Cafe Laurent is a love letter to French Parisian culture without being too gaudy. It captures all the charming aspects of dining in a French cafe without being overwhelming or stupid expensive. My boyfriend and I dropped in around 8:30AM this morning and were immediately accommodated. We had just come from the airport and the host gave us a larger table so we could set out stuff down. I really appreciated the gesture. The food was great! My boyfriend got the chicken hash, which was super delicious without being too heavy on the stomach. I had the french toast, which was amazing! I love the mixture of fruits within the french toast and the texture of the toast itself was just right. It wasn't too sweet and I honestly didn't even need the maple syrup. Food was delicious, but gets a lower rating from me due to the hostess service. We placed ourselves on the waitlist via Yelp which said we would be seated in 15-30 minutes. Ten minutes later, we received a notification that the table was ready, although we had just parked. Upon arriving, we were told we missed our waitlist time (despite arriving before the 15 minute mark). We were asked to wait ten more minutes but then offered a table that was half in the sun. We declined in order to wait for a fully shaded table. The hostess eventually sat us but soon after we ordered our drinks, she asked us to move to another table in order for them to accommodate a larger party. I felt this was rather rude given we were already told we missed our waitlist time despite being early AND they had already seated us after their mistake. On top of that, we had to remind our server of the coffee we ordered and didn't receive it until after our food arrived. This was a disappointing experience given it was my first time eating here. I had enough left over for a second breakfast. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, I recommend the patio if the weather permits. They also have a live jazz band playing outside. I docked off some points for the service. More of an FYI nothing egregious, the time from ordering to getting our food took some time. Needed a new breakfast spot and I just so happened to stumble across this little cafe in Culver City. I was here with my mom and dog so we were seated in the outside patio in the back which was shady and cute. I ordered the Carnaval Crepe which is just strawberries, bananas, and Nutella with a side of whip cream and fruits! The crepe was yummy but I kinda wish I'd ordered the Breakfast Paris Sandwich, it looked delicious so I'm definitely ordering that next time. My mom ordered the breakfast special and you can tell everything is definitely made from scratch. By far the best part of her plate was the potato gratin! It was so yummy and cheesy I wanted more! Well, some of us liked it, some of us didn't. That's the way it goes. I wanted the empanadas platter. I couldn't get it, because I have an onion sensitivity. The first thing the server told me is that they can't make it without onions because they're all pre-made. Well that sucked. Nothing else was really jumping out at me, so I chose a basic make-your-own with peanut butter and chocolate chip. The crepe was literally like a half and half pizza on the inside...I opened it up after my first bites were all chocolate and confirmed that the two fillings were not combined. Other consensus was dry crepe fillings, and my grandma's hollandaise sauce seemed extremely thick. Final negative: I don't like pretentiousness. If you are charging almost $3 for a can of soda (with no refills), don't bring out a cup of ice, open up my can, then pour it like a fine wine....especially when it took a half hour after for the food to arrive. They have both indoor seating, and pet friendly patio seating (which I personally recommend, even if you didn't bring Fido). So this place is definitely good for a brunch party, as they'll certainly find something interesting on the menu. The food at Cafe Laurent definitely isn't take your pants off, jaw droppingly delicious, but it's definitely a reliably good and fresh meal. I've personally enjoyed their sandwiches and have consistently been pretty pleased with my choices. Overall, a decent option for breakfast, and you don't need to wake up at the crack of dawn to steal a seat. I got an iced latte that tasted like it was actually from France and my boyfriend got a fresh squeezed orange juice that he said was really fresh. We ordered a breakfast sandwich which was exactly what I wanted and the "fancy brunch". The fancy brunch was French toast with berries, potatoes gratin, and a Croissant with eggs, sausage, & hollandaise. The waiter recommended it to us and it was amazing! Lovely, sweet, adorable, outdoor dining, BYOB. All the magic words. 5-dollar fee for a bottle of champagne, and 8 dollars for a carafe of orange juice to mix a our mimosas. The cafe is open only for breakfast and lunch, and the menu is made accordingly, with a nice mix that straddles breakfast, lunch, and any gap in between. L'Atlantique is a perfect omelet, with just-right proportions of smoked salmon, cilantro, and a touch of cream cheese. The Steak Bearnaise isn't the most tender of steaks, but it does hit the spot, and the creamy Bearnaise is to die for. La Tango is a paper-thin crepe, very French, and the dulce de leche with ripe bananas is pure indulgence. This is the kind of cafe you'd stumble upon if you went to France. The complimentary baguette and tapenade were satisfying my cravings, I had to order a second serving! For my meal, I opted for the Bistro sandwich. I ate half there, and saved half for later. I was there on 10/28/23 at 2:23pm, my friend had arrived earlier and asked if it was ok to order food that late, being that they close at 3 pm. The waiter explained that it was ok, as long as we finished with the payment, etc. by 3 PM. I've ordered eggs and my friend a sandwich, that where ok. My favorite weekend brunch. Just a little advice before you go there, get prepared and be hungry! You're in for a treat. I usually order the fancy brunch which costs $18 and you get a croissant filled with ground chicken, eggs and topped with a delicious hollandaise sauce. You also get delicious potatoes gratin, a side of fruit and the best part, their French toast. Very good breakfast and if you're not really hungry you most likely won't finish it all. Also the owners as well as the servers are very friendly and helpful.
