enjoyed their latte flight which included creative flavors, including kebenhaven, hazelberry, raspberry-bloom, and strawberry-coconut. Every Seattleite has a fav cafe here and mines this one. Been here so many times now that I basically spend most of my Saturday/Sunday mornings here. I absolutely love love it. What I also really love is the whole Scandinavian vibe. Their Nordic style brunch and coffee menu, minimalist ambiance, indoor plants, lots of light(on the days when the suns out here in Seattle lol) and the branding is all cozy hygge feeling. My go to order is their chicken & avo panini. It's super filling, super fresh and it hits every single time. I'm also currently obsessed with one of their seasonal specials: the København Scandinavian classic latte with almond and cardamom. The almond gives it this soft, nutty base and the cardamom adds a warm spice taste. Staff is chill and friendly! Also it's dog-friendly. I really enjoyed our brunch here during the weekend. I was worried at first because there was a line out the door but it's an order first before you sit down type of place. I would say come earlier if you're in a larger group but we were lucky to get a table under an umbrella for our group. The menu is pretty extensive but be sure to check timing of the items on the menu if you want to try something. We had a couple items to share with the table and really enjoyed the coffee flight and the breakfast board. Easy to share and enjoyed the flavors! The coffee is on the sweeter side so if you like it black I probably wouldn't recommend it. I would totally get the board again and you can pick your protein. On a late Saturday morning we were out walking our dog when we stumbled upon Cafe Hagen -- kind of in the middle of nowhere, squeezed between high-rise buildings. There was a big line for coffee, so we figured it must be worth it. Why not give it a try? The moment we walked in, we instantly felt warm and fuzzy. The place just has that cozy vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. We ordered the ham and cheese croissant sandwich, a pear and cheese danish, and of course some coffee. Service was quick and done with a smile, which always makes the experience better. Since we had our dog, we grabbed our goodies and sat outside. We split everything -- sweet, savory, and the coffee -- and it all disappeared pretty fast. The ham and cheese croissant even had a pickle inside, and I've got to say... it was delicious and tasted freshly made. The pear and cheese danish was even better than expected -- that combo of pears and cheese was excellent. Overall, great food, friendly service, and a cozy spot we're glad we found by accident. I came here with some coworkers for lunch. I don't normally come to cafes for a meal so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was a little surprised to see just how busy it was! I became a little worried that there wouldn't be enough room for us to sit down. We got lucky as some people left. I decided to go with the Urban Pesto Panini Sandwich. We didn't have to too long for the food to get ready. The sandwich had good taste and I loved the bread they used to make it! This was so good, but literally at a price. I wanted to catch up with a friend during a very busy weekend and went here with him on a Saturday for a late lunch around 2pm. This area is a very relaxing Scandanavian cafe that's about an 18-minute walk from the Seattle Convention Center in downtown, otherwise parking looks tough around the area. With enough sunlight, you feel like you could calmly read a book here and enjoy the plants around the inside, or just sit outside on the many tables with umbrellas shading you from the sun. Well, we would have sat out here had the best seats with the shades not been full, but we got seating near some sunlight and an open window which honestly feels similar enough. People have mostly came in and walked out with drinks, or dined in like my friend and me. Music of various genres does play inside, so it is slightly noisy but not overbearingly so. After you place your order, you're given a number that you're advised to put up in a visible way so that servers can bring your food to you. Water and utensils are self-serve here, and you bus your own table. I got the Italian style croissant sandwich, which comes with pepperoni, salami, prosciutto and leafy greens all sandwiched together by two fresh and somewhat oily croissant buns. I didn't need the provided fork and knife to eat this; this is literally a sandwich. And oh boy was this really good and deceptively filling and heavy! All the meat had such savory tones that fit very well with the croissants, and it felt like I was eating a much better version of a meat sandwich. The leafy greens did fall apart quickly but I didn't mind that. It got a little messy eating, but it tasted just as good as it was Instagrammable with the sunlight and window backdrop, and it was such a hearty meal. A croissant sandwich is quite expensive, though; mines was $14.95 before tax, and my friend's market club croissant sandwich was $15.95 before tax, both the same size as a single regular Costco croissant. My friend and I also shared a slice of strawberry jam cheesecake. I don't enjoy cheesecake, but this one wasn't heavy on the cheese and instead I could taste more of the strawberry jam. That's a plus for me! I don't remember what the price for this was, but it's safe to say it's about as expensive as most items on their menu. I don't think I'll go out of my way to come eat here, but for the visit I had with my friend this is great place to catch up with someone or to share some deep conversations while enjoying some feel-good food! read more

