I'm a local, i live close to cafe michealangelo and it seems to disappoint in some one every time we go. They will always give the wrong order in someway. I ate there today and the service was terrible, it's not busy at all and we waited for 5 minutes for the man to get our table. We finally got our appetizers and the bread was out after them. I've been coming to this restaurant for years for lunch, but just recently rediscovered it for dinner. What a great discovery!. The menu is filled with delicious Italian cooking with a gourmet flare. Try the varied pasta dishes. I'm a seafood lover and there's lots to excite me. There is plenty of outdoor seating and entertainment on certain nights. Blah blah blah "Russian" hang out... This place is now Italian owned. If that matters to some people. Quality in my opinion has been consistent for several years now. My family and I come here pretty often and never had a bad meal. Service did slip for about a year or two but times change and employees come and go. Right now Michelangelo's is a good night out and good food can be expected. Outdoor seating,bar,live music or indoor seating in a relaxed atmosphere. Can't go wrong anyway you choose. If it's too Russian or Italian for you perhaps you should eat elsewhere. read more

Had a fabulous meal on Friday night. Place looked crazy busy, but we got a table in 10 minutes(less than the 15 minute wait we were told). Food was excellent as was the service. We had a very minor issue that our server, Diane, went above and beyond to resolve quickly and to our satisfaction. Great vibe with music in the outside area. Have to get back again soon. We will NEVER RETURN to this so-called family restaurant again. Let me preface this review by saying that I hardly ever go on yelp to write a review unless there was a strong reason for me to do so. A group of us (four kids and four adults) went to Cafe Michelangelo for dinner today. Our families have been to this restaurant separately, but this is the first time we've been there together. As a parent of two children, I understand the stigma attached to going to a restaurant with children, but at the end of the day, we are still paying customers and expect appropriate service. The server was beyond nice and was timely, however I cannot say the same about the restaurant manager, Juiliano. We were seated in the corner of the cover patio area- there were no tables behind us, but we were near the entrance to their outdoor patio area. Two out of our four kids were playing in a small corner beside our table when one of their toy cars accidentally was pushed over by the patio entrance. At this point, the manager kicked the car over towards the kids and looked at us and said "okay, can you keep it to your side, I'm trying to run a restaurant not a daycare." We were all in shock. After we took a few seconds to wrap our heads around what just happened, we immediately walked up to him and told him to cancel our dessert order and bring us the check. I cannot believe an ADULT thought it was appropriate to speak to someone else in that manner, let alone a manager of a restaurant. Your job is truly to accommodate to a variety of clientele. Let's face it this IS NOT A FINE DINING RESTAURANT- it is SUPPOSEDLY a family restaurant located in northeast philadelphia. Treat your clients with respect and learn how to speak. It is disheartening to have our night ruined. He not only upset us, but our children witnessed his behavior. read more

Went to Michelangelo's this evening for dinner and had an incredibly delicious meal with excellent service from our server Leah , who was professional, courteous and friendly . I had the Veal Parmigiana and loved it . It was served with a delicious pasta with very tasty red sauce along with a fresh crisp salad with homemade balsamic dressing . I was there with 3 friends and they were equally impressed with their meals and service . The food was excellent the service great . The prices for meals and drinks very reasonable . The table was kept clear at all times of any used dishes by a very courteous bus person . Overall I was very pleased with my dining experience and I'll definitely be coming back to Michelangelo's . read more

This is more or less my go to spot for pizza. We usually get the Michelangelo or Parmigiano pies. Both are great. Their fried calamari is delicious. We order it with the diavolo sauce (which is usually a few bucks extra, but worth it). The pasta isn't too bad. I'm not really a fan of pasta but theirs is probably better than most high end restaurants in my opinion. I ask for light sauce always but that's just how I like my pasta. I wouldn't order their sandwiches. I don't think their that great. But honestly you shouldn't be going there for sandwiches... The pizza and calamari make up for the subpar sandwiches and this place is getting 5 stars because I think they're that good. Also their creme brûlée is incredible! I get it often from many different restaurants and I like theirs the best. read more

I happened upon this establishment when I was in the area and needed lunch. The waitress was quick, efficient and polite. I got the Michelangelo pizza and it was delicious. The ambiance was fun and different than my usual haunts in the suburbs so that was a pleasant surprise. I definitely enjoyed my impromptu visit! And the name is awesome, of course. read more

