The combination of single-use items and reusables was confusing to me and in trying to reduce waste, I asked several questions... which weren't not answered in the friendly manner. I have been to cafe Raymond a few times over the past few years. The most recent time I was with three other friends, and we were lucky and got seated immediately at noon on a Sunday. I will say that cafe Raymond is certainly short staffed. They did not have enough people serving/cooking, and our waitress was running around the whole time to other tables both upstairs and downstairs. We ended up placing our orders in and waiting about an hour for the food, while the table next to us (who came after) got their food before us. We were very hungry so it was frustrating. The food itself was good. I got the chicken quinoa bowl. It was tasty and a nice portion; a good choice if you want something filling. My friend and I also split the pumpkin pancakes (seasonal), which were a bit disappointing. I'd describe them as kind of bland and mushy. I know their lemon ricotta pancakes are famous, so maybe I should've gotten those. However, the hazelnut cold brew drink was super tasty and probably my favorite part! In the end our waitress offered us free coffees but we declined as we just wanted to wrap up. It was a nice gesture and she seemed like a sweet girl. :) I would still sort of recommend this place if you want brunch in the strip. But, do be prepared for a wait if you go. read more

If I could leave Zero Stars I would; the worst experience I have had in years. Ordered the french toast with blueberries only as I am allergic to strawberries after being told that was possible. Waited a long time for the food as it was crowded and was served french toast with strawberries covering the entire thing. No apologies as I waited for it to be redone. Next served french toast with no blueberries either. Not as big of a deal but it tells me that they just don't listen. It was uncooked in the middle. Sometimes, after a longer night and/or before a busy day, you have to Clear Your Mind and eat a solid breakfast. That much I know! I've been here twice recently and chose omelettes both times. Well the yummy food came to table promptly- with astonishing speed. I dug how they asked us if we wanted toast. I had a breakfast dish with eggs, tomatoes, spinach, and feta. The combination was very tasty, and the quality was definitely there. However, the prices were a bit high for a restaurant that you order at the front, and the food is brought to you. Outdoor seating is an additional $3, which, in my opinion, should be free. I really wanted a latte the morning I went here; however, there is not a coffee bar. Drip coffee was the only option available. One last thing and I am done: I was facing the back of the upstairs dining room, and the storage from up above is entirely visible. This was a bit of an eyesore; I shall not lie. I found this spot because I was desperately craving a muffaletta and this seems to be the only place in town that has one. The first trip I got takeout. I got my beloved muffaletta which was ALMOST as good as the ones in New Orleans. This time, I dined in. As is typical on a Sunday in the strip it was crowded but we managed to get sat right away. I went with the Brown Bag Lunch. My sandwich was Jambon and Brie. The ham and cheese were delicious (although stupid me thought it would be melted). The bread though...that ciabatta bread almost broke my jaw. I used a steak knife to cut my sandwich and still had to actually saw through it. It didn't taste stale, it was just HARD! The pasta salad was good, Albeit slightly bland. I ordered a cookie and didn't get it (also didn't realize it until I got home, so largely my fault). Pittsburgh may be known for its diners (I'm thinking of you, Pamela's and Kelly O's!), but Cafe Raymond is not to be missed. The laid-back, first-come, first-serve breakfast and lunch spot is located in the middle of the Strip District and often has a line trailing out of the front door. But, don't let that deter you -- there's hidden second-floor seating and the line always moves quickly! Their setup can be a bit confusing at first, but after one time there it's easy to get the hang of. The line leads to their counter, where you place your order. Staff will direct you where to sit, and hand you a number so servers can identify your table. Drinks -- including cocktails and beers -- are in a fridge that you grab n' go from after placing your order. If you're there for breakfast, the blueberry ricotta pancakes are a must. They're fluffy, filled with blueberries, and just on the edge of too sweet -- the perfect breakfast treat. (My recommendation? Order a plate of pancakes for the table.) Other than that, you can't really go wrong with your order. I've jumped around the menu, from sandwiches to eggs and toast, and everything's been pretty delicious. If I could give this 4.5 stars, I would -- the only drawback is that the flavor's not always quite there in every piece of the meal. My wife and I came here on a Sunday morning for brunch. There are so many places in the strip to try and based upon some recommendations from friends we decided to try this place out. