I've been here numerous times in the past, but since it's a little out of the way, I hadn't been in years. I've been twice in the last couple months, and I'll continue coming again and again. The first time recently, the ceasar salad was soooooooo garlicky that it literally burned, but that was the only complaint. Last time I went (last Friday), we were a group of 6, and had to wait for about an hour before getting seated. Kind of lame, but they made up for it by having Russian River beers on tap (Pliny the Elder & Blind Pig = good in my book!). Once seated, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The ceasar was much more tolerable. in fact, it was amazing! The ravioli was also delicious as well as a mushroom sauce they had for a special. We also had a great roast beef sandwich with side salad - only one dressing available and a smoked turkey & mozzarella sandwich with pasta. The gal at the register seemed pretty sharp and attentive, but the rest of the staff seemed slow and not terribly interested. Although it wasn't busy, I had to get up and ask where our food was, as it too much too long for a sandwich and salad. Then I had to get up to get our check and boxes for left overs. I didn't much care for this place honestly, but my lady loves it so it gets an extra star for that. You have to order at a counter and then you get a number and they deliver your food and beverages. I waited for what seemed like a very long time for my beer and then getting another one required getting up and walking back to the order counter where you either have to cut the line to order another drink or wait behind everyone who is ordering their dinner. This is really annoying. I had the Vongole....meh. Maybe I'm a bit of an Italian food snob being from Philly and all but it seemed boring to me compared to other vongoles I've had. My lady's pasta was the best thing at a table of four. She got some sort of cream sauce pasta. The desserts were bland and not received well. All in all this was an okay experience but it would not be my choice for dinner if we return to the valley. read more

Best place to have italian food! Not only is everything delicious the prices are resonable and the portios are pretty big! My husband and I usually get a soup or salad and share a half chicken half pasta entrée. The cesar salad is our favorite it's so garlicky it's a little spicy. We have tried these sauces on pasta AOP, Pesto, White Clam & House Citti delicious! The tortellini & raviolini soups are amazing as well! What can I say about dessert I've only had their creme brule & chocolate moose and they are the best! The service is always great! I was in Sonoma and was looking for a place to grab dinner. I did a yelp search and saw this place was close. It was a good call. The place was packed, very busy. The concept is family style seating, seemed strange but some how it works. You order your meal from a menu on the wall, go find a place to sit , which maybe be next to other parties, they bring your meal. The food was great! Very authentic Italian. Delicious. Prices are good as well. This place was on Diner, Drive ins and Dives! Totally must check this place out ! They are known for there rotisserie chicken as well. This place was recommended by someone at one of the wineries we visited. We had some time before our next tasting so stopped in. Right off the bat I was a little annoyed with the white board menu. There just so much to read and it's not very reader friendly. You know when you're handed a menu at a restaurant and it's like 5 pages long? People don't want to spend extended periods of time trying to figure out a menu. So I just went the ravioli Citti and a small calamari salad. The calamari was dry and lacked flavor. The ravioli wasn't too bad but it's more pasta than filling. The sauce was tasty and I ended up taking a slice of my sisters pesto pizza and dipping it in the ravioli sauce. I wasn't impressed but I think it was due to just being aggravated with having to figure out their menu. I wouldn't go back personally. read more

