I've eaten here many times, and my kid's favorite is the chicken strips with fries and the Alfredo chicken with garlic bread and a side of chicken soup. The cafe duo with salad and soup is meant to be a light and healthy lunch, so if anyone expected more, they should have asked about the portions. The sandwiches with chips and pickles pack more of a punch than the salad and soup. The dishes here are healthy and adequate in size, and the restaurant is clean and well arranged: many tables, some bench areas, and lots of windows. Dishes are over $8.00 or more. The only negative count =one female cashier kept talking to another guy behind the counter, so it was irritating to see her ignore me as a customer because there wasn't a line, as I was the only one waiting for her to serve me. read more

I stopped here for lunch with a friend. I have been here before so I am going to compare to this experience with previous ones. 5/5 Service. Very pleasant and professional cashiers. Even though the place was bustling, there was a sense of calm among the employees. 4/5 Taste. I ordered a trio which consisted of a chicken salad sandwich, side salad, and cup of potato soup. After customizing my salad off of the topping bar, it really hit the spot even though very small. The main reason I'm giving a 4 here is because of the beverage. The sweet tea was actually unsweetened tea. No bueno for me. So I had to change it for lemonade. 3/5 Value. I don't feel this place really offers a good deal for the price. My trio was $8.99 and the drink was another $3.00. With tax, I paid over $12 for lunch and the portions I had today were rather small. I've had other menu items that were more filling such as the burgers and pastas. In my opinion, the trio just isn't worth it. read more

Attempted to "customize" the sandwich, however there were items that could be removed, but no place to "add" items to sandwich. I had to call the restaurant to request they add bacon to the sandwich. Would have asked for asked for extra mayo, but decided to use what I had in frig. My dining partner was disappointed with quality of shrimp salad; said seem to be not as good as pre-pandemic. I got spring salad side with sandwich. CE skimped on tomatoes; instead of two whole grape tomatoes, salad only had one tomato cut in half. Don't think I'll place another pick up order. We recently started using the new and improved Cafe Express for our firm (River Oaks location) and the food has been spot on, much better than preCOVID. So Wednesday my husband and I stopped at the Meyerland location for dinner. It was not good at all. I had the pesto chicken with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes and it was stone cold. I began with the Chicken Alfredo pasta, after two bites, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it. The dish was completely flavor-less. I was able to exchange the entree for a club sandwich, which I thought would be impossible to mess up. However, the club sandwich was loaded with mayo. The bread of my sandwich was extremely soggy. Unfortunately, the low stars are nothing to do with COVID. A few thing but the most important being you have yet again messed with the same meal my fiance has bought here for 14 years. First you removed it from the menu and lost us for a few years and now the 4 cheese pasta no longer has the soft ball of cheese (which makes it four cheese) AT THIS LOCATION. If you are going to change a menu item then you need to change the name on the item!! The store at memorial HAS That cheese or did last time we had lunch there. We usually order the steaks for takeout for dinner. I've tried their brunch, lunch, and dinner and all of the items on the menu I orddered are always so delish! This morning my husband and I ordered the Cafe Classic Combo. Which comes with your choice of Belgian waffle or oatmeal pancake, two eggs, and sausage or bacon. I'm ever so upset with the new management. I've always relied on Cafe Express to give me just what I need in a healthy way. Not any more. First of all, the menu has changed radically. Second, I order the chicken pasta pesto salad and found that it is smaller and mostly lettuce. I had to search for the pastas and other ingredients, and forget about the pine nuts; they're so small and old you can't pick them up in your fork. Great staff at this location. Super friendly staff, clean bathrooms, yummy food and drinks. Also if you need to kill an hour or so and get some work done there's wifi (that kind of work). A friend and I stopped by here at 8pm on a weeknight for a quick bite while out shopping in Meyerland. They weren't busy so we sat at the bar to order and have a drink while waiting...and waited...and waited. The girl behind the bar was oblivious to our empty glasses and casual glances to get her attention. Good waitstaff check on you constantly, even if only with a glance. She didn't even look up at once for 10 minutes. We finally had to yell out and call her. She refilled the galsses and walked off like we were bothering her. She did bring the food out promptly but then disappeared again. Once we were done, she and two other employees began a very loud, very inappropriate conversation (inapprorpriate not only for a food establishment, but also for their age!). Anyways, my gf loves their chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries and is always raving about it. Since I'm supposed to be the food expert and had never had a go at this meal I decided to give in and take her recommendation. She got her usual and I got the club with sweet potato fries. Her chicken salad sandwich was good, but my club was huge. It's cut into 4 giant pieces. I'm a big portion eater and must say this meal had me stuffed. Today we went to Cafe Express for lunch. It's always a tough decision because there's a Madeline's nearby, but I love the Torinesi breadsticks and condiments bar. Unfortunately they don't have freshly shredded Parmesan anymore at the self serve bar. When the server brought my food I asked her for some and she seemed puzzled. So I asked again. She never brought it. I was also disappointed they were out of regular Pepsi. When they're out of Pepsi I go for Dr Pepper. That was also out. The Turkey Swiss, Potato soup, Max & Cheese, Caesar Salad and Spring Mix were delicious as always. My biggest disappointment was that they don't have Bread Pudding anymore. The cashier said they stopped serving it 3 months ago, but they stopped during Covid and never brought it back. That's a deal killer for me. I had the lemonade and it was very good...not too sweet. Overall, it was a pretty somber atmosphere. Hopefully next time it will be better. There's no place like Cafe Express. I may just go to a different location. Maybe they are just having trouble getting a hold of certain items. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

