We came in on a busy Friday and were accommodated. I suggest making a reservation on a weekend. The hostess greeted us and asked how we were doing. The server Keyla did apologize for the time it took to get to us. She was attentive and friendly. All of the servers were busy and hustling to take care of tables. I got the sauerbraten and it was ok. The meat was tender but a bit dry, and the gravy, while pretty good, needed a little more punch of flavor. The German red cabbage was delicious and the potato dumplings were done well, though a bit dense for my personal taste. Next time I will try the spaetzle. The salad dressing, the house vinaigrette, was SO delicious and was my favorite part of the meal. It was like a tangy sweet and sour flavor. The bread that came with the meal was crusty and warm. My friend had the jaeger schnitzel, and I tried it. I don't like pork or mushrooms but wow! It was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and the gravy was creamy and tasted from scratch. Portions were plentiful, and the dessert choices were tempting, so we took some home. There was an accordion player providing entertainment, and he played traditional and popular culture tunes. My boyfriend's father was in the military and lived in Germany for some time. In fact, my boyfriend's sister was born there. So when we drove passed Cafe Old Vienna one evening, my boyfriend's father was super excited by the prospect of having dinner there, during our vacation. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty excited, too. I mean, my last name is Bayer, because my people come from the Bayern region of Germany. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel. I find Myrtle Beach to be very walkable, though sometimes sidewalk disappear and I had to take the scenic route in my chair. Our waitress, Angel, was amazing. She was personable and informative. She made sure that we had everything that we needed, refills, etc. I do feel a bit sad that we did not experience the accordion player. I feel like that would have been hilarious. There were six of us at dinner, and we had the best time sharing all of our food. "Taste this!" was one of the most repeated sentence during our meal, as we passed plates and held out forkfuls of food to each other. Everything was amazing. As appetizers we had: Potato Pancakes - Homemade potato pancakes served with tomato-cucumber salad and choice of sour cream or apple sauce. Not vegetarian. (My Polish grandmother used to make potato pancakes, and reigned supreme in my estimation, UNTIL THESE. Good gosh, incredible!) The Sausage Sampler Platter - Bratwurst, Bockwurst, Knackwurst, Weisswurst with two soft pretzel sticks, with an assortment of mustards. (Don't ask me which wurst was which, but they were all great.) And all of our meals came with a side salad. The house dressing is a honey mustard type thing that I wish I had remembered they sell it in bottles, because it was so very tasty. You do get to choose your dressing, but if you don't pick the house dressing, you are doing yourself a disservice. For my meal I had Stuffed Cabbage - Stuffed cabbage 2 pieces, filled with beef and rice, served over homemade tomato-bell pepper sauce (mild, not spicy). I had spaetzle for the first time ever and will definitely have to have it again some time in my life. This cannot be the only time I eat something so delicious. Stuffed cabbage is one of my most favorite things in the world and these did not disappoint. My boyfriend had Grilled Pork Belly (Grilled pork belly served over brown gravy with potato dumplings and sauerkraut.) He didn't like the potato dumplings. They were kinda like huge gnocchi. I ate his sauerkraut and it was superb. The pork belly was so tender and savory and definitely worth ordering. Dad had Veal-Jager Schnitzel - Tender veal cutlet, breaded and served over homemade mushroom, gravy served with potato dumplings or spaetzle and red cabbage. (He was over the moon. He said it was very much like what he had eaten in Germany. And they're not kidding when they say "tender.") AND the Viennese Gulasch - Beef stew in Hungarian paprika sauce (At this point he was so stuffed that he couldn't finish it, but he definitely enjoyed it.) The 11-year-old had the Pork Schnitzel. He's not an adventurous eater, but he liked this. We all left feeling like human stuffed cabbages. We could not have fit one more bite into our bellies. It was a delightful dinner. I came here October 9 , 2021 and just realized I didn't do a review . Well , I make it to Myrtle Beach about every 2 years from Las Vegas , Nevada . I grew up in the Carolinas and love to come back and visit . I was in the military and was stationed in Germany for 4 years , 1985 to 1989 , so I love a good German Restaurant . I really liked this one and will definitely come back . Good food , good decor , good service , and live music . I had the Farmers Schnitzel which is a Breaded Pork Weiner Schnitzel with brown gravy and a sunny side up egg on top and capers with Spatzle and Red Cabbage . I had a good German Beer , but I can't remember which one I got . The service was very good and they even had an older gentleman playing the accordion on stage , playing tradition German Music . The place was decorated like different regions of Germany combined and the feeling of being at Octoberfest . The waitresses and waiters were dressed in traditional festival clothing which was a nice touch . They even had a beer garden outside celebrating Octoberfest . We have been wanting to eat here on our December visit for a few years. I was excited that they were open the same day we arrived in Myrtle Beach. We made reservations and were sat a big table right away. Our waitress Nelli was awesome. She was super friendly and took great care of us. We started with the pretzel and cheese dip. Both were excellent. Our meals came with fresh bread and salad. The house dressing is sweet and tangy. It was the perfect starter before the heavy entree. I had the veal jager schnitzel with Spätzle. Both items tasted like my time in Germany. The veal was crisp and the sauce had a ton of flavor. The cabbage was the perfect side dish. Oh Cafe Old Vienna. I hate that my rating for you keeps dropping. We arrived just before dinner service was to start and waited about 10 mins before our server came to take our order. A 10 minute wait while 4 servers stood around chatting. I will give a smidgen of a star back because our server was not one of those standing around and seemed to be the only one working. Your only saving grace from me not giving you a lower rating is that the food was as good as ever. The German Feast for 2 is always the way to go in my opinion as you not only have dinner at the restaurant but you have lunch/dinner for the next day. I also appreciate that you can double up on the sides if there are ones that you don't care for as much. While I still recommend you to people I know that will be visiting, it is getting harder recommending you when there are so many service issues. After this visit, I'll have to think longer before I do recommend you to others in the future. read more

