The hash browns looked like they were from the frozen section of a supermarket and the omelette very average. Came on a paper plate with plasticware. We went to Cafe 247 on the way to Big Bear, I had heard about the place on the radio and wanted to try it. Cool decor with a comfortable feel. I ordered a California burrito for $7.75, which I thought was pretty highly priced, but assumed it would be a pretty good size burrito; my assumption was so wrong, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I got a burrito that was about 6 inches long with a diameter similar to an "Alberto's" burrito. I couldn't believe it, I wondered if they ran out of full size tortillas. Not only was it really small for the price, my burrito was the last order to arrive at our table and they forgot my fries. So of course, by the time my fries made it to the table, they were piping hot and the rest of the family had almost finished their meals. Pretty big disappointment. read more

I have literally driven by this place 5000 times and this past weekend finally stopped in. What a good decision!! It has a funky, cool vibe both inside and out. The outdoor bbq wasn't open (late on Sunday evening of Labor Day weekend) but I've seen and smelled it going off while driving by. The food was really good, unexpectedly good! We had a delicious pulled pork sandwich and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Pork was tender and sauce was awesome. Plus homemade potato chips! Philly tasted legit with authentic cheese sauce. One great thing about both? The rolls...seriously great bread. I enjoyed a tasty Santa Maria IPA on the patio (recommended by employee) while I waited for the food. They serve (some) breakfast items all day. Next time, I'm going for the breakfast burrito. read more

An absolutely great place, the family who owns and runs the cafe are just great friendly people! Came down to the cafe, after a long hot weekend in the hammers, and was pleasantly suprised with the hospitality, and great service. I would 100% recommend this to anybody rolling through Lucerne. Love this place. I didn't know the young man that takes the orders was the owner. He was so pleasant and caring I was surprised that an employee was that dedicated. Little did I know he owned the place! I love their turkey club sandwiches. You don't get just a few thin slices, they give you plenty of meat. They make their special potato chips there too, which are completely different from the commercial ones you buy at the store. Great stopover, these guys get 4 stars for service price and food quality, homemade chili on hot dogs, homemade taquitos and banana splits!!! Worth the stop and Highway 247 is an institution in the US that rivals Route 66. Can't go wrong here. And internet was great to have in the middle of the desert! read more

Their Friday to Sunday afternoon BBQ is top-notch -- even Texans will agree. They cook the meat in a smoker outside and begin serving at lunchtime. It's worth calling in your order in advance if you are driving into Lucerne Valley from the TriCities High Desert or wherever -- just to make sure they save some for you. We had the pork ribs, brisket, pulled pork sandwich, and sausage, and next time we will try the beef ribs and focus on ribs and sausage. It's All Great. Owners are husband, wife, and son, team who do the cooking, with a supportive local staff as backup -- one as upbeat as a cheerleader -- on the weekends they do a 5 pm or so run up to Big Bear with racks of pork or beef ribs for those who call in and order them. read more

My wife and I tried this under new ownership place after hearing it was supposed to be good. It was a mid afternoon lunch and mostly empty. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich that came with homemade bar-b-que chips, my wife tried the burger. Her burger was cold and seemed to have been sitting around for awhile - not appetizing at all. My pulled pork was soupy with heavy bar-b-que sauce and had a heavy fake smoke kind of flavor. The chips were quite thick and way too hard to bite into - I only managed to break into a few. This is the place! I had a burger and a shake. Sign said all burgers come with a small order of fries. My regular burger was huge! All the fixings included and the small fries was more like a large order of fries. Quality food and generous portions. The shake was thick - just like it should be. Friendly service! Some friends from out of town drove in to try the advertised "Best BBQ", and I called Cafe 247 around 5pm to check on their hours. Open until 8pm, no problem. We arrived at 6:30pm and were informed they sold out of all BBQ except for pulled pork (the only way that's BBQ is the sauce), and links. There was a large portable red sign with big black "BBQ" near the street to draw people in under the impression that a full selection of BBQ meats would be available. When we walked out of the place after only a few minutes, the owner, who had been chatting with some young people outside, never acknowledged us coming or going. Not my idea of customer care or someone who cared whether potential customers returned. What a waste of time and not appreciated. Needless to say we left and had a great dinner up the street at Adelita's, with one of the best blended marguerita ever! Not BBQ but a good substitute. Although we don't have a but a handful of dining options in Lucerne Valley, I probably won't be back to this one. read more