I have been coming to this Cafe Express for several years now. This place is always consistent. This being the Meyerland location, the crowd is usually more conservative and family oriented. The food is always really fresh and higher quality in my opinion. It matches the price for sure. Extra bonus for the pickle/condiment bar they bring out at lunch. read more

We've eaten here many times in the past but it's been a long while since our last visit. This location is located on the end of a large strip mall so parking spaces are plenty. Inside, it's a big space with dining areas spread out in separate divisions. In the center, they have their round condiments bar where you get utensils, condiments, etc.. My husband ordered his usual - the roasted half chicken. I opted for a classic turkey club and had them add in some avocado for an extra charge. It was definitely worth it. The avocado just added more yumminess to the turkey club. The creamy Parmesan dressing really pulled that club sandwich together in taste. It was so delicious! I also had ordered a cup of their potato soup. It was good, but not the absolute best I've ever had. I would order it again the next time though. They have a lot to choose from in the beverage station. Many different types of teas and the Stubborn brand of craft sodas along with coffees. I opted for a sweet tea. It was sweet but not too sweet which made it perfect for me. I ended up getting a refill before I left so I could drink more on the way home. I hardly ever do that so that alone tells you that it's really good. The food is great but I feel like the establishment itself is starting to look a bit run-down. The women's bathroom was small with only two stalls and one stall was just fitted in weird. One soap dispenser had either fallen off or was ripped out of the wall. You can see where it was attached to the wall because nothing has been done to fix it cosmetically (the wall part I mean). They did have one soap dispenser laying on the counter though so that you still had access to two soap dispensers that work for the two sinks. It makes it look like this location has seen better days and there doesn't seem to be a makeover in sight. Even the lighting inside the dining area seemed a little dark. But the food was good, so we'll still come back when we're in the area. read more

Easy parking and friendly cashiers to start with. It took 15 minutes to get our food. The coffee was good but warm, I don't really know what was up with the coffee machine. I had the new menu item, the lobster roll with fries which cost $15.99! I love Main Ly's lobster rolls so I wanted to compare. It was way over priced but good. Not as good as Main Ly lobster rolls. I like it but I don't think I would buy it again, it's not worth $15.99. Their prices went up I noticed. My husband loved his cheeseburger. We will be back. read more