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded on a Sunday morning and we didn't have long to wait to order at the counter. Once ordered we were seated at a table. The whole check in process was very efficient and could see how this is useful on busier days. My wife ordered the blueberry ricotta pancakes and I had "Guy's breakfast" with a coffee which included two eggs, ham, potatoes, and a blueberry ricotta pancake. Guy's breakfast was really good. I had my eggs done over easy and they were cooked appropriately. The ham and potatoes added a nice savory balance to a very rich and tasty pancake. The coffee was also solid and was a nice top off for the morning meal. I would enjoy coming back here. The blueberry ricotta pancake is the highlight. I have heard so many good things about Cafe Raymond in the Strip District, that I finally decided to commit and check it out! They definitely have something for everyone here, whether you want a savory or sweet breakfast, something a little healthier or something sweet! We had a few people in our party get the Guy's breakfast, that comes with two eggs any way, potatoes, a meat of your choice, and one of their famous ricotta blueberry pancakes. The pancake was clearly the star of the show, and I can see why so many people speak so highly of it. The ricotta adds such a nice texture to the pancake, making it super fluffy! We randomly walked in here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and to our surprise there was no wait! Some of the other popular diners had a 30-40 minute wait, but this place ended up being one of our favorite meals of the weekend. You order from the register as soon as you walk in, grab a table either on the main floor or second floor and then wait for your food to be delivered. Everyone's meals were fresh, perfectly cooked and delicious. Most of us wanted something "healthier" after eating out all weekend and this really hit the spot. Some of their breakfast plates come with a small side salad and potatoes too, which was perfect. It was 10am but you can either order from their "lunch menu" or breakfast menu which was nice for our group who wanted both. I used to love this place, but the service has gone downhill. They turn their phones off so customers can't reach them for any reason. Any establishment that doesn't want to be available for customers to connect with them is an unfortunate red flag. You can't call to report a problem, secure a forgotten credit card, or any other reason a customer may want to communicate with an establishment. Furthermore, I asked to speak with the manager to make this case, and have my concerns voiced, and the manager refused to come out from the office to speak with a customer. I learned during my first visit that it's a good idea to opt for potatoes rather than the regular chips that come alongside a sandwich because they're delicious! Our food arrived quickly and the portion sizes were good. My mom's burger was so juicy and the bun looked incredibly soft, and to a person that isn't big on beef burgers it looked amazing. My wrap was also great, and I loved all the roasted veggies and the pesto oil that pulled it all together. Our meals even with the small upcharge for potatoes was still just over $20 for the two of us, which isn't bad at all for lunch. The first time I visited Café Raymond, I got the special which was a pulled pork grilled cheese. I'm not sure how often specials change, but I was sure glad I ordered it this time! My sandwich was huge and had more pork than cheese on it, and the pork was juicy and covered in BBQ sauce.. Skip the line for Delucas next door, this place is a worthwhile stop for breakfast in the strip. First wait at the counter to place your order and get a table number. Food comes out piping hot and delicious. We went with Guys breakfast, which included eggs your way, a breakfast protein (went with bacon, thick cut and cooked to perfection - delicious), potatoes with their own seasoning (yum!) and one perfect blueberry ricotta pancake. Ate Breakfast here the first weekend Sunday that restuaurants were allowed to re-open during this pandemic time. My friend and I arrived at 9am and were able to secure an outdoor table upstairs upon arrival. You stand in line to order from a chalkboard menu and pay at the cash register after ordering so contact-less menu is always good. The menu is fantastic and I opted for french toast with fruit toppings; it was sooo good and they are doing the social distancing required of tables and patrons so that was good. My only beef was that our server did not wear a mask at all. That should have given me enough pause to bypass this restaurant at this time but it did not. I guess I was so eager to be out at an actual restaurant that I failed to pay attention right away. I hope they have rectified that situation and take patron and their own safety more seriously. read more

There is typically a long wait/line to get in which is very typical at any breakfast restaurant across Pittsburgh. However, at Cafe Raymond you stand in line, order your food, and then are seated. On a Sunday morning, we waited about 20 minutes. We ordered the sausage, egg and cheese croissant and the ham and gruyere croissant. Both were served with potatoes. We really loved the food.
