Founded by Ginger and James Dimapasok, Cafe 86 began with a simple mission: to share the vibrant flavors of the Philippines with the world. Drawing inspiration from ube, the signature purple yam featured in many traditional Filipino desserts, the couple transformed a cultural favorite into a modern culinary experience. Through creative desserts and innovative recipes, Cafe 86 has helped introduce Filipino flavors to a broader audience while staying true to its roots and heritage. My wife had heard many good things about this place. She's Filipina so we had to check it out for research purposes lol. And of course, we had to order their Filipino's iconic dessert, Halo-Halo. (Ask for the upside down version!) Their rendition is very similar to the traditional one, since it has ube ice cream, jellies, jackfruit and flan. Their spin on halo-halo is that they serve it as milkshake beverage with toppings instead of having shaved ice drenched in condensed/evaporated milk. It also missing a few of the essentials ingredients ( beans, sweet plantains, and coconut sport). But overall, not bad at all. Very refreshing on a hot day! It's good on its own way, but just make sure you mix-mix it up to enjoy the full flavors of the dessert.
This place is pretty cool! It's on the smaller side, but it has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere as soon as you walk in.It was my first time trying ube, so I wanted to play it safe and order something more subtle. I got the Monster Thai Tea, which I'd rate about a 6/10. The ube flavor wasn't very strong, and the milk and Oreo flavors overpowered the drink. Unfortunately, the boba didn't taste very fresh either. I also tried the ube truffle coated with oreo pieces, and that was actually really pretty good! I'd give it an 7.5/10. My daughter thought differently though she absolutely loved it and gave it a 9/10. Fun fact if you check in on the yelp, they give you a free hibiscus tea pretty big size for it to be free but honestly, I have no flavor. I still enjoyed it since I like plain tea but no flavor. The real star of the visit was the ube cheesecake. Let me tell you, that cheesecake was SO delicious! It was creamy, flavorful, and honestly one of the best things I tried there. It was around $6, and while it was pretty small for the price, the taste definitely made up for it. I'd come back just for the cheesecake alone.The employees were also incredibly sweet and helpful. Since I had never tried ube before, they took the time to explain what it was and gave me recommendations. I appreciated that they helped me choose pastries and made me feel comfortable trying something new. I enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back to try more items from their menu. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and while not everything was a hit for me, there were some standout items that made the experience worth it.
This was my second time being here and it didn't disappoint. It was pretty busy on a weekday evening. Perfect for a dessert after dinner or hang out. The café vibe is very casual and good for catching up with family/friends. The Ube desserts were very yummy. We tried the Ube butter bar, Ube truffle, and Ube cracked cheesecake. Last time I had Ube poptart. The Ube flavor is Rich. The desserts are not too sweet. Definitely good sweetness for Asian parents. Also, the purple color and aesthetic is very nice. Would come again when I'm in the area.
I had this place bookmarked for so long, not sure why I never made it in until today! After dinner, my friend and I were looking for dessert options nearby and he mentioned Cafe 86 had a delicious "cupcake thing". Then I remembered I've been wanting to try this place, so we decided to grab our post meal sweets here. We ordered 2 flan cupcakes, 1 crack cheesecake and 1 regular upside down halo halo. Everything was so good. I devoured the halo halo and the cupcake. I will need to eat the cheesecake tomorrow, but based on how good the other two were, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the cheesecake just as much. Now that I know what I've been missing out on, I'll be coming in as much as I can here on out lol.
My favorite place to visit whenever I am closed the City of Cerritos. Cafe 86 sell the most delicious Ube drinks, snacks pasties. One of my favorite is the their Ube Upside Down, Halo Halo. Service is superb and friendly. Sitting area was perfectly setup for short stop snacking... very casual inviting setting. Perfect for everyone to sit, relax and enjoy ube halo halo
I've visited this place before, and I'm always impressed by their consistency! My go-to order is the ube muffin topped with flan, paired with a large original Halo Halo on the side. We arrived around 12:50 PM, and luckily, they had just opened at 12:30 PM. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by an employee, and it was nice to have the place to ourselves for a couple of minutes until more customers arrived. Their menu is packed with a delightful variety of drinks, desserts, and sweet treats to choose from! I'll definitely be back soon to try their crinkle cookies and explore even more of their offerings. Definitely check them out! Keep in mind there's only about 2 tables and 2 couches (:
The food here is definitely worth the 5 stars but I had to deduct one for the service. Came in on a Tuesday around 6pm and ordered 2 upside down halo-halo and although the place was not packed, we were not greeted or even acknowledged because the employees were too busy giggling with each other. We were standing in front of the cashier for a good few minutes before they asked us if we were ready to order.
I visited Cafe 86 after being told that another Cafe 86 had some of the best and most authentic halo halo out here. The store itself is small and well-designed like a cool place to grab some drinks and desserts with a group of friends. The person working there was nice and made our halo halo quickly and well. Unfortunately, the halo halo was not very authentic and was very brown sugar heavy. I thought it was just ok.
We were in the area and decided to stop by. We ordered the ube cake, ube ice cream and halo halo. Honestly the cake was super sweet, I knew it would be but it was sweeter than I expected. The ice cream was really good, I enjoyed it. My fiancé ordered the halo halo and he loved it. He said it was really good, nothing was overpowering. Staff was also kind and helpful. We weren't able to sit inside though because space was limited.
First time visiting Cafe 86 with family for dessert! It's a tiny Cafe serving Filipino flavored desserts, coffee, teas, smoothies, and sandwiches. On a Sunday afternoon post lunch, there were just a few customers present. Our party of 5 was fortunate to get seats together. The turon pop tart caught my attention but I decided on something familiar which was a scoop of ube ice cream. Smooth, creamy and delicious! Fam members that got the same thing agreed. My cousin did get the turon pop tart but thought it's just okay. The gal at the counter that took our order was pleasant. There are brick walls and some Star Wars decor. The disability parking spaces were not close by in the plaza and already occupied. We managed okay parking in a regular spot that was next to a delivery/pickup spot that was clear. As far as regular parking spots, there were many on a Sunday afternoon. The plaza has a Market, a bakery, a restaurant, and shops nearby. I found out there is actually another Cafe 86 closer to me. This is a Cafe that I would introduce out of town family members to. 4 stars!
At this location, I only tried the ube flan cupcake: so yummy! I refrigerated it for a couple hours, so the cake part was a little on the denser side (not sure how it is fresh), but it was overall delicious. I would recommend this to anyone who likes ube, flan, and cupcakes. Ambience is a little dark with their typical brick walls. There is a bit of seating for the smallish space. Service was kind. bestie and i need our ube sweet fix cafe 86 is your stop! there wasn't a line when we arrive but one started forming as were we paying this trip was just picking up a bunch of sweets but i have had their drinks and they are so delish! i ordered: ube butter bar 8/10 ube flan cupcakes 8/10 ube crack cheesecake 11/10 *fave* everyone is always so friendly make sure you sign up or enter your number for points! always good vibes whenever i visit! my favorite location will need to try the halo halo next time parking: located in a plaza , lots of parking , spaces are on the smaller side read more