Super casual little cafe located between a number of different wineries on Highway 12. Italian food is perfect for soaking up alcohol. You order at the counter and then they bring you the food, and eventually the check. Lots of hustle and bustle. I had the caprese salad which was okay. I found the balsamic they used to be a bit too sweet. I also think they forget my friend's pizza order - which was ordered 5-15 minutes before everyone else ordered (we arrived in 3 groups) ... but arrived 10 minutes after we'd all finished our food. This place is the REAL DEAL people! Anyone who has been to Kenwood knows that there aren't too many restaurants nearby. If you like Italian ... you'll love this place. It is kind of a hole in the wall in terms of the decor ... if you are from a small town, think of that little pizza joint that had an attached restaurant, and that is what you will find here. There is outdoor seating in a very cheesy patio with Tuscan scenes painted on the corregated metal walls. Inside is a bit better, but the decor is not why you come here. The food is amazing. That jackass Guy Fietti visited this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives ... which almost made me NOT stop here because that guy pretty much would recommend anyplace that serves deep fried meatballs with a sparkler sticking out of it. However, I am glad I didn't listen to my Guy Fietti radar ... because I have had several good meals here. The portions are not huge ... but nor are the prices. Your average plate of pasta here is around $10 - $15. I don't think there is anything on the menu over $17. The food tastes fresh and homemade ... it is clear that someone here trained far above the decor/price level ... this is the type of food I ate in Italy when I was there. My favorite is the pene with vodka sauce (I know ... I can't help it ... I love the American classics). The lasagna with meat sauce is equally good. They also have some more authentic Italian dishes which include pork ... and the pasta is all handmade and fresh. I didn't necessarily get al dente here ... but it is hard to find places that do al dente pasta. Lots of people don't get that concept in the United States and instead say the pasta isn't cooked all the way. So, many places just ditch the concept and make their pasta mushy. I only had a few days in Sonoma, or else I would have stopped here every night. There's really no reason to go anywhere else if you are a fan of GOOD Italian food. The cheesecake is amazing ... seriously, as close to authentic New York cheese cake as you will find in California. (actually tastes cheesy vs. sweet) The handmade biscotti ... and a large selection of local beers and wines. I believe it also is BYOB with a cork fee, in case you want to bring a bottle that you purchased earlier at a vineyard. How cool is that? read more

Still amazing!!! We used to go to the Kenwood location and finally got to eat at the new spot in Santa Rosa. The food was delicious! We had the AOP pasta, smoked chicken on Caesar salad, mushroom Marsala pasta and scampi special. Everything was so flavorful and well made. We tried the spritzers and cannoli and tiramisu as well. Everyone was happy. Family friendly (the kids had a blast) and the excellent service (we were so well taken care of)! Can't wait to go back! read more

I always have the best experience here! Don't expect Olive Garden - this is an authentic and traditional Italian restaurant. The bread is INCREDIBLE and the Citti sauce is to die for. The views from the patio are also super charming and cozy. Our favorite server Maya is always so accommodating and friendly. What happy the classy, fab location in Kenwood? Yes, I know they're on 4th St. now. I recommended it last nite as my main choice for a "great meal". Hmmm! Paper plates and to-go containers were a shock but I knew it would still be a fab meal. The calamari starter was greasy and tasteless and, if it had been $1 opposed to their $18, still awful. No one would eat it. I took one bite if linguini & clams and same. I sent it back. The other two had lasagna because owner(?) said she eats twice a week and so good. Inedible! Sooo salty and pasta was mushy. One friend took both containers home to her dog. And, wine but no Chardonnay! Sheesh! However, they did have done Russian River beer that was fab! The service was out of this world with server Marvin who I'd like to take back to Chicago with me and gave him work for me because he was beyond polite and attentive! The manager Darien went out of his way to make my birthday extra special and comped me a bottle of some amazing sparkling red wine, he really cares about his patrons! Now onto the food, we got the special Pizza of the day and the sauce was out of this world, we also order a pasta carbonara that was better than any pasta we have in Chicago, last we ordered a linguine Alfredo which wasn't on the menu but they special made it for one of my girlfriends! The couple we were with has eaten here before and they led us to this place. We very much enjoyed this place. It is on a highway close to Kenwood. We ate outside but you could here a decent amount of traffic noise. It is kind of a fun atmosphere. You walk in and order from the posted menu and then go to your table where they deliver the food. Most of us had the specials which was homemade pasta. We thought it delicious. One person had a pizza which we tasted and all very much liked it. The service was ok. However, it's worth the wait, and it doesn't take very long. Plus, you can drink wine while you wait! True to its name, the atmosphere is like an Italian cafe. Some of the tables are pushed together so you'll sit side-by-side with other patrons. They have outside seating in the summer on their patio which helps when it's busy. They have very authentic pastas and their sauces are incredible. I had the pork ravioli in cream sauce, Cesar salad, calamari, tiramisu that knocked my socks off, and perfectly brewed dark coffee. Wonderful! We were supposed to go to Italy this summer but instead have obviously decided to stay closer to home due to the pandemic. What a wonderful surprise to have such a delicious and authentic Italian restaurant nearby our vacation house! Their menu is somewhat limited during the pandemic, but they were flexible about turning the marinara into a spicy marinara that was delicious, since the Arrabiata is not being offered. They were kind enough to include some yummy house made focaccia, along with the meal. The only suggestion was perhaps the Caesar salad had a bit too much cheese. Overall however we were quite pleased with our meal and while we are sad to not be able to go to Sicily this year, it was nice to have some delicious Italian food here instead. read more

