French toast bites with peanut butter, Ovaltine and butter

Run, don't walk! Also put yourself in queue beforehand or join the line before they open. The hype is real! This is a cute Hong Kong style cafe with LOTS on the menu. We arrived a little before they opened on a Thursday morning and there was already a line. The service is mighty fast, and the place for a random weekday stayed busy. We definitely over ordered and had leftovers. The menu was very long and so many yummy options but we opted to get their breakfast menu options. The set we got was a truffle omelette on toast, with beef soup. We also got a pineapple bun and french toast bites to share. We also added the option of a hot Hong Kong style tea. Highly recommend everything! You can tell from the photos - no additions explanation needed. Will definitely be back!

One of my favourite HK style cafes. They actually have a lot of unique dishes here and a pretty extensive menu. I tried their signature hainanese chicken rice and it was pretty delicious. The chicken was super silky and tender and the trio of sauces that came with it was fantastic. My dad ordered the stir fried beef macaroni. That was a bit of a miss for me but he liked it. They were pretty heavy handed with the soy sauce. We also had the fried corn with salted duck yolk. Will definitely order this again. The sauce was really well balanced and the whole thing was very flavourful. Staff were efficient but nice. The restaurant is small so long wait times. However, there is a yelp waitlist you can join.

Delicious food that is priced at a good value. Variety of menu isn't too big but enough to have something for everyone. Seating is limited so highly recommend to check in on the Yelp waitlist beforehand. Once you get the notification that your table is ready, bypass the line and tell the kind servers you got a message and once your table is cleaned up you can sit. The service is pretty good for a HK cafe. Despite the limited seating I don't feel cramped when I'm eating and overall restaurant is clean and can accommodate for larger groups by combining tables.

My second time visiting here! Ordered 3 dishes to share between 2 people and the portion sizes are big enough that we had to bring most of the fried rice home because we were so full! Every dish was perfect. The chicken was very juicy, and not dry at all. The pork chop was juicy as well, worth the extra price. Service was attentive and kind. Our waiter offered us more ginger sauce to go with our chicken rice dish. Interior is designed like a HK cafe. Tables are cleaned and wiped down with disinfectant after every guest. Love this restaurant and will keep visiting!!

Wow what a busy restaurant!. We arrived on the weekend. Seems like everyone decided to eat out or shop the weekend. We added our place in the Yelp queue. And huh? 1 hour 45 mins...normally we'd take a pass, but we decided we could just walk around the mall, and hang out a bit. Well just turns out we got our notice of our place in queue with my phone not making a usual chirp. But when I rushed over, the server said we were good and sat us at the first available booth. It was totally packed at 2Pm, we wanted to have the special afternoon set menus bc it reminds me of Hong Kong. The food was served relatively quick. I like how a drink comes with the dishes and it was a slice of memories for me (especially red bean milk). The fried chicken leg was a chicken leg quarter split - absolutely delicious and an indulgence. Super crispy and a highlight in presentation! The French toast was oozy with salted egg flavor and sweetness of condensed milk. The beef satay had very savory tones and the truffled soft scrambled eggs were done excellently. It's relatively small dining room with enough for probably 40 diners in total. Booths line the perimeter and tables in the middle. So was it worth the wait? I'd say so, but I'll probably try a non-weekend next time.

This place is always packed. If you want to be seated around lunch time, you'd need to join their wait list just before 11 am or else any time after 11 will most likely over an hour wait. Tried their new Dubai chocolate French toast cubes and it was delicious. Very filling but decadent. Generous amount of crispy pistachio bits and chocolate drizzled around a perfectly fried French toast cubes. Their Bo lo bun fried chicken sandwich was humongous as well. Great piece of fried chicken with the right amount of sauce and tenderness. The bo lo bun itself is also very crusty. My go to dish from this place is their satay instant noodles in a clay pot with a ovaltine crunch drink.

The wait time is worth it!! We've been wanting to try this place for a long time but the waitlist is always so long. We finally were able to get a seat by joining the waitlist on Yelp about 45-60 mins ahead of time. Try having multiple people join the waitlist at different times in case your turn is up and you're not ready for your table yet. This place is hard to come with a bigger party, but doable. We were a table of 6 and they accommodated us in a booth plus added a table and extra chairs so we could all sit together. Everything our party got was so good. The chicken an avocado pineapple bun was insane. A must try. The crunchy toast with peanut butter and condensed milk is also a classic, which we of course got. The salted egg York corn was good, but we did wish the seasoning was more spread around to get the flavour all over. So many different options to choose from. Must come back to try different dishes. There's a reason why this place is packed. Great food and super reasonable prices!

