Food was amazing! The Benedict's were very flavorful, I only wish they added a little bit more crab cause I felt like it wasn't enough but non the less it was really good. Banana French toast, probably one of the best French toasts I've tasted, it was very flavorful and well balanced. Service was great, I thought it was a little odd that you wait to be seated but you have to get up to order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cafe was cute, very open and airy, lots of windows![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely will be going back to try their seafood trio rolls lol

Portions are large breakfast burrito was a little too big. It was very messy too I would not order that again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Drinks and coffee here as well. Breakfast here was phenomenal! Driving in the area when in town found this place and was pleasantly surprised. You walk in get seated and then you'll order at the counter and they will drop it off. I had the breakfast burrito with Chorizo. So good! Service was good considering I placed my order myself. hehe Honey loved his breakfast sammie too! Loved it!

The food is amazing. They definitely do a great job with variety and the flavors. The service was great granted - you have to order at the counter and tip before you even get your food and or service which I am not a fan of. If you need anything, you have to get up and go ask for it at the counter. Smaller location, but they do have parking which is great and we were seated quickly .

Lobster Benedict ($27) - way too much going on, do not recommend

I was looking for a good breakfast spot while visiting Portland and Cafe Rowan came up. I got the Lobster Benedict ($27), Chatham Burrito ($16), and a drip coffee ($3.50). The burrito was pretty good. It was filled with scrambled eggs, chorizo, and potatoes and came with two small sauces on the side. I like that it was toasted. It was very large; I took half for leftovers. The Lobster Benedict I did not like. It had a single large piece of toast (brioche?) on the bottom, not English muffins. It came with two poached eggs, shaved asparagus, watermelon radish, avocado, hollandaise, old bay seasoning, and lots of greens on top. It had way too many ingredients, flavors, and sauces. It had some nice pieces of lobster, but they were lost among everything else. The toast was a little difficult to cut with my knife. They need to completely rethink this dish. The space is rather basic and spare, without much decoration. Service is non-existent; you order at a counter, get your own water, drip coffee is self-serve, and you bus your table.

"Have you tried the lobster roll at Cafe Rowan?" is a question I was asked several times before I made it here. Luckily, I came on a Thursday where you can get a lobster roll and mimosa for $20! Great deal! Deal is Wednesday or Thursday - normally $35 or so. It was fresh, tender, briny, buttery lobster served in a warm, soft, yet crispy bun. I loved it! I only wished it was larger - it's small - but still delivers! The breakfast sandwich was good, but the eggs were a little overdone. My friend's eggs were runny - mine were not. The gochujang flavor was mild - sausage and bun both scrumptious! Latte and Mimosa were both delicious, too! It's counter service and casual vibes. I would definitely eat the lobster roll again!

First time going here and it was good but was expecting more flavor. The food is plated beautifully but there's not much there for the price. I got their special the BLTA. It had flavor but just like any other BLTA. My husband got their crab eggs Benedict. It had lots of flavor but he said he was still hungry at the end. The service is good; they have you order at the counter which makes it easier to just leave when you're done. I do wish the waitress/ waiters would check up more often. Brunch is best. Brunch here is lovely. Rarely is incredible presentation matched with equal flavor. This place got close. Really good food, but it was so pretty I almost didn't want to eat it. But honestly, it never stood a chance. A real simple yet diverse menu. The French toast was unique and tasty. Love the concept. Breakfast burrito was huge and very good. Honestly, the most incredible part of this meal was the salsa. They do an incredible job with the salsa. Idk if that gets talked about in regards to this place. Overall great brunch spot. No brainer. Pretty darn good! Very fast service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were offered a table outside and didn't realize the seats were damp- wooden bench absorbed water oops! Wish they didn't offer that today or had sat and tested before offering it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bowl had really nice eggs, wish it had more potatoes. I didn't eat the edamame it was too tough, the leaves of lettuce and kale were buried at the bottom with no flavor so just left them alone. My friend enjoyed her benny, she said good. Food was absolutely amazing. I got a brown sugar miso latte with almond milk and it was flavorful and frothy. The service was pretty good, we got checked up on multiple times. Went to this place for brunch and I have mixed feelings about it. You have to order beforehand at front but they will bring the food to you. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got seat right next to the dirty dishes and it's kind close to it. So if someone accidentally dropped some dishes a little hard it would get those dirty stuff on us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have WAY too many cilantro on my dish! I ordered lobster egg Benedict! It's a bit over seasoned! Tasted very salty but the veggies balanced it out a bit. I personally do not like cilantro and it didn't mention on the menu. When I got this dish I was so shocked how much cilantro in it! Thankfully the server was so nice!! He was able to help me fix it and took out a lot of cilantro. I also ordered espresso martini and wow it tasted pretty strong and it has a gingery taste! It's unique and amazing! Definitely give it a try!! My husband got the harvest burrito and it was sooo good! It was my first time trying squash! And wow the whole dish tasted amazing! Highly recommend that! Overall, I like this place but the lobster egg Benedict was a bit too salty! And way too much cilantro

