TLDR: underwhelmed, food and drinks are okay, but for the price you'd be better off elsewhere. The execution was simply dismal. Overall, this was a pretty substantial disappointment. The restaurant is located in an older, well kept hotel on the edge of the Beverly Hills neighborhood. The ambiance is nice, behind a pretty hedge and lit by table candles and nice looking gas heaters. Plus, as the few patrons in the restaurant, we enjoyed attentive service. However, the food and drinks were underwhelming at best. For starters, I had the old fashioned which was good but was pretty obviously Buffalo Trace or Bulleit Bourbon, so a quality cocktail but nothing impressive for $18. Generally, you'd expect better. The food was very underwhelming. The penne alla vodka was also palatable, but looked like someone had just poured canned sauce over noodles. There was no basil or herbs on top, just sauce and noodles. My friend got cacio e pepe and it was similar (with the exception of the pepper.) I was disappointed. read more

This was one of the best dining experiences my partner and I have had in LA. The service was phenomenal. The drinks were delicious. The food was perfection. The atmosphere was great. Abel and his staff took excellent care of us. The starter bread and white bean dipping sauce is fantastic. My partner ordered the white truffle gnocchi which was hands down our favorite thing on the menu. I had the spaghetti with meatballs (off-menu), which was very tasty. Such a lovely "hidden" gem right on Santa Monica Blvd. at the Beverly Terrace Hotel. Enjoyed their pre-fix lunch which is a great meal for only $28 with starter, entree and dessert. And the cheesecake is homemade! You can sit inside or out but it's so cozy with hedges that it feels like a little taste of Italy. In short: thieves. My partner and I had dinner here recently. The food and service were great, but when we got home, we realized my partner's Prada cap was missing. We were the last customers and had closed the restaurant. We called immediately, and the waiter who served us answered. She remembered us and checked for the cap but found nothing, even though she said they had just cleaned our section. She suggested we might have lost it on the way home, which we found unlikely. The next day, I spoke to the manager, who also claimed they found nothing. I asked to see the security footage since we were the last customers, but he said the cameras weren't working. This situation left me frustrated, as a restaurant of this quality shouldn't have these issues. If this review isn't addressed by the management, I will contact the local police. read more

Came here for the bottomless mimosas on a Saturday with a group of 7 girls(including me). First of all, we were the only people dining at the restaurant when we walked in and as were we were finishing our meals a couple walked in so in total there were 9 people in the restaurant and the service was lacking to say the least. And on top of that they charge an automatic TWENTY PERCENT!! 20% TIP for parties of 6 or more. For the service they provided us being basically the only customers at the restaurant, I do not think they deserved being tipped 20% which translates to "exceptional service." We would have to personally get up and look for staff whenever we wanted to refill our bottomless mimosas or ask for another set of utensils or condiments which was absurd because we were the only people they had to take care of. Some of the food was pretty good I'll admit, but one of my friends ordered the "burrata toast" and it was literally 4 slices of tomatoes, a ball of burrata, and a "toast" the length of my thumb for $18. Growing up in my family's restaurant, a few things are quite obvious to me that might not be to someone who is on the other side of the menu. The most crystal clear thing I saw was that customers return where they feel wanted. Where the staff knows them by name. Where they don't feel like they're a finding stream so much as a welcomed guest who happens to throw some cash down on their way out to compensate everyone there for five-star treatment. Amici doesn't miss this point. Not by a long shot. And amongst their staff, all of whom were warm and wonderful and engaging and welcoming, stood out young Alex, who treated us as though we were his absolute favorite guests in his own personal dining room, who greeted us with sincere delight at our presence and continued the theme of warmth and welcomeness and caring from start to finish. From the drink orders to the appetizers to the entree recommendations to his understanding that we were far too full for dessert... he somehow made us feel like we weren't customers, but guests. He made me want to come back with my friends, to sit in his section, to show people that whatever negative thoughts they may have about LA generally or Beverly Hills specifically, that they're WAY off. The pasta was delicious. The wine was fresh and cold and delightful. Everything was just on. Point. And Alex was the guy you wish your sister's kid would have brought home from college instead of the loser that they picked out. Our evening at Cafe Amici started off with a bit of confusion: our friends told us to meet them there at 8:00. Now, I know there is a chain of pizza parlors called Ameci's and then there is the finer restaurant called Amici's. We went to Amici's in Brentwood as instructed. We arrived at 8:00 and they weren't there? Little did I know, there's an Amici's Brentwood and an Cafe Amici's in Beverly Hills. We jumped back in our car and drove to BH where our friends were waiting. I had forgotten about this restaurant, as I had eaten here some 30 years ago. Well, after all of the drama settled, we got seated and ordered drinks and food. Now, this was (and is) a 5 Star restaurant! That being said, the food was excellent, the service was excellent and the ambiance and noise level was excellent. So why the 4 Stars and not 5 Stars? I really don't know why, but a few small little things were just "Off". I mean nothing catastrophic (obviously), just enough to not give it 5 Stars. BTW, 4 Stars is still a very good rating. The Pizza Prosciutto was really good The Fritto Misto was excellent The Fettuccini Mare was quite good The Caesar Salad was constructed uniquely and was great The Orcchiette Pugliese was great The Mediterranea was - I forget what it was and their website does not have their menu so, I'll just say it was good. Let me get back to the few "Off" things: Valet Parking was full so we street parked and walked 3 block to the venue The bar pours were were not the Italian restaurant pours I'm used to. They were short. The dipping sauce for the Fritto Misto was cinchy. My gin martini with a olive and lemon twist came with no olive. I came here because my neighbor recommended it and I saw that there were many last minute reservations left and the photos on yelp