I actually like that its a small place, a bit tricky to find . If you want a nice patio , with romantic feel , but with enough light to read the menu , a place where you can have a discussion while sipping a cocktail , then enjoying good italian good , this could be it! Everything is good, the menu is not huge, nothing super fancy , but good soup, pizzas , a very decent "Bolognaise "which is my husband fav. They do have specials du jour , like a pasta with lobster and crab , a decent wine list, the classic dolce , the complete "enchilada "'if I may say . The restaurant is part of the "Beverly Terrace" hotel so the service is not always constant, depending on the hotel clientele I imagine, but I had no problem,always enjoyed the waiters ,very friendly and professional ! read more

Someday, I hope to become multilingual for many reasons. One reason is to be able to order my food in another language and to discreetly tell the staff in a restaurant about their problems, without discouraging other diners. This would've been most appropriate as we dined at Trattoria Amici. We've dined here before and enjoyed the service but, I'll use the excuse of "new employees" for the less-than-perfect service we recently experienced. Being just a party of four, I didn't think we required much from our waiter. The restaurant was almost full but wasn't terribly busy. After our water and complimentary bread was brought, we ordered the Pizza Margherita as an appetizer. This pizza arrived almost 20 minutes later, but I will say it was worth the wait. With a long wait and hunger pains increasing, we devoured the pizza rather quickly and started to look for our waiter to order entrées. Becoming impatient, I turned around and noticed the diners next to our table looking rather distressed, and one gentleman shook his head and stated they were also looking for the waiter. So, the waiter finally came and took our orders which consisted of Petto Di Pollo Grigliato Con Limone E Capperi, Linguine Al Pollo Affumicato E Caprino, and Penne Al Pollo E Broccolini. Immediately, after ordering, I informed the waiter to visit the table next to ours. After almost forgetting what I ordered, due to the long wait, our food arrived. It was heavenly, and therapeutic, as my hunger pains were starting to come two minutes apart, as if I were having labor pains. This is a good restaurant but I strongly suggest they thoroughly train their staff to cater to the customers in a more prompt manner. I'm not implying that they should haste to the tables and move with the grace of ballerinas, however, just periodically check on customers and, perhaps, offer free appetizers if there will be a longer delay in the entrées arriving. Hopefully, these improvements will be in force before we return, otherwise, we'll be saying arrivederci to this Italian restaurant. read more

Where to do I begin?! From the second I walked in the service was HORRIBLE, I wasn't greeted at all! I sat at table with friends and had NO menu or drink menu. I had to get up out of my chair to ask for a menu which I was told by the bartender he would bring it over, took at least 10 minutes! I love this delightful (or should I say "wonderful"? - I never know which adjective to gesticulate from my lexiconic suppository) Italian eatery whose al fresco garden patio is reminiscent of a Collette novel or a Renoir painting. I enjoyed supping on my pasta - its toh-mah-toh sauce a perfect balance of tangy insouciance and sweet naivete - as the buzzing of the busy bees drowned out the buzzing of the busy S.U.V.s (tee hee) on the Wilshire/Santa Monica confluence of traffic. The young lady who introduced me to this ristorante has vaporized from my existence like an Egyptian artifact that was looted by a Laura Croft-like tomb raider and has vaporized from the annals of history, but Amici will always remain dear to my heart - like the memory of my first crush: Farah Fawcett (sans Major). Summary: Good food, mediocre environment. We had plans to catch a show at the Troubadour, and stopped at Amici for dinner first, since it's pretty much across the street (ground floor of the Beverly Terrace hotel). It was still light when we came for dinner and we noticed that there wasn't much by the way of decor. Hard backed chairs, tablecloths, a neat counter, but not much else. Later on they dimmed the lights and added candles, which was nice, but yeah - not the place to go to if you want interior design eye candy. The food, though, is why you'll come. We were going to order the bruschetta, but were told by the server that the bread is served with the bruschetta tomato mix (so all it would be missing is the fresh mozzarella). The guy saved me $10! And the flatbread and tomato mix are both fabulous. I got the penne arrabiata, which is served with sauteed eggplant and (you guessed it) fresh mozzarella. J got spaghetti with Manila clams and lobster. My penne was cooked perfectly and the sauce was well seasoned, fresh, and even a bit creamy. The eggplant and mozzarella added to the dish nicely. J expected little bits of lobster, but was surprised when there was a half-lobster tail's worth of meat (about half a small lobster) on top of his pasta. And it was cooked very well. We didn't go for dessert, but our check was accompanied by a few delectable cookies - chocolate chip and butter. What else could you ask for? read more

