Fresh local ingredients are a staple at this award winning cafe (we saw the article on their website and FB page!). We missed the long list of specials on the board so be sure to check it out before ordering. So many tempting choices we are going to try to hit this place again on our trip home next weekend. Really great spot near Lake Minnewaska and Mohonk. Came with 4 people for brunch on Sunday around 11 and only had a 20 min wait. Decor is very average/diner but has a fun vibe. Coffee was ok, nothing special but they have a good selection of teas. Favorites were the corn beef hash (good quality shredded meat, big portion), huevos rancheros, seasonal French toast (apple cinnamon with fresh whipped cream - really really tasty apple compote, not too sweet), and the goat cheese and spinach omelette. I seriously feel like this is the best breakfast and lunch dining experience in the Hudson valley! OK.... to be fair I haven't checked out EVERY breakfast and lunch joint in the Hudson valley, but for me personally Café Mio is number one. I've never had a bad experience here, the food is always wonderful and I love that he uses ingredients from many local farms and purveyors. Even most of the beer and wine is local. There is usually always a wait for a table, especially if you come on the weekend. It is rather small inside but they do have some counter seating available so if you are by yourself or a party of two, that's a great option (assuming that's not filled to capacity as well). You can watch Mike and his staff working hard to prepare all the orders from just about any seat in the house. There is always local artwork hanging on the walls - Hey.....if you're a local artist you might want to inquire about what the deal is with that. If you're in Gardiner and want a bite save your pennies and come here. Everything here is gourmet and the ambiance is great as well. I mean come on, BANANA & Bacon French toast. I was really disappointed with Cafe Mio. I had high hopes! First of all, the menu was pretty sparse and not particularly inviting. The lighting was poor and made you feel cold, which made me want to eat something warm. I had the pear and brie panini with balsamic vinegar. The bread it came on was extremely dry and should not be used for a panini; at the very least, it should have been buttered. The sandwich itself was bland and mushy. There was no crunch! Just soft and clear pears with melted brie. What's worse was that the balsamic vinegar was on the OUTSIDE of the sandwich, so, when you pick it up, your hands get nice and sticky. Nice touch! The salad greens the sandwich came on had noticeable holes from insects eating through it. Alright, I'm not sure if this is a plus or a minus-- it means they use pesticide free produce! Right? Date had a pulled pork sandwich which was okay, but nothing special. Once again, the bread was very dry. Another thing was that they up-charge $1 for french fries. Why? I realize the potatoes are local, but they are potatoes nonetheless. I just think that kind of thing is pretty tacky. Other reviewers mentioned the excellent service. The server never checked on us during our meal, and when we asked about dessert, she only rattled them off without describing them. We would have asked for more details, but she still had dirty plates in her hand from another table and had to put them down. It's not her fault if the restaurant is not printing up menus in the hope having that the servers describe the desserts will sell them, but they have to describe them first for that to work. Further, we overheard said server mess up another patron's order, which happens! Bad day! But, instead of acknowledging the mistake or offering to fix it, she let the customer blame the mistake on himself, out of politeness. It IS nice that they list all the farms on the back of the menu of where they get their food. Considering that, just go straight to the farm stand and make your own sandwich next time. read more

This place used to be amazing. I ate here 3-4 times a week for two years. I have a feeling they've changed management because in the past three months: -I have found a hair in my food on TWO separate occasions -they were repeatedly out of ice on hot summer days. This seems like something easy to avoid -a friend of mine had a plastic to-go bag thrown at them when they were picking up their food -the people I've dealt with on the phone/the hostess on different occasions were remarkably rude I don't know what happened at this place, but I don't go here anymore and I never recommend this place to anyone anymore. Very cute place to have breakfast. Small place opened for breakfast and lunch. We sat down right away. It was a little cold in there. The kitchen is right there so you can see them cooking. The waitress came right over took our coffee orders. My girl had the forest ham and white cheddar omelet. I had the corn beef hash with two poached eggs. Amazing! It was served with two slices of thick sour dough bread. They had classic rock playing on the background. The coffee was great. The service was great. Just needed to turn up the heat a little. It was 20 degrees that morning. The price was right and the food was so fresh. The eggs were like farm fresh and the corned beef hash was fresh not canned. I would go there again if I am in the area. Did the "Love Day Special", started off w/a mimosa, app was the duck prosciutto salad, entree was sweet potato beet hash with free range eggs over easy, (done to perfection) and of course dark chocolate covered strawberries. My absolute favorite breakfast place ever! The Mio breakfast is perfection. Fabulous salad delicious home fries. Fluffy delicious eggs. Melt in your mouth bacon and yummy toast for around 10$! Often crowded which is a good sign. In the spring and summer I live to eat here and then go down the road and watch the skydivers land at the ranch. It's a real shame their customer service is terrible because the food is good. I literally stood in the doorway for 15 minutes with several other parties and no one came over. They just pretended like we weren't even there. And there were a good amount of people working. Goes to show that no Matter how good your food is, customer service is a way bigger deal. I'm super disappointed. Whoever is running this business needs to invest in a hostess. And they should allow people to make reservations. I will say that by default I love any place that serves decent food and is within walking distance of the dropzone. The only server I have had there is a skydiver, so that's always a plus.