Love their ube shake! I used to get the one with Oreo cookie crumble in it but I prefer switching back and forth between the two to enjoy the smoothness and creaminess of the ube shake by itself. Highly recommend it as well as their variety of pastries that they offer. Will definitely be back! Also a very nice, clean, and aesthetic space to hangout and chill. Stopped by just prior to closing based on a friends recommendation. We tried the leche flan cupcake and the Ube tres leches. Both were good but not mind blowing. The leche flan cupcake was definitely the better of the two and I would get that again if I were close by but I wouldn't make a special trip to stop in read more

Came here after dinner for dessert on a Friday night and it was packed (yet service was still speedy)! There was limited seating but their menu was definitely not. There are a variety of baked goods and icey desserts from ube, brownies, and churros. We got the upside down halo halo which was more rich in ube than the regular halo halo. Regular vs mini was only $1 price difference so we the regular which had more jelly and boba. Would definitely swing by again when I'm in the area! read more
Absolute gem of a cafe in the neighborhood for Ube desserts! I love Ube so I couldn't believe how long it took me to finally visit and try them out. There are so many good options that it's hard to choose from. My favorites so far are the Ube crack cheesecake and the Ube flan cupcake. The drinks are also super refreshing and reasonably priced. The prices of the Ube desserts however are a bit steep, I usually have to limit myself from ordering too much each time from the sugar overload. I will be returning in the future to try more of their selection! read more