I love this place. It's really small, with zero pretension. The owner is really nice too. The patio is really nice. Definitely a great date place because the food is really good but it's not overly fancy. Even though you're on Doheny and Santa Monica, when you're in the restaurant you don't even feel like you're in LA because it's just so modest (not in a divey way but in a minimal way). I also get to-go from here a lot too, and they always give you bread with white bean spread, and tomatoes...so pretty much, free amazing bruschetta with whatever you order. There might be more fancy or foody-ish Italian food in LA, but if you're looking for solid Italian food, in a really calm setting, you'll love it here. Last evening started out a little chaotic when arrived there was no table for us because it was raining outside and all of the tables inside were taken. The small bar had all of there seats occupied and the wait staff were trying there best to serve. Small-charming space with a few servers. The owner was doing his best to resolve the weather issue and limited space inside by bringing in a table inside-and it worked. We finally were seated and the evening began. Drinks were offered and placed. They brought over a basket of delicious warm flat bread with chopped tomatoes and a scrumptious bean dip. Drinks arrived and wonderful conversation began. We each ordered our selections of Rissotto pescatori loaded with mussels-clams-succulent shrimps-scallops-and prawn served over a perfectly prepared rissotto. My wife asked for chicken parm which was served on a prepared board. The linguini with clams was delicious as was the bronzino with loads of seafood was fantastic. Best NYE dinner ever. It's a small restaurant and the ambiance is great. It was pretty empty when we first got there and started to fill up as we were finishing up. The staff was attentive and friendly. I wanted the lamb chops but they were out. The waiter offered to have the veal done in the same sauce but I ordered pasta instead. The cabernet was so good. I'm not a big fan of red wine but that was amazing. I had the lobster and crab pasta. I love the pasta but the lobster was slightly overdone. Slightly. That's a spicy meatball! Man I love this place, something about it is special. It's an extremely simple restaurant. nothing too fancy. There is a small enclosed outdoor patio with vines and xmas tree lights. The inside is a small wood room with minimal decor. Whenever I go here, I just feel very comfortable and welcomed. The waiters are great, probably the nicest and warmest I've ever seen in LA. The food is really really good, and could be way more expensive than it is. I frequently see big actors here, I'm assuming because it has a very private/in-the-know feel to it. They start you off with these pita type crackers with this amazing hummus like dip and fresh chopped tomatoes with basil, awesome. I'd suggest making a reservation because it's small. Chicken Parmesan - My favorite dish. A huge portion, could probably feed two. One suggestion, ask for it with linguine with the SPICY tomato sauce. My friend from New York was visiting LA so he, his cousin and I went to dinner here with a couple other people. For a weekend night it was suspiciously empty but it lent itself to a more intimate atmosphere. The bread and tomato dip was delicious. The wine was good. The meal was tasty as well although I cannot remember what I ordered. I remember that my friend had the gnocchi and it seemed like a really small portion. I want to say that I got the fettuccine bolognese, but I really don't remember. What I do remember, however, is being very full by the end. This review coincides with the review I just posted about the overall Hotel Beverly Terrace in which this restaurant is housed. My BFF were in town for a quick overnight stay and were pleasantly surprised at how cute and quaint the hotel was, especially the restaurant! We had both breakfasts here as well as dinner, all of which were superb! What astounded us the most was how friendly and awesome the staff was! Can't remember her name (I'm horrible at names) but our server both mornings was so funny and down to earth while our server for dinner was incredibly friendly, beyond knowledgeable of the menu and pretty handsome (last part was just a bonus lol!) It was nice not having to travel outside of the hotel to get a good meal with impeccable service! I am a truffle FANATIC! I loooooove truffles and I think there are not many places that do really fantastic truffle dishes. This place literally transported me w my taste buds back to Italy! I had the truffle pizza and a truffle pasta (special). Every bite had such intense truffle flavor -- it was heaven. Oh my- so delicious! We loved this place! Very quaint and cute with an outdoor patio and small, intimate indoor eating area. Decorated nicely. It doesn't hold a lot of people so I would definitely recommend reservations. After we were seated the best "bread" was brought to our table with some sort of cream sauce and fresh bruschetta. The bread was similar looking to pita bread but very fresh, airy and maybe fired in a pizza oven? Just delicious! My husband got the pepperoni pizza which was the same bread crust and I had spinach raviolini with sage, butter, basil and marinara. We had fresh Parmesan and red pepper flakes brought to the table. Our service was very nice, very friendly wait staff. It was nice to see staff in the restaurant taking the time to have conversations with the guests. Really quaint, small Italian restaurant as part of the Beverly