The food and service are good, and I've been a regular customer. However, today I noticed that the portions are getting smaller. Instead of receiving two slices of toast with a $20 basic breakfast, they now only give one, as was evident during my visit. I understand that expenses are up, but I was shocked that they are now saving money by reducing the toast from two slices to one for a $20 breakfast. Thats just weird! New favorite. Came here late on a Sunday and enjoyed a delightful patio (sidewalk) brunch. Came back the following week, earlier in the day - late morning, no real good waiting area and no tables available. This community cafe has absolutely delicious food, huge portions, and terrific service. Mom loved it. Came back a week and a few days later with brother and he enjoyed it also. On the 1st visit, I ordered Greek Omelette and mom had Turkey Sandwich. On 2nd visit, I added chicken to the Greek and brother had Steak and Eggs special. Both visits cost me less than $30 for two people, and we left feeling SO full! Parking lot can range from empty to packed, depending on the other businesses and what major sport event is at the bar. Cafe Milan fits in with the rest of the local shops. There's nothing to draw me 50 miles away, but it'll serve its purpose while you're in the area. My girl friend Laura K and I got hungry for breakfast in the afternoon and made our way here. The server let us dine in even though he was closing in an hour. We sat outside to enjoy the afternoon weather. It was too dark inside with no lighting besides the sun. Parking lot is small. Next door is another restaurant and a hair salon. Upstairs is a doctor's office. I couldn't decide what I wanted..I got a sandwich from another customer's recommendation. He said the chef makes good sandwiches. I didn't realize the turkey avocado BLT was a triple layer. It came with soup or salad, so I had the chicken wild rice. The soup was greasy and tasted like the canned Progresso ones. I don't think I'd come back for this particular sandwich. Maybe their breakfast choices are better. Laura's breakfast burrito was stuffed! She liked that it wasn't a flour tortilla. She also liked that the ingredients tasted fresh. She got a side of fruit. We both were able to finish our food, so their portions are pretty good sized. Not too much food and not too little, good for a cafe. The server is a good barista. I enjoyed my espresso drink. Worst thing about this place: The. flies. were. so. annoying. Fresh off the plane, my first instinct was, 'I'm hungry!' So I jumped on my handy dandy yelp app and began my search! Cafe Milan came up and didn't seem that far from where we were. When we got there, no parking available in the front, so we ended up parking by the residential area. This cafe was not far from the beach at all so that was kind of nice. Secret little spot in Playa del Rey. I like that you can bring your pooch and eat with them in the patio. That's pretty cool. On to the food. I did what everyone else recommended and got their breakfast burrito. It was great. And it wasn't one of those burritos where they put too much cheese in it. It was the delicious kind. We also ordered their croissant sandwich. That was good too. The croissant was nice and buttery. This is a great spot. I will be back. I'm excited about trying other things on their menu. Luckily, Cafe Milan has a decent sized parking lot for you if you decide to come here for breakfast/brunch. There is plenty of patio seating so I suggest you capitalize on the nice breeze from the ocean. The service is pretty slow. When you order at the register, you don't get a number/receipt so how are they supposed to know what you ordered? There was one instance where one of the employees came up to us and asked if we ordered the frappuccino he was holding... For food, I got the sausage, ham and egg omelet with 2 pieces of toast and fruit. I thought the omelet was pretty standard, nothing too spectacular. The toast was pretty bad on the other hand. It didn't come out hot/warm and the butter couldn't even melt on my toast. My friend ordered the grilled chicken wrap and we were impressed with the portion size at first. There was plenty of chicken inside the wrap but it was d-r-y. No sauce to compliment the wrap and there were barely any avocados. There is a nice ambiance to this place with decent food. This little Hideaway is great. It looks like a locals only place, but I don't think it is since I usually see a lot of cops there. That's pretty cool. Today I got their ham, egg and bagel sandwich. It was great. The whole wheat bagel is so crispy on the outside. I just love it and it's usually piping hot when they serve it. Watch out! We came during a Saturday morning; a lot of cars are going in and out, so if you don't want to deal with street parking, just wait a few minutes. The place itself is a "walk up to order." Space/seating is limited, so if you have someone else with you, I would recommend grabbing a menu and then sitting down. Consolidate