I enjoyed the milk shake more than the milk tea and the ube crinkle was okay. We have a friend that makes a better ube crinkle so it was hard for them to be able to top homemade crinkles. The tres leche wasn't too inspiring either. Everything we had was decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to get anything from there. My husband and I saw this place on Instagram and since we're both Ube lovers, knew we HAD to try it out! We came here on a Sunday morning and just lucked out with our timing, because after a minute of us getting inside, the customer line was through the door and had people waiting outside. It's a modern-looking place, not too big but not too small either. I like that there's a huge digital screen with a menu where you can see everything they offer. It does make it easy to understand the items there. It seemed like there were only two workers there so hence why the line moved very slowly. It took us almost 10 minutes to order and there was only two folks ahead of us. The server was very friendly and nice. She took her time answering our questions about certain items, and I appreciate that. We ordered one Ube Latte - this does NOT come with caffeine at all, so I had to add one shot of espresso for $2.25 - one regular Ube Latte without caffeine, one Ube Flan Cupcake and one Ube Crinkle Cookie. Our total was $24. For what we got, this seems very pricey to me considering our drinks were 16oz the cupcake was small and the cookie was also pretty small. In terms of flavor, the Ube Latte with espresso was decent but definitely on the sweeter side, so I would only recommend this for those who have an extreme sweet tooth. And this was WITH the espresso. The Ube Flan Cupcake was good, but honestly nothing out of the ordinary. The Flan part was the highlight for sure as the cupcake portion simply tasted like any regular cupcake. The crinkle cookie was just OK - it didn't taste much like Ube to us. Again, this could be because we had so much Ube in our drinks as well, but that was our verdict. Another thing we learned by asking the server is whether they make everything fresh and in-house - the answer to this is NO. They get weekly shipments from California on Wednesdays. Overall, I think this place is overpriced for what you get and the flavor of the items. Especially with the items not even being freshly made in house. Stopped by to try this place out last week and there was no one in line to order so we considered ourselves lucky. It was so hard to pick from the vast menu, but after a few minutes of looking we were able to narrow it down. I had a small iced cookie butter latte and two ube crinkles. My sister ordered the ube milk tea and a ube crack cheesecake. My total was $16 with tip and my sisters was $13 with tip. We sat at the one empty table and it was full of crumbs and sticky residue. I grabbed some napkins and cleaned it the best I could. My cookie butter latte was not good. It tasted watered down and I could not find the "cookie butter" taste. The cookies were delicious! They were soft and moist and I could definitely taste the Ube. My sisters Ube milk tea was literally diabetes in a cup. It was SUPER SWEET. She could not drink it so she waited until we got home to add some milk to try and balance it out. The cheesecake was good and we found that it was better to use our hands then than the fork because the cookie part was hard af. The employee who rang us up was friendly and patient. Cute cafe serving speciality ube pastries and mostly Filipino flavors in their goodies. If you are curious about trying ube or love it, this is the place for you! We ordered the cheesecake and butterbar both were so delicious and rich. The lattes were strong on ube flavors as well. The employees were super sweet explaining the menu because it was our first time and there are so many choices so it gets hard to pick but will absolutely come back to try more flavors. I came here today because I've seen the photos and IG stories recently. I'm a huge fan of boba, ube, and anything that involves both of those together. It was soooo hard to choose what desserts to choose with our boba. For me, the boba flavors were enticing but it was easy for me to choose my flavor. I got the dragon berry tea with boba. My boyfriend got the ube monster I believe. Both of them were great. I highly recommend the clear tea with flavors, they're so refreshing. I literally found my new fav boba flavors at Cafe 86. For desserts the Crinkle cookies on the counter sucked me in. I got one of those the but Ube butter bar. I wanted to try all of the desserts but I was already at over $25 for 4 items. We came here around 6:40pm the day after Christmas and there were a lot of people here. There were a few tables and a counter area to sit at. The parking was shared with a gym and other businesses so plenty of parking. We saw a lot of things on the menu but we ordered a House Milk Tea ($4.99) with boba ($0.99) and a hot Ube Latte ($5.35). They had ube pop tarts but nothing else available. Definitely go earlier in the day like when they open to get more choices. Luckily, one of our relatives brought some to our family get together. The ube pop tart was good, the ube leche flan cupcake was not bad to me, and the ube crazy cheesecake was tasty. Anyways, the House Milk Tea with boba was tree recommended between that and the Milo Milk Tea by the cashier. I was so excited to see Cafe 86 