Cafe Intermezzo was a dreamy spot for brunch! I really enjoyed my omelette- satisfying and quite tasty. The only reasons I gave this spot 4 stars instead of 5 were that my latte was very small for its price and the tables weren't quite big enough to comfortably fit two people and our food/drinks. I wanted this to be a great review. Unfortunately, the staff (especially the hostess) were so uncomfortably rude and elitist that I can't recommend you visit this establishment. The cheesecake is fantastic but too expensive. They act like it is a freaking nightclub and make you wait outside to go INSIDE TO PLACE A TO GO ORDER. Then the barista had a bad attitude as well. I've never felt so uncomfortable in an establishment and I've worked in the service industry for so many years. They said because they're down a bartender. But the thing that makes me upset is my coworker had just gotten a to go order from them not 30 min before I called. I went in person and they lied to my face and then when I called the second time, they lied again and said no one took a to go order. He said he'll ask the manager if he knew of anyone taking a to go order and the manager also sajd he did not take one. It's not even about the food anymore. Although a bit pricey, if you're looking for a nice, cozy, romantic place to eat dessert, this is the place to guy. It's a very romantically lit restaurant, and I got to sit on glass covered patio to eat my raspberry cheesecake with coffee, bourbon, and whip cream. My friend and I decided to grab a quick outdoor brunch here. They sat us quickly, right next to a heater on a cold day! The waitress was wonderful, fast and kind. The coffee made me wonder why i settle for Starbucks every morning, it was that good! We decided to do the spinach dip and baked brie, but I want to come back for more! (look as this brie, i'm drooling) We were obsessed with the food. If it wasn't for how crowded it got later in the day, we would've came back for what looked to be to die for dessert. This place is so cute! There are a series of cafes around Atlanta so feel free to try all of them! I only came for a quick hot chocolate so got into the to go line which was a little slow. They had a super busy night it seems which was why it was slow. They had such a large selection of warm drinks. Hot chocolate is near and dear to my heart so I went with the Mexican hot chocolate that wasn't too sweet. It was more of a savory drink which I loved. You also have the option to add alcohol to any of the warm drinks and make it boozy! I cant wait to try their desserts. They looked so tasty and rich. It was very sad because I have finally got my husband to try Cafe Intermezzo. We were greeted and seated in the bar. We sat waiting for 15 minutes and no one came by to greet us or take our order. We were in the bar area. We have staff look at us, walk by us but no one ever came. We watched customers be waited on. It was very strange. So we got up and left and had a very good service and food at Marlow's Tavern. The staff at Marlows was amazing. My husband will not step back into Cafe Intermezzo. I get a little excited when I get to stop in Cafe Intermezzo. I mean I just go for the sweet treats and that suits me just fine. This was my first time at this location and while I was happy to get a piece of white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, I was not thrilled about the service. There's a bar area and the kitchen is located right behind the counter and those cooks were super busy. You can order cappuccino, coffee, sweets, and food. I've never been to France but I'm sure the inside resembles that of a cafe you'd find there. This place is super small (as most of the ones I've been to are) and the guy working behind the counter was not thrilled to be at work. The guy who took my order was pleasant but then the guy at the register just placed my bill in front of me and just appeared annoyed. It was really busy and the line and amount of people around the pastry display case was ridiculous and I wish they had some kind of system to alleviate all the traffic. I really just wanted to get my cheesecake and head out the door but there was an issue with my friends order. The young lady who helped her was rather apologetic but overall the service was blah. I love Cafe Intermezzo and their different coffee/drinks and pastries they have to offer. But wow, their dishes are just as equally delicious too. I have always frequented the Dunwoody location. However, I visited the Avalon location to meet up with friends. This location is beautiful and a bit smaller than the Dunwoody Cafe. Nonetheless, Cafe Intermezzo offers the same great ambiance and awesome entrees! Also, our waiter Jordan was really sweet and attentive! I had ordered the hot chocolate and their "Smoked Salmon Pasta". It was so good and the perfect mixture of flavors. It was made with a light cream sauce and the smoked salmon had a great taste to it. I would definitely order it again. The hot chocolate was chocolatey good as per usual! I would recommend anyone to visit cafe intermezzo if your down for date night or hanging with friends or any occasion! read more