Ayo! So if you haven't tried the Upside HaloHalo then you need to go immediately! I like this modern version as instead of crushed ice and Evaporate Milk they use Ube Milkshake! 10 out of 10! I like their version cause there are no Beans. It has a piece of Flan and scoop of vanilla ice cream. Also includes cornflakes for that texture crunch. Do not skip on this! They have other items like Ube Cake Truffles and Ube cupcakes with flan. Inside had lots of seating, Staff was very friendly and huge parking lot. I've been a fan of Cafe 86 for several years. I first tried their Filipino desserts back when they had a branch in Pasadena (RIP), and I would frequently get the Ube Monster or Ube Flan Cupcake. Both are incredibly delicious and they have a host of other Ube-based desserts. During one of my return trips to SoCal, I had to make a visit to Cafe 86 again. On a toasty Christmas Eve (~70F), I ordered the Upside Down Halo Halo where instead of a scoop of Ube ice cream, you get an Ube base. Different Filipino places would have different mix in options - this place surprisingly has boba (in addition to your standard jellies). It's sweet but not overly sweet for your typical desserts - also very yummy! It's also incredibly huge and something that should be eaten on an empty-ish stomach - it literally feels like a meal by itself. Definitely get your money's worth on this dessert! Cafe 86 is a cute Filipino cafe. It is located in a lot with a bunch of other restaurants and a grocery store. The people there are very kind and the environment is very cozy. There are tables and chairs inside to do work. This cafe also has a lot of ube pastries and desserts that are definitely worth a try. Their ube truffle has the rich heartyness of ube combined with an oreo chocolate crust. The oreo and ube is very well balanced. They also have ube cheesecake and ube tres leches which are also a must try. They also have a lot of drinks to try. Overall, if you really love Ube pastries and desserts, I recommend giving this place a visit. read more

The atmosphere here is super cozy and the couches they have inside are to DIE FOR, so comfy!! The staff are also super friendly. I had some questions regarding what I should get to drink and they answered them with many suggestions, they know their stuff. I ended up getting their Ube Latte, which did not have caffeine. While taste is subjective, it didn't really taste like Ube but more so like a Taro flavor. Overall pretty good experience. read more
Cafe 86 is all things ube. And just in case you don't know what ube is ... it's a purple sweet potato ;) No, it's not taro (though the two often get mistaken for each other). Taro is white and tends to be a little less sweet. All that to say, the ube monster was delish. A bit sweet for my tastebuds, but if you're used to getting the cookies and cream boba from bobatime this is the drink for you. Excited to come back to try the ube latte next! read more

i loved everything about this place!! the ube cheesecake was my favorite, and the ube leche flan cupcake was good too. i love that the ube flavor shines in the desserts. the cashier was really nice and everything came out super quick. i love the cozy ambiance of this place, but seats fill up quickly since it's pretty popular. i highly recommend for ube lovers looking for dessert! read more
Stopped by on Saturday night around 7:30 pm and the place was packed! I was not expecting there to be such a long wait. It was worth the wait and can satisfy all your ube cravings! I was so surprised by how good their ube flavor was. We ordered the upside-down halo-halo and hot ube milk tea and both were soooo good. The upside-down halo-halo was such a treat and a must-try. Recommend to preorder ahead on their website before coming in!!! I had been waiting for drinks for almost half an hour before I learned that people who were next to me started switching to order online. So did I. And after another half an hour I finally got to try their drinks for the first time. This place is a decent place for Filipino dessert, that's why you would see people ordering more than 6-10 drinks at a time for to-go and you probably have to wait for your turn in line. But if you still want to get the vibe of waiting in line , there are plenty of couch inside and strong wifi, so you can get in, socialize with other people, and enjoy the music. read more
Cafe 86 never disappoints! One of the earliest places to put ube desserts on the map, and now they're everywhere. I've never had a bad thing here! We weren't planning to come since we have already been here, but we were getting boba in the same plaza so we stopped by anyway. We got the ube leche flan cupcake, which is as good as I remember. This was my first time having the ube tres leches and it was so delicious. You can tell they use actual ube halaya! Interesting take on ube. yup...ube! Been having an ube craving for the longest time, didnt know what sparked it, i guess ube was the trend. Had tried a couple of places but never a place that just specializes on ube. Got the cupcake with the pudding on top and the ube bread pudding w/ ice cream. I got to say if i come here again would get the cupcake w/ pudding. Just a nice combination. The ube bread pudding was nice, but i was not aware that banana is also part of the ingredient. The ube ice cream it came with def made it much better than having it without the ice cream read more

