Apparently, a group of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) is considered a large group and the 18% tip is added. I recently moved to the area and wanted to try a new brunch spot. I ordered the Wisconsin Scramble which comes with two slices of toast. When the food arrived at the table there was MOLD on the crust of my toast. My friend and I looked it over and were like, "Is this seriously mold?" Upon picking up the piece of bread we also found what looked like a long, black hair on the second piece. We waved our waitress over and she apologized profusely and asked if I'd like some new slices (at that point, I declined). I expected her to offer some sort of compensation but she didn't say another word about the moldy/hairy bread (and never brought it up to the supervisor). The actual Wisconsin Scramble was not very good either. My boyfriend tried a few bites and described it as "gritty" and "greasy." When we went up to pay our bill there was a lady (who I'm assuming was a supervisor) on the phone with a customer. Her attitude with the customer was surprisingly poor and her frustration was becoming apparent as she said things like, "I know who you are. You want a refund? Fine, you can come in and get a refund." At that point a second worker came up to handle our bill. I told her about my moldy/hairy bread. She apologized and excused herself to speak with our waitress. She came back and said "We'll give you a 20% off discount but just so you know that wasn't a hair, it was a bristle from our butter brush." Who cares if it's a bristle? It shouldn't be on the piece of toast regardless! At that point the supervisor got off the phone and jokingly said "Well, that was a customer who was a little disappointed, but how was your meal?!" The staff just seemed strange and unprofessional, the food was awful, the decor and look of the place is out-dated and dingy, and there was mold on my bread. Well I am going to start by saying that previous reviews of wait times is extremely accurate. We arrived at 9:45 am and had a short wait of 5 minutes for a table as the restaurant was full, a good omen that the food should be good. After being seated, it was 10 minutes to get a drink and another 5 minutes for her to take our order. It has been 45 minutes and no table touch, but the table next to us that was seated at the same time was told the kitchen was 'on a wait and sorry. At 1 hour our food was finally served. The food was hot and looked appetizing. My girlfriend had the eggs florentine benedict. The eggs were poached perfect, the potatoes seasoned nicely and overall was good. I had the agora skillet. It was nicely presented in a layered fashion, but did not have the pita with it as noted. The item was fresh, but only lukewarm and while I love Kalamata olives, they were a bit overpowering in the dish. Overall though, it was good as well. The disappointment was with the strawberry fruit crepe. It was literally a crepe with chopped strawberries tossed on it and some whipped cream. No sauce to speak of, so it was dry and unappealing. Service was mediocre. There was clearly not enough staff and the wait time would be okay if service and food were spectacular, but the food was just good and the service was below par. This place has great potential if they can get their act together with service times, but until then... do not expect anything less than a very long wait and poor service. read more

A very desolate restaurant when we went. There were only like two people in there and it was completely silent. No music, no people, a ghost town. I was in the mood for brunch though so I was happy to see a veggie omelette option, and that I could have fruit as my side. I wanted to go the healthier route and ordered my omelette without cheese on it. Unfortunately all of the vegetables were swimming in butter. Like I cut open the omelette and a little pool of butter poured out. It didn't taste that bad, it was just too much, they need to use less. My sister got a bagel sandwich and had a similar problem..just way too much stuff. Too much cheese and fatty stuff on there left her feeling sick and unable to eat much. The fruit I got was very fresh though, very tasty and I liked it. My dad got a salad and thought it wasn't too bad. I told her it was no need for her to get upset but obviously she wasn't hearing my BLACK ASS. And I'm emphasizing BLACK because not only was my party the ONLY BLACK people in the establishment she made it so uncomfortable by staring at us the whole ENTIRE time. I am very disappointed in the way this cafe is handling social distancing since the state of Wisconsin opened for business. The pandemic is still with us but Cafe Agora does not seem to be aware of this. If they are aware, then they do not care. None of the staff wear masks, not the hostess nor the waiters. In fact, the hostess has a habit of visiting the tables to chat and standing far too close. When I was there, they filled every booth in one area instead of every other booth. The menus were not disposable, the salt and pepper shakers were on the table, thus making you wonder who touched them before you and were they sanitized. Because I have eaten there in the past, I know that there food is good (hence two stars instead of one.) But