Hotel Terrace. Staff are friendly and the setting intimate. Unfortunately, our food took a really long time (more than 60 mins after we ordered), as did the tables near us as well. Our server did say that they were a staff member down. To their credit, our server did get us a bit more wine and a house made tiramisu on the house because of the long wait. Ordered the breaded chicken which was on the dry-er side. Hidden gem for sure. Absolutely mouth watering food and sitting out on the patio made me feel oh so relaxed. Their selection of wine is fantastic and everything we ate was classy and delish. Service was wonderful as well. I got their chicken ravioli special with the burrata as a starter, my friends black truffle pasta was TO DIE FOR (also a special, and moderately priced considering to mark up when trufles come into the occasion). Hmm, to be real Cafe Amici looks better on Yelp than it tastes in person... I live down the street so I've been trying to venture here for awhile. It's a small, intimate restaurant with one or two (at the most) servers. I would say it's great for a date night or family meal. I unfortunately don't remember the dish I ordered (it was pasta) because it was quite unmemorable. The pita bread, hummus and tomatoes they bring out complimentary was probably the best part of the meal. My boyfriend didn't care much for his chicken pasta, maybe because he's Italian and can make his own pasta, God knows. They offered two complimentary cookies at the end of our meal and they are not the Ooey gooey just out of the oven type so don't be fooled. They were more of a stale and hard dessert cookie. The food was fine. If the review were just for the food and the cozy, old-world feel of the decor, it'd get 4 stars. But, whether it was the manager or the owner, WHAT A GROUCH!!! When a child asked for more hummus, he grumped back that it was a white bean dip. Really? Whatever happened to hospitality and graciousness? And if he were being grumpy because we hadn't yet ordered, we would have gladly if someone had come by to take the order or, eventually we realized, if he had simply stopped long enough to ask if we were ready to place the order. Repeat after we received the dessert menu. Our party would have placed an order except no one came by again. FOR AN HOUR. Not only for us but for the other two tables in the restaurant as well. Imagine three tables full of people with their bodies and faces positioned toward one corner of the room in anticipation of someone - a server, the manager/owner, the bus boy, anyone - to flag down for a check. I finally got up and went over to a server behind a nook to give us the check. It took at least another 10 minutes for the owner/manager to actually deliver the check. Rather than wait futilely to ask for pens, I whipped out my lipstick to write out the amount to be split between our table's two cards. After another ten minutes, he came by, only to grump what the numbers meant. Then, disregarding our request, split the check evenly. We dined here several nights before Valentine's Day to celebrate early and to avoid the crazy rushes that would ensue. After being recommended this spot by a friend, we figured it'd be worth a go... considering we're big fans of Italian food. First off, this place is virtually indiscernible. You have to drive down a small, blocked off street only to come up to a cozy looking hotel under which the restaurant resides. Even with this harder-to-find restaurant location, it was still somewhat busy there. We were greeted by a very nice host, followed by an even nicer waiter. We opted to sit outside in the uber cute patio. It was a chilly night, but we were bundled up well. The waiter insisted on bringing us the heat lamp... and that he did. It was a very nice gesture. To Order: Special of the Day - Calamari -One would expect fried... as did I. When the appetizer came out, though, and it was only lightly breaded calamari... slightly crispy on the first bite yet chewy on all subsequent bites, I smiled. Drizzling the lemon all over it gave it the finishing touches it needed. Granted, it was a bit on the pricey side (more expensive than each main course), it was definitely worth the order. Turkey Lasagna -Truth be told... I wasn't all too impressed by this dish. Given the multitude of lasagna I've had in my day, this was good... just not great. Looking at the prices, however, I expected great. The turkey was flavorful, don't get to me wrong... but the lasagna was lacking an overall "kick" that would make it stand out. The tomato sauce seemed to blend in with the rest of the lasagna experience. In general, I'd consider this a 2-3 Star dish. Chicken Rigatoni -This was the star of the night. It most certainly upstaged mine. The sauce was "zesty," as described on their menu, the rigatoni was slightly al dente, and the chicken sausage really provided that salty kick that I was looking for in my lasagna. It was well seasoned, well presented, and even better tasting. In addition to an overall above-average food, I was very impressed with how quaint the restaurant was. As I mentioned before, very unsuspecting. The service was stellar... water service consistent, very nice, comical wait staff, and just a jolly good time... I'd definitely give this place 4 Stars. Perhaps on my next visit (there will be more), if I can order something that wins, and the service maintains its excellence, they may see 5 Stars coming in its near future. read more
