I have been to Cafe Raymond several times with no issues at all except the price. I returned Saturday for breakfast and was very disappointed. First, I asked for decaf coffee and was told they only have black coffee! I then ordered a veggie omelet and asked for cheese to be added. I was served a plain cheese omelet. When I asked, they said I would have had to specify what veggies I wanted. The menu clearly has a veggie omelet as an item with the veggies listed that were in it. I also asked if it came with potatoes and was then given 2 servings that I was charged for. All of this for $30! To add to the experience, when we entered, there was a sign that said to ask about our homemade soups..... we did and were told they don't have any soup! It will take a lot for me to go back. This was a nice little place in the Strip District we stopped by while visiting Pittsburgh. It came highly recommended by a friend from the area who was able to join us for this brunch. We had to wait about 45 minutes on a Sunday, but it was worth it. They text you when your table is ready, so I recommend walking around to do some shopping while you wait for your table. We got seated upstairs, which was pretty spacious and less noisy, but still very eclectically decorated and comfortable. The food we ordered came out pretty quickly and was outstanding all around. The omelette was perfectly prepared and the home fries were uniquely cooked and very well seasoned. The blueberry ricotta pancakes were a big hit with our group. We were looking for a new spot to grab brunch today. We saw the good reviews for Cafe Raymond and finally decided to try it. We've walked past in numerous times in the past while shopping in the Strip District. We walked in about 1:30pm and were seated after a few minutes. There is seating both upstairs (including a balcony over the Strip and on the main floor. We were perusing the menu for several minutes before being greeted by our server who brought us a water bottle but no glasses. He promptly took our drink order as well as our food order. We sat chatting, waiting for our water glasses, coffee and soft drink. We waited and waited and never received our drinks. Our food was really fast to come out, in fact it beat our drinks. We asked the food runner if she could get us the glasses and drinks as they still never arrived. She apologized profusely and quickly got our drinks. Our server never did acknowledge that he never brought us the drinks. I ordered the guy's breakfast which was a nice sampling of their breakfast items. It came with two eggs any style (I chose over easy), a blueberry ricotta pancake (I skipped the whipped cream), potatoes and a choice of breakfast meat (I chose sausage). I really enjoyed my food. My wife ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich which featured eggs any style, cheese and choice of meat, as well as a side of potatoes. She decided to choose sausage on her sandwich. She enjoyed it and I tried a bite and liked it as well. I probably will order that next visit but will swap the sausage for bacon. We both agreed the big chunky potatoes were very good, nice amount of spices on them and cooked crispy outside and soft inside. The place was very clean, had an open kitchen and a nice bar area you could sit at as well. Towards the end of our meal my wife's beverage had been empty for quite a while. Our server visited the tables on either side of us but seemed to turn their back to us each time. Finally my wife had to yell for him as he walked away yet again to ask for another drink and a container for her food. They both were brought quickly but the drink was not what she had been drinking. When our check was delivered my wife told the server that in case he wondered, she didn't drink her beverage as it was not what she had ordered. I found it odd that they never said oh I am so sorry, I'll go correct it, would you like it in a to go cup? Nope they just said sorry and walked away after we paid. This place is hyped up tremendously and everyone who has told me to go has been for the same thing. The blueberry ricotta pancakes alone. They are the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. Now the filling of them could be more but when you do get the filling you'll be rocked. They make their own syrup and it was awesome. I had a great first visit to Café Raymond. Since I am often in the strip, and I've been wanting to check it out for a long time. We received a friendly service. I ordered the eggs, toast, home fries & bacon breakfast. I think it was the first option on the right side of the menu. The breakfast was absolutely perfect & really hit the spot. Every item was amazing, especially the eggs they were fluffy and cooked perfectly. I love my eggs. The bacon was crisp and delicious and the potatoes had a perfect amount of seasoning on them. I was looking for a Breakfast sandwich ... and I found it! During my brief visit to Pittsburgh, I took a short walk from my hotel to the Strip District looking for a breakfast sandwich. Arrived yesterday @ 10:15am and there was a small wait. The space is large with an upstairs level too and they pack 'em in. Manager was on his game taking names and getting folks sat as quick as possible. The wait was about 20 minutes. Sat and had coffee in hand super quick. Very friendly (and energetic) waitress taking great care of us the entire time. After we ordered, we did wait at least 20 additional minutes to receive our meals. It may have been slightly longer but everything arrived super hot and fresh. I had Guy's breakfast (eggs, choice of meat, potatoes and a blueberry ricotta pancake. Eggs were cooked well and the pancake was heavenly. So fluffy and a good amount of large blueberries. Sausage patty was a bit tough. Not my fave. Coffee was pretty strong (Commonplace). Don't be in a rush coming here if busy. They do have you settle up right at your table so that helps keep things flowing. Parking can be a challenge in the Strip District. I had brunch on a recent Saturday morning at Cafe Raymond. It's one of my favorite places when I'm in the strip district, which isn't as often as I used to. This last time the food was as good as always. However, the waitress seemed very frazzled. Maybe this is a new change, or she was overwhelmed that morning or it's just the holidays. Regardless, the waitress seemed very stressed and was even rude when I told her she gave me the wrong check. She showed me on her handheld payment machine that she was charging the correct amount and I swiped my card for payment. As I was leaving, I kept bumping into the host who was trying to get his book and seat the next diners, who were taking up space in the front of the