I do not want to risk my life and the lives of those I love in order to dine there. Yes they are short handed...but it took ONE HOUR to get our food...breakfast. No one came around to check on us while waiting to explain for the wait. The waitress said there was a large takeout order..so I guess seated customers can wait. We were very polite to our waitress and tipped her, BUT when talking the the "manager" she really offered no apology, no discount, and really did not care we were unhappy. She said it was 50 minutes not one hour. At that point, I paid and left. Have eaten here many times for breakfast and never had such poor uncaring service. I know that many that work on staff have been there a long time, but customer service training needs to happen. If I had known it would be an hour wait, I would have left and gone to mcdonalds. My husband had a salad that consisted of iceberg lettuce and 1 tomato slice. My turkey pannini was incredibly bland. No seasoning and the bread was very dry. It was just turkey and cheese on bread since I removed the soggy bacon (did they even bother to cook it?) and didn't order a tomato. Blah! My husband's mostaccioli was absolutely disgusting. The noodles were very overcooked and the sauce was horrible. It was basically non-sweet tomato sauce with a little bit of ground beef in it, but it had absolutely no flavor. There was no garlic, no basil and no oregano...no seasoning at all. BLAH, again. The green beans were soggy and canned, and the garlic bread was hard and dry. Ick. We were both incredibly disappointed in the food and the service. The waitress was nice but she was incredibly rushed and didn't seem like she had time for us, despite the fact that she only had 3-4 other tables at a non-busy time of the day. She brought the wrong soup and I went with an empty drink glass for at least 10 minutes before she remembered she said she'd bring me a new one. REALLY not impressed. It was our first and last visit. I went there with my mother this morning. I ordered eggs over medium w/ hash browns and toast. The eggs were partially scrambled, not over medium. The hash browns were burnt and dry. The toast was 10% toasted at most. My mother ordered french toast which wasn't fully cooked either. When I went to pay, I waited in a line of 4 people while the manager went out from behind the counter to talk to people about how she had to call the fire department yesterday because someone smelled smoke. When it was finally my turn to pay, she legitimately said that I was lucky to have heard her beautiful story about the previous day. What a great place!! I am on the road a lot and get food to go. I stopped in and a very pleasant lady greeted me. I told her I wanted to place an order to go. The food here is really good. Having said that, the service today left a lot to be desired. We have eaten in this restaurant many times before and typically have a good experience. Understanding that it was a holiday, in addition to the typical Sunday rush, we expected to have a long wait for a table and slower speeds for food delivery. We did not, however, anticipate what would actually happen. After being seated, we had quite a while to check out the menu before anyone came to the table. When our server finally came, we ordered our food and drinks at the same time. Drinks came and we began the wait for our food. While waiting, 5 different tables came in, ordered, ate and LEFT. Still no food. When all was said and done, we waited 58 minutes for the food for 3 of the people in our party of 4. Then another 10 minutes for the food for the 4th.... by then the other food was cold. A total wait of over an hour for pancakes, eggs and French toast?! After excuse upon excuse, they took $6 off of the total bill. Having worked as a server for many years when I was young, I seem to remember providing many more apologies and discounts for people who have been so inconvenienced. The final straw happened upon checkout when several of the servers all gathered around and were rude to my children and I and tried to argue why we should not receive a discount. I live in West Bend, where to my knowledge there aren't any breakfast joints that aren't gross (i.e. slimy meat mixed in with overcooked eggs, oversalted, and overwarmed under the heat lamp), and I gladly drive to Menomonee Falls for a nice breakfast at Agora. The management and wait staff are extremely friendly, attentive, and quality oriented. When you check out, the manager always makes an honest effort to hear your complaints, if you had any. Food is normally pretty good, although overpriced. Unfortunately had a very bad/rude experience when ordering online from GrubHub. I went in to pick up my order and the lady said she didn't have it and that they stopped using GrubHub and told them to shut their account down 11 months ago and then unplugged the machine...? So I'm confused and had already paid so I asked what they could do to help me out and she said it's not their problem and I need to call GrubHub, then she walked away mid conversation. Now more confused I stood by waiting for her to come back again because I had more questions and really just wanted some food, but she ignored me for 5 minutes, would look over and see I was there, and walk in the back.
