I was an asshole and didn't realize they closed at 2 on sundays and my friend and I sat in the back for a REALLY long time catching up, completely unaware of what jerks we were being. The point is: coffee was delicious, food was delicious, and the service was awesome, even after they had been closed for an hour. They didn't ask us to leave, they didn't rush us, and were super friendly on our way out. I do wish they had told us, but they fact that they didn't and we're so friendly that we didn't realize, is pretty remarkable. So check it out, just don't be a jerk and sit there like we did. read more

The closest Cumberland has to a Starbucks. I mean this in the best way -- they have coffee with many flavored lattes, free wi-fi and a bunch if outlets to plonk your laptop down and get to work. The food is nice too, and the back section is open so you can see the chefs creating their work -- watching their cake pops was a fun experience. Service is simple and quick, the wooden decor has a cozy feel to it and they feature local (or formerly local) artists on their walls, which is cool. (Check out Shane Miller's landscapes). Good to go when staying in is driving you crazy and there's literally nothing else open. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped here for breakfast. We should have went anywhere else. I got an overpriced eggs, toast, bacon, and coffee. I will say the coffee was tasty. I asked for some ice, meaning a few cubes in it, but they turned it into an iced coffee :( The bacon was microwaved. We actually sat by where they cook and saw that most of the food was microwaved. She got French toast and even that was microwaved. We should have turned around when we saw the line. You stand in line to order and pay, then they cook and deliver your food to your table. The icing on the cake, however, is that we were kicked out of the establishment in a very rude way. My sister and I were having lunch along with her 4 year old autistic son. He was having a difficult day and was crying/whining a bit. Very mellow for him actually. The owner/manager (?) came up to our table and told us we needed to leave since we couldn't keep the child quiet. I have never had this happen before. I suppose he has never raised a child or volunteered at a special olympics. I want everyone to know that he picks on special needs children and will do my best to spread that around. read more

This place is so adorable! They have so many food options and they all looked delicious! We stopped off the highway for a quick bite and it was exactly that! Beyond the food being delicious and it being a convenient stop, Tyler was so sweet, helpful in picking the best foods and gave us the history of the town! Great little coffee shop to hang out in in Cumberland! I had a delicious and reasonably priced omelet & coffee and was able to stay and work off of my laptop in a very comfortable space. Taking the slow road back home to Chicago after the annual family visit in Rehoboth/ DC/ Annapolis, we found ourselves passing through quaint Cumberland MD, in search of a good cup of coffee. The Yelp machine directed us to Cafe Mark. Jamaican Blue coffee, french pressed (offered on Fridays). We had the breakfast burrito (scrambled egg, pepper, onion, cheddar, breakfast sausage, spinach tortilla, mild chipotle sauce), which was the daily special. Comes w/ a cup of coffee, which we upgraded to french press for an extra $1. Everything was prepared well using fresh, quality ingredients. Also had a delicious cinnamon streusel muffin. Jennifer's Desserts is the in-house pastry chef. Very comfortable seating areas (upstairs & downstairs), nice ambiance. Professional, friendly, attractive staff. The owner is very hard working, obviously cares about his product and his customers, and trains his employees. WiFi available, so I was able to conduct some business remotely. I was there for 2 hours in the more quiet upstairs area: plugged in the laptop, comfy couch. I needed more caffeine, so I got an XL latte, which was richer and more satisfying than an overpriced bitter venti. We got some spinach & cheese croissants and harvest cookies (oatmeal, raisin, etc.) for the road. Only negative for me was that I didn't care for the Michael Bolton-esque music, but that's my personal preference. If you're passing through Cumberland, maybe cycling on the scenic C&O Canal Towpath / Great Allegheny Passage Trail or camping at nearby Rock Gap State Park, I highly recommend this cafe. I was really disappointed here. I stopped in with my family of 5 to get some lunch. I think we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came over to us. I browsed through the menu and it looked like there were many options that could be altered to make gluten free. For example, they had just a regular plain salad on the menu. They also had a lot of sandwich with things like turkey meat. I do not expect people to bend over backwards for my gluten allergy. But when I asked the waitress if there were any options for me she said "probably nothing." She didn't even attempt to make a suggestion. I asked her about the soup and she said "I have no idea" and "I could ask the woman who makes it but I doubt she even knows what she puts in there!" Umm.. okay? This place can't be very fresh if even the chefs "have no idea" what they put in things. After this she stood there ready to take everyone elses order, oblivious that there was "not a thing" I could eat. It would have been very easy to suggest the salad. She didn't. There was also no "daily salad special of the day" even though it says there's one on the menu. I am really bummed because I just moved to the area, work from home and love coffee. I really envisioned myself coming here on a weekly basis. Not only did she lose 5 lunch and drink orders that day, she lost what would be a regular customer. read more