restaurant where tables used to be. l've been wanting to try Cafe Raymond for a while now and I finally had the opportunity to do last week! I decided to go with Guy's breakfast, and had scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes, and a blueberry ricotta pancake served with maple syrup. This was a nice sampling of everything, but the standout was definitely the pancake. Thick, fluffy and a bunch of whole blueberries throughout, this pancake was delicious. You first line up and decide on what to order, you order and pay at the register and then they give you a table number. Once your food is done, they bring it to your table and if you wanted something additional, they have a QR code at the table to order online straight to your table. We spoke to a lady who was also on line to order food and she recommended the blueberry ricotta pancakes -- till this day I will NEVER forget the first bite. My friends and I went for brunch. We both ordered the salmon and lox sandwich. They brought out one plate first and the second plate 5 minutes later. I've had the sandwich before about a year ago and it was very good. Since that time they have shrinkflated it. There was very little salmon in the sand which, the ciabatta bread was subpar, and the whole sandwich was bland in general. My friend ate about 2/3 of the first half of the sandwich and asked if I wanted to take the second half home because she disliked it so much she wasn't going to eat it.. Really did enjoy this place. Like the environment. Food was good. If there was anything, just a small, thing that their potatoes had a touch too much pepper but that's fine. Where they lost a star for me, was that they only had bottled water and it was 3 bucks. No tap water or fountain. I had a coffee but wanted just a sip of water and just think it is odd and not right that i have you buy a bottle of water. Again, this is my personal belief. Sure that there are others that feel the other way, or that businesses are looking to generate revenue. We sat up front and there were people waiting for a table and they were not all that respectful and courteous - being loud and standing right behind me. Cafe Raymond was a great (unexpected) find. Total disclosure: we had planned two other options that didn't work out and were a little disappointed as we walked into Cafe Raymond. BUT THEN. You know these stories, right?!?!? Being unexpectedly pleased and surprised - well, it's the best. We ordered, paid, found an open table and just a bit later were enjoying a late breakfast - Lox for me and a burger for him. What we liked: The food! It was delicious, large portions, fresh, well seasoned and surprising (in all the good ways). The staff. Super friendly, anticipated our needs before we asked (so very nice) and very mellow. What was interesting: No prices anywhere. Maybe I missed a QR code with a menu that offered prices. Not a big deal, but for some, this may be off-putting. Seated seems limited until we spied an elevator that randomly dumped groups of folks into our small space. Maybe I was off that Sunday, but I didn't see any signage for other seating. After having a brief conversation about the importance of eating a unique burger at this well-located spot in the revitalized Strip District, restaurant staff kindly reminded me of how I came a long way for a special burger. They were right. The egg on the cheddar cheese burger was just what I needed to make an old burger unique. As I was getting ready to devour my food, the staff member told me that mustard would cost .80 (?!). I proceeded to reach in my wallet and exchange cash with him prior to eating my burger. I hate to be small about it, but paying for condiments that you can get for free any restaurant, seemed to change the taste of the food. Don't get me wrong. The burger was amazing. - fresh ground beef -perfectly cooked egg -toasted bun -ok potato's But damn, I hope the owner can explain why they charge for condiments. I had to go back East recently and the one thing about me is I get into the groove of I need to go to x and x because I love their food. The other thing about me is, I'm always open to new spots. At home that's my mantra. We get there earlier so we didn't have a wait. I can see if you're later morning type, you will wait probably. It's a very colorful space and I think it's just the right size venue. Although they may want to think of expanding. I see them growing. There are a few cocktails in the fridge that you can pick up while your in line to order. There is no bar service. Otherwise you can also order coffee and water at the register. You do order everything at the register along with any cocktails you grabbed out of the fridge. Once you order you're given a number that's on a table and that's your seat. I didn't pay attention to seating options but I think mostly two and four top tables. Let's talk food because it's too good not to. Going in I had been wanting pancakes lately but nothing to crave hungry. I was trying to choose between two options both were very different food wise. The House Brisket Hash or Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes. In those times I ask the staff and I saw she was torn because she seemed to like both. Ultimately the pancakes were the recommendation and what I ordered. The food all came quickly and was presented very well. These pancakes were made with fresh blueberries and not in that way where they taste like you're eating fruit separately. They blended together with the pancakes and made for a great flavor. Add in the fresh maple syrup and it was all deliciously filling. The Pineapple mule cocktail was a good add for that fruity cap on the blueberries. Try this place and enjoy. Came in around 11am on a Saturday. The cashier was super friendly. They only have half and half for creamer options. I wasn't allowed to order a croissant unless it was the croissant sandwich on the menu. I ordered an OJ and they were out. Food came. Very underwhelming. I did see servers dropping mimosas off to a table with what looked to be like orange juice in them. With so many food options in the Strip District don't go here. This is my favorite lunch in the city! I order at least once a week! It used to be a small little Cafe in the strip that always had an amazing tuna nicoise salad! When they moved to a bigger space a few years ago it only got better! My favorite thing on the menu is the roasted vegetable wrap. I sub fresh mozzarella for feta. I love the fresh portobello mushroom, red peppers, zucchini, squash and eggplant! It comes with the most delicious potatoes and a homemade pickle. My boyfriend is obsessed with the baked Italian sandwich. Their breads are homemade too!