Had dinner here Friday 4/5/19, was seated quickly (surprising for a Friday night). The indoor dining area (w/booths) lighting was a bit harsher than I recall. Waiter was initially attentive and drinks, and dinner arrived relatively quickly. I ordered the grilled octopus appetizer (which is still on point and perfect!), my date ordered shrimp and pasta (according to the menu it has 7 shrimp, a bit miserly for an $18 plate in my opinion), he received what appeared to be a pound of linguini with 5 medium sized shrimp. While he enjoyed the Alfredo sauce, he found himself excavating through the hill of pasta looking for more. Quite a disappointment! This was his first time here and I felt badly. We waited quite a while after for the waiter to offer dessert/coffee (we declined). Check arrived and I excused myself to the restroom. That's when I became appalled! Immediately upon entering I noticed the overwhelming urine smell (think a subway stop), the trash can overflowing, litter all over the floor, the last foot of t.p. (advised the waitress passing by when I left), and lack of paper towels. I am HIGHLY disappointed and won't be recommending again. I have been on the hunt for a good margherita pizza in my area, and after seeing pictures from other people on Yelp, I decided to give Cafe Michelangelo a try. I ordered 2 pizzas to-go for lunch, 1 margherita and 1 Pollo Rosso. The Pollo Rosso (white pizza with grilled chicken, riccotta, and crushed tomatoes) was really good, it had the perfect amount of sauce. The margherita pizza, however, I was disappointed with. There was no fresh basil or fresh mozzarella on the pizza, it really just looked like a plain cheese pizza. It tasted good, but not at all was what I had pictured and would be a traditional margherita pizza. I'm pretty sure I was duped with a plain pizza but paid for a margherita. I had some of my own basil at home, which helped. Overall the food was actually good, but I will have to continue on in my quest for the perfect margherita pizza, and hopefully get what I ordered. read more

I pass this place all the time and I've never thought to give it a try until one of my friends was raving about it and wanted to go. I ordered a Michaelangelo pizza and added broccoli- it was delicious!! The thin crust was great and the ingredients on the pizza were well balanced. We also ordered calamari which was yummy as well. The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 was because our waitress made my friend and I extremely uncomfortable. She was aggressive and I think she was trying to joke around with us, but it came off very strange. Our dining experience would've been much better with a different waiter or waitress. Though Cafe Michelangelo can draw quite a crowd of Soviet twenty-somethings, which at times can be irritants, it remains one of the of few spots in the North-East with out-door dining. Not that big a plus in my book but still something to consider.(especially now during spring) Furthermore, the out-door dining experience is not marred by car exhaust, as it often is in Center City; which is a defiant perk. In fact, the Brick oven pizza they serve makes the place smell like an traditional Italian place should. This is not to say, however, the place is ideal out-door dining. The place still needs lots of work on its veranda, work which seems to be advancing at a painfully slow pace. And the lame music and crowds can kill an evening. As for the food, the previous two Yelpers had it right; it's a spread traditional Italian fair that is quite good but not exceptional. The portions are quite hardy and worth what you pay. My suggestions: try the calamari in garlic sauce (a scampi sauce) as an appetizer. And defiantly don't pass up the A+ Desserts. (But if you are frugal, hightail it the Net Cost Market a block away to purchase the same Bindi desserts at a fraction of the cost in the freezer section) P.S. Since I haven't reviewed this place in a few years (2010?? WOW-times flies), I think its time to give an updated review of my experience last night. I came here with my family and we sat on the patio near the bar but not directly outside. This is a beautiful place to have a spring luncheon or summer dinner and the outside area really makes this place special with their bocce court and garden seating. I started out with a French Martini, which was fabulous as always. For appetizers we had: Shrimp and Octopus salad-drizzled in olive oil and lemon which was pretty good Mussels in garlic sauce- Good, not the best I have ever had, but solid. Pasta Fagoli Soup-okay Main: Mahi-Mahi in puttanesca sauce over linguine-my husband liked it Mushroom and Spinach Ravioli in blush sauce-DELICIOUS. The service from Farouk is always top-notch and the food is never disappoints. Before having a baby we'd come her at at least once a week and I think I 'm ready to start that tradition up again now that my son is able to sit down for more than an hour. read more