your order with one person and have that individual order everything. I split the blue berry pancakes and breakfast burrito. While the presentation was average, the taste was pretty good. I'd definitely take this place over iHop or Denny's. You'll spend about the same but have a better overall experience. This was my first visit! I was on my bike so first thing I looked for was bike parking. There isn't a dedicated space to lock your bike up. There are a couple sign poles out front but options are limited. I noticed that a couple other cyclists chose to simply leave their bike outside, unlocked. To each their own. I always lock my bike up. The outside is peppered with a handful of 2 tops and another hand full of tables to seat 4-6, some accompanied with bright red umbrellas for some nice shade to go with your sea breeze. Only minus I noted during this visit was that the garbage was a little potent so I did my best to sit further away from it. The inside is quaint with a collection of tables to choose from if you'd rather sit inside. The space inside is small so you'll be getting a little cozy with everyone else enjoying their meals/coffee/fresh juice. You order at the front counter, where you can also find their menus, and then go choose your seat and they'll bring it out to you. I chose to have the eggs and bacon with fresh fruit and went without the toast. The eggs and bacon were good. Nothing over the top, just plain old good bacon and eggs. The fruit, however, was amazing. It was perfectly ripe and fresh. I could have eaten just the fruit and been satisfied. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and will be back. Hopefully next time I won't be on a diet so I can try the pancakes I saw people eating. They looked yummy!. read more

This small cafe doesn't seem to have any real connection to its Italian namesake, but does offer traditional American breakfast options and small cafe sandwiches all day. It was surprising how popular the tiny restaurant was. We walked over on Sunday for a late lunch. I asked for a recommendation from the guy at the counter and he suggested the Turkey and Avocado Sandwich. You can choose your bread so I went with Sourdough. It comes with a small side salad (my choice) or a bag of chips. The sandwich was filling, but nothing really special. Olivia got an Ice Coffee (with 1 free refill) while I opted for one of the bottle drinks. The cashier who rang us up was kinda sassy and a bit intrusive, he even pointed out that I was late to meet my friends... Okay? Thanks, like that's any of your business. But, you know what-- I brushed it off because poor guy was working in an oven! He was probably flustered & upset that he had to work on a Saturday inside that non-ventilated establishment. (Yes, we had to eat outside!) It's an "order and pay at the register cafe", so a waiter takes your meal to your table. The waiter was deff nicer than the cashier. Best smoked salmon bagel lox I've ever had. Solid bagels, nice cream cheese, and super fresh flavorful tomatoes, onions, salmon, and capers. They pile the salmon high, which I love. Squeeze some lemon on there- mmm delicious. It will fill you up. I've only sampled their other dishes but it was really good. It's a great little hole in the wall cafe. They have a good variety of options, including whole wheat pancakes, french toast, breakfast burritos, and additional toppings you can add to your dish. They also have some pastries and I think they had one that looked like cream puffs that looked delicious... Seating is limited, but they do offer indoor and outdoor seating. This review pertains to their breakfast only Every time my gf and I visit LA we stay in Playa Del Rey, and we always come back to this place for a hearty breakfast. Having been here twice I have to say their consistency with their food is top notch. Most recently when we visited I ordered a California omelette with orange juice and my girlfriend ordered an egg white omelette with basil, tomato and garlic with an iced coffee. The California omelette contains mushrooms, onions, spinach and cheese topped with avocados. For their omelette's you get a choice of potatoes or fruits and wheat, white, or sourdough toast. I went for the potatoes and wheat toast. You get a lot of food and it is definitely worth every penny. The omelette is cooked to perfection and every bite tastes better and better. Their avocados are also very fresh. I am from VA so I guess by the time the avocados get there it loses some freshness. My gf also thoroughly enjoyed her food. I have to say the amount of iced coffee they give you is pretty large compared to most other places. Although it is large it is very good. Now as far as the ambiance of this place goes, it seems like a lot of the people who visit this establishment are frequent guests. Everyone knew each other and this made it feel very "homey". They have a good amount of seating inside and outside. If I was Cali local and lived nearby I would frequent this place often too.
