Spending time with the family, and since we were in the area, we decided to go to Urban Plates. Urban Plates is located in the Playa Vista compound. The restaurant has a friendly, casual atmosphere. As we entered the restaurant, we were politely and warmly welcomed by the staff. The menu consists of a lot of options for a variety of different tastes. After reviewing the menu board, you order food at the service counter, given a table marker, and seat yourself. When your order is ready, it will be brought to your table. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The burger consists of a grass fed beef patty, tasty bacon, tomato, lettuce, pickles, a spread of thousand island dressing, all contained within a slightly grilled brioche bun. This review is for the employee I believe her name is Diana. I witnessed her mistreating a young employee named Luis right in front of everyone. He seemed shy and kept to himself, and watching her talk down to him and treat him that way was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. Just because someone may be too shy to defend themselves doesn't give you the right to embarrass or disrespect them publicly. Then there was a customer who received the wrong order. Instead of fixing the mistake or even showing basic concern, this employee basically said she didn't care if she got the wrong order because it "wasn't her problem." Seriously? That's how you treat customers? At this point, this doesn't seem like a one-time bad attitude. It looks like a pattern of disrespect toward both customers and employees. Management needs to seriously address this because nobody should have to come to work or spend their money somewhere and be treated like this. read more

I think this is high value for the quality. I did a plate with tofu, cauliflower, and the roasted potatoes, and the total before tax and tip was like $14-$15. For the quality of food, I thought that was super reasonably priced. It honestly has a nice ambiance too, esp this one, cuz it's in the heart of a cute little shopping center with tons of young families. Would def come again! Not a great experience tonight. I didn't take pics tonight because the food has been consistently great and it hasn't been necessary, but I wish I had taken pics tonight. We come here quite a bit because we have plate pass which gives you a 20% discount on your food, and their grass-fed burgers ($12.85) are off-the-chain. There are a number of things that were off tonight giving them the deduction in stars. Tonight I got the blue cheese steak sandwich ($16.95) which seemed especially small for the price. It comes with kettle chips but I upgraded to fries for an additional $3. I'm so glad I did because I would have definitely left hungry if I didn't. The flavor of the sandwich was fantastic, but again at this price point I need more sustenance! Girlfriend got the Chef Spotlight special of crispy jumbo 2 chicken tender plate ($12.57) which came with 2 sides. The chicken tenders were way overcooked. We usually get the mashed potatoes because they are made with real potatoes and usually amazing but tonight they tasted like instant mashed potatoes and were very lackluster Her second side was the beet salad and it was good as usual. She got 2 sauces to dip the tenders. The buffalo sauce was good but the honey Dijon was not good at all and had a funny taste. They are usually really good about bringing all the food out at the same time when it is ordered together, but tonight I had my sandwich for 5-10 mins before my girlfriend got her food and I was halfway finished when it finally got here. Again, we eat here a lot and tonight is not the quality we've come to expect but it was definitely disappointing. We will come back but I hope they can pull it together next time! read more

My grandma enjoyed the salmon, broccolini, and beet salad, my mom loved the jalapeño burger, and I had the Caesar wrap. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The desserts were also wonderful, not overly sweet, but just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth craving. What made our experience even more special was that Tommy spoke Spanish with my grandma, which made her feel welcomed, comfortable, and included. consistently good food and service. Food is generally good, sometimes it can be a little bit off from the norm but in general it's always fresh and tasty. I tend to go for the chicken cobb salad. But we've tried other salads of theirs (ahi tuna nicoise) and sandwiches and burgers. Burgers are good and meat is tender. Chicken tenders are also a favorite as they're pretty generous in portion. The service and cleanliness at this place have become terrible. The employees are unfriendly, seem annoyed when you ask questions, and then give you attitude after they make mistakes with your order. What's even more concerning is the lack of basic sanitation practices. Employees walk around wearing the same gloves while touching shared condiment stations, trash, and other surfaces, then immediately handle customers' food and plates without changing them. To make matters worse, my wife found a hair in her food the last time we visited. It's disappointing to see how far this place has gone downhill while prices continue to rise. Pretty good! I love how there are so many options even for the steak. Ordered the chimichurri steak. I thought they were slightly skimpy on the chimichurri but otherwise cooked perfectly (medium rare). The potatoes were so underwhelming and I like mine to be on the softer side, these weren't. I got a side Caesar salad which was nothing to ride home about. I've been to urban plate in Sunnyvale. It's a predictable spot but nothing insanely amazing about it. We ordered inside after waiting in line for not too long, and then sat down outside and waited for our food to be brought out. It's a very family-style restaurant with plates like your choice of protein, like salmon, with your choice of two sides, like fries and asparagus. They also have sandwiches and salads which seemed just as popular. Their cookies are the register were HUGE and although I didn't get to try one this time, it makes me want to get it next time I go! I did, however, get the dragonfruit strawberry lemonade which was not only so good, but very berry sweet!! The ambiance was very chill and casual, but still fun and upbeat, with a fire on the crystal rocks going and a good surrounding in the outdoor mall area.
