A Seattle classic, with good reason! One of the few fully vegetarian restaurants in town (which is so weird, but here we are), Cafe Flora always has delicious and creative food. The ambiance is also wonderful (I love the atrium!) and service is reliably good. I always try to save room for their wonderful desserts and am especially a sucker for their vegan cake! Now that they accept dinner reservations, I can finally justify trekking over from Ballard. I haven't attempted brunch in years as it gets quite crowded so just arrive with patience and perhaps a snack if you are going that route. As someone who was vegetarian for six years and now has a pretty high bar for which vegetarian spots I'll go to, I'd definitely come back here. Right when you walk in, the aesthetics catch your eye and you immediately feel at peace and like you're in for a good time. There was a bit of a wait (40 minutes), but we didn't mind. We just browsed the menu and chatted. I got the Southern Platter with the rosemary biscuits (the buttermilk ones are bigger, FYI), and it was a flavor explosion. We arrived here around lunchtime on a Saturday as a group of 5 and did not have to wait for a table. We were seated inside, but we had the choice of sitting outside. The inside is very cute, with lots of windows and plants. The service was attentive and great. I had the rhubarb pancakes and an oat milk matcha latte. They were delicious! Well, the second time is a charm. The food was tremendous, one of the best vegetarian meals I can remember. Based on this visit we will try to visit on every future trip to Seattle. For appetizers we had the gougeres ( very light cheese puffs) and the kale artichoke dip with grilled sourdough. Both were tremendous and a great start to the meal. The main courses we shared were the Pea Raviolis, a really surprising polenta dish, and the eggplant dish. All were outstanding. Even the polenta which I am not normally fond of. The polenta plate included cherries, blue cheese, green beans, pesto, a balsamic reduction...and the polenta. I could not resist seeing how this seemingly random collection of ingredients could work together. Very well it turns out. Kudos to the chef who came up with this dish. I've been going to Cafe Flora for more than a decade, and still love its food. However, the level of service has been steadily declining. The last few times I've visited service has been very slow, but at least pleasant. My last visit was a different story. I was with a party of four. The waitress started by routinely, and rudely, interrupting our conversations. After she took our order, the staff began bringing out entrees one at a time, rather than serving the whole table at once. Two came relatively quickly; it was a 10-minute wait for the third; and mine did not come for another 20-25 minutes--more than half an hour after the first of our party was served, and after everyone else at the table was done eating. It was brought in a to-go bag, so I had to eat out of plastic containers. During this time, the waitress did not check on us once. She said nothing to us about this delay until we eventually flagged her down and asked. Then she abruptly told us it was "an innocent error," and became angry and rude. The restaurant did not charge for my meal, but that was hardly sufficient to compensate for ruining our meal anc then scolding the entire table when we politely objected. I will hesitate before returning. I hope the restaurant can turn the issue with its waitstaff around before alienating more loyal customers. read more

The cafe itself was super cute and flower themed, and many the dishes and drinks also incorporated floral stuff. Cafe Flora is such a vibe! I'm not vegetarian so I have never really been drawn to come here, but I'm glad that I did. Cafe Flora has got to be one of the most beautiful cafes I've ever been to with its aesthetic and food offerings. My plant based heart was full and ready to try all the different options they offered. A group of us came on a weeknight and were seated outside in their patio outdoor (but enclosed) patio. It was the first day of their spring menu and they encouraged us to order items to share for the table; an easy task for an Asian like myself. We went with a few amazing starters- their spread sampler served with sourdough had some of the best homemade dips ever especially their Spring Pea Hummus, the yam fries with house aioli was fire, and the spinach artichoke dip was some of the best I've had. All vegan and all amazing. The entrees though were a bit more mixed for me. The Strawberry Watercress Salad was refreshing but didn't excite me as much as I had hoped, the Risotto was a bit on the saltier side and was only half the bowl, and Fried Trumpet Mushroom over Potato Waffle had a great waffle but the mushrooms weren't as kickass as I've had at other vegan restaurants. Plus I felt it was a bit pricer for the amount of food we got in general. We ended our dinner with their Chocolate Cake with Coconut Based Vanilla Ice Cream, which came in small bite sized brownies that were probably sitting in the fridge for too long lol. I hate to not be able to give this place more stars because I love the premise, and it's an adorable location with a great setting (tons of indoor seating and a nice outdoor patio) and decor. But on my second time here (this time for brunch), I found the food only okay especially for the price. We tried the southern platter and the Rancho Colorado scramble. The garlicky greens were un unremarkable, and the mushroom gravy on top of the buttermilk biscuit was pretty salty. On the Rancho Colorado scramble, the tofu didn't seem all that seasoned - it was improved by their ketchup and hot sauce, which I think might be homemade? The potatoes were nicely seasoned, but were really inconsistently cooked - some were great and some were harder or less crispy. The dishes cost just under $20 each and the portions didn't feel worth that. I so appreciate their dietary flexibility, but think I'll be seeking other options in the future. read more

