This restaurant chains has over (15), locations in Southern California. So, I was happy to see one nearby where I was staying and decided to pop in. I ordered the grilled Organic Tofu with Chili glaze, organic mashed potatoes and beet salad with goat cheese. The food tasted amazing and had good flavor. The portion sizes were adequate and each dish was priced accordingly. The rustic yet modern decor was visually appealing and gave off a very homey vibe. The staff were great. Periodically, they would walk around to each table and inquire about their meal. My avocado, that's the main excitement of the dish is nowhere close to right, there was a pit left inside broken in the center! In addition to the avocado being nowhere close to ripe, not sure how they managed to leave partial pit in -ouch Paid the extra 1. 50 for the gluten-free bread that was burnt to a crisp could taste the ashes when I bit in without looking:( this felt like a you got punk moment. Not a great experience tonight. I didn't take pics tonight because the food has been consistently great and it hasn't been necessary, but I wish I had taken pics tonight. We come here quite a bit because we have plate pass which gives you a 20% discount on your food, and their grass-fed burgers ($12.85) are off-the-chain. There are a number of things that were off tonight giving them the deduction in stars. Tonight I got the blue cheese steak sandwich ($16.95) which seemed especially small for the price. It comes with kettle chips but I upgraded to fries for an additional $3. I'm so glad I did because I would have definitely left hungry if I didn't. The flavor of the sandwich was fantastic, but again at this price point I need more sustenance! Girlfriend got the Chef Spotlight special of crispy jumbo 2 chicken tender plate ($12.57) which came with 2 sides. The chicken tenders were way overcooked. We usually get the mashed potatoes because they are made with real potatoes and usually amazing but tonight they tasted like instant mashed potatoes and were very lackluster Her second side was the beet salad and it was good as usual. She got 2 sauces to dip the tenders. The buffalo sauce was good but the honey Dijon was not good at all and had a funny taste. They are usually really good about bringing all the food out at the same time when it is ordered together, but tonight I had my sandwich for 5-10 mins before my girlfriend got her food and I was halfway finished when it finally got here. Again, we eat here a lot and tonight is not the quality we've come to expect but it was definitely disappointing. We will come back but I hope they can pull it together next time! read more

I think this is high value for the quality. I did a plate with tofu, cauliflower, and the roasted potatoes, and the total before tax and tip was like $14-$15. I've never been to this location, but my coworker picked up some sandwiches, and they were quite good. I particularly liked the chicken and steak sandwiches. I visited this location on Monday 3/30/26. Let me start off by saying that the person taking our order at the front was kind and friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't live up to that first impression. I ordered the blackened salmon with a side salad and potatoes. However, I realized that the salmon was undercooked as soon as I cut into it. I walked over to the server and told him about the salmon. The server said a new order would be prepared, but it took quite a while to come out. By the time my replacement dish arrived, my girlfriend had already finished her entire meal, which made our dinning experience disappointing. What made things worse was the server's attitude. When the new dish was brought out he said, "here's your salmon, well done'", which in a way that felt very dismissive. I never asked for it to be well done--I simply wanted it properly cooked. The replacement salmon appeared to have been pounded thinner, and it ended up being overly salty, and dry. It was visually less appealing than the first one too. Overall, the experience was poor. Between the long wait, inconsistent food quality, and unprofessional service, I wouldn't return. read more

There is an automatic service charge on the bill in addition to being asked to leave a tip when you pay. The food was actually really good. I had the skirt steak plate with mushrooms and broccoli. The steak was deliciously medium rare and the sauces on the veggies were great. The amount of steak seemed small though. I wish there were a few more ounces of meat. The ambiance is clean and casual. You order at the counter and they give you a number and they bring it to the table. I'd come again for a light lunch or dinner. There's ample parking due to its location and way to find since the area is so walkable. The restaurants concept on food and ordering is different from many restaurants but I appreciated it. When you walk in, you stand online to order your food and then take a number which is placed on your table. The food is then delivered to you by a staff member. This was my first time to this location and I hadn't been to an Urban Plates in a few years. It was my daughter's first time to an UP and I described it as a step up from Tender Greens. I think the menu at UP is a little more well-rounded and the food is a smidge better than TG, but it's very similar in concept and offerings. I had the steak salad and she had the beets & avocado bowl. We ordered a side of fries to share (didn't want to be toooo healthy) and the portion was ridiculously small for $4.95. It was one small plate. I'm not saying anyone really NEEDS to eat more fries than half a small plate, but there considering how cheap and easy to prepare French fries are, the portion was about half of what is should have been and this is the ONLY reason I'm giving them a 4 star review. Our food was very good and the service was fine. It's a quick serve counter where you order from the cash register and take a number and your drinks to your table, then someone delivers the food. Our food came out in a timely manner and was really fresh with quality ingredients. I was impressed with the quality of the steak and it was cooked really well - tender and juicy! We were there early evening on a Friday - I think around 5:45pm, so it wasn't busy at all, the dining room was over half empty. I'm not sure what the service would be like during busier times, but we were happy with our experience. We have been going to this Urban Plates for many years, ever since it first opened, I think! The ease of service, pleasant atmosphere and tasty food at reasonable prices made it a place we always went back to. But the most recent time we went, we were disappointed. Our favorite dish, the beef braise (just like beef stew) with a side of mashed potatoes, was mostly gravy and just a little bit of meat and vegetables. And the price had gone up (which is expected, but not for a smaller and smaller quantity of food). It was still tasty but just not enough real food for the price. We decided we probably would not be going back. My husband used the "Contact Us" part of their website to explain our dissatisfaction. To our extreme surprise, barely a minute after he hit Submit - he received a call from Oscar, the manager. He apologized and asked us to give them another try. Which we certainly will be doing now.
