This was my first time at Cafe Amici and I was not disappointed! I care for a late dinner. The restaurant is very quaint and gives you an upscale homey feeling. Perhaps 6-7 tables inside with a decent size patio outside. The wait staff was absolutely wonderful! Very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. My friend has a severe allergy and the waiter knew all the ingredients with accuracy. The food was very fresh, hot, and well made. This is a fancy Italian place in a not-so-fancy hotel. A little bit of a bizarre pairing, but we tried it regardless. It's a small restaurant, but it doesn't seem to get very crowded, so reservations are easy to make. We had a branzino dish and a truffle gnocchi. To start, the truffle pasta was really good. Definitely lots of truffle flavor, and the gnocchi was cooked well. The branzino on the other hand was not great. Unfortunately the fish was not seared or grilled so it lacked that browned crispy layer that I love on fish. The sauce was tomato and a little tart and not quite balanced. We also had the calamari which was good and crispy. On a side note, I tried my sister's seafood pasta. There were generous portions of clams, squid, shrimp, etc., and the sauce tasted seafoody, which was nice. Despite the mostly good food, the thing that will prevent me from going back is the price. Many of the entrees were $40, which is a bit pricey. The server was nice but the food took a very long time to come out, and there was a mistake on the check that we had to correct. I had to stay at the hotel for a while, so I had most of my dinners at Cafe Amici which is part of the BEVERLY TERRACE HOTEL, and everything I had eaten there was great. My favorites were the spaghetti and meatballs, the pizza, and the strip steak. Service was attentive but not hovering, and I never felt rushed, which is a good thing. You can ask about the nightly specials too. I would highly recommend Cafe Amici for great authentic Italian cuisine and the hotel was quaint and had very comfortable beds. You won't be disappointed with this little jewel of a hotel with an excellent Italian cafe, which is very cozy and private. read more

We live in the neighborhood and have always driven by thinking how cute this restaurant looks albeit in a random location. It's inside the Hotel Beverly Terrace, which is a 3 star hotel. I've never been inside the hotel or have stayed there, but it's just kind of a random hotel on the corner of Doheny. We decided to give it a shot one day because the weather was gorgeous and we wanted to sit outside. The ambience is adorable and quaint. The waiter was very friendly and attentive...well we were the only ones there besides another couple. We ordered the special which was a pappardelle with truffles and the margherita pizza. It was a little strange however, because the food came out literally in 5 minutes. We thought it was a little strange that it came out so fast. The pizza was really delicious, but it wasn't a margherita pizza, it was just a cheese pizza. There was tomato sauce and sprinkled mozzarella, but not the usual buffalo mozzarella with basil. There was no basil! We thought it was kind of funny, because it is an "Italian" restaurant, but didn't care because the pizza was really good! The pasta wasn't so good but we still ate it. I don't know why I didn't take any pictures. I think I was really hungry and was enjoying my company. read more

My husband and I have rediscovered Amici Cafe on the corner of Doheny and Santa Monica Blvd. Under new management the restaurant has been refreshed inside and out and is a real neighborhood gem! Great food (I enjoyed the Sea Bream and Broccoli soup which was made without cream or chicken stock and the artichoke salad and ravioli were also sensational and enjoyed by my husband. The outdoor patios in front and in the back have plenty of heaters and the inside is warm and cozy. A great place to go for a lovely meal and you can avoid the madhouse of Cannon Drive, Beverly Blvd or Melrose. You won't be sorry! read more