My first time at this location. All I can tell, the first impression wasn't good. Let me warn you people, if you come w/ group of people, avoid this location because you aren't welcomed (oh well, thats how we felt) We found out the host who didn't greet us well and gave us rude looks, was the manager- JOY (I really hope it's not her real name because, for sure she didn't look like one) When we came (table of 7) she seemed like didn't want to accommodate us. It wasn't busy and there were loads LOADS of empty table. At the beginning, she kept saying she couldn't sit us together for no reason, always avoid eye contact, and left us hanging/waiting by the door. Finally, she sit us by the corner of the inside patio room with sulky face and excuses. Oh! she even sit down some people first and pretend it was a "busy" night. Some of my friends have been to this location many times, and they said it wasn't the first time she was being rude. Just saying, if she doesn't like the job, then she should just walk away and find something other than to make customer disappointed. Or is she waiting to get fired? who knows!! On the bright side, our waitress-TAYLOR was super sweet, nice, friendly, and kind; this one is a keeper. She took care of us and we had a great time for the rest of the night. There is something about this place that is just off... Maybe its the cramped space, the over the top drink menu, the wait staff or the lack luster food menu. 1: the space seems to be too small. At least inside it was. It was still early and I did not want to sit outside as it was too hot for my liking. There are two entrances which make coming in to be seated a little strange. 2. the drink menu is just too much. Please simplify it please. Is there a way to just get a coffee menu separate from the cocktails. I really don't need to know the history of lattes or whiskey... 3. the wait staff is young, which is typical at the Avalon. But they like to crowd around each other and talk. Its the older members that come and check on you. If the space wasn't so small this wouldn't be as noticeable, but when you can't step two feet in either direction without seeing a waiter/waitress it seems like they huddle. 4. One of my favorite restaurants. The most consistent restaurant I know. No matter what location , time , or day of the week the food always tastes the same. The quality for the price is pretty dope. I've had the burger (changed bread to croissant), tomato basil pasta, seafood dip, mussels, crepes, French toast, and the tortellini. I recommend all of the dishes I named for sure. I've also had a few Bellinis , the wine is amazing and their cappuccinos are all outstanding. My top two desserts at the moment are the cannoli cheesecake and the traditional. Perfect date night spot sets the vibe for the night. Ask for outdoor seating around 7pm/8pm. The scenery is very romantic. read more

I stopped by a little after 10am when they opened and was seated inside by a very nice hostess. It wasn't busy - a couple tables seated outside and 3 seated inside, including mine. I noted 2 servers, 2 cooks, 1 employee at the coffee/dessert counter, and the manager. I picked out what I wanted, but still had not been greeted by a server and given my drink order. It is not a very large place, and I am a little socially awkward, so I scrolled through Facebook - not in a hurry. I note that a server has brought the check to the table next to mine, but does not say anything to me. After about 15-20 minutes, I make the choice to get a hot chocolate to go. I go to the dessert counter and order from the women there who was also very nice. She says she needs to let me server know. I tell her that one never came to the table. I see her discretely say something to the manager. He gives me his card and comps the hot chocolate, letting me know to check in with him next time and he would make sure I was taken care of. These situations are awkward, especially when you are dining alone. I was treated with nothing but kindness from the people I did interact with and would go back. I believe it to be a miscommunication as to who the table belonged to within the wait staff, and trust that since the manager was made aware that it was remedied after I left. I give this 3 stars because although I was not served, the other employees stepped up and handled the situation well. read more

This store is a great addition to Avalon but the service and food is really disappointing. I come from Europe and cafe like Intermezzo use the best cutlery ever. I walked and I sat at an outdoor table which was dirty and I had to tell the server to clean it up. I asked for a big cappuccino. She did not ask me if I wanted the whipped cream on the top so she took it back and after five minutes she brought me the same coffee but cold this time. Anyway, I did not want to spoil my nice lovely morning and then my eggs come out .. the potatoes were the worse ever no taste eggs just ok. I had to ask for the salt and pepper... pepper was thick did not come out... you have to open it. What a waste of money....will not go again read more

Let me start this review saying I have sworn off Intermezzo many years ago from visiting the Dunwoody location 6-7 times in a row...all the worst restaurant/food experiences of my LIFE! You name it, it happened. Worst service, 45 min to see someone come to the table, then 1hr to get coders only to find them cold...found out they microwaved it instead of remaking. Cakes not properly cooked and custards all separated. For real it was bad. Fast forward about 5 years to today. We hit CRU in Avalon on our way through to check what new shops came in and our waiter Andy said that the intermezzo at Avalon is 100% better than Dunwoody. Of course I was still extremely hesitant I didn't want to even pay for horrible cakes and service. Well, one bottle of wine later our minds turned to dessert. We left and went to Intermezzo, arm twisted. This is a little place I like to say in the "median" of the road going through Avalon. It's not the huge restaurant like Dunwoody or Midtown. It has a nice warm homey feeling. We sat at the bar and was greeted by Alex, we talked for about 20 min before we realized we didn't even order drinks...too busy chatting. We had some coffee, drinks and food. And strike me down everything was great! Yup I said it GREAT!! service, food, atmosphere is spot on. Open till 12pm on the weekdays, perfect since alpharetta and roswell are ghost towns after 9pm. We got the Mediterranean wrap. The man wrap was fresh and tasty the filling was fresh lettuces and hummus, a little too much dressing but good. Sides were great! We had the cheesecake, plain and it was wonderfully light and airy. I guess they changed their baker a year or so ago and that's why everything is good now in the dessert area. Come enjoy this location and skip all the others. Really I was a hater and not anymore, I found a new place for late food and drinks! read more