Loved this place. I've been wanting to try it for years and never could figure out a way to convince everyone. Today was the day. They have a great beer garden and we ate outside because my little pup was with us. The staff was super friendly and shared ideas about what to order. This was our 2nd trip to Cafe Old Vienna and for sure this will be a stop every time we visit Myrtle Beach! We had sauerbraten and schnitzel and both dishes were spot on. The spetzel and potato pancakes were also wonderful. They have a great selection of German and Austrian beer and this time a tried a dark Austrian lager, very good. Nice desert selection, but not sure how you could have room for one. The service was quick and efficient and the server could answer all our questions. There is a guy playing German music there, loud enough to enjoy, but not too loud. One point of note: make a reservation since it's not a large restaurant and fills up quickly. read more

Jeff was an amazing server, very personable, and didn't even give me a second to finish my coke before he was at the table with a refill! (Love to see it!) I could talk about the vibes of the place, how authentic it feels when you walk in, and how great the service is...but the food is so good, it doesn't even matter! If you're lucky enough to come for the Ossobuco Special, don't hesitate to order it! It was the best dish I have EVER. tasted. in. my. LIFE. I feel grateful for even eating here. Jaeger schnitzel was very tasty and great portion but the sides left a bit to be desired and there was some confusion on my part about what was included with the dish. I was eating at the bar and didn't want to bother the bartender as it was a very busy Friday night. Not a huge deal, I still got plenty of food. The most exciting part of my dining experience was the apple strudel. It's an expensive dessert, but even if you are full I recommend it 100%. It is very special. The atmosphere is very boisterous and I enjoyed the accordionist but would prefer to return for lunch when it's a little more subdued. read more

It's kind of a quirky restaurant with a unique sort of Bavarian charm. The food was very good, so good we returned to eat there again the next day. I think we were probably a bigger fan of a few of the (grilled) fish dishes because we try to eat healthier. The fish dish with the tomatoes and peppers, grouper, and flounder was outstanding.