5 stars for the customer service and the Super Delicious Ube ice cream and pastries they have here!!! When I saw all the Ube cookies they make, Leche flan cheesecakes and other creative pastries they have - I need to make sure to pick up a box for the next family reunion!! The place gets busy. Very few sitting areas- hopefully people don't stay that long after they eat their desserts and other guests can enjoy if they need a table. It's a clean cafe, well kept restrooms and the staff is very polite and helpful to their guests. Lots of parking available. Will definitely visit again! read more

If I want a halo halo, I go here. I'm not a big ube person, but their ube is something I enjoy. I'm not big on traditional halo halo ingredients and they conveniently got rid of the ingredients that I don't enjoy. The only negative I have is there is sometimes too much cornflakes, but I don't think it's that bad of an issue to complain about. The lines do get long sometimes, so you have to come at the right time. read more

While in the neighborhood, I was craving a boba drink. So I looked to see what was around, and Cafe 86 popped up! So there hubby and I went. Parking was painless, and we walked our way in. It was a bit crowded when we went, but that didn't steer us away. I decided to get something different ( I usually go with a Thai iced tea) I went with a coffee milk tea. I was a little annoyed, though, because I wanted to get the smaller size but was told milk teas come in, the bigger cup size; ugh. Hubby got a salted caramel coffee and wanted it in the larger cup but was told it only comes in the smaller cup size; double, ugh! We didn't wait long for our drinks. I took a sip of my coffee milk tea and at first I was not feeling it. But after a few more sips, it grew on me, lol. Hubby enjoyed his drink as well. If there wasn't an annoyance cup situation, I probably would've given 5 stars. They should look into changing that. Anyways, I would like to come back to try some of there Ube desserts. I did get a small chocolate parfait which was tasty. I'll be back! read more

Had a craving for some halo halo and our usual place was already closed. Right off the bat I have to say there were issues with todays service. We were second in line and took 10 minutes to get to the front of the line to order. When we were finally able to order the girl made a mistake ringing us up so she had to call someone to help. I ordered two halo halo's and one Ube Monster shake with Boba. It took another 15 minutes for our order to be ready. We got them for takeout and when I finally got the chance to drink my Ube Monster I noticed I was sipping any boba. We were already out of the parking lot and seeing how long it took them to help us, I just sacrificed not having boba. The halo halo's were ok but still not done the traditional Filipino style I like. Food service businesses really need to pay attention to detail because the number one hing customers hate is their order being wrong. read more

I come here occasionally to get the Ube crack cheesecake for a sweet treat. Today, I was in the area for lunch and decided to try the turkey pesto. Upon arriving I was greeted but was asked if I could give them a few minutes because their internet was down. After about 5 mins I asked "is your internet down?" Then the cashier said well you can order but I can only take cash. I had cash and I just wanted to order because I was on my lunch hour. I ordered and had to give exact cash, luckily I had it. I sat down and waited. A good 25 to 30 minutes past. I asked the cashier if I could get my money back because I had to go "I'm on lunch". She ran to the back to grab my order while still dealing with the no internet situation. I guess I just went on the wrong day. I will say the turkey pesto and desserts did not disappoint only the customer service was lacking. I did not receive any compensation for the trouble I had getting my order. Will I be back.. maybe. They don't call it their best selling dessert "Ube Crack Cheesecake"for nothing. read more