The Benedict's are so unique and full of flavor, they had a special Korean Benedict that was perfection. The service was over the top friendly, the owner came out and talked to us, met his mom who was helping, seems so rare these days, loved the lobster roll, very rich and smooth. The setting inside was very comfortable and was not overly loud which was nice for a busy brunch spot. We can't wait to come back! read more

Food is insanely delicious!! We stumbled on this gem during our stay in Portland. Spencer the owner was super friendly and really cares about what he's doing. Solid breakfast spot in Portland. There was a huge line but we managed to snag a table after ordering at the counter. The matcha latte and coffee was excellent, and the food was good but not life changing. I got the green eggs bowl and thought the whole thing was a bit dry and the scrambled eggs and potatoes could've been cooked better. My friend got the Jamon Eggs Benedict and liked it. read more

I came here with my husband and newborn daughter for my first outing out of the house as a new mom. I was really looking forward to checking Cafe Rowan out and cautiously excited to be back out in the world. We grabbed a table outside and the chef came by to let us know/apologize that they had run out of a lot of things already. No biggie - at this point, having already schlepped with the baby to the place we were totally happy to just have a pastry and tea or whatever was left. We decided to switch to a table inside and went to the counter to order instead. Imagine our surprise when the chef came to the register and started yelling at us in front of his staff - accusing us of "thinking we can just come in and demand that he cook for us even though he already told us they didn't have any food." Clearly a miscommunication, we didn't realize that "we're out of a lot of things" meant "we're closed". He then proceeded to snap at the woman working the register. Looks like there are other reviews reporting similar behavior. I'm sure the food is good but there's no shortage of that in Portland from chefs I'm much happier to support. read more

Mind blown emoji! This is a son/mother run business for foodies that's not pretentious. The cafe is a gorgeous space, staff is warm and lovely, service was excellent. The "momager" was on site and chatted with us a bit--this is her retirement gig. Rowan? Her son's black lab (we even got to see a photo). The food, though, the food was sublime. I couldn't decide between the crab benedict and the huckleberry french toast so I got both. The benedict was flavorful but not heavy, which is tough to pull off, and artfully prepared with avocado, shaved asparagus, and pea shoots. Stunning. French toast was made on brioche with fresh huckleberries (in season and very expensive) and a gorgeous hazelnut and other topping that was incredible. I overdid it for sure, but so worth it. I'm an out-of-towner but I'll be back! read more

I went to this place a couple of days ago and I ordered a shroom toast and a cortado. The coffee was not so great. The toast was good. I added white truffle oil, which always goes along with the mushroom very well. Each ingredient was adequately cooked and fresh. *I just wished they put a bit less of the sauce so the taste of mushroom could be lifted. read more

Such a lovely experience every time I come here. The owner Spencer and his mom are so friendly and welcoming. They made sure that everything was great and even gave us a free lox toast! Haven't had a great brunch in a while until I came here. Ordered the crab Benedict which was a1. The only downfall about this place is that it's really packed and you will have to wait around for a table. Line was all the way to the door. Luckily for us, we are able to get a table while waiting to order in line. read more

Family of 4 doing Sunday brunch. Probably better for couples, friends, date vibe. We had the Dame, Rowan, BF French toast and Lobster eggs benny. Ingredients and quality top notch. FT was superb. Eggs Benedict best in class, I'd personally ask them not to sprinkle the extra salt on top next time. Unfortunately we never got our drinks. A simple cup of coffee and one cocktail. They need to have a less robust drink selection so as to produce beverages quicker or put the food order in later. Pretty crazy they can't even get you a cup of drip coffee in the 30 minutes you are there. Food comes out in increments so first meal came out 7 or more minutes before the last. We won't be spending the big bucks here again. read more

My wife and I eat here for brunch every weekend. It has an gentle atmosphere, clean and uncluttered seating, followed up by some of the best dishes Portland has to offer. From the Rowan Sandwich to the Shrimp and Grits it has never disappointed us. The staff is all friendly and very much interested in providing outstanding service. The Chef has made some remarkable dishes and is very passionate about his food. We attended the first dinner the chef hosted and the food was delectable. Will be continuing our tradition of weekend brunch for sure! read more

