Never got to try the food. Service was so poor, we left. We're greeted with notice that no pastries or cakes were available. Their refrigerator had broken. Bad sign #1. Got an nice seat out side. Was instructed to scan QR code for menu. No hard copy menu offered. The qr code only loaded the drink menu. Bad sign number 2. A waitress Came out 3 times and never acknowledged us. Finally a pleasant young male waiter came out with waters. Yeah. We told him we could not access anything but the drink menu. He acknowledged the electronic menus did not only work. So he brought us hard menus. But he never came back, at this point we had been seated about 20 minutes. Bad sign 3. We left. Too bad. I drive an hour to the Avalon to just come here for dinner and drinks. My absolute favorite place in the Avalon. I always get the baked brie and honey, it's my favorite thing on the menu. All of the coffee drinks are on point. The cocktail menu has a few outdated cocktails so I usually just get a peach martini or the French 75 (with Beefeater) but they're really good. Regardless if midtown, sandy springs, or Alpharetta (all that I have been to) I have yet to experience a bad time at cafe intermezzo. The service is impeccable to he point of almost being annoying, the coffee is pretty good for international and good for American standards, and the cake is quite decadent. I love the rebranding effort of intermezzo who still dotes our the coffee cups with the original German inscriptions from the 70s before the location was either rebranded to or was cleverly chosen to something Italian sounding. The only downfall that intermezzo has is it's clientele. What I mean with this is that it lacks "dry" cakes, German and Northern European style in accordance to traditional coffee houses in stead of the decadence of cheesecake "wet" cakes that Americans favor. But, that is catering the local masses! :) either way, I will continue to visit! read more

Cafe Intermezzo is an adorable Italian themed restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. It has an extensive coffee and wine list to chose from. I thoroughly enjoyed the seafood crepe. Nice sized portion and packed full of seafood in a creamy sauce. The Cafe also has a large dessert case to choose from. I opted for the tiramisu, deliciously satisfying . This was my first visit to Avalon, and a couple of friends brought me here. We came around 6:30 PM and were seated right away, although parking in the area was already very full. I had the classico sized cioccoloccino, a friend had a slice of a chocolate mousse cake (I forget the specific name), and we also ordered a charcuterie board. The cheeses (names in photo) were delicious, and I enjoyed my coffee; it wasn't on the super sweet side, but that's what I like. I took off one star because the cake was a tad underwhelming for the price point (~$10 for that slice), but this could solely be due to taste preferences. This review supposed to be posted last couple months but it got delayed. Apparently their kitchen food is not as fresh as I thought. I ordered French toast without cinnamon since I'm allergic to it, and my waitress came out said that the chef cannot make it. What's so hard making French Toast without cinnamon? I guess their French toast is premade. From that, I'm wondering all other kitchen foods are all processed and premade or frozen. I guess that's very unhealthy. Moreover, the store seems cannot stock bakery goods and cake on time. I know you guys are very busy on the weekends, but always out of Tiramisu on weekdays is unacceptable. :( I used to go to Intermezzo a lot in Dunwoody. But since Avalon is closer to my place, of course I would go here. But 8 out of 10 times I always stumble into bad experiences tho. read more

Years ago we were frequent Cafe Intermezzo visitors and it's as amazing as it always was. The coffees and desserts options are plentiful and none will disappoint. I haven't been here in about a year and was really excited to get an espresso martini to-go. The bartender making the martini had his mask below his chin, was talking the entire time, and then put his bare hand in a container to grab some coffee beans to decorate the martini. My experience tonight at cafe intermezzo was so terrible it was almost comical. I walk in with my friend and her daughter and there is no host so we go straight to the bar. I order a slice of cake from the lady at the bar named Letty. She does not put it in the computer nor does she ask my friend what she would like to order. She leaves the bar to talk to a friend for about 10 minutes. When she finally comes back to the bar, after 10 minutes I decided to change my order to a crepe since she had not rang it in yet. She then skips my friend and goes to the next customer. I had to tell her that my friend needs to order too. She asks me if this is a togo order and I told her no we are eating here. After she rang us up we are just standing at the bar so I said, "can we just sit at this table?"The restaurant was completely empty. She then says oh I thought you were going to sit at the bar. I told her there are no stools how are we going to sit? She then goes oh let me talk to the host since these tables are reserved. We go to the table to sit down. The host then approaches us and says the table is reserved and said we need to get up. We said we did not know since there was not a host and he goes well you can just go sit in the back like we are a piece of discarded trash. I then sit at the table in the back waiting for my crepe while I watch Letty look flustered at the bar. I finally walk up to my bar and see my crepe sitting at the bar on the side. I had to ask her if that is mine and she said yes I am so sorry. My crepe was now cold. We then had to go back to the bar to cash out since she didn't have us pay when we initially took the order. As you can imagine, we had to stand there for a long while before Letty approached us. We wanted to quickly go in for a sweet dessert but the terrible service unfortunately left a horrible taste in our mouths. read more