It all started with a botched to go order. I wanted to try the place hopefully finding a great restaurant within a 5 minute walk. I ordered chicken linguini based off a photo online of their menu. There was no sauce on the pasta at all (just a little oil), the chicken was very dry, and there was somehow a piece of salmon in it. So I called the restaurant to let them know and see how they handled it. The manager was appalled at how mangled my dinner was, and said he would give me a meal on the house. I didn't want any food from this place after this experience. It ended with me giving my cc details, they said they would refund it within the next few business days. I am a lenient and patient person so I have them two weeks, nothing was refunded so I go back. The first manager only tried to push a free meal to get me to leave. I told him I was promised a refund, and I will not eat their food because of how bad it was. I asked to speak to another manager because this guy obviously was not going to help. The host said he wished he could help me out so I could be happily on my way. The next manager brings me in the back, says it's a corporate issue. I left all of my info they asked for, he promised he'd be in contact Tuesday. Tuesday comes and goes and to no surprise I hear nothing. I go in on Wednesday night, the same host from last time immediately recognizes me and asks if I was refunded. I say no, he goes and gets the manager I spoke with in the back. He just looks pissed off that I'm back. He says it's approved to refund. I asked why he didn't contact me, the first time he said it was his off, then the next time I asked he said he was working so much. He couldn't keep his story straight on what he was doing the day he promised to contact me. He was just saying whatever to try and get me out the door again. He tells me to just write down the credit card information and then he walks away. The host remembers me by name, starts writing it down to get my information. I don't trust them to refund me since they didn't do it the first time. The host goes and talks to the manager who then brings me to the bar area. The refund is pulled up and just waiting for my card. Took 15 seconds from start to finish. The host was 5x more helpful than any manager there. The managers either tried to shut me up, or literally walked away. Saying they were so busy when I saw him just pop out in front of the restaurant and look around hands in his pockets. Normally I wouldn't post such a negative review on Yelp because I know how negatively they can impact local businesses. The manager let me know at least 7 times that it's so corporate there that I don't feel bad. The food was awful, the managers were worse. But the host was great, my one star goes to the host! read more

My fiancé had heard about Café Amici through one of his friends and recommended we go there for a Friday date night. I made our reservation for 6:30 PM a few days before, easily on OpenTable. We got there early enough that the place wasn't too busy. We were greeted by our server who right off the bat let us know that one of their servers had called out, and they are running behind so, if we want things to come out in a timely manner order them quicker than we usually would. That is great service, right there. Letting us know right off the bat! Our server-Lallo W was great, I did feel bad for him because he clearly had a lot of tables on his hands. Also, the bar was definitely backed up because it took me about 20 minutes to get my martini. When it finally arrived, it was delicious. My fiancé also ordered a highball, but ended up getting bourbon on the rocks which he had to send back, I think the bartender was overloaded as well. Despite the setbacks, everything about this place is absolutely charming. There is an outdoor area that faces the street when you first walk in, they have their indoor seating that includes sitting at the bar, and then they have another outdoor seating that faces the hotel courtyard. No matter where you sit, you will have a great experience because the entire place is like an Italian garden! I loved everything about it. The menu options were spectacular, and if it wasn't already hard enough to decide, they had about 10 amazing specials as well. They serve you complimentary delicious toasted pita bread and Italian hummus, which my fiancé and I filled up on. We also got the burrata for an appetizer. Our initial plan was to get pizza and a salad, but we are pretty much breaded out by the time we were done with the pita and appetizer. So we decided to get a salad and one of the seafood specials of the night was the branzino. Everything came out incredible. Again, we were there much longer than we normally would have because of the kitchen set back, but otherwise this place is a dream and I would definitely return! read more

I used to LOVE this place, it was my favorite neighborhood spot. I've recommended so many people to it and this weekend I went with my two friends, one of which had never been and the other had been off my recommendation and also loved it. But truly this was a 0 star experience. We waited 15 minutes to get seated and then an hour and a half to get our food, which was literally 3 basic pasta entrees. Which were AWFUL. Long story short, we hardly ever saw our waitress, she never checked in on us or apologized for the immense wait. Our $18 mezcal margaritas (which is highway robbery since it was a basic marg) was crazy strong and not balanced at all, so we had to ask twice for simple syrup. The pastas had NO FLAVOR. I wish I'd taken pictures. The cacio e pepe which is supposed to be thick and creamy had NO SAUCE ON IT. The meatballs on the spaghetti were tiny and tough. The burrata dish on the specials did not have fresh burrata and the pasta had hardly any sauce on it. I found it odd that our waitress pushed to get us to order salads when we ordered our food because she said the kitchen was running slower. She then of course later told us that our food was taking so long because we hadn't ordered any appetizers and that somehow gets the food in faster. I cannot believe we spent almost 2 hours waiting for $18 drinks and $23-30 something dollar pastas with no flavor, no toppings, nothing. We were never even offered more of the complimentary tomato and bean dip, or dessert or anything. Horrible experience. I'm never coming again. read more