I am pretty picky about grilled chicken and the cook/chef in here is like a freaking grill master. I usually get the Spanish Chicken Romesco (or something) and in this location at least it's perfectly grilled and obviously fresh. That's not the same for the Uptown Park location. Pet peeves about the place has to be the seating. There is just not enough of it during lunch so often times i have to wait for one of the Bellaire/Meyerland housewives to leave and jump and mark the table as mine. Parking is like a death march too but I don't think it's their fault. read more

MEH, I've experienced better! That really does describe it. It's a small cafe that really doesn't do anything special. Their menu features your typical American diner feel but the service is more like a large cafeteria. Whether you get toast, bacon, eggs, or pancakes, it comes out like a cafeteria / diner, but there is no server there to see how you're doing. Most everything is sell serve. The bacon was thick and not quite cooked right. It wasn't raw, but it was slightly overcooked. The toast was unappetizing. It came with a small package of fruit that didn't look too fresh. The eggs were definitely powdered and didn't taste great. I'd give their breakfast 2 generous stars out of 5. I had a roast beef sandwich that was about average. The roast beef isn't seasoned with much and there's nothing special about it that you wouldn't be able to buy some at a local grocery store and make a sandwich yourself. The fries are average. I'd give the sandwich 3 stars out of 5. I guess the whole reason they're there is convenience. There are a whole lot of tables there and really high ceilings but not enough space between tables to give you privacy. I wouldn't want to bring a lot of people here for a hangout. It's too cramped. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 5 if I could but it certainly doesn't deserve 3 stars. read more

I have gone to Cafe Express for several years, however, I have usually gone to the Town and Country location. My boyfriend and I were in the area, and on a whim decided to go to the nearest Cafe Express location, which was this one. We went around lunch time, but luckily the restaurant was not super crowded. It was a really hot day, so it was nice to be able to enter a cold restaurant and be able to order and find a table right away. For our entrees, I ordered the grilled chicken with pesto (I substituted the vegetables for fries and also got mashed potatoes), and my boyfriend ordered grilled chicken sandwich with fries. For our drinks, we got iced teas (they have several to pick from, which is nice, and also the usual fountain drinks.) While we waited for our food, we got some olives and garlic that you can get from their condiment table. Our food did not take long to come out. Once our food was ready, from a first glance, I was honestly, disappointed. The portions were not as large as I was expecting them to be for the price. Taste-wise, it was OK; the chicken on my boyfriend's sandwich was REALLY dry and overcooked, and our fries were not hot and just average. I usually like Cafe Express, but this was not the most memorable experience, unfortunately. read more

I don't understand what happened. Did I enter the twilight zone? I haven't been to cafe express in years but I was in the area and suddenly had a caving for the honey mustard and the hummus so in I go only to be highly disappointed and slightly confused. What I used to know as amazing hummus and crack-like honey mustard with chicken strips is now a paste that tastes like greasy sand, fast food chain looking chicken strips with a (white?) extremely runny and sweet honey mustard. The soda fountain was mostly seltzer water and everyone looked slightly disappointed. My daughter seemed to enjoy the pasta shells with marinara though there was so little sauce I had to keep stirring so the shells wouldn't dry out and the fruit was tasty. . Im working in the area for a week & wanted soup, salad/sandwich. So I walk in, stand in line(1 min) & there were 2 ladies bagging brownies that never acknowledged me standing there. So I waited another 30 seconds then someone comes from the back to take my order. Ordered my food, sat down, received my food(salad) & it was delicious. Of course they never give enough dressing so I asked for more & was told it would be $.99. I just spent $12 on a salad only to pay $.99 for one cup of dressing to which the cup was about 1oz. So if you're gonna eat a salad, bring your dressing. Also had a sandwich & soup the next day which was also great. Going again tomorrow to try something else. read more