OMG!!!! Other worldly!!! On a visit from Arizona, my girlfriend and I were driving to Virginia to explore for the day, found this place on Yelp and decided to pop in for breakfast. The crunchy French Toast and Homemade Biscuits and Gravy were on special....we ordered both. There was no going wrong here, both were amazing. We met the owner Mark and made sure to tell him how much we enjoyed our meal. If we are ever in the area again we will make this a destination. read more

This is a nice little find in Cumberland MD. The breakfast specials are really nice and they buy a lot of there vegetables from local farmers markets which is always a plus. The coffee is really good and the lattes are made with really quality espresso that has a smooth finish. I really liked the atmosphere of this place as well. They have a cool little loft seating area and it has a very relaxing feel. read more

Line out the door at opening. You have to order and pay, then they bring out food. Got the egg sandwich,..fried egg with cheese on a croissant. It was fresh and soft. Only complaint is I asked for them to break the yolk and it wasn't. Different milk options for the coffee would have been nice. At least one non dairy option, like soy, almond or coconut milk would have been good. read more

If I lived in Cumberland, or came here more than once in a lifetime (Literally had never been to Cumberland before) I would frequent Café Mark and probably make it one of my go-to spots! I stopped in for lunch after making some business visits around town. I love the space, lots of seating, from tables to the bar, to the lounge-looking area on the second floor in the back. The specials were easy to find: chalkboard on the sidewalk and chalkboard on the left side of the wall as you walk in. The menu is pretty small but I ended up with the special salad: Spinach, pears, gouda, walnuts and balsamic. YUM! There was a mountain of thick shredded gouda on that thing, like probably a quarter pound of cheese on that salad! It wasn't a huge salad and probably could have used some chicken or turkey to make it more filling but still very good! I don't know that I will ever be back, but if I am, I would love to try the coffee! Also, bonus points for having really nice bathrooms! read more

Though it is distant from the bustle of the kitchen, you're well looked after by the staff, especially if you tip your barrista! I feel like Marks is ready for an honest updated review. This place has taken a dive under new ownership. Had a bad experience there last weekend and chalked it up to a bad day. Today the special was a breakfast Reuben. They said it was a Reuben with eggs. Sounded good. It came out with 2 slices of corned beef, thousand island and cheese. No kraut. No eggs. 2 slices of beef on a reuben!? I've never seen one that wasn't stacked high! Nobody ever came back around to check on anything so I just ate it as is. Weak sandwich. Kids got dry pancakes. He said they were small so I ordered an adult pancake for one of them. They were the size of a dinner plate. Kids meal would've been more than enough but he convinced me otherwise. After about 10 years of this place being my favorite, I'm done with it. Many updates inside to change the look, and updated cash registers, but who really cares about that when your food suffers tremendously. Won't be back. read more

Stopped in for a coffee on a Monday afternoon. Medium Americano was ok, muffin of the month was pretty good, and the cream of crab soup was delicious. Very relaxed decor (you could easily fall asleep upstairs, it's so dark and comfy). Employees were nice, but a little distant. Overall, nice place to chat over coffee, but not a place that I'd make it a point to stop in when I visit Cumberland (...unless they were serving that cream of crab soup...whew). read more

The menu is creative, the dishes nicely presented and service was friendly and timely. High quality coffee. Very good baked goods for sale as well. Our suggestion is to combine some of them (perhaps the whole wheat croissants and bacon scones) into the other menu items like the egg dishes. The food was delicious, I recommend the Turkey tornado, and the seasonal veggies. I am not a big coffee drinker, but they had hot chocolate you could melt away in. The staff were very friendly and super nice, and answered all our questions being the first time we visited, it will not be the last . Looking forward to trying breakfast. read more