open a location in Arizona! I tried their desserts in LA and I absolutely loved them We got their Ube Butter Bar, Ube cheesecake, Ube latte and Ube ice cream (not pictured). All their baked goods were really good. Arrived late, about an hour before closing. They didn't have anymore baked items which made sense since it was close to closing time. I got the iced ube latte which was delicious. Milky, ube taste was there, the right amount of sugar, not overpowering. My husband got the ube milkshake which tasted similar but only iced and with crushed Oreos. I had heard so much about this place and finally stopped in to try it. I definitely thought it would be more of a bakery since everyone talks about the desserts, but was surprised to realize it seems like more of a cafe with some baked goods in a small case. But we tried a few different desserts including the ube tres leches cake slice, ube truffle, ube butter bar, and the ube pop tart. I've tried both the truffles and butter bars and like both of them, but the tres leches ended up being mine and my husband's favorite! I will say it is pretty pricey. Unpopular opinion, but I thought this place was more hype and promise than it actually delivered. I've been waiting to try them out in San Diego when back to visit family, but when they opened one in AZ, where I now live, I was super excited. Unfortunately and in short, all 5 baked goods I tried just tasted sweet. Ube truffle - more like a cake ball rolled in oreo crumbs. This had a nice contrast in textures but lacked a distinct ube flavor. Also a little pricey in my opinion. Ube Leche flan cupcake - flan on top was good but the cupcake was super dense and dry. It literally ate like how it was built... a small flan flipped onto the top of a cupcake. I think this would benefit from a fluffier cake and also something between the flan and the cupcake to bring the two together. Ube cheesecake - cheesecake filling was smooth and light but tasted more like regular cheesecake than it did ube flavored. The shortbread base was crispy and held the filling well. I wish it was bigger for the price. Ube tres leches - the milk and cake have a nice vibrant color but the cream on top is more of a purple grey color (could be more appetizing looking). I wish there was more distinct ube flavor and that the cake was a little taller. If you get this to go, I think some steamed/poached pear would go nicely with it. Ube bread pudding - of the 5, this was probably the best of them but again, it just tasted sweet! It really needed more ube flavor and would be better if it had pieces of purple sweet potato in it! Also, if you plan to get this to go, note that they WILL NOT / CANNOT substitute the ice cream. Since I was bringing this home,l after completing some more errands, I asked if I could get whipped cream, flan, drizzle, or anything that wouldn't melt on top in lieu of the ice cream. The service is SO FRIENDLY here! We came by to finally fulfill my halo-halo craving and was greeted by a friendly team and Star Wars decor! I ordered a regular halo-halo, Thai Tea, and the ube leche flan cupcake. The cupcake was really nice and has a good weight to it; the ube flavor is nice and is not sweet. The leche flan topping is very good and has a nice texture to it. The halo-halo is pretty good, but I was missing the beans that traditionally come with it. The jellies and boba still gave the halo-halo a good flavor, and I will come back to order it. The Thai Tea was good but not sweet, so next time, we will ask if we could add so more sweetner. The parking situation isn't too bad here. There are plenty of businesses around, but when we had gone, there were lots of available spaces upfront. read more

Yay a Filipino dessert place in Az! I've been to the location in San Diego and I liked it, plus being Filipino I was happy to see they opened up a location here. Lots of parking, interior isn't tiny but isn't huge. There's a couch and three tables inside. There were a couple tables outside but no chairs... I like the big menu on the side of the wall when you walk in. This old mom's eye sight can be yikes sometimes so I appreciate that. Hehe You can see the desserts in the clear case next to the cashier but I think it would be helpful if they put labels so people know what they are. They also offer a few savory sandwiches if sweets are not your thang... Drinks- The ube and kouki milkshakes are delish. I like that they offer a small size, perfect for my kids. I ordered the ube latte and I didn't like the taste of it. My friend didn't either and we agreed it had a weird after taste. Desserts - The leche flan cupcakes - good! I just prefer my leche flan to be more jiggly but personal pref and prob need it to be firm to stay on top of the cupcake. I visited Café 86 after reading so many great reviews, but I honestly found it overhyped. The guys working there were friendly, but the pastries and drinks didn't meet my expectations. There are few, but there is some seating to relax and maybe work or chat with a friend. The service was quick and friendly. The halo-halo was very good. Cafe 86 is an ube dessert themed cafe that also offers other fun Filipino-inspired specialities. The desserts are all quite rich with balanced sweetness. My personal favorite dessert I've gotten from here is the dinosaur Milo chocolate cupcake. It had such a deep chocolatey flavor! The ube desserts do get their pretty purple