Food was good, as would be expected for a place like this, but that's not what this review is for (shocking!!!!). It has the prettiest view out on the dock across the river. After eating, we were outside on the dock and one of the servers (Freddy!!!!) brought out s'mores stuff and turned on the gas fire for all the kids. We were delighted to find a Mexican restaurant a short walk over the river from our Springfield Suites hotel. Service was great! We were greeted within about 10 seconds of walking in the door, and both servers who checked on us were friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a variety of seating, including indoor, outdoor along the river, and bar seating. I would call the menu Mexican-leaning since it largely Mexican food but also has some other unexpected dishes, like pastas and salads. Food was delicious and plentiful for the price. The kids meal for our 10-year old was an excellent value. We're certain to stop by next time we visit Yellowstone! read more

Food was great. Service was even better once we got seated. Place was absolutely packed and the staff was running. Our waiter Dean kept us informed of any delays in our order. Catastrophically bad. The guacamole is not guacamole. It's chopped up avocados with partially cut up tomatoes and a dried out wedge of lime. The street tacos were so-so but the cilantro was several days past ripe...all of it was wilted. Her steak salad was bad. She ate the meat but said it was bland. She ate the couple of avocado chunks in it and was done. There was a pool of milky water in the bottom of the bowl. It looked gross and at that point she stopped eating. I guess we should have known better though. We saw two tables with half eaten food on them when we walked in but thought we would be okay. We weren't. Been coming to Island Park for a few years. On this trip we wanted to eat out for lunch. The staff at Cafe Sabor is friendly attentive. The menu is excellent. We had a taco salad and Chile verde burrito. The pork was tender and plentiful. The verde was excellent. The taco salad was fresh and tasted great. The salsa served with the chips is excellent. Since we camp here 3 to 4 times a year, we will now make Cafe Sabor a stop. If you are craving really good Mexican food, you can't go wrong with Cafe Sabor. read more

We were staying in West Yellowstone where the crowds and wait time for dinner was unattractive. So we opted for the only restaurant in the area that accepts reservations! Bingo Cafe Sabor! We are outside cuz inside was pretty loud. Drop sun shades for the patio would be helpful to block the setting sun this time of the year. Good was excellent! I saw the Coconut Curry soup on Yelp and had to have it. It was great. Very fresh! Hubs had a taco salad and said it was the best he ever had. Granddaughter had shredded beef burrito and it was awesome! We are pretty picky about our Mexican from of. This was really really good. Hubs had a margarita. Meh. Probably an off brand premix in a bottle. Only had one. There wasn't even a lime! They strictly poured it out of a bottle over ice, there you go. Sitting by the river is nice! The drive was waaaaaaaaay too far from WY, about 30 minutes. We had nothing better to do so it was great to see this part of the state. Look you're in the middle of nowhere and here is this great Mexican restaurant. It would be great if it was in a big city, but here it's an oasis. They can get over busy on summer weekends and you may need to be patient. The cheese dip is awesome amd the salsa is just right. If you're lucky you will get Mason or Ethan to wait on you. If you get Freddy also consider yourself blessed. These guys keep the chips and salsa coming and just overall really great guys. The flank steak is my favorite but all of it is good. The food is very good. The queso is excellent. It is definitely "Americanized" Mexican food. Not spicy. But still very good. It is a cute place right next to the river. We didn't sit outside, but there was a patio overlooking the River that looked lovely. The Service!! The service was the best I have ever seen. The place was packed but the wait staff was hustling! They were sprinting upstairs and never stopped moving. The food came out quick and hot. Our waitress Kourtney was the BEST!! She checked on us often and had an amazing demeanor. The food is absolutely delicious! The restaurant is clean, and the views are amazing, right by the river! We were at an event in Island Park that hired Cafe Sabor for the catering service. We liked it so much that we made sure to have dinner there again before leaving town. Our server was not the best though, he made us feel betrayed or just stupid, pretty much ruined our night out. Niko was not transparent about what he was offering us, he suggested the $10 margarita instead of the $3 special they were having. After we ordered our appetizer, he just says: Chips and Salsa is coming, Queso e Guac?" So, we said, sure. These 2 items were $12 and $10!! When we ordered dinner, just 2 tacos each, he asked (not offered) which sides we wanted, we both opted for salad, another $6 each. My husband then asked for extra cilantro, another $2. We only found out about these "extras" after we received our bill. I was so angry, I decided to leave without saying anything. Ok, I get it, he's upselling, and we were wrong in assuming things, but come on, honesty?? I would have tipped him way more if he had just been nicer. We went there twice, the menu had excellent selection of menu items. The shrimp ceviche was delicious and coconut curry soup also. The service was excellent as well. The margaritas were also yummy. I ate at Cafe Sabor several times when they first opened in Island Park but eventually faded away because the crowds were soooo heavy during the summer but recently we gave it a 2nd chance after the summer crowds started to slow. Absolutely horrible experience. We arrived in a group and expected slow service but this was ridiculous. After 10 minutes someone came by with chips and salsa, then another 10-15 minutes the waiter showed up asked for a round of waters. Another 10 minute wait and he shows up with 3 less than we requested. They dropped them off and rushed away before we were done passing them out. Nothing like snacking on chips for 20 ish minutes before you get a water. While waiting for the waiter had plenty of time to people watch. I watch the lady stand and wait for her credit card to be ran she stood there for a solid 15 minutes ( different waiter than ours). Her dinner companion had already left. I had a lot of time to watch people while waiting on the waiter to come by. Ordered the food showed up 35 minutes later, minus 2 entrée. Several minutes later was able to flag down a different waiter and ask for missing food. When they finally brought the two entrées they were cold (one was mine). Almost everyone said the food was bland mine included. My shrimp fajita burrito was 95% overcooked mushy rice, a small pinch of peppers on each end and 3 pieces of shrimp. During dinner he never came back around to ask if we needed water refills. After we finished waiter finally brought the bill after we flagged him down again. Waited 10 minutes to give him the credit card(he disappeared again). Had to go find the waiter and hand him the credit card and bill and stood next to him while he ran it. Needless to say I didn't add any gratuity than what they added for the group. He asked me how long I was going to be in town I told him four days and he said "I will see you tomorrow then" to which I just shook my head. One of the worst dining experiences ever. Pretty sure they stay busy because they are one of the only restaurants in the small town. We should've just went back to West Yellowstone and ate there. read more

I really wanted to like this spot because I have this restaurant close to where I live in Utah. The salsa is not great, my husband even said it tasted like ragu. We usually love their shrimp ceviche but you could tell it was pre-made because the two avocado slices came out dry and so were the chopped tomatoes. No idea when it was actually made. All of the food came out really fast so I'm not sure how fresh anything is.I had the red Sangria that was really good. My husband doesn't know much about Mexican food so we both got the tacos al carbon. He was very upset about having a soggy tortilla and having to use a fork. The meat was flavorful and tender however, the rice and beans lacked in seasoning. Don't think we'll come back to this restaurant again if we're in the area. read more
