Terrible Experience - Rude, Overpriced, awful coffee, Aggressive, and Completely Unprofessional I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a business here. First of all, the coffee had absolutely no aroma or flavor -- it was bland and flat. When I politely asked the owner about the coffee, he immediately became angry, saying it was made with "fresh beans" and exploded at me for criticizing his product. Shortly after, his wife came out and asked me what I thought about the coffee. I told her honestly that I couldn't detect any flavor or aroma -- and she didn't understand at all. She said it has coffee smell! Of course coffee has a coffee smell!! They charged $7.50 for a tiny single scoop of ice cream in a cup, and there were no prices listed anywhere. When I tried to mention I hadn't received A RECEIPT, she wouldn't even let me speak. When I tried to end the conversation since she didn't listen to me, she became even more aggressive, shouting at me irrationally. She was yelling about how they're from Italy and Americans don't understand coffee at all. Then the owner came back out and told me to "get the f*** out," using aggressive language and tone in front of my young daughter, who was so terrified she started crying. How could someone use such violent language in front of a child? He kept yelling and yelling in madness!! My daughter was so shaken and started crying uncontrollably. I had to wait for her to calm down before we could even leave. This went beyond rudeness -- it was borderline violent behavior. I genuinely considered calling the police because I felt unsafe. After we left, several bystanders came up to check on us and comfort my daughter, which I appreciated deeply. If they can't handle any feedback about their food or drinks, they shouldn't be running a business. They also have two open doors, but it's unclear which one leads to the ordering line. On top of that, the prices are way too high. My partner and I ordered three things, and we were shocked at how expensive it was. The person taking our order recommended a freshly made pastry, so we went for it. This was written in 2014 our first visit. Guess I didn't post it! 13 years later it's our favorite place to visit when we come to Solvang. Still delicious, still clean and the ambiance is great and Sam and his staff have only gotten better and better. How is that possible!?! It's still our first stop we make. Excellent, we came across this beauty in search for fresh juice yesterday evening after 6:00 pm. We were very happy to find it open since everything around here in Solvang starts closing at 5:00 on weekdays. My tummy was out of sorts from an earlier brunch that wasn't within our regular eating preparation. I was recommended by a patron in the shop to have a ginger shot, which of course I agreed with since nothing soothes the tummy like fresh organic ginger. It warmed my insides and did the job; my hubby ordered the acai fruit bowl which we shared and it calmed the spiciness of the ginger. Sam is the owner and was fantastic so fantastic we came back today. I had the kale juice (totally has a cute name I just forgot it) and my hubs the bulletproof coffee and a shot of ginger (he was impressed with how well it worked for me). Again they exceeded what we expected. The fruits and veggies are fresh and organic. We watched Sam buy them weds from the farmers market. Today Javier served us and he was amazingly sweet and professional too (eye candy) did I just say that!?! Our next trips and going forward we will make it a point to stop here. We went for the Vegan Trap panini with roasted zucchini, eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, and hummus. There's a pretty decent selection of everything from smoothies to baklava, so everyone should be able to find something that's their taste. There's limited indoor seating but outdoor seating in the Square is available. It might take a bit of time to get your food brought to you, but you can surely bet it will be delicious. They also have a decent number of celebrity photos on the wall, so maybe if you're lucky, you'll be able to get an Arnold Schwarzenegger ice cream sighting while you're there! read more