coloring from food dye, which can stain your mouth in case that is a concern. I would recommend the calamansi drinks over the milk teas. The milk teas felt very thin and overly sweet to me. If you do get a milk tea, I would recommend ordering it with at least 25% less sugar than you normally would at a boba shop. The milkshakes are rich and hit the spot if you got a craving! Staff are all friendly and if you're lucky, you may get to meet the owner's dog who is also super friendly! A great thing that Cafe 86 does is they also support local communities and events with a board towards the back. Although they're technically a chain, I love seeing that more personal touch in a business. There are so many dessert options in the valley, but Cafe 86 does stand out with its inspired offerings. I was really excited to come here for their halo halo. So I ordered that and that matcha monster. The halo halo was really disappointing. It had ube ice cream, the flan, some red and green jellies, crushed ice, jackfruit, boba, and I'm not sure what the base is but it did not taste good. They also put corn flakes on top which I wasn't a big fan of. I honestly just ate the ube ice cream and the flan. Rest was such a waste. I feel like there's a lot of things missing in this halo halo but it needs a lot of improvement.. Also why is there boba on the halo halo? I've never seen or heard of that my entire life and I'm Pinay.. Ay naku. Never again. The matcha monster was good. That's why I'm giving this 3 stars. Otherwise I'd give them no stars at all. I've been here a couple of times, and with such a large menu, I'm likely coming back. There's always something new that catches my attention and draws me in for the next visit. I often repeat getting the ube cupcake with flan on top or the halo-halo. Most recently, I tried the turon pop-tart, and if you love banana turon, it's a must-try. You won't go wrong with whatever you order. Since the shop is on the smaller side, I usually order out and take it home, but there are definitely seats available inside and up front. I was really excited when I found out cafe 86 has finally opened their own chain in AZ. I used to go to the one in Cerritos. Today is my first time coming to this location. I ordered some few treats and drinks. Ube tres leches: 4/5 I like the ube taste but it might be too sweet and portion is kinda small. Ube butter bar: 2/5 the gram cracker crumb was way too hard. The ube top is lacked in flavor cause it tastes more like a butter bar than an ube bar. ( asked the employee what is it and she couldn't explained it) Ube flan cupcake: 3/5 cupcake is dry, lack of flavor as well but the flan is good to balance for the cupcake. Hibiscus tea: 4/5 diluted a little bit but it was fine Tiger tea: 1/5 terrible, super diluted, tastes like water and thai tea, boba was bitter and way too soft that melted in your mouth right away. The Ube flavor was on point. We took multiple Ube treats to go to try at home. We were so excited for the calamansi drinks and they were like essence of calamansi. We ordered the dragoberry and the strawberry and they put strawberry on both so it was hard to differentiate the two drinks. One was insanely syrupy but had more of a Calamansi flavor the other was very light so I'm assuming that was the strawberry. We ordered a little of everything almost. The ube crack cheesecake, the flan ube cupcake, the ube tres leches and the turon pop tarts because they had jackfruit which SOOOOOOO many Filipinos lack out here. Idk what the deal is. Turon without jackfruit shouldn't be called turon in my opinion. After getting home we decided to try the turon pop tart first. The jackfruit was good but the banana was odd. It didn't taste like plantain it was almost like mushed up rotten bananas that aren't very sweet. The ube cheesecake was our favorite along with the flan on top of the cupcake. The cupcake was kind of dry and not very moist. The tres leches was our least favorite for sure. A little nervous to even go back to try any of the other drinks. Don't think I'll try any more of the desserts. The whole place was a little small. We went up to tiicup up the road for chicken and calamari and definitely regretted getting the calamansi drinks. Awesome place! was informed that there is a mechanic influence as well, so if you've watched Initial D the anime you'll see the reference :) we tried 6 desserts: tres leches, ube crinkle cookies, flan cupcake, the truffle, butter bar, and crack cheesecake. The flavor of ube was strong in each dessert. While they were a bit on the sweeter side, no complaints at all. Nice purple theme throughout the place. Tried this spot again, as we come to this area on Fridays occasionally for a car meet, and it was a much better experience this time! We ordered the Mermaid drink and an Ube milk tea, with an ube crinkle cookie. The Mermaid is an interesting concept, but was a little too floral for me (not their fault, just my taste preference). Conveniently my gym is located next to Cafe 86. I decided to give it a try today after passing by it several times. I opted for the Ube latte, it is caffeine free, perfect for me since I avoid caffeine. They were also able to make my drink less sweet, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed the creaminess of my drink. My fiancé opted for their Nutella latte which he enjoyed. We skipped out on the available pastry, but they did look delicious.
