I'm a little mad at cafe Lulu. I work for corporate event firm who caters to executives travelling for business. The first time I came here a week ago, there was a black hair spread with the cream cheese on my client's bagel. He pulled it out from within the cream cheese right in the middle of our morning meeting. This morning I came to grab fresh coffees. Four 16oz cups at $2.15 each. No big deal except when I brought them to the morming meeting. Barely filled 3/4 of the way.... I paid for 16oz of coffee....I didn't even get 12oz (Yeah, we measured it.) So now i've spent my morning getting grief for being robbed by a local shop TWICE. Thanks for cheating me LULU. I look like an ass now for giving you another shot. read more

I'm not sure if it was the weak pull of espresso that graced my latte. Ugh. It had all the flavor of Maxwell House. Or maybe it was the sour looks that the barista threw at me, possibly because I interrupted her conversation with the other barista. Or perhaps that I felt like I had wandered into someone's kitchen - uninvited - and had the nerve to ask for a drink. Yes, very cute with all the stripey things, and clearly a place that the Mothers Who Greenlake enjoy visiting after their constitutional. But I'll stick with the awesome coffee and sweet, friendly baristas at Revolution down the street. The coffee is decent, and the cafe itself is always clean and filled with travel books to look through. Unfortunately, the service is dreadful. I have lived near cafe Lulu for almost three years and go in frequently, and yet, the staff seem to have little interest in conversing or even politely smiling. I'm not saying I need to be your number one customer, but after THREE YEARS, acting like you're just another shmoe is disheartening, and cold. I have continued to go only because it is the closest cafe to me. If you can find somewhere else, go there. You might actually get a heartbeat or two. read more

I had such high hopes for Cafe Lulu, instead I was met with disgruntled baristas. Oh I am sorry...I thought you were supposed to be working. It was like my husband and I had interrupted a serious conversation or something. I was craving a bagel and fortunately...they had 2 left, so my husband and I ordered both and got a dirty look from the barista. Who knows why?! Seriously...do they not know that this is Seattle and there are hundreds of coffee shops. I would rather go to Starbucks, at least their baristas make eye contact and are friendly. This cozy, charming coffee shop is unique in that they have a surprisingly big menu for such a tiny space. I appreciate that there are more than pastries available to have with my coffee. I just live around the corner from Cafe Lulu, and I visit this cafe on a semi-regular basis. The service is great (and efficient), they have a fantastic selection of baked goods (their croissants and breakfast burritos are amazing!), and Lulu's has quite possibly the best Chai in Seattle (yes, even over Trabant). I'm also a big fan of their espresso drinks as well. The place has a nice ambience, it's warm and cozy, and as a bonus, they have a good selection of travel guide books to flip through while you wait for your coffee. Only downside is that they close early, around 3pm on weekdays. However, I imagine it gets to be pretty slow in the late afternoon, so from a cost standpoint, it makes sense that they close early, even though I'd like them to stay open later! read more

I used to go a few times a week when it first opened, but moved out of the neighbourhood and had sorta forgotten about it until I found myself walking by a few days ago. You know, as much as I loved it when I was a "regular," ...I still do. Lulu's is great! Karen and her team greet everyone with a smile and have some killer coffee drinks to boot. The Mexican chocolate is amazing. Sweet, spicy and juuuuust right! I love sitting in the window up front and soaking up some sun and reading. What a great way to spend a morning. The breakfast items are great too! Granola, yogurt, bagels with everything on them. The quiche is awesome! I had a ham and tomato quiche that was to die for. Cheesy, salty, with a flaky crust. And this was a pretty dense piece of breakfast goodness! Wonderful coffee shop near greenlake with amazing espresso, and a nice section of other teas, chai, Italian sodas and local kombucha. What I appreciate about this place is the employees really know what they are doing and have worked there for a long time. In addition, the food selections are all done really well. We moved around the corner to Lulu's almost 4 years ago and it has been our haven ever since. They make a great coffee but what always brings me back is the staff. In the morning my sons always vote to head to the coffee shop for some lucky charms. They might be cheaper if I bought them at the store but it just wouldn't be the same. If you see cut flowers on the counter, they are usually from my boys who think a requirement to head to the coffee shop is to bring a flower for the gals who work there. As for wi-fi - I used to be able to get access if I sat at the front corner table because someone must have had it nearby. =) read more

I love that Lulu has such a large menu for such a small spot. The bagels and bagel sandwhiches are a must for me on any road trip that starts in the morning. The coffee is also good and the coffee drinks are consistent. I love the atmosphere, as long as it isn't crowed. It's cozy and charming. I can't give five stars for two reasons: The place is so small, it's hard to even get in there to order because of the tables right in front of the counter, and for this reason the service can be really slow. A quaint little spot, just oh so perfect to drop by and grab your favorite caffeinated drink before stepping out into the rain for a brisk walk. This is a cute little (little!) cafe. They have travel books to read while you drink your coffee, which is cool. The people who work there are super nice, and the choices for bagel toppings are really good. They also put on enough toppings which is an issue sometimes at Irwin's across the street. I think they do waffles on the weekends, but I haven't gotten one, I'm a bagel and coffee guy. I like the vibe here a ton. My only issue is they tend to "leave room" whether you ask them to or not, and the coffee isn't super cheap. Yo dawgs, fill that shit to the brim! That said, Starbucks does the same thing, I think because Seattlites can't drink black coffee or something, but I hate it when I forget to say "no room" and the thing comes like half empty. NOTE: That is just me exaggerating, Lulu's does not actually serve half empty coffee!! Anyway I do think this place isn't super cheap, but it gets the coveted fifth star for awesome, friendly, service, and the positive vibe the employees seem to have amongst each other. read more