Ok so I recently discovered this place and got a tad addicted from the jump. First of all, this place is always packed. Every table full and the bar is in full swing as well. They have 3 dining areas, and also outdoor seating. TVs around the bar area and an outdoor stage for music. They have music several times a week and even a bocce league which I though was really cool! Now the food. Brick oven pizzas which are absolutely fresh and delicious. The pasta are beyond delicious. The sauces and pasta shapes are just what you would find in Italy. They have several specials to choose from on any given night, never disappoints. They offer take out too which I found pretty cool and convenient. State of the art espresso machine is also there for a strong brew! Needless to say. This is a true gem to find in the far northeast. I'll definitely be back again and again to chill in one of the gazebos while watching the bocce club play! read more

Sooooo... I end up here periodically because other people in my group feel the food is worth it. I will heartily say no. I ordered the alla vodka yesterday and it was lacking seasoning. Also it made me sick. Feeling like an old maid we went for a late lunch/early dinner. Being the only meal I consumed yesterday their can be no other culprit. I have spent 90% of the evening yesterday and the morning today being painfully uncomfortable and running to the bathroom. The last few hours have been me chasing pepto-bismol with ginger ale. I know this is way too much TMI. But when you can audibly hear your gut groan and double over I feel others should have a heads up. I might understand if I had gotten the food from their lunch buffet but we ordered from the menu. So there it is, I will avoid this place in the future at all costs. They get one star for remodeling and updating their decor both inside and outside. read more

Its good food and all, just this particular night, so i guess its too cold for a band to play outside but its probably in the 70's so its not even cold. We get seated quick for a reservation, usually its a wait even with a reservation, but we sit in and the band is just super loud and too loud to me at least to be playing inside with nowhere for the sound to travel except giving you an excruciating migraine which i have now, so it'll last till the end of the night. But like really? Playing inside super loud? You cant hear sh!t and even hear Yourself think. You gotta be better than that. Its friday night, nobody wants to have there ears blasted after a long week of work. Also it feels like im gonna break my teeth on the breads crust. Like what? Shouldnt be like that. read more

Good experience, first time to this place. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor , live music. We were looking for good coffee but they didn't have much specialty coffees. When you pull into the parking lot, the place appears to be kind of shall but once inside you realize that is actually pretty big inside. They have 2 inside areas as well as an outside deck area. We had the fried calamari as well as the brucsetta and both were great and the main courses were enormous. I would definitely go back and would definitely recommend it to others. read more

Cafe Michelangelo is a great little Italian place that is often overlooked. Some tasty pizza comes out of that brick oven, and their other pasta and entrees are delicious and pretty fairly priced - one of my favorites is the ravioli con salvia (cheese ravioli in a sage butter sauce). They serve great dessert as well. The restaurant rarely seems to be too crowded, so it's generally a nice and relaxing atmosphere in which to eat. They even have outdoor seating on a patio out back, right next to a bocce court - a cool, unique touch. Cafe Michelangelo is definitely a worthwhile choice if you're looking for an Italian meal from a place a little more intimate and authentic than one of the bigger chains. read more

We love the food and used to love the ambiance but today unfortunately we did not have a great experience. We are returning customers and today We were celebrating with our friends for our kids birthdays and the manager Jiuliano was very unprofessional to us. We were literally sitting in the corner / next to outside bar entrance where our kids were playing next to our table and a toy rolled near Juliano and he had the audacity to kick the toy back to the kids and to say for us to watch our kids and he wasn't running a day care! Maybe saying something like " hey can you keep your toys near you?" But day care really!? We were in shock with the scene that he made, so we asked for the bill because we then knew we were not welcome. As we paid our bill and were walking out, A few of the waiters ( a hefty bald male waiter and older lady with black hair ) were giving us looks and any person of color would know what that means. No restaurant is worth supporting if they can't be professional and treat everyone equally despite the color of one's skin. If you read their about us section - they claim to bring " Italian dining ( food, family, friends)" and "continues to grow and expand in order to bring our guests the highest quality food, service, and experience possible"..... well, looks like y'all have some work to do. read more
