Being the son of a German chef who was born and raised in München, I have very high standards for good German food. While visiting Myrtle Beach on vacation my wife and I were excited to see Café old Vienna was just blocks from our hotel. We thought let's try and see how this place measures up. My wife ordered the chicken schnitzel and was sadly disappointed when it came out. We were expecting a juicy, delicious schnitzel like Oma used to make but instead got a dried flavorless breaded chicken cutlet. I ordered the pork Cordon Bleu and was also disappointed. The Swiss cheese and ham filling was delicious but again the pork schnitzel cutlets did not measure up. They were dry and lacking the usual fluffy delicious breading that one would expect from a traditional German schnitzel. The side dishes on the other met our expectations. I had the spatzle with gravy and it was exactly the way I remembered eating it in Germany. The fried potatoes were cooked to perfection but unfortunately did not come with bacon and onions like a traditional fried potato recipe. The potato salad was good with the vinegar base but we both said it had something lacking from the flavor that would've made it perfect. We were really excited to try the apple strudel and German chocolate cake but after the mediocre dinner we had we opted for desert elsewhere. If you don't know much about good German food and think it's all about servers in dirndls and lederhosen serving bratwurst and beer this may be your spot, but if you want a true German meal you may want to go elsewhere. read more

Had an outside beer garden which was great for us since we do not eat inside with the covid virus still around. We know good german food. The schnitzels are great and you can tell its authentic by the sides. I had red cabbage. Delicious. Not just opened from a can and heated up. Appeared to be made from scratch and excellent tasting. Tried the apple strudel and was so good. Great crust, not just a lot of sugar and fake tasting. Good old home made tasting. You wont be disappointed if you know good german food. read more

Went here for lunch on our vacation after seeing it advertised on Beach TV. The restaurant is cozy and decorated well. Service was fast and friendly. Servers are dressed in Bavarian clothes. I had Jaeger Schnitzel, my friends had pierogis and liver with onions. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We will definitely be back and will hopefully save room for one of their delicious looking desserts. read more

Oh my goodness so glad we went here! Best potato salad I ever had, potatoes tasted like they were just cooked this morning and the sauce had a vinegar tang. The Wiener schnitzel was excellent, and the spaetzel with gravy was delicious too. It was all so good and the lunch menu portion was so big I can't imagine what dinner is like. We took our one year old and he ate just about everything we did, and we had to take the spaetzel away! We were here on vacation and decided to stop in based on the ratings and we were not disappointed!! The service was amazing. All the staff was so attentive, friendly and happy. The food - oh em gee - it was amazing. I am not usually a fan of schnitzel so I got the fish and chips and it was amazing. My boyfriend got almond schnitzel and loved his dinner. I took my parents here for lunch, and oh my goodness was it good! My father is notoriously hard to please, and even he enjoyed his Bratwurst and Sauerkraut -- saying both had very good flavor. My Hunter's Schnitzel was excellent, served with spaetzle and vegetables, and the brown gravy was authentically delicious. My mother thoroughly enjoyed her schnitzel sandwich, but she admittedly was only there for the dessert! Speaking of which! Great place! Last year when we visited MB, they were still closed for their winter vacation. This year, the calendar was such that we could dine here on their first night back open. So glad! The food is incredible and the service by Jeff impeccable, fast and friendly without being intrusive. My sister and I had the 3-course prix fixe menu which included delicious butternut squash soup, tender and tasty pork schnitzel with spätzle and red cabbage, and yummy apple strudel. My husband had the "farmer" schnitzel, which is topped with a fried egg; he loved it, as well as the coconut cake he had for dessert. For appetizers we shared stupendous potato pancakes and pork belly with garlic sauce which could become addictive if we lived nearby. We really hope we get an opportunity to visit again. Good food. We enjoyed our meal. The bread served before dinner was soft and warm. We had potato pancakes as an appetizer and they were different than others we've had. They had a pinch of bacon that gave them a nice flavor. Our meals were served with a nice salad and we all like the house honey mustard dressing. The spetzle was excellent and obviously homemade. My teens appreciated that an option for a side dish was a hot pretzel. I enjoyed my (veal) jaeger schnitzel though the sauce was not Plentiful enough. Hubby enjoyed the sauerbraten which was outstanding. Desserts looked amazing, but we were too stuffed to indulge. Kinda odd that they asked to photograph each group and sell you pictures for $15, but I guess maximizing daily profits is key. All in all, a good choice for a hearty meal. read more