I really don't understand why this place has good reviews. We stopped by for a coffee as we were waiting for our table across the street. It was crowded and we took that to be a good sign. I ordered a mocha and my friend got a peppermint mocha. Don't really remember what the boys got. My mocha was probably the worst mocha I have ever had. The milk tasted poor quality. The chocolate tasted chalky. I couldn't even finish it. (or didn't want to waste the calories). My friend said her mint mocha tasted like "rolaids blended into milk" ewwww. The boys werent very impressed with their drinks either and we ended up throwing them all away. i can't speak to the food here (maybe its good?). Two friends from out of town and I stumbled upon this little spot unexpectedly. The bagel egg sandwiches were yummy with pesto, cheese and bacon. The only complaint about the food is that they prepare all the eggs in the microwave. The drip coffee was lovely along with the ambiance of the place. Unfortunately, the woman who serves us was feeling rather passive aggressive. We all ordered separately and she had something snippy and backhanded to say each time. Nothing horrific, just markedly unpleasant. There were several regular that came through and received great service and warm greetings. Overall, ok. Absolutely love this place, mostly because it's obvious the owner loves it, too. The décor is charming, original, and warm, with not a single hint of the chilly corporate vibe a lot of coffee shops have nowadays. Everything in it, from the travel books to the cute panda garbage can in the bathroom, seems to have been picked because the owner liked it, not because it matched some kind of vision or vibe, which is something I really appreciate. The coffee is consistently delicious, with the chai occupying a throne of amazingness all on its own. And all the baked goods are wonderful, especially the gluten free banana bread. The service is what really makes this place shine, though. The lady with the chin-length dark hair (I think it's the owner) is crazy nice. She knows almost every person who walks in, but more than that, she (and the other staff members) are just as welcoming to the people they don't know. That's very unusual and appreciated. Hanging out at this café makes me nostalgic for all the afternoons I spent doing homework and helping out at my mom's bakery when I was a kid. It has that same feel :) I do wish it was open later so I could do a bit of reading there after class; as it is, I usually can't make it by before closing. Cafe Lulu is such a cute little coffee shop. The tile on the walls near the entrance spells out "LULU" in black and white tile. This is one of those places where the baristas get to know you and remember you when you return and the owner is almost always there. They have a small selection of breakfast items (bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, as well as breakfast burritos from the nearby Cafe Racer.) I'd love to see Lulu open longer in the afternoons (only open until 3!) but it makes sense given their quieter location. Their coffee is Stumptown, which is a bit on the bitter side. I personally prefer something smoother, but your tastes may vary. Wifi is reliable, and they've run a power strip down one of the walls so there are several tables with outlets for working on laptops. It's not so busy that you feel bad occupying a spot either to work. read more

Came here with a friend this morning. She got the white mocha and I got the Mexican mocha. The barista recommended the almond milk with it, so that's what I got. The result: mediocre. I wasn't impressed or disappointed, just somewhere in between. I will point out that they have a huge variety of travel magazines that customers can leaf through, cool touch. I walked into this shop on suggestions from yelp, but was confronted with a boring menu, and mediocre service. The cafe was empty, so I would have felt bad just leaving, so I ordered an iced tea with strawberry and lavender syrups, trying to mimic a drink I had at a fantastic cafe in Oahu called Chadlou's. They looked at me like I had a third eyeball, but tried their best to accommodate my request, which is why they get three stars for good service. The drink was passible, but not too delicious. Around Green Lake it's about the one coffee shop open that serves something other than a pre-made sandwich on Monday. Most breakfast restaurants were closed on Monday. The cafe is small (8 single or /seater tables and window bar seating for 4). 5 tables were filled with people and their laptops. The menu was small for breakfast - bagel egg-which (egg, bacon, scallions and capers) and your choice of baked or kettle boiled bagel. Cafe Lulu has become my new neighborhood go-to coffee shop when I need to get some work done. It's a tiny little shop with a few tables, a shelf of travel books, and friendly baristas. Almost everyone that comes in here is a regular so the place has a very homey vibe to it. I've been here a few times now and have already had conversations with strangers on multiple occasions. As far as the coffee goes, it's a little cheaper than the shop down the street which is nice and I haven't been disappointed. I have to say I don't really come here for the coffee as much as the atmosphere, but I had a hot chocolate today and it was AMAZING. They also have delicious looking granola, bagel sandwiches and pastries if you need a bite (waffles on Fri, Sat, Sun). All in all there's not much to the place, but I love that if you go enough you'll always see a familiar face. Also, they're always playing music I like! The only downside is their hours - they're only open until 5 during the week and 2 on the weekends... not ideal for night studying. read more

The location of Cafe Lulu is right off the corner of Latona and 65th. So, if you're needing some pick me up caffeine without the hustle and bustle of Greenlake, this is your perfect oasis. There is soft music playing in the background (right now it's Joni Mitchell) and the vague sound of a neighbor's lawn mower. The drink options diverse, as all Seattle cafes are...but it was the snack choices that make this place a little more special. I'll give this place 5 for two things: they serve Lucky Charms and they know what they are and limit themselves to that. You won't be wowed by a smaller cafe ladro/zoka, it's just a nice little coffee shop. They serve the types of items you'd find in a shop like this. They do good bagel breakfast sandwiches and have a few cookies they make themselves. The staff are really nice and the owner is around. They don't try to be more than they are.