Foie gras with egg and truffle in a pineapple bun - $11.95

We got here about 5 minutes before opening on a Saturday morning. The restaurant seats about 41 people. Our order was taken at 10:05am and our food started to come out within 15 minutes. My friend ordered the Meal set C - $10.95 and I ordered the foie gras with egg and truffle in a pineapple bun - $11.95 and a salted egg yolk French toast - $9.95 and added a HK milk tea for $1.25 more. My friend said his soup was bland and they gave a lot of rice noodles. I thought it was an affordable option considering the amount of food you get but it's not something I'd order. I thoroughly enjoyed my pineapple bun with truffle, egg and foie gras. It had a decent amount of truffle flavor and the egg was runny. The only issue I had with it is that the top part of the bun was a bit stale. You definitely would want to use a fork and a knife to eat this. The salted egg yolk French toast was such a treat. A perfect amount of salted egg yolk goodness awaits as you cut into the toast. It's very rich and decadent. Don't count your calories here. Pay at the counter.

NOTE: If you do decide to come, I HIGHLY recommend joining the waitlist powered by Yelp. You can find it on Google. This has to be one of the most popular HK style restaurants in the GTA. we joined the waitlist at 12:30pm on a Saturday and got our table at 2:30pm. We came in and got seated right away. The ambiance was quite cool with unique HK style art hanging on the walls. We got a window seat and it was very comfortable and spacious. We ordered the Bake pork chop rice, Clay Pot Beef Instant noodle, Hainanese chicken rice, and their Satay Squid Tentacles with Fish Balls. It came with 3 hot drinks and we got all HK style milk teas. The service was quite normal but good for a Chinese restaurant. The Bake pork chop rice was delicious and the pork was really tender. My only issue is with the portion sizes. the dish itself is very shallow. Same with the clay pot instant noodle, there was only a couple pieces of beef. The Satay Squid and Fish balls was tasty but way too salty. The fish ball had a interesting chewy texture instead of a "QQ" texture. I've never had fish balls with this kind of texture but I actually don't mind it at all. I had to drink like 2 bottles of water on the drive home. The only thing I thought was really good was the Hainanese chicken rice and their milk teas. the chicken rice was flavorful and oily (in a good way) and the chicken itself was very tender, juicy and delicious. The milk tea's had a very strong tea flavor which is how I prefer my HK style milk teas and is one of the better ones in the city. Overall: The food is honestly not bad at all. The main issue is with the portion sizes. If you don't eat a lot, then it's probably fine. I would skip the Satay squid and Fish balls. The Hainanese chicken rice and their milk teas are definitely really good though. But is it worth the wait ? Absolutely NOT. Although, I will probably come back and try a few other dishes that I wanted to try. I would rate it a 3.5/5 Stars

    Samantha P.

One of the best Hainan chicken spots in Toronto. The chicken is juicy and not dry. The oil rice tastes great, and there are three sauces to mix and match: sweet soy sauce, hot sauce, and scallion oil. The signature milk tea is very good and comes in a cute vintage bottle with their logo. It has strong caffeine. It's an extra $2 to swap it into the combo. The lineups get long, so it's best to join the Yelp virtual waitlist 30 minutes to 1 hour before you plan to arrive. Highly recommend!

Combo D: black truffle egg on toast
    Gordon C.

Worth the wait! First, be sure to put yourself on the Yelp waiting list and check-in on the tablet when you arrive. They don't call out names one by one in a strict order, but instead notify batches of customers that tables are ready, and it's first-come first-served within each batch. Once you've braved the long wait, you are seated elbow-to-elbow in this tiny and always-packed restaurant. But you're here for the awesome food: the hainan chicken rice is a star, with a very generous portion of chicken (half a chicken?), delicious rice and accompanying sauces. It sells out quickly so don't expect it to be still available at dinner time. Our other favourite is the BLB with foie gras and black truffle egg (#101, $12), which we call the "umami bomb"... the pairing of the crunchy BLB, and rich and creamy egg/foie gras is awesome! Each meal comes with a free drink, and their HK-style milk tea is great, as are their premium drinks available with a slight upgrade fee.

    Fried Chicken Pineapple Bun
    Ryan C.

Always a long line up but finally got a chance to try. Decided to get the Fried Chicken Pineapple Bun as I wanted to get something more unique after waiting for so long. It was like a deluxe club sandwich in a pineapple bun. Definitely worth trying but probably will only order if I'm really hungry. Restaurant is family and kid-friendly with lots of options on the menu. Make sure you join the waitlist at least 2 hrs in advance of when you want to eat.... A star taken off due to the long wait time for a HK CCT.

Fried chicken & avocado pineapple bun burger
    Carol Y.

Overall rating: 4.5/5 I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit this iconic HK cafe. I happened to be in the area and came on a day & time when there wasn't a ridiculous line/wait (which is rare, let me tell you). I've heard so many rave reviews, so I had high expectations going in for the food! This spot is 100% as good as people claim. Of course, I had to get the HK milk tea - a true test of their authenticity. Strong tannins, rich tan colour, and the right balance of creamy evaporated milk. I also tried one of their pineapple bun burgers (fried chicken & avocado), which is a speciality of this cafe. I haven't seen this offered elsewhere. The burger was incredible, and it even made the table beside us go "Wow!" A generous portion of fried chicken that was fried to perfection with ketchup and mayo. Though I will say that there was minimal avocado compared to what I expected (just a light spread on the burger bun instead of sliced avocado). The two factors that knock down my rating score are 1) finding parking can be awful, and 2) the wait time can get ridiculous (like a 1-2 hour wait).