I really like Cafe Citti for its good food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. That being said, I have a hard time keeping the check reasonable as I always tend to order way more than I should! I almost always order the half rotisserie chicken and pasta meal, and that is enough to completely satisfy me, but it's hard to go here and not also order the Cesar salad, the olives, the fried polenta with mushroom sauce, a drink, and the tiramisu for dessert! There are a couple reasons I docked it a star, however. The first, and biggest reason, is inconsistency. As I mentioned, I usually get the rotisserie chicken and it's usually very good. Sometimes, however, it seems as if they either cooked it too long or left it sitting too long. It's come out super dry and unappetizing. The tiramisu also seems to have good days and bad. The last time I went there it was overly mushy and pretty much collapsed on the plate (I will say that it still tasted great, however). The other factor contributing to a lack of a star is the building itself. It's basically a shack with an uneven/sloped floor that makes the tables rock like crazy. I would be out here a lot more often if it were closer to town, but even so, it's well worth the drive. read more

Drove out here after a day spent hiking through Muir Woods. The restaurant itself is small and cozy with plenty of seating inside or outdoors. They don't take any reservations unless you have a group of 8. They have a couple parking spots right in front of the restaurant, behind the restaurant and if you can't find any spots there is a little street on the side where you can park. We came here on a Friday around 6:30-7 pm. It was easy to order and find a spot to sit. The dishes here are super authentic and the fresh pasta is unlike any I've had in the past. read more

The prepared chickens are the best thing I have ever seen in a restaurant. Period. The pasta is expertly made, beautifully cooked. There is NEVER oily residue from the sauce. I came here for a friends bday dinner and it was a small mom and pop restaurant which made amazing Italian food. I ended up ordering the homemade ravioli and the caesar salad. Tip: apparently they will do half orders of the Caesar salad and I wish I had known before I ordered. I didn't see it listed on the menu granted I could have just missed it. Anyways, service here was pretty good considering I was part of a group of 12 people. The homemade ravioli was absolutely delicious though, I would come back here just for the ravioli. Stopped by for spur of the moment lunch after hiking nearby Sonoma Valley Regional Park (my favorite). This is my second visit. The first was many years ago and though I don't recall what I ordered, my friend's Lasagna was the best I've ever eaten. This time I ordered a glass of Tollo 2015 Sangiovese only $6!! It came served Italian style in a tumbler filled to the brim. Because of other reviews I ordered the Caesar Salad which was OK for me. Though it appeared to be adequately dressed I found it a bit dry. Again excellent price $7.50. Next I had the Crispy Polenta with the Marinara Sauce. Both were good but Sauce was placed on top of the Polenta ruining the crispy crust. Next time I would ask for the sauce to be ladled onto the plate and the Polenta placed on top. Noisy and packed. But I got a parking space right in front, no lines though it was 1:30 on a Saturday. The table open was a "perfect for two" one in front of the window. Wish they had Eggplant Parmesan which I can never find. But will be back. Probably try the lasagna next. BTW, grab your table when you come in.
