Not too much to say about Cafe Americana except that it's a convenient place to wait for folks arriving to Dulles (especially if they are arriving from an international destination). To be honest, I stopped here because it was the first bar that I saw after clearing boarder control and picking up my luggage. It's a pretty simple spot with about 6-7 beers on draft and standard airport bar bites (eg sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, fries, etc). I had an IPA that was about $12, which isn't too bad for airport prices. Also, I had a huge glass of water with ice that I did not have to request (IFYKYK). I thought the bartender/server was fine - pretty standard service. While the bartender spent a bit of time on her phone, I wouldn't fault her for that because I think there were only two other people at the bar. While the ambiance of the bar isn't too much to write home (or to Yelp) about. It's location will give you a chance to see folks holding Welcome Home or Welcome to the US signs, flowers, and/or their phones to shoot arrival videos read more

Food was fine. Got a caesar salad and a quesadilla. Service was basic - took our order, got our food on time. Did not check in with us. The damning thing was that they automatically charged 20% gratuity for two people dining. I didn't tip on top of the 20%. The server walked over and looked at the receipt I signed and asked "how was the service?" and then said I didn't tip. I said the 20% tip was already charged. THIS IS THE BEST "LOCATION" IF YOU'RE WAITING FOR SOMEONE AT THE INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL!!! The only reason to go there is the premium location! Unfortunately I wanted to like this place and I think I can spend the time there drinking my regular Espresso and water and enjoy a premium spot facing the door so I can immediately meet whoever I'm waiting for! Also the hours are a bit lame! They don't open early enough even that flights start arriving before 5 am! It's the best time for them to be opened but they would be closed! This terrible experience happened when I was using their To-Go side! I saw the nice Espresso machine ( the machine is really good one!!) and thought they will be better than Starbucks! I stood by the cashier and I saw nobody! I was waiting patiently and kept looking around, looked at the menu! Took my photos for Yelp then I started to wonder? I started saying Hello?? (Nicely, lol) then I started to hear a voice like someone is talking softly or whispering (don't worry, breathe normally, no suspense hear at all! lol) then I looked where the sound is coming from and I saw the cafe employee sitting on the floor and talking over the phone thru her Bluetooth headset!! I was like, wow!! Ok!! We all use our phones during work but most of us has the respect to leave it when we see our customers/clients or coworkers ! I asked the lady, can I get a latte with skim / fat free milk, The answer was no, we don't have it!! How about %2 or %1 ? The answer was still no! Then I finally asked, then what do you have? The answer was only "regular" milk! Took the regular milk and the employee is still on her phone the whole time! I even wanted to skim the foam or get a spoon to do it myself but she was too distracted to hear me and when she did, it took her a few moments to realize what I need! Also look at the display in the photo? Very dull ! One or two choices! Unfortunately the place is probably having slow business because maybe not so many people like to spend money waiting for their loved ones to arrive from international trips ! But this place has seen a different glory when it opened years ago! I wish there could be a solution to refresh it and bring it back as it was! Great place to wait for international arrival. The seats are not very comfy though. They're the cheap aluminum kind but it beart fighting for a seat in the main waiting area. Priced decent and a perfect view for arrivals. Staff is friendly but no space for a walker or wheelchair to park unless you sit in it and out of the way of the tables. read more

Not much to say here lol. This is an airport sit down restaurant & they also have walk up counter service. Was waiting for my son to come out of customs, from visiting family in France for the Holidays, & it was pouring rain out so we got a coffee & a water to enjoy while we waited. We did not eat & got out bevs from the counter service instead of the little restaurant. They have pasties, sandwiches, pizza & snacks as well as coffees, teas & cold drinks. Cashier was nice and had a warm smile when she helped us. Would wait here again... maybe get a real bev if the weather was better. read more

Good food but not so great service. I had a few hours to kill before my Global Entry appointment so I decided to stop here and get some lunch. I sat at the bar, but the bartender was nowhere to be found, so I sat at an empty bar for a few minutes before one of her colleagues informed her that she had a customer. There were lots of delicious options on the menu, but I decided on the lasagna... and it was really good. It was served with a few slices of bread which were fantastic for soaking up some of the extra sauce. The portion was commensurate with the price and it was a great lunch overall. I only saw the bartender again after she dropped off my check and then disappeared. I waited for at least 10 minutes for her to come back and pick up the check. Finally I had to ask one of the kitchen staff to get her to come out and close out my bill. I'm giving Cafe Americana 1 star due to their costumer service and their inability to make a hot cup of coffee. I came to have a nice cup of coffee while I wait for my dog to arrive from Brussels. I walk up to the counter and see a worker hunched over the counter on her phone. I stood right in front of her and not once did she look up at me. I thought maybe I'll stand by the register. Still she didn't come over but other workers just stood and stared at me. I went back over to the woman on her phone and asked if she was open. She looks up and slams down her phone. I order a large cappuccino hot and just started to look everywhere except at the woman who was just giving me a smug look while making my coffee. She told me the price and I paid. I took a sip of my drink expecting it to be hot but it was warm at best. I told her that my drink wasn't hot and asked if she could heat it up. She rudely tells me she would have to dump it and make another. Not wanting to deal with the rude woman anymore, I walked away and sat down. As I was sitting there drinking my cold cappuccino, a gentleman comes over to me and asks if he could order the coffee here. I told him he could, he would have to go around the column to the register. Once the gentleman walks away, the manager comes over popping her gum and told me that I can't tell people that they have to order here and that I needed to get up and leave because I couldn't sit here and drink my coffee. I told her that I had ordered it from here and I was going to sit here and finish my drink. She just stood there popping her gum while giving me a dirty look. I turned my head towards her and asked if she had an issue and she just walked away. She is still standing like 10 feet away popping her gum and giving me a dirty look. I don't know how the food is but if it's anything like the customer service or the cold cappuccino then it's not worth my time. I'm out at Dulles at least once a month for work and Cafe Americana is my favorite place to eat outside security. Located on the lower level by the exit for international arrivals from US customs, they have good pizza, sandwiches, breakfast, and salads in their sit down area and a grab and go counter for coffee and bakery items. read more

I'm not exactly sure what is going on at this restaurant, but I was sorely disappointed by my experience here. It's a classic-looking and classy location with an appetizing menu, decent prices, and good spot in the terminal outside of security and arrivals. Unfortunately, that's where the good part ended. I have never encountered a wait staff more uninterested in providing service, between a virtually non-existent greeting upon my arrival, forgetting to bring my glass of water until I was almost done with my entree, sitting down on a a stool and watching videos on their personal phones, bringing me the check before I had finished ordering everything, and, with respect, not understanding how airline food vouchers work. On top of that, the food was filling but mediocre, with a greasy take on Neapolitan pizza and boxed pre-made cheesecake with no fruit or drizzle. My advice: go somewhere else outside the airport. It seems like there are deeper issues here at this place and if there's something going on behind the scenes, I feel badly for the staff. But this was my experience as a customer and until and unless something changes, I cannot recommend this establishment. read more