I am never the hop-on-the-bandwagon trendsetter. Good Catch Cafe and Bar has been in downtown Markham for a few years. I decided to come here for an early dinner after work on Wednesday for the first time. This eatery is a part of The Origin, the mall that includes a Cineplex, Goodlife Fitness, Chatime, and more. This eatery has its entrance facing Enterprise Boulevard. When you're parked at the parking lot across from it, it gives you the impression that the entrance is by the patio. Maybe you can enter and exit this side door when it's summertime. I see a lot of references in a number of Yelp reviews here to this eatery being Good Catch Boil. I remember when it was more of a seafood place when it first opened for business. It then meandered into a Hong Kong-style eatery, which is the case today. I'm guessing that the boil trend wasn't as popular over time. I walked in. I looked at a screen to check in. It was probably 4 pm and it wasn't terribly busy. I passed. A female server came over and asked if I was dining as a party of one. I nodded. She pointed me to a booth. I was pleased and sat myself down. It was comfy. It's kind of like a sports bar, but it's casual. I caught up with the Blue Jays loss against the Yankees the night before. By the end of my dining experience, this restaurant had good music playing that made dining here more upbeat. She came over with a bunch of menus. She also had a printed QR code. I could either order online or wave at any staff member to place my order. Nice! There are daily specials. You get a free drink with your order if you drop by between certain afternoon hours. I decided to order through the online menu and got these items: - Iced lemon Ribena - Curry fish balls (15) - Wonton noodle soup Service was wonderful. The female server got me water and my iced lemon Ribena. I love the latter drink so much. It was excellent. It had the perfect amount of lemon with Ribena, all iced. The water was also great. It was cold despite not having any ice cubes in it. My curry fish balls came out first. The curry smelled so good. I loved each curry ball that I stabbed with a skewer and dunked into the curry sauce. Each fish ball was bouncy and yummy. The sauce had a slight spicy kick that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd get them again. A male server came over with my bowl of wonton noodle soup. I had maybe ten different noodle options to choose from, from ramen, to udon. I choose thin noodles. If you want a noodle pull, you'll easily get it here. The noodles were delicious, long, and so good. They weren't clumpy. Perfect! I was surprised that I got broccoli. I ended up submerging the florets in the broth. They started off on the crunchier side. They softened up nicely and I enjoyed how healthy eating each floret made me feel. I am used to getting bok choy or no veggies with wonton noodle soup. It was nice that I got something different. The wontons were excellent. They had shrimp in them, which I am thinking that the seafood part of this business is still there. I loved the green onions in this bowl of deliciousness. The broth was perfect. It wasn't overly salty. I could taste sesame oil that was aded to it. I paid at the table. The female server asked if I was paying by cash or card. I rarely have the former on me, so it was my credit card. I tipped and tapped, and thanked her for everything. Staff are so nice here. I'd come back just for the service alone. The food and drink were amazing, so I'm definitely a fan who wants to return for more good eats and drinks. I used the washroom before leaving this eatery. When you walk into this restaurant, the washrooms are straight ahead, followed by a right turn. It was cool seeing bowls of noodles being made by kitchen staffers as I passed by to get to the washroom. The women's washroom was spacious and clean. No complaints. I'm so glad that I finally dropped by this eatery. At least three restaurants have closed recently at The Origin. I'm glad that this one is still thriving. I'd love to grab a bite to eat after a movie or simply come here to enjoy good Hong Kong-style dishes. (214)

I'm a big fan of HK-style French toast, and this one did not disappoint. The syrup wasn't overly sweet, and the black sesame flavor came through nicely. Their menu is huge and has a wide variety of dishes and plenty of Hong Kong comfort food classics to choose from. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for sharing dishes with friends or family. I'd definitely come back to try more items on their menu, though it's a bit inconvenient to get to without a car.

I haven't been to Pheonix Restaurant in a very long time. The last time I went was when they still…read morehad a store at Bridletowne in Scarborough. So I was excited to try their menu. Ambiance - 4/5: a medium sized place with lots of seats and tables. It's in a plaza with a medical building. The parking spots are designed to be slanted so if you're not used to it, it is a little weird to park. Service - 4/5: we were seated quickly. The menu was extensive so it took awhile for us to decide. They checked up on us a few times. And cleared the table at the end. Food - 4/5: we ordered 3 combo sets - baked Japanese chicken steak on rice, AAA steak with onion paste in rice bowl - comes with a sunnyside up egg, pad thai, lemon tea and cold milk tea. We shared all 3 dishes. The pad thai was surprisingly spicy but it was good. The other 2 dishes is good as well. I just find both dishes to be on the sweeter end. I really enjoyed the milk tea. It was smooth and perfectly balanced. Overall: 4/5 - I would come back with friends. I don't mind trying other options on their menu