I would give Cafe Rowan five stars, but the sign-in process is confusing. It is clear if you read the directions on the door, but I'm afraid some folks just go in and sit down thus bypassing the sign-in list. That being said, it was worth the wait. The food and coffee were EXCELLENT! I had the Rowan breakfast sandwich which had good quality bacon, egg, cheese on a soft, pillowy brioche bun. You could've stopped there and had an excellent sandwich, but there was a secret ingredient...homemade blueberry jam! It sounds odd, but it all went well together. My son and husband had the Birria Rancheros. They loved it! We spoke to a nice lady who may have been the owner. She apologized for the wait and talked to us for a minute about the Birria. Please stop what you are doing and come to this awesome cafe for breakfast! Their breakfast sandwiches are out of this world delicious! My favorite of their breakfast sandwiches is the Dame which consists of house made sausage, manchego and Mama lil aioli. But I also love the Rowan with fried egg, thick cut bacon and a house made blueberry jam. They also offer great lattes and coffees l. Service was fast and friendly. They definitely have great measures in place to adhere to Covid precautions. The Chef, Owner even came up to our table and thanked us for our business. He is extremely nice and truly cares about providing an exceptional dining experience. read more

What a gem of a restaurant. We arrived for a late brunch as a party of 7. The place was bustling with a line outside, but there was still a nice relaxed ambiance inside. Despite a mixed-up with our reserved table and subsequent issue with our orders, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Every dish was wonderful, especially the crab Benedict. Expertly cooked (that poached egg was just perfect!) and tasted so fresh. We also appreciated that the owner personally came to talk with us to apologize for the mixed-up and even offered us a couple delicious lobster rolls to try. Excellent food, excellent service. My cousins decided to take me here on my first morning in Portland. We all decided to get something different so each of us got taste what the other got. I decided on the birria rancheros and the pain killer. The food was delicious and so was the drink. I also got to try the banana foster French toast and omg it's to die for. Great neighborhood spot for coffee-to-go or dine in for full breakfast and lunch. The cafe has healthy, exciting food served quickly. It also has decadent options to choose from. It's all fresh and served by artisan chefs. The staff and service are excellent. I felt safe - social distancing is easy. The layout is comfortable - everything is sparkling new - it's fun to watch the chefs prepare your food. Espresso drinks are spot-on and the smoothies are great. The place is clean and has a fresh feel to it, was looking forward to coming here and hopefully make it a new stop.... unfortunately it will not be. Stopped by for a morning treat for my sister and myself- Ordered an Iced cubano with almond milk and an iced mocha as well as a rowen sandwich to go. The mocha tasted like chocolate milk and the cubano tasted like cinnamon milk :( they serve Coava which I love, yet was missing out on the taste. The sandwich was small and rather underwhelming especially for the $8 price tag when in Portland a breakfast sandwich can be awesome. Wish I would have taken a picture of the sandwich. Due covid, when we do go out and decide treat each other it just sucks when the experience is so disappointing. read more

I just moved into the Creston Kenilworth neighborhood about a week ago. Finding a good coffee shop is usually on my list of most important things to do when I am in a new area, and I was pleased to find Cafe Rowan. There are a couple of screening criteria I use whenever I am first visiting a cafe. The first is determining the kind of espresso machine. Basically, there are only two options if any coffee business is serious about their product: (1) La Marzocco and (2) Synesso. CR uses Synesso! Extra gold start for using a comparatively local (Seattle) company. My next screening criterion is the brand of coffee beans. CR brews Coava. Another gold star for using my favorite Portland-based coffee roaster. Now, putting it all together to craft a drink, I ordered a 16oz quad-Americano with oat milk. So happy this opened in our neighborhood. You had to go to Division for a descent brunch. The toasts and breakfast sandwiches are so yummy and original. They are light but you can also order the weekend specials that are more substantial and equally tasty. I hope they survive the pandemic!!! read more