I visited Cafe Amici as part of a wedding party where the entire patio was booked. It is a lovely space, lots of comfortable seating that allowed the guests to mingle. The food was great- my particular favorite was the appetizers. We had mini flatbread pizzas, caprese skewers with this insane balsamic glaze, and very flavorful Cesar salad. Overall a very pleasant experience- I'd definitely recommend this place for any private events with smaller groups (10-20 people or so). read more

This lower experience reflects my last visit to Cafe Amici. Once a favorite little nook to have delicious italian food, this restaurant seems to have taken a turn for the worse with new management. The interior is much brighter than it used to be, making it feel less romantic and intimate than it used to. When we arrived, no one came to greet us for several minutes, and when we were greeted, we were told we would need to wait 10 minutes for a table that was basically ready outdoors, and there were many more inside. While I understand a large party was wrapping up outside, the staff was completely distracted, less than kind (apologizing when the bill came), and took numerous times to order before our food came. The menu does have nice variety, but I think the prices are outrageous for the quality. I really hate writing negative reviews, but I think they need to up their game quite a bit to warrant the prices that are charged. Hoping to go back and find things changed in the future. read more

Cafe Amici was always a little gem of a local place but on the sleepy side. Then in the last few years, Abel took over and he was one of the driving factors for us visiting Cafe Amici so much since we rediscovered it. The food was always consistently good and the atmosphere improved as time went on especially the back courtyard area. Then suddenly the prices skyrocketed, Abel is now gone and in our first visit after his departure, we were disappointed. We were greeted by a young woman who acted as if we were doing her a favor by visiting the restaurant. She was not very friendly at all but at the end of the meal she did say thank you for coming "my friends" as if that was to make up for the cold as ice reception that she gave us throughout the entire meal. Very disappointing. We do plan on giving it one more try and hope that the staff shows some sign of the sort of hospitality that Abel showed all of his guests at every visit. I'm a reasonable, patient, understanding, and empathetic diner. Having grown up in a family that owned some very well known eateries --- I, of all people can relate to an off-night. But this.. wow! An entirely different level that fell short in so many ways. First we got water- but I should of sipped cause that was the first, last, and only time someone came around to hydrate us. No one cleaned the table, removed plates or utensils. Aside from the food arriving at our table we had to fend for ourselves, from moving plates, asking for just about everything and walking our check up-- it was a dismal display of operations. A staff armed with bad attitudes seemed clueless on what to do and no one seemed to lead them to the holy land of good direction. Tonight was a dismal display of operating a staff and restaurant. My suggestion is better to close and restructure operations and train staff v losing customers-- which by the look of many unhappy faces you sadly did. One star is for the food. Everything lacked flavor, soup was decent, salad was small and lackluster. There's many better choices for Italian in this city and many more 'just' average places that are much better than this. I ordered food to be picked up at 8pm, went down at 7:50pm, and was immediately worried when I saw my bag of food ready. I asked the manager if I should be worried, and he said 'no, your food was ready a couple minutes ago.' The food was not bagged 'a couple minutes ago': - bread was stale by the time I got back to my room - worse, so was the fritto misto - I asked - and was promised - that the insalata di carciofi will be without heart of palms, yet there were plenty in my salad I suggest not ordering pick up from this restaurant... read more
