If you love Filipino desserts and halo halo, this is the place to get them. They have a menu full of shakes, drinks, baked goods and more. I already knew what I was getting when I got here as the halo halo is what got me all the way to Artesia. But I had never tried an upside down halo halo so I tried it out. Along with it I had tried for the first time ever a Mais con Yelp. It's a corn based dessert which was not too sweet but had a more simple flavor. I'd still take the regular halo halo any day but it was a nice and interesting first time experience. The flan in the halo halo was really good and over all had a good consistency. Seating is available inside and the store itself had a character to it with a little grunge and modern touch. Definitely will try again sometime for their classic halo halo. read more

It's more of a milkshake with toppings than halo halo since it's missing some authentic ingredients like the palm seeds, saba bananas, beans and ube halaya. It's literal a milk shake with ice cream, boba, a little flan and jello/nata de coco type. It's way overpriced too around $11 for the medium size. My friend got the bread pudding and said was good! The best thing about this Cafe 86 location, is that they're pretty frendly, fast and they have the $2 refresher and cooler drink promos every so often. The menus are on the wall, and you order your drinks at the register right in front of it. Pickup is nice and easy where they call your number from the other side of the counter. It's nice that they have indoor seating so that people can enjoy their drinks when those seats are available, although it can get very crowded, and you may end up just trying to stay out of people's way. I wasn't a big fan of the Hibiscus drink but the strawberry and dragonfruit iced teas were sweet and tasty. Lots of options to choose from though, and they must be good, as evidenced by the amount of people that were flowing in and out. The worst thing about this location is the parking. The entire lot needs to be restriped and spaces need to be widened. and some of the partitions need to go. I can almost guarantee that you will not be parked in a single spot correctly, and it's just as perilous pulling out of a spot, no matter what part of the parking lot you think you're safe at, considering the amount of businesses in that plaza. The spaces feel like they were all painted for compact smart cars, not the standard sedans, minivans or suvs that are out and about. read more

Cafe 86 is a homey Filipino bakery with a modern twist. I was looking for a dessert after eating dinner in the same plaza, and had heard great thing about the Cafe. I ordered a halo halo and an ube pop tart to go. The halo halo had plenty of traditional and more modern toppings. My mom wished they included beans and corn in the halo halo, but I preferred the plentiful amount of jellies and boba. My favorite topping was the flan - it was the perfect texture and had a rich caramel flavor. The ube pop tart was AMAZING! I'll admit, I was a bit spooked to try the baked goods in their display case due to other past Yelp reviews; plus, display case baked goods have a tendency to be stale/old and underwhelming. However, my pop tart had a thick ube filling that wasn't overly sweet. I did toast the pop tart in my own toaster, which probably elevated the ube flavor (plus it left such a warm ube aroma). Cafe 86 would be a great place to study or do group work. There's outlets, but only a few tables so it would be best to come early to reserve a group table. read more

The decor was quite eclectic, best described as Star Wars Filipino fanboy. All the staff were friendly, and I got my ube milk tea with oat milk pretty quickly. The interior is quite tiny but there's some coach seating. Located in a pretty congested plaza, parking can be difficult. The ube milk tea was definitely really delicious and I can taste the ube very strongly. I enjoyed it a lot but still thought it was a tad bit sweet. I came during the 11/11 promotion, and fruit teas were $2 each. The hibiscus calamansi tea was light and refreshing and the ube crinkle cookies were not too sweet (always a compliment from an asian). Though the interior was small, they tried to create as much seating as possible, and with fast service, I can imagine coming back and spending more time here. read more

I've been here a couple of times and both experiences have been meh. This most recent time, I got the ube bread pudding and the halo halo. The ube bread pudding has a scoop of ube ice cream that can be served on the side (in a cup) or on the dessert. The ube bread pudding was okay. It came cold, which I think ruined the tasting experience. Traditionally, bread pudding is served warm. The halo halo was lacking, in my opinion. It's supposed to have jackfruit but I didn't have any in mine, or must have been very little. The Frosted Flakes are also an... interesting touch. I like the more traditional halo halo that has red mung beans, macapuno, coconut jelly, and jackfruit, but Cafe 86 did note what ingredients were in this halo halo, to be fair. All in all, this personally didn't hit the spot for me for philipino cuisine desserts or for Ube desserts. This is a skip for me, especially with other Philipino places in the area. read more

I've had this on my bucket list for awhile and finally tried it. Parking sucks! I turned into a tight aisle of parking with a dead end and had to pull an Austin Powers to get out which took up most of our time. Many cars were taking up two spots because all spots were compact. Aside from parking, I really like Cafe 86. It's a pretty small space with a cozy vibe. There's so many good things on their menu but I just had to try the upside down Halo-Halo. I also got the ledge flan ube cupcake and the ube crack cheesecake. The Halo-Halo was good but not great. I was expecting more flavor from the Leche Flan ube Cupcake. The ube cupcake part was really good. The surprise favorite was the ube crack cheesecake. It was bursting with flavor! Truffle - I liked this, but it is very rich so I could only have like a spoonful of it per night. It's pretty tiny, but it lasted me three nights. The flavors complemented each other so well and although I'm usually not a huge mustard fan, I really liked it in this sandwich. I'm not sure if this is because they weren't fresh or if it's because it was packed with the sandwich and the heat from the sandwich caused the staleness of the chips. The ube crinkle here was SO GOOD and definitely lived up to my expectations. I liked how there was a decent amount of ube flavor in it. The cookie itself was also soft and moist which is how I like my cookies. Overall, I definitely recommend this and it makes me curious about their other ube flavored desserts. I really liked the ambiance of this cafe and it gives off super chill and cozy vibes. There's tables where you can sit at alongside couches; I feel like this would be a great place to catch up with friends while getting a drink and dessert. The churrochi is similar to the texture of butter mochi. It's chewy and warm, and topped with cinnamon sugar & caramel sauce. It pairs really well with the Ube ice cream. My family just ate at bopomofo and saw this Filipino dessert shop across the street. They have many dessert items and are known for their ube. The y interior feels a bit homey. I got the ube milk tea and the rest of my family got the ube monster, Thai monster, and kouki (Oreo) monster, all of which are smoothies/shakes. I haven't had a halo halo before, but have been wanting to try it for the longest time. So glad I got to try it at this desserts shop. I got an iced ube latte that tasted great but I was turned off by the $1.85 or $1.75 (forget exactly) upcharge for oat milk. I'd really like no additional charge for alternative milk but I'm used to paying $0.75 or $1 for oat/almond/soy. The highest I've seen before was $1.50 but now this place is the unfortunate winner. Total came out to be $8.55, which seems steep for a latte. I'm not from the area anyway so likely will not be returning. If you're into sweets or snacks, might deserve a try for their desserts. read more