We were seated in their greenhouse looking room and it was so pretty! Love the atmosphere here! We started our morning with the golden milk latte and the passion fruit nog. Both tasty. Everyone seems to love Cafe Flora but I felt that our experience was pretty average. The place is super cute and we were able to snag a table right away even though it was a Saturday morning. Service was good. The part that was a bit disappointing was the food. I got the Roasted Potato & Scallion Belgian Waffle which I was excited about because you don't typically see a savory waffle as an option. However, it was undercooked and quite mushy. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the texture and could barely eat half of it. We also got the mochi beignets but the oil must have been too hot because our beignets, even though they aren't your typical ones, were more similar to small dark disks that were very dense and sitting in oil too hot that they needed to probably remove sooner than expected to prevent burning. The table behind us also got beignets after us and theirs looked much nicer looking. Coffee also wasn't too good - very acidic. When in Seattle this place is a gem. Food is delicious, atmosphere is inclusive and lots of gf options.

I've come here now twice for their special tea experiences (spring and Halloween), once for brunch, and twice for dinner and all of my experiences have been solid. Service is very friendly, and I love their queer/trans/nonbinary inclusivity in their bathroom signage. The best thing is that they have a large outdoor area which is both lovely and warm (lots of heat lamps). The parking lot is tiny, but it's not too hard to find street parking nearby. The food is always very good and feels relatively healthy (lots of veggies) while also being tasty. Portions are big. Their teas are fun, but a little pricey. I like the mix of sweet and savory items. I love the drinks! Cocktails, "elixirs" (not alcoholic), and warm drinks are all creative and well balanced. Honestly, sometimes I think about coming here just for the drinks. My only comment for others is that the fan favorite cinnamon roll / bun is... okay. It's nothing to write home about. Hmm, this visit was questionable. I think the main thing that stood out was how long service took - we were seated for at least an hour, which was strange especially because there were empty tables around us and there was a waiting list. It was also somewhat offputting to hear the table behind us seemingly complaining of a wrong order. Of what I ended up getting, I would say the kimchi burger was the most unique and delivered on the fermented flavor profile. I liked the tofu scramble I got, but it is easily something I can create at home more to my taste and with more flavor. We came in for dinner last night to celebrate my birthday. I was super excited to come to Cafe Flora as it has been on my radar for a long time. Our experience was incredibly disappointing. We sat for a while before our waiter took our drink order - we were waiting for our kids so I can understand maybe he thought we didn't want anything just yet. Once the rest of our table arrived, it took at least 10 more minutes to get their drink order. We put in our food order at the same time. It came out staggered. My dinner and 2 of our kids received theirs 5-7 minutes before the rest of the table so ours was getting cold. The pizzas were good as was the black bean burger. The mushroom french dip and the waffle were not. THey were poor quality for a restaurant specializing in vegetarian food. The onion rings on my waffle were terrible and over cooked. Our waiter never checked in with us during our meal. We had to ask someone to pay our bill. I had such high expectations for Cafe Flora. I really thought I was going to be blown away by the food and service. Sadly, I was not. The meal was not cheap and we knew that going into it, but for what we got we feel really disappointed. I've been going for 10~ years, and I feel that while they're getting more interesting and experimental in recipes, it's not always paying off, and the quality of standard dishes has started to take a cut (specifically in the scrambles). You can wander the few street shops though for awhile. It is also quite loud when you enter and if you get the chance to be seated outside in the garden the space is beautiful but you might get an uneven table. Love the idea of a completely plant-based dining experience, especially with a wide menu and different flavor profiles. I was happy when my bestie booked this for my palette pleasure - even though the other 3 were carnivores. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers - artichoke dip was excellent, Brussels sprouts were good, the cauliflower was cooked well but a strong flavor choice with Dijon mustard dressing and the kale salad was blanched and delicious. Our entrees were a bit disappointing - at least mine was. Requesting the burger as gluten-free actually made it into a pita wrapped gyro and the flavors got totally lost. The pita itself tasted undercooked and doughy. The risotto was the one entree hit at the table and the sweet potato fries were yummy. We recently went to the Halloween High Tea, and I fell in love. They had the place decorated for a spooky ambiance but not over done. The staff was super friendly and explained everything, as it was our first High Tea there. The tea is excellent sourced from Portland. The food items were so clever arranged from savory to sweet. They had gougeres with eyes, candy corn scone, and ghost merengues just to name a few of the times. Although they don't take reservations in general, they do reserve for the teas because they are super sold out on them. They also have a little parking lot which makes it really nice to navigate.