I got the KØBENHAVN latte on recommendation for something a little less sweet it's almond and cardamom but I could only taste an overwhelming almond flavor. So much so that it overpowered the coffee which I didn't feel like I got a good taste for. My husbands iced chai was pretty standard but good! Spectacular casual brunch! Walked around the neighborhood for some late brekkies and was pleasantly surprised by PLATTER that you get here. It's a plate with a waffle, avocado, very delicious bread, your choice of meat/umami, cheesy eggs, cheese and fruit for $26. I think it's a nice light breakfast for two or pretty filling for one. This place came highly recommended by some friends in Seattle, so I decided to pay a visit during a work trip there. The interiors are minimalistic Scandinavian, and this SLU location is tucked away on a quiet little street. I got the healthy skillet (3 scrambled eggs with avocados, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese) with cheese on the side and toast. It was delicious and didn't seem too buttery which was great since I wanted a healthy-ish meal. My friend (who is vegan) got the red beet hummus avo toast and enjoyed it as well. We shared the moka flight which they offered to customize to accommodate vegan preferences. We were given a choice of macadamia or oat milk and we opted for the former. My friend and I were looking for a cafe that we could work in so we headed in around 10 am. The interior is so cute with lots of plant decor and a decent amount of seating. We found some higher seats near the window and liked that there were outlets nearby. Hot Kakao (Small) - The small size had some nice art on top and it was very indulgent with rich chocolate flavor but I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. Grilled Brie & Prosciutto Toast - The toast itself would have been if it was toasted as it was a little tough to cut through but it had a great nutty flavor and was a house made multigrain. I sometimes do this thing where I essentially spin around, close my eyes and slide my finger across the menu until my gut tells me to stop, and wherever my finger lands on, I will order that menu item. You never know what you'll get (don't judge if you see me doing this in public). I just so happened to land on their chicken & avocado sandwich which seemed like a safe choice. With tender, well-seasoned chicken, fresh avocado and arugula, and melted cheese (love me some havarti and menchago) on soft focaccia that soaks up the ginger-sesame sauce without getting soggy. The balance works well! From the avocado, the arugula, the savory chicken, the richness with the cheese (did I forget to mention that I love menchago?) and who doesn't love homemade focaccia, making the sandwich feel elevated than a standard deli-style sandwich. It fits the vibe of the cafe where eating in the space feels cohesive. It's truly a space where one can do some casual reading, work, have casual conversation, or simply just stare out the window. The one caveat is price. Though the quality and presentation are pleasant (love their ceramic plates), the cost pushes it into a once-in-a-blue-moon cafe outing rather than an everyday lunch staple, especially if you add a pastry, drink, tip, etc. read more

My co-worker and I stopped by the SLU location for coffee during our lunch break. She had been here before and recommended the København Latte which is an almond and cardamom flavored latte. Both of us thus got hot 12-oz København Lattes (+$6.45) with oat milk. We also got a blueberry danish to split. The KØBENHAVN LATTE was amazing and had really strong notes of almond and cardamom flavors- a nice spiced drink for fall! If you love almond-flavored drinks; this is the drink to get. The coffee and milk were super smooth and creamy. They serve it in a glass cup if you're dining in, but you can bring your own cup if you want too. Next time, I want to try their Banana Foster latte [UPDATE: I just tried it this afternoon and it definitely tastes like a banana foster- banana, vanilla, and burnt caramel] The BLUEBERRY DANISH was nice and fresh, but nothing extraordinary. As other Yelp reviewers have commented, it would be nice if they warmed their pastries up in the oven. If there's one word to describe Café Hagen, it's HYGGE (pronounced hihg-gah, at least according to YouTube). Hygge translates to a feeling of contentment and coziness. According to Café Hagen's website, they aim to take share the best elements of hygge- the cozy contentment and well-being you feel from enjoying the simple things in life. Their exterior and interior are beautifully crafted and designed with lots of plants and modern furniture. It really does feel like you're stepping into a small cafe in Copenhagen. This would be a great place to study, work, or catch up with friends. Service was excellent and we received our order within 10 minutes after ordering. My close friend has been recommending this place to me recently, and I also love it! The cafe is a perfect study and chatting environment. While located in a building, being inside it makes you forget that it's connected to one. I really liked the ambiance here and the area is very clean with a modern and urban design. The space here is also very wide and spacious which I appreciate, alongside their outdoor seating. Their food selections look pretty good! I want to come back here to try more of their pastries and overnight oats. I really enjoyed the Croque Monsieur I ordered, as a big fan of ham and cheese pastries. Google Maps being a little wonky and telling me this is not where I'm sitting - I think it is tho! Lovely - very busy - coffee shop and bakery (called Freya Bakery) in a bustling part of downtown Seattle, near Westlake, cinemas, hotels. Advertised as having a "hygge" vibe - I didn't get that; to me it was a cosmopolitan vibe; maybe I am not hip to what make something hygge to a Scandinavian. In any case, the special seasonal coffee "Copenhagen" (I'm translating it) Latte, was amazing. I got it with macadamia milk. The flavors were dazzling. Highly recommend. That said, service at the front counter was troubling - two people but one kept getting it wrong as to whose turn it was (such as ringing up a wife after the husband already ordered - which, to be fair, I also blame the couple because wth? - anyway, this staff was constantly apologizing to the other staff and putting a wrench in the works - the line was SLOW. The actual making of the coffee, at another counter entirely, was faster; and I liked being able to see the different coffees brewing. Space was clean and bright with big windows. read more