This cafe is smaller than other locations. It has a small collection of cakes. Seating is also limited. But service is amazing. Mike was very nice and attentive. We never had an empty glass at the table. Mike anticipated all of our needs. I had a strawberry cream cake. It was ok. But the latte I had was absolute perfection. My only complaint would be how they run their wait list, it's way out dated and they expect you to stand around the restaurant while you wait for a table and they just yell your name when it's ready. It's inefficient and ruins the ambiance for people seated outside constantly hearing the hosts yell for people. Other than that, great food and great coffee. read more

Had a good lunch here, consisting of a Grilled Avocado salad with added crab cakes, and a Kahlua coffee (I'm off from work today, so it's all good, lol). The salad was great, except they forgot the avocados, which I didn't notice until the waitress apologetically brought them 5 minutes later. Ventured out hoping to have a great meal in spite of the COVID challenges and was very pleasantly rewarded at Intermezzo. The Avalon is always a great time, but wasn't sure what to expect. Joy greeted us and it was immediately clear that all possible reasonable precautions were being taken to put us at ease. We were seated and had the good fortune to have Karen take care of us. She knew the menu and offered great insights to help us find something we'd enjoy. The food itself, in fact the whole meal, was delicious and fully enjoyable. Some places struggle with COVID requirements, but not here. I'm very happy to support those who struggle in these crazy times, but there was no evidence of struggle here. I was very disappointed at the service at Cafe Intermezzo, at Avalon yesterday. Well, I might instead say, what service? After we sat down we must have waited 15 minutes with no service. I finally flagged down the hostess and asked for a drink. Another 15 or 20 minutes went by before we finally got a server. When we finally saw our waiter, and I think we only saw him once the entire time, he was unfriendly and rushed. Someone else brought out the mediocre food and we had to flag down another waiter to get a refill on water. We had to flag down the hostess to get our check and a doggy bag. My friend ordered crepes, and they did not look like crepes. She only had a few bites. I ordered to roasted avocado salad, it had good flavor but was not presented as described. It was perfectI had Carmel cappuccino it was just like I like my coffee, strong and not too sweet. for dessert I had the toasted almond tiramisu. The piece was huge, the texture was fluffy and moist, soaked with amaretto liquor but not soggy, I enjoyed it a lot. But each time I go to this location they always don't have my favorite " Boston Creme Chessecake" the Dunwoody location always have it . The service took forever . We have been wanting to go here for sometime but just never got around to it then last week went here twice. For the first visit I got 2 spanish mokka coffees and hazelnut cake. Felt that the coffee was a little overpriced but they were pretty good. We had a fun time sitting outside. Next visit was on new years eve and it was crazy crowded but we were meeting up with friends and didnt have to wait :), 10 mins before midnight and I was able to walk in with my stroller. The atmosphere is very cozy! This is the largest location I have seen. I did not even realize they had a full food menu. We only stopped in for a coffee and an appetizer this time. The brie with honey was amazing! I tried mine with apple slices on the side. So good. In the evening they set the mood and lower the lights so you just have the candle light on each table, which is romantic. The parking at this location is nice because it's in a shopping center so there is plenty of open parking. The price is reasonable for the atmosphere and the top notch service you get! read more