EXTREMELY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING. I should have read the previous reviews--clearly they know nothing about customer service. Just because you've been in business doesn't mean you know how to keep them. Two men were talking amongst themselves I'm assuming the chef and the owner, dropped whatever their conversation was about and just stared. No hello. Told him it was our first time--with no response on his end and could care less because he'd probably already seen way too many tourists in the area. We inquired about their vegan Mediterranean panini. It is my job to ask the ingredients and any allergens to make sure there was no dairy etc. esp being a restaurant that was not completely vegan for any cross contamination to make sure. Said it in the most sweetest possible way we don't eat meat nor dairy. The guy immediately looked offended and pointed at the sign and said "we'll it's vegan!" Had the rudest look on his face as if to say we were calling him a liar. We were just asking--nicely. Didn't even explain what was in it just a flat out "it says vegan!" as what a normal business owner would to welcome their guests--their response was not the smartest move to keep their business afloat. We were starving so just decided to get one meal instead of giving them anymore money. He tried to upsell and pointed at their vegan baklava and saying it's vegan. We asked how much and said "$20!" For a small box of baklava?! Over my dead body. Did they even want to make a sale? As if they didn't even want to sell the darn thing I laughed in my head because this guy was clearly trying to sell us the "tourist price" and tried to overcharge us. No one in their right mind will pay for a few pieces in a small box for $20, that was just downright wrong. He was rude taking our order the entire time...as I stood there and just looked at him. He looked back at me and gave me this stare and I could kind of tell what he was thinking. Perhaps he doesn't know how to deal with customers. When we got our food, we went back inside to ask what the white sauce was in the vegan Mediterranean panini because we honestly thought it had dairy--and this guy was so defensive and rude saying "it's vegan". No crap, then explain to us what the heck is in it. He listed down what was in the sauce after all that it was just tiring and exhausting even having to keep asking. I began to question what was his problem and now I know why. This guy is so angry at the world and discriminatory against people walking into his establishment. I started to wonder if it were our race or age--and we're not young. Clearly this guy hates himself and unhappy with his life. I honestly feel sad for him and I hope he gets the help he needs. Upon reading all the reviews, it was not worth even giving them a shot but we regretfully did--would have rather have our business to someone else that cared. Why would anyone want to support their business after being extremely rude? He's probably had bad experiences that he was projecting his anger towards everyone to ruin his own business. Shame on him. My dog and I stopped by Cafe Dolce on a Monday morning around 8:30am. The place wasn't busy at all, so I took my time scanning the menu and display of desserts. The cafe was quite an interesting place with an identity crisis going on. Clearly Mediterranean desserts were their thing, but you can get ice cream, protein shakes, smoothies, shaved ice, and even boba. I suppose you could say it was just a catch all for all things sweet. You can also get American-style sandwiches and breakfast items too, so it's basically a one stop shop for a variety of things. I simply wanted a flavored iced coffee, so I asked for a coffee toffee with nonfat milk. I asked the server if they had nonfat, and she kept saying "2." I finally asked her what she meant by "2," and she pulled out the 2% milk. Best baklava I've ever had! They are packed full of nuts, easily 3x what one would normally get elsewhere. The filo dough is light and fluffy. The baklava is also not overly smothered in honey so one can enjoy the ingredients. They have a broad variety. There are pistachio, cashew, and walnut as well as a soft walnut, dates and pistachio and a rolled one with crushed pistachio. So good it was hard to decide which is my favorite so we just had to go back and bring home 2 dozen before we left. The Turkish coffee perfectly complements the baklava. Found this place on yelp while I was looking for a brunch spot in Solvang. I LOVE avocado toast and this place has the best avocado toast I've ever tried! I think they infuse lemon or lime juice with the mashed avocado. It also has some sprouts, sliced radishes, cherry tomatoes, sea salt, and cracked black pepper. It's really a treat! I also had turkish coffee which I didn't care for. It tasted really grainy. But the next day, I came back and ordered a Mexican cocoa latte. That was creamy and delicious. The outdoor eating area is also really cute and relaxing. They have a grassy area with an awning, tables, and benches. It's a perfect breakfast/brunch spot! They have a huge menu and they also serve smoothies, shakes, sandwiches, acai bowls, and gelato. My husband got the Gibraltar toast 2 days in a row. It's toast with almond butter, banana slices, black chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey. I tried his too and it's amazing! You can't go wrong with either toast.
