I've been here twice, and once it was GREAT and once it was pretty lame. The first time was a couple years ago; the place was stocked with doctors eating giant salads. I ordered the steamed vegetable plate (three kinds of vegetables and a baked potato!) and cottage cheese, and it was all delicious. Let me tell you, I know a good steamed vegetable. My boyfriend got some kind of ridiculously meaty dish and thought it was great, too. The second time was just recently; I ordered the same thing as before, and my friend got a cheesy omlette. First, they didn't believe that the thing I ordered was on the menu. Then, they didn't have any cauliflower. Then, when the meal came, they forgot the potato (quickly rectified), and the vegetables weren't that great. The peas were really hard, and the green beans were actually so stringy as to be inedible. My friend's omlette was okay, nothing special. So from both experiences, I would say that the place's strength is that it has great variety for both health nuts and grease-lovers. There are a ton of big salads with various ingredients, a ton of burger options, and some old favorites like meatloaf, etc. On the other hand, it's mediocre ambience and possibly mediocre food. read more

My go- to diner if I want a cheap Saturday or Sunday brunch. I've never had anything but breakfast/brunch food here and I don't intend to--diners for me are exclusively for waffles, eggs, and coffee. The food is better than your average diner, and the space isn't bad either. Service is quick and friendly, and the portions are good. Nothing to write home about, but if you live in the neighborhood it's well worth a try. read more

Been here twice in two months. Breakfast was tasteless and a bit repulsive, there was a gelatinous blob in my egg sandwich. Maybe uncooked egg (gross), maybe something else (even grosser). Can't understand why blintzes or French toast would cost $10.50, unless they were made with golden eggs. Waitstaff is nice, no complaints there. Never thought I'd say this but across the street at McD's you'd get a tastier breakfast sandwich much cheaper. read more

This meal was "A-OK!" I had the chicken souvlaki salad/pita and the only thing is I wish the lettuce was a bit fresher & that there was more of it. Black & White milkshake was wonderful and so were the fries. Boyfriend had the ruben sandwich which he didn't enjoy as much as he would have wanted too. He also ordered the chicken fingers & calamari and thought they were just ok. I would order from this place again but it probably won't be any time soon. read more

Food was adequate. It wasn't great. It wasn't bad. The experience however was crap. My sister and I were seated in an island table for 2, next to the cash register. There was another table right next to us of the same size. Next to the "other" table are the booths. We were placed in a high traffic area, which required my sister to be asked to move consistently. My sister isn't heavy, in fact, she's tiny, and she's not inconsiderate (she tried to slide in as much as she could to let people pass). At one point her burger was in her hand as the woman on the register asked her to stand up, move her chair, and let other customers pass. So she stood there in the middle our meal, to let a family pass because the employee told her to stand. What kind of genius decides to put a table there that requires the guest to move every 10 minutes? There's no chance in hell we're going back. edit: I forgot to add, the men's bathroom, or rather the path is partially blocked by wheelchairs and walkers from other guests. The bathroom however is consistently "flushing", and is about as spacious as a phone booth. read more

They got one side dish wrong - but the spinach they included instead of the strignbeans we ordered was terrific. The seemed to be doing a good business - lots of orders were being assembled. First time coming here and I ordered the challah French toast with bananas, the food In my opinion was perfect. Fresh toast soft with slight crunch and great cinnamon flavor. I can also taste a hint of butter they used to make this. The bananas were fresh and they were not cheap with the amount given. My son had the chocolate chip muffin which was soft and plenty of chips in it. He's loving it. My sons father ordered corn beef hash with sunny side up eggs with fries and toast, he won't put his fork down. I would definitely come back again and I honestly don't have one complaint. I was reluctant to write a glowing review while I stayed in NYC for a week because the place is wonderful & I didn't want it to get crowded...food is tasty, fresh and plentiful and the prices are very reasonable..$6.95 for eggs, potatoes, toast, coffee & freshly squeezed juice...in NY?..my wife is gluten free and was amazed at the extensive gluten free menu..gluten free waffles, pancakes & French toast...WOW...& the staff was unbelievably attentive..stopping by every few minutes asking if you wanted a refill...my wife just called today to find out the brand of gluten free English muffins & the manager found out and told her...simply a great place...though we had breakfast there most of the week we did stop by for a late dessert in the evening...had rice pudding...phenomenal..when in the city we're definitely returning.. They have a separate Gluten Free Menu. Good selection! I get their GF food delivered-never ate there. I think it's safer to order all items GF. Their GF bread is usually better than their GF English muffins which can be quite hard. I have celiac disease so it is a boon for me to have it nearby but I agree with Lily B and I don't think they isolate things. I try to stick to dishes that are more likely to be gluten free. (never had that reaction with the english muffins.) On the other hand- i've had their Gluten Free Thanksgiving dinner on two occasions with no problems as well as the GF pasta with broccoli. read more

I like Cafe Eighty Two a lot- I really like the neighborhoody feel to it. It's clean, bright, and spacious, and the food is cheap, simple, and good. Eggs, ham/bacon/sausage, toast, juice, and coffee for under $7 (before 11 am, I think- after that, you don't get the breakfast special pricing- it's still pretty cheap, though). Omelets, pancakes, and French toast for around $10. They also have a massive lunch and dinner menu, but I've only ever had breakfast here. read more

I have to update Cafe 82 with a slight downgrade. We had "brunch" there today (no brunch special...just 2pm on a Saturday, prime "brunchtime"). The place was mobbed. And it's very small inside. There's no real waiting area, so I felt that we invading another couple's space while standing over them, waiting for our turn. The majority of tables are for 2. The food was fine, however, I felt cramped and rushed (not that they rushed us...but I didn't want to linger while others were waiting for the space). I love this place! Great extensive gluten free menu, and if you have celiac like I do,you know how easy it is for restaurants to get comfort food wrong. Not here! Ask for the gluten free menu and it has breakfast, lunch and dinner items, prepared specifically for celiacs separate from the rest of the food. They have gluten free pancakes, French toast and for dinner yummy gluten free French onion soup and specials! My boyfriend loves all the food on the regular menu also! had coffee and a piece of danish here w/my client w/whom i'd work with on weekends---he's in a wheelchair so i had to push him just to get into this deli that's looking like not to be very friendly towards people with disabilities. well, what i dislike most about this place is the receptionist/cashier (she looked like she was the hostess cum cash handler of this tiny neighborhood deli) who was among the most unfriendly looking women i've seen todate. something must have been bugging her deeply that day & i wasn't a bit dealing w/her directly. she could actually try to work on smiling, at least while around customers (she's latina). this place is pretty much a representative of what's really typical among many delis in the city. it's being worked in with a whole gamut of stereotypical characters you may have heard of, beginning from myself (who's Asian who happened to be doing a caregiving gig on weekends), the hispanic waiters, the supervisors who looked eastern european, and that cashier---we all looked tired, miserable and would have wanted to trample on each other's presence right there and then (probably from sensing that some privileged people out there are taking advantage of us). LOL this is actually a ridiculous place to find yourself in, especially with characters who could not even try to please others when they're supposed to be in a service-oriented establishment (like this deli). whew! read more

Place was spotless food was original and down to earth good clean experience! Had breakfast spinach and cheddar scramble with coffee. Service was quick and efficient and they were very polite. My boyfriend had the Belgium waffle and plenty of it. They are not stingy with their food like some business. And to assure us they clean the guy was cleaning the door right in front of us.