Cafe Rowan is a fabulous little cafe. I found them through instagram and I had to give it a shot. And it was worth it. The food is so so yummy. I enjoy that the menu changes pretty regularly, adding specials but they have their signature dishes. I have shown a couple friends about Cafe Rowan, and now they are as obsessed and I am!! In the short time they've been open, I've enjoyed breakfast at Cafe Rowen three times and can't wait to go back. I've had two of the breakfast sandwiches. They are superlative, and I can't believe the price! Today I had the house made granola with fresh berries, so delicious and healthy. You can tell that loving care goes into everything they produce. In addition to an incredible line up of coffee drinks (Coava Coffee) they have a delicious Bloody Mary. On my last trip I elected to have the iced tea. I believe it was lemongrass infused? Delicious and refreshing. Clearly the staff has clearly thought out covid precautions and are providing clear floor direction, distanced tables, and the place is immaculately clean. They also have outdoor seating on both sides. And outdoors is dog friendly! Maybe they should put a dog dish on the menu! My new favorite neighborhood spot! I've gone at least 2-3x per week since opening and have consistently had great food, drinks and service. The space is clean and follows COVID-19 guidelines. The best coffee! Their mochas and vanilla lattes are my favorite. Every food item I've tried has blown my mind. The staples on the menu are fantastic but I especially love the weekend specials. I've never written a bad review. I would give 0 stars if I could. Our group of 4 had just come from a memorial 5k, ready to celebrate and have some great food and drinks. The owner was extremely rude to our group, dismissed us after asking if we could sit at the open 6 top, rolled his eyes. Told us that IF a larger party came in the would sit there. There was no one else waiting. The customer service is a joke. Thanks for treating us like garbage, we will never be back! Let's call it 4.5 stars secondary to the limited parking. The food is excellent. Tons of tasty flavor profiles with good proportions. Prices aren't cheap but either is Subway these days. Service is friendly and efficient. Ambience is chill with a fair amount of seating. A variety of drink options with seasonal twists. Stopped in for brunch this morning and was overall pleased! The space was buzzing, making it difficult to find a seat (it's an order at the counter, seat yourself situation). Signage wasn't super clear either, but once we figured it out, the staff was very helpful, friendly and the food came fast. I ordered the Dame on gluten free bread and my friend ordered the Rowan. I loved that they had a gluten free option that didn't taste like cardboard. I was pleasantly surprised at how hearty and filling the sandwiches were. Even my mom commented that it seemed like something was off with our waiter. It was a bit disappointing because the food was so good, but the service took away from the overall experience.

The short rib arancini were crispy with a nice sauce and are ordered by the each. I forgot to mention that the menu is designed for sharing so plan on 2-3 dishes per person. The spicy pork pasta had fun thin ribbons of noodles with a curly edge (like skinny lasagne noodles) and wasn't too spicy. My wife really like the seasonal sweet corn ravioli with its beautiful lite preparation. All this food was more than enough and very reasonably priced. The wine list is small but assembled with a careful eye and the by the glass options were of high quality. Service was friendly and the meal moved along at a relaxed pace. Water glasses were filled and team service ensured prompt delivery of food and clearing of dishes. The dining room is small with a wonderful hand-painted tile floor. Tucked into the corner of SW 12th and Alder in the West End, the space is warm and comfortable with wood accents, soft leather banquettes, and just the right amount of energy. The Dolly Focaccia with roasted garlic and olive oil, the Roasted Carrot & Farro Salad and the Grilled Heirloom Carrots are all simple and delicious. On the pasta side, the Tagliatelle al Burro is perfect, and the Black Kale Pesto Mafaldine with roasted mushroom and the Braised Short Rib Arancini with pecorino aioli and honey are equally good choices if you're after something a little more complex. The folks who work here are knowledgeable and attentive, never intrusive. Even with the drive in now, it's worth it every time. Highly recommend, whether it's a special occasion or just a reason to head back downtown.

I recently visited Cafe Rowan and had such a delightful experience! Their menu offers a great mix of options, and I was especially excited to try a couple of their specialties. First off, I had the Mushroom Toast, which is fully vegan and so tasty! The earthy flavors of the mushrooms were perfectly complemented by the crispy toast, and the seasoning was spot on. It's a great plant-based option that doesn't compromise on flavor. But what really caught my attention was their Lobster Day, which happens every Wednesday and Thursday. For $20, you get a lobster roll paired with a glass of mimosa--how fun is that? The lobster roll was fresh and buttery, and the mimosa was a refreshing bonus. I will say, the portions are on the smaller side, especially for the price, but the quality more than makes up for it. Another plus is the easy parking! There's a convenient lot right next to the cafe, making it hassle-free to stop by, even on a busy day. So, the food was great, the atmosphere cozy, and the service friendly. 4.5 Stars The restaurant was crowded on Sunday during brunch hours. We ordered at the counter and found a seat. The food is phenomenal, and the presentation is absolutely beautiful. The avocado toast ($14) was incredible--perfectly toasted thin sourdough whole wheat topped with generous heaps of avocado. The garnishes of peas, radishes, and microgreens were stunning! The only downside was the drinks, which I found to be lacking (though I admit I'm a bit picky). The first matcha latte ($5.50 for 12 oz) was strangely sour, but the second one I had remade with soy milk was much better. However, I was disappointed that it lacked microfoam. I finally got to have brunch at Cafe Rowan with my friend, and it was worth the wait! This spot had been on my list for a while, so I knew I had to try their lobster roll. It did not disappoint -- buttery, flavorful, and generously packed with lobster meat. My only gripe is that for the price, it didn't come with chips or a side, and I found myself wanting a little more to round out the meal. That said, the rest of the menu looked fantastic, and my friend really enjoyed her bowl. The quality is there, and I'm eager to try more dishes on my next visit. Love everything about this cafe! Amazing food with weekly specials. Everything they use is local and it is evident in how fresh everything tastes.