Stopped in for a pick-me-up with my mom this afternoon. Perfect time to go around 130-2 - place was pretty empty. Host and server were both knowledgeable and friendly. Mom had a Cubano latte, I tried the Mexican Mokka I think it was called. She said she really liked hers, mine was okay. For less money I can get better (and more) at Starbucks. I'd probably switch up next time. We shared a slice of their chocolate mint cake which was, again, pretty good but nothing swoon-inducing. It took a little longer to pay our tab, but our server was nice enough to not stalk our table - a trade off I'm happy with. Our two coffees and the cake was $27 + tip, so not great for the quality and quantity, but we'll be back for a bite to eat - the menu had some tasty sounding meals and reasonable prices for the area. I was going to leave a One star review but the manager Brian tried to redeem the service of the rest of the staff. I've been a repeat customer for a while and this has been the worst experience I've had. We were sat down at 10:05 and waiting till 10:40 to receive our food which was cold. Before this we asked a staff member on the status of our coffee and she answered with attitude about how there was a big rush, however tables sat after us were already eating and paying for their bills. When they did bring us our coffee it was made wrong. At that point we asked to speak with the manager and we were met with Brian. He admitted that this was an anomaly and that he would work to fix it but we again waited 20 minutes when we just decided to get up and leave. read more

I love Cafe Intermezzo and I'm so glad they have a location near me! Their coffee drinks are super yummy! I love iced coffee and they have so many varieties- I tried one that was a toffee flavor and it was delicious! Also, I highly recommend the crab dip!! It is soooo good! I'm keto so I pass on the bread but they will kindly bring cooked or raw vegetables for dipping which is amazing! The vibe at Cafe Intermezzo is so cool too! The patio seating is really nice for a nice conversation outside. There is also a couple of swings nearby to enjoy if you want something to do afterwards! It's definitely a great date spot that's casual and economical but still is classy enough to invite someone to for a first date! The food and drinks are delicious but not to heavy so don't come here thinking you will get a full meal! It's definitely light bites! I will definitely be back again soon for some crab dip and to try more of the coffee drinks!! read more

I typically frequent the Intermezzo Dunwoody location, but decided to try this location since it was new and I live closer to the area. I went on a Wednesday night, and it was still packed. I put myself on the waitlist through the Yelp App (thanks Yelp!) so the wait time was shortened. It wasn't a long wait so that's always good. They didn't really a wait area inside, so we all kind of just stood by the door because it was cold outside so it made it more crowded. Service: I thought the hostess was very friendly and sat us down pretty quickly. Our server was very professional and got us everything we needed. Perhaps they've improved since their grand opening. Food/Drinks: It was definitely more limited than the other locations I've visited before. They didn't have the "rose bud and petals" tea that I always order either. The cake selection was pretty minimal; only had the more popular types of cakes/cheesecake. No tiramisu, my favorite :( Ambiance: It was quite loud because the tables were too closely together. Someone knocked over a glass trying to leave from their table and it shattered all over the place. Overall, I still enjoyed coming here. I just wished that it wasn't so crowded, but I guess it comes with being in the middle of Avalon shopping center since space is limited. It will probably be better once it warms up since they have a nice outdoor area too. Recommend trying this location out if you live near this location and like Intermezzo Cafe. read more