looked good. When arriving, it was fine. I wore long pants because another review mentioned the bugs from the hedges. The bugs were indeed there so I'm glad I wore pants. As we sat down, things started off pretty decently. Then things started going downhill from there. First, the left outdoor side is the cuter side but they didn't seat anyone there, they sat the not as nice right side first. Fine, but I thought it would be odd not to seat the nicer side first. Then as it became darker, they had one overhead lamp on and none of the string lights. We asked for the string lights to be turned on, and they brought us a lamp for the table. I had to hold my food under the lamp to see if it was cooked to my liking. I ordered the lamb chops medium but it was medium rare/rare and I had to hold it under the lamp to see that it was basically raw. I sent it back and they cooked it to medium and it was much better. I did not like it at first but I couldn't see why. Eventually they turned on the string lights but seriously, it's such a simple thing to have on for ambiance. So, needless to say, this place was highly lacking in ambiance that day I dined in. These are my major gripes. I could go on but I think this review is already too long. I hope that you have a better experience than I did but I wouldn't recommend or go back. Okay, I have to add one more thing - my date eyed the hostess because he wanted something and she didn't get the social cue. Like, I guess you're supposed to stay at the hostess stand but literally no one is coming in right now. Again, good luck with your visit here. We were staying at the hotel and the courtyard restaurant setup and the menu looked so good we had to try it. It did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent. The owner and I had a chance to talk about how he started as a cook and became the owner over 15 years ago. He truly has a passion for what he does and it shows in the food. ARAGOSTA ALLA GRIGLIA CON SPAGHETTI Al GRANCHIO - spaghetti with grilled maine lobster and fresh louisiana crab meat in a light spicy tomato sauce. This was amazing! They add a whole lobster tail along with crab making it the perfect seafood combination. The spicy tomato sauce was a perfect mix along with some parmesan cheese! LASAGNA ALLA PIEMONTESE DI TACCHINELLA - homemade lasagna with turkey ragu and tomato sauce. My fiancé ordered this and it had a very unique flavor. It was definitely different and I really enjoyed it. I've never tasted lasagna like this and I highly recommend it. Very very good! Confused one night it's amazing and we take my cousin to dinner. Great atmosphere in the back patio, can hear the music and the food and service is perfect. My cousin was thrilled and he's been everywhere. So my girl and I thought why not come again the next day. Again one of those " What could Possible go wrong moments! " Like a Tarantino movie plenty can go to hell in a short time. They seat us next to a family where the time bomb of unruly kids is about to explode. No thanks! Move us to two stiff backed ice cream chairs in the worst possible location next to light and the entrance. That's the way they treat return guests which they knew? My back hurt and my date couldn't feel her ass and kept leaning forward to get comfortable. Well what can you say to that? But wait for it! They sat two women in cut off jeans, that will-probably order an appetizer and water in a nice corner table with chairs that don't require a next day chiropractic appointment. Like hummus but not hummus Salame pizze: this turned out to just be pepperoni pizza. Darn it. But it was extremely thin crusted and thin overall. Actually very good considering the expensive price. A lot of cheesy. Super strongly cheese but they went too light on the marinara sauce Pappardelle alla bolognese: this was pretty good! Turned out to be nothing more thn just bolognese pasta but made more elegant. Dark creamy white sauce with bolognese veal pieces in it. Very finely chopped Gemelli Regina: light red creamy pasta sauce with chicken and broccoli. Nothing too special but the sauce is so good! Both pastas can be microwaved and no oil excess came out! Bonus from me Pros: -kind of a romantic feel with the white Christmas lights hanging overhead out on the patio and the small candles lining the windows -nice friendly service -decent food -no wait -nice place to eat if you want just a quiet tucked away restaurant -residential street parking available across the street or you can pay $10 for valet at the front hotel restaurant Cons: -price is too expensive for it to be charged like fine dining when it isn't a fine dining restaurant -extremely smelly on the inside. Ordered takeout today from Cafe Amici. I ordered the Gnocchi, Tiramisu, and Cheesecake based on the rave reviews on yelp. Before diving into the food, I must admit it was a bit of a challenge and tricky navigating to Doheny Dr, but I was able to park right in front of the Hotel Beverly Terrace front door. The entrance is a little hidden, but if you see the entrance to Hotel Beverly Terrace, don't enter, but go to the right and walk down the sidewalk about 100 feet. Once I entered, I was happily greeted by the servers and a bartender. I picked up my food and I was on my way. The food smelled amazing and I could not leave the parking lot without giving the gnocchi a try. I put 2-3 dumplings and scooped some of the veal and veggie ragu in my mouth. Omg. I was hooked in an instant! I had about another 5 before I left. It's really hard to stop eating them! The dumplings are so soft, pillowy, with the perfect consistency. The ragu is sweet and savory and complements the gnocchi well. Well done, Cafe Amici. Next comes dessert. First bite of the cheesecake, hmm. Never tasted anything like this. I love it. The top of the cheesecake is a little bit firm, while the filling in the middle is soft. Some have said that it is ricotta, but I could not find any information about what the ingredients are. It is absolutely delicious. It's not your typical firm NY cheesecake you are used to. It is absolutely delicious and you will feel a million times happier after eating it. Onto the tiramisu. I have high expectations now. First thing I notice is a fresh strong coffee scent. There's a layer of white cream on top over the actual cake. The cream on top looks to have some kind of powder. I think it is nutmeg. The actual cake is sort of wet, like a tres leches cake. I can't really taste coffee flavor. In the end, the tiramisu was just OK. I really wanted to give Cafe Amici 5 stars. However, I had to knock them down just a little bit due to the tiramisu. The gnocchi and cheesecake were both fabulous and recommend them highly. I will be back to try more items on the menu! 4.5 stars. I'll round down to 4 in hopes that I will have a better experience with the tiramisu next time, bringing it up to a 5. read more
