My husband & I came to Cafe Jose after a morning hike. We got seated right away and served a hot coffee right away! Armando G was our server, very attentive to his tables and very friendly. He recommended the huevos rancheros & huevos con chorizo - my husband chose the Huevos Rancheros and they were delicious ! Club Wyndham and also a local tour guide recommended this place so we decided to try it for breakfast. As most places these days they are very short on help and have to curtail their hours. Not too busy and we were seated immediately. If you get there early try the Huevos Ranchero at a special price of $7.99. Quite tasty! I had the club sandwich (enough for two meals - and I'm a big 250 pound guy) and my wife had the carnitas plate. We shared that (best carnitas I've had in a long time) and had enough left over for dinner. Misty took awesome care of us. We were only in Sedona for 5 days, and typically we like to try different places. Needless to say, since it was so good, we went two days in a row. There's a reason this place has won so many awards and it's always a MUST when visiting. It's in a nice big parking lot for the shopping center so you never have to worry about finding a parking spot, food is always delicious and the service is always top notch. It isn't often that you have to write, Don't eat at X, since you can get better, more reliable food at McDonalds next door. Well, unfortunately, Cafe Jose is one of those places. I had their huevos rancheros. I would not serve this meal to a dog. My belief is that your pets deserve good treatment and good food. I was served a plate of gray, congealed unrecognizable mush. Horrific. How can they stay in business serving stuff like this??? It's a diverse world out there, but still.... Go to McDonalds. It is just across the driveway, and you will be served known food with known, identifiable ingredients. I myself prefer to aim for a higher level food establishment, but the point is that McDonalds does represent a certain reasonable level of quality. Cafe Jose does not. Both The Coffeepot and Wildflower in Sedona serve a vastly better breakfast. You can also pick up something edible at Whole Foods. One of us had the French toast, one had a "build your own" burrito (choose ingredients) and the other had the eggs benedict. Each meal was plenty of food. It is NOT gluten free. They cook everything on the same grill, no cleaning in between. They use the same toaster for all breads. I ate there with my husband and got sick, because the young waiter said they were gluten free, and gf was cooked separately. We went back to find out why I got sick and the server was knowledgeable and honest, and very kind. He told us they are not gluten free and he was very sorry about the mixup.