Being a native of Atlanta I can count with my fingers and toes 10 times over of the number of visits I've made to the Perimeter location and old Buckhead Cafe Intermezzo locations. So, it was automatic that I would be elated that Cafe Intermezzo was opening up a location in Alpharetta, the Avalon to be exact. When the construction was going up I noticed that this location was going to be very small. I didn't realize how small it was until they finally opened for business. I felt like I was in a can of sardines. This location especially while trying to wait for the hostess upon entering is not for those that are claustrophobic. The place is so small that they do not have room for a hostess stand...or maybe they didn't think about having a hostess stand. Also there are two entrances which adds to the confusion more. Which side are you supposed to go to be greeted and put your name down for a table? The tables are very close to one another (to maximize space) but when you don't even have room for your purse you just feel awkward trying to settle in. Forget about bringing in a stroller. Parents would probably need to carry their loved one in a bjorn/body wrap if at all possible unless they are old enough to sit in a chair. This location is definitely not designed for large parties. The interior style mirrors the other locations- dark wood interior, dim lights, small cafe tables and chairs. I've always thought the Cafe Intermezzo interior design/style was nice and charming. This location though just makes you feel like you walked into a mockup showroom of what a larger cafe would look like. I do really like the large top to bottom clear glass near the tables through the separate door that outlines the one side of the cafe (the covered patio). The covered patio is open during warmer months. This location is also working out the kinks of a new opening. Maybe more training would be helpful pr bring in experienced staff from the other Cafe Intermezzo locations. That may help ease into a more pleasant transferable cafe experience. Both of my visits here the drinks were just ok. One of the visits I ordered a Cafe Johannes and it was not filled to the top of the glass like to usually is at other locations. The glass size was the same though. This location also has limited dessert items. Two friends of mine went up to look at the deserts and they said they had to wait around for awhile to get assistance to know what everything was and then after waiting was told to just tell the server what they wanted to order. As one friend suggested they should really have a list of all dessert items on the menu or on a sheet/iPad if it changes. Hope this location works out the kinks. Our server Logan really worked hard to make sure our first visit wasn't a 1-star review. It was her great attitude and attentiveness (especially when it was taking waaaay too long to get scrambled eggs with a croissant and our Croquet Madame) that got this location to 2 stars. To be fair, we did visit during Brunch hours on a Sunday when I know places can find themselves stretched. The first thing you notice when you enter is a nice décor, and just how absolutely crammed everyone is inside. Indoor seating ranges from the bar, to a row of 2-tops, to a back room where one could easily borrow the salt by simply reaching to the next table. We chose the outdoor seating which, while very close to the road, was quite nice. But again, the way they have crammed in every possible seat was just too much. We were seated at a 2 top where every person near 6' tall had to angle their chair or else they would be pushing back against the patron at the table behind them. At 6'3", I had zero chance of fitting and had to angle my chair and send my leg across the table up against the side of my wife's to try and stay out of the way. There's just no excuse to jam tables like this...the removal of one 2-top would make all the difference in the world. The food: We had the scrambled eggs over a croissant, and the Croque-Madame. The croissant was fine, perhaps a bit heavy, but tasty. The eggs seriously lacked seasoning and were lukewarm. The C-Madame was somewhat better, with just a couple basic errors; the Gruyere cheese was so disproportionately spread, that one half of the sandwich was just overwhelmed by the saltiness of the ham. The other half of the sandwich was perfect - but of course all the Gruyere was on that side and helped cut the saltiness out of the ham. With all the competition in Avalon, I hope that this location and work on some of these inconsistencies and make this location more comfortable to dine in like the Midtown location, which is far superior to this one. We will give it one more try and report back...but for now, go with one of the many other places to choose from that are within 20 yards of this café. read more

We made it to their new location in the Avalon shopping district the day they opened. I've been to their other locations (Dunwoody, Buckhead, Airport) and was a regular for a while. We were greeted and seated almost right away (we were the luck ones) since the tree lighting and events were going on in the district it started to get busy quickly. We ordered the Hot Chocolate Berlin, Brandy Alexander, Spinach Dip, and Bosco cake. I know I had a friend that always got the Hot Chocolate Berlin but I don't think I ever tried it. If you like nutella this is a must try! The nutella has basically glazed the inside of the cup and you can see it along the brim of the cup and then topped with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips. It's a bit decadent and you may want a small spoon to help with the nutella. My husband had the Brandy Alexander which he said was good, no added comments. We both really enjoyed the Spinach Dip. It had a nice little spicy kick, nothing long lasting and nothing overwhelming but just a little kick. I've never had that in a spinach dip before but now I may be hoping for it each time. Then the Berry Bosco. I use to order this a lot about ~15 years ago but I don't think I've had it in about 7 years (granted I did move away for a while). It's still good. I think they said it has 5 berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, not sure of the other 2). I love the tartness of some of the berries but I will say I don't recall them being so tart before. Then the sweetness of the whip cream on the side and some in the cake, then the pie crust (I love pie crust), and some cake mixed in. I'm so happy to have a Cafe Intermezzo near by now. From our experience they seemed to run smoothly for their first day and we will be back. Plus they have nice bathrooms and one has a changing table.