This is my second night here this week. The first dinner was exceptional. Tonight's was good. Had I stopped after one night it would have been 5 stars. The first meal was the Sauerbraten special. A small salad, Two very nice size pieces of meat, red cabbage, and spätzle. The meat was properly sour in that very good way with a rich brown gravy. The spätzle and red cabbage were not just sides but stars in their own right. I washed it down with a short Warsteiner. and finished it with the banana fosters cake. I'm not a huge dessert eater but the cake was very satisfying and not overly sweet. The second night I had the Platter for one. Jaeger Schnitzel, knockwurst, bratwurst, red cabbage, spätzle, and potatoes. The potatoes were average, but the rest of the dish was very good. The schnitzel and the knockwurst were standouts. The wurst was grilled just enough to put a bit of sear on them. Tonight's beer was an Austrian Hirter Dark. A new one for me, which will be put in my rotation if i can find it. The sweet was crepes filled with Nutella and vanilla ice cream. A great combination. I sat at the bar both nights. The bartender was a wonderful young woman named Marina. She knew the menu well, was able to discuss the various beer options, and was very attentive to each diner. They were better before they moved to the new location. The spatzle was not homemade, chewy and not fresh, if you like fresh German/Austrian food, we did not experience this. The service was good, but they rushed our meal and evening. I hate it when servers are always hovering ready to take your plate. They charged us for the wrong beer and no apologies from the server. I chose this restaurant because we were seeing friends that we hadn't seen in years. The Old Vienna advertised they were having an Octoberfest menu with music. We had a 7 o'clock reservation for the four of us and were seated were seated quickly. They were very crowed and busy. We ordered drinks, chose our dinners and after a while our waiter brought us our salads. The greens were room temperature as if the plates were sitting out waiting to have a cold dressing put over it. The waiter came back only to check on drinks, he asked how we were doing and we said hungry, he left and came by and said "3 more checks" and kept going. Finally my husband stopped a passing waitress to say we have been waiting over an hour to be served. She said she would find our waiter and tell him. She came back and said it will be coming shortly, let me refill your drinks. I told that to mean we were being "comped" for waiting so long. Dinner came out finally, Our Wiener schnitzel was chewy and the Spatzel was fair. Our friend did enjoy his Oreo Buco. When the check came we saw we were not comped for the extra glass of wine. Oh and there was no music. Basically we felt it was not worth what we paid and we won't be going back or recommending this restaurant. Totally brought me back to the German food my father made me as a child. On a Wednesday night when everything else was pretty slow in Myrtle Beach Café old Vienna was busy. At first our server (Peter) was a little slow at coming over to us but once he took our initial order and brought our drinks he was amazingly attentive. The salad and bread were fresh and delicious. The entree portion sizes were huge. My husband truly enjoyed his bratwurst while I enjoyed my Jager schnitzel and spaetzel. We were too stuffed to have desert even though they all sounded great. It should be noted that my family has dined at Cafe Old Vienna many times over the past several years, dating back to when they were in their smaller location on the northern end of Myrtle Beach. The food and service have always been great, however on our most recent visit, there was a situation involving the restaurant's owner that I can't allow to pass due to his actions both on that day and after the fact. On May 7, my family went to Cafe Old Vienna in celebration of two birthdays (my girlfriend and my mother) as well as Mother's Day. As usual, the service and the food were excellent. On our way out of the restaurant, however, there was a vehicle parked in the "No Parking" zone directly adjacent to the handicapped accessible parking. It's important to note that I have not one but two family members who have a physical handicap, one of which is my 90-year old great-grandmother. Because this vehicle was parked in the "No Parking" zone, we were forced to move our vehicle from the handicapped parking space and block the restaurant's sole driveway while loading my great-grandmother into the car. I went back inside the restaurant to inform them that there was someone parked in that zone and was told by the hostess, "Oh, well, we use that for extra handicapped parking if we get too busy." I was willing to accept that explanation - after all, the restaurant has posted an "Authorized Parking Only" sign at the front of the zone. However, the vehicle in that spot did not have a handicapped placard, nor did it have a handicapped license plate. When I returned to the restaurant to inform the hostess of this, she told me, "Oh, I meant to tell you - that's the boss' car." As though that was supposed to make me feel better about the matter. When I attempted to inform her that it would not be legal for "the boss" to park there if it were an actual handicapped spot, and it certainly was not legal for "the boss" to park there when it is clearly lined as a "No Parking" zone - she simply stared at me and walked away before I could finish my sentence. After speaking with MBPD traffic enforcement to confirm that it is, in fact, illegal for them to be using this space for parking even with the "Authorized Parking Only" sign, I asked that no formal complaint be filed, but that a traffic officer be sent to educate the owner that they were in the wrong. This should have been the end of the story; sadly, it is not. After reading a two-star review posted on their Facebook page by my mother, the owner of Cafe Old Vienna responded with a smarmy meme about "When a rude customer says they are never coming back" along with a photo of their "Authorized Parking Only" sign. My family was not rude during our visit - we spent nearly $185 on our meal and tipped above 20%. I was not rude to the hostess regarding the parking issue, and when I attempted to explain that it was illegal, I was brushed off. The real kicker of the story is that, because my grandmother had previously signed up to be on Cafe Old Vienna's mailing list, the owner had her phone number - WHICH HE USED TO CALL HER TWICE on May 10 to harass her about my mother's negative Facebook review. Because of the owner's actions, I will no longer allow this situation to pass without some sort of fight or without informing people that they should never patronize this business again. My family is many things, but rude and inconsiderate to others (ESPECIALLY those in the service industry) is not one of them. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and again would implore everyone reading this to never patronize a business with such a classless, rude, and inconsiderate owner ever again. read more

This was a really nice surprise. I found this on yelp and thought this sounds like a nice place. It was so much more. Walking in, you see the waiters and serving women wearing official German and Austrian outfits. This was different, BUT the food and beer were exceptional. I shared a two person meal of knockwurst, sausage and fried chicken breast, saurkraut, red cabbage, potatoes and spatzle. We both were full and had to take some of the sides home. We each had a 16 oz beer, which we were allowed to taste a couple before choosing one. I will not have time to return to eat here again, but if I find myself here again, this will be visited again. If you are interested in an authentic German/Austrian meal, or just want the satisfaction of fresh made, quality food, this is a good choice. The goulash, trout and schnitzel were very well made. Service was very friendly and efficient. They were out of Sauer Braten when we visited, but promised to have it back on the menu and serve to us for lunch on Tuesday when they reopened. This is apparently their signature dish. Nice selection of quality German lagers on draft to complement the meal. No your touristy, kitchy Myrtle Beach joint, but a very well maintained, quality restaurant that we will revisit with every trip we make to MB. read more
