I had extremely high hopes to try out this new restaurant in downtown Flagstaff. As a long time resident, we love supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, our experience has left us non plussed. The food was dry with no flavor, the appetizer we ordered was overpriced and came with cheap garlic bread that didn't even have garlic on it. In addition we were out of bread and half a bowl of marinara remained. My husband ordered the creamy salmon and it was passable for salmon by lacked any cream. I ordered the lemon ricotta and it was also a small serving for the price and left much to be desired in terms of authentic Italian. The service was mid, but there was a young child serving and cleaning tables which I'm sure is against child labor laws. Very odd experience. Will not return! read more

Honestly Ive been scared to check this place out. The owner seemed kinda rude from the reviews i read but i decided to check this place out. I went a little while ago and wrote a review but forgot to post it. For starter we had to wait around for 2 hrs before we even got seated. But once we were seated we ordered and our spot was very cramped we had lots of people speed walk past us. Not sure whats going on with the wall decor but it was all over the place. For a italian restranaut it didnt seem that classy honestly olive garden has a better vibe. No italian music which was sad I had to put in my airpods to set the mood. The food was good the pasta was a little firmer than i would have liked BUT the salad was so pathetic. If you have time to put in the effort to make pasta from scratch you can put some effort into the salad. The salad was an absolute disgrace to Italians. It was iceberg lettuce and some watery red juice. There was no kids menu which was pretty disappointing some people can eat a full plate and simply just don't want to. Definitely wasn't my favorite place but would try it again. I would give this a one star but I know its a family owned business and i still have morals. Cant wait to see you improve! read more

First time at this Italian restaurant in Flagstaff. The location is in downtown Flagstaff just off the main square. They have a really good kitchen. Homemade pasta, lemon riccata, tasty marinara and arrabiato sauce. Our server Micheala took great of us. We enjoyed gelato for desert. All in all a great night for two couples. I love this little new quirky place. Great service, terrific pasta! Lemon ricotta pasta was wonderful; chicken Alfredo that hubs ordered was much loved. They have a good selection of wine and interesting cocktails. I only suggest to the chef to work on plating the bruschetta app: it came unconstructed, just a bowl of chopped tomato and one little leaf of basil and a stack of toast. We had to scoop the tomatoes on the bread and definitely needed more basil! Make it prettier, guys, but it was still tasty. I will go back again to this reasonably priced local restaurant. I'm local too and am glad cafe Stella opened giving us another choice from the overpriced Italian place around the corner. read more

I wish i checked yelp before eating here. The food was pricey and subpar but the service was great. Had the lemon recotta with chicken and the only flavor it had was the red chili flakes and the pasta had the texture of kraft mac nd cheese. Honestly really wanted to like the food here but was disappointed. Came here for the first time on 04/27/24. We arrived at 5:00 pm for an early dinner with a reservation. We were seated right away and offered drinks. It was fun to see a name plate with our name on the table. Nice touch. Started with the bruschetta. Yum! We also ordered the salmon dish & Lemon Ricotta. Shared both dishes with my sister. We both liked each dish equally. Amazing flavor and large portions. Service was incredible as various members of the wait staff checked on us. We will definitely be back! This is a solid 4 star place, that does not deserve the nasty 1 star reviews. Firstly, the staff was exceedingly pleasant. The food was good, I had the Penne Ricotta, and my husband had the spagetti and meatballs. The vibe I got was comfort food in an eclectic historic building, which certainly checks the boxes for me. I had to try the starter salad because of all the complaints. It wasn't bad, and the dressing was good, just tasted like the beginning of an antipasto salad that needs cheese and salami, etc. I hear they are going to stop serving it due to feedback. Anyway, ignore the haters and give these guys a try. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and will be back! read more

Being Italian and having been born and raised in the New York metro area, I'm quite critical of Italian restaurants. Finding a place like cafe Stella in a small mountain town like flagstaff was a stroke of good fortune! All the pasta is hand made there, as is the sausage. The tomato sauce was also good; not garlicky or acidic. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. It's not fancy, just homey and delicious. Mediocre at best. There on Sunday for lunch. Not up to all the hype. Service was above average. Expected more pasta based selections. Maybe at dinner? A little pricey with small portions. $17 for a single slice of French toast cut in half. 2 skimpy pieces of bacon and eggs which were overcooked. No potatoes. We were so delighted to find this restaurant just downstairs from the place we rented for our one week stay in Flagstaff. Delicious handmade pasta dishes and tiramisu! We visited 3 times and enjoyed each one. Friendly, welcoming staff, top-notch pasta and service, and an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend. Had the Southwest Scramble. It was actually pretty good. However, it took very long for the food to come out. Over 35 minutes when the restaurant really was not busy on a Sunday morning. They told us that a large group came in before us. We only saw about six people at one table. Further, my wife asked for a second drink, and they never brought it. She had to ask again. We did sit in the patio on a very nice morning which was nice. The staff was very friendly, however, they need to pay more attention to their customers and faster service. read more

The food was incredible! We all agreed that the lemon pasta with added chicken was the winning dish, but honestly everything we ate was wonderful! We went with 3 adults and a child, ate happily, took home leftovers and celebrated a birthday with a bottle of wine and spent $100. The staff was helpful and very friendly. Also, it's worth noting that their patio is dog friendly if that's important to you. I 100% recommend Cafe Stella and look forward to going back again soon! Each time we come to Flagstaff we look forward to coming here. We have left great reviews before. I wonder if things are going a little downhill. Everything we loved before just wasn't present today. The main issue today however was that one dish was served with the chicken partially warm and partially super cold. it was cooked but just apparently reheated because it was still cold. when brought up, the server agreed it should have been served hot. Our bill came with 10% off that item (not the bill) the item. Seems kind of weird considering we ordered 3 entrees, 2 beers. dessert, and were really nice about the fact that the food was cold. 10% off a dish served with cold chicken? When we were here before the manager always came over to say hello. Today - definitely not. It seemed like the food was so rushed it was cold. I definitely didn't have the same experience that previously made me tell others to visit or made me look for to coming back. My food was good (Tuscan something wuth salmon). But I would hope that all of it would be good, served at the correct temperature next time. I also hope that cafe stella is inviting the way it was so that we can be just as excited to go back as we were before. Not bad - just not the place it was before. Definitely not the same quality of food or customer service. read more

The service was great! I was excited to check this new place out! As for the food, not impressed at all. The "creamy" salmon had no sort of cream or a sauce let alone perhaps just juice from the salmon or the pasta itself. Same goes for the burrata pasta sounds amazing yet comes out so dry until u break the burrata and get the juice from that. Ordered a bottle of wine and decided to take it home, was not informed until after trying to take it home that there's a 10$ "recorking" fee as they taped my screw top wine sealed. Like I said the service was great ambiance was up there too but the food is not worth returning for. read more

The ambiance is very nice at night especially on the back patio area. The waiters and waitresses are all super friendly, personal and helpful. But the food... it is average and a bit bland. Sounds fancy and elegant on the menu but that is not what comes out of the kitchen. I am a little surprised that this wasn't a five star experience but the food taste brought the rating down from what could have been five stars if the food came out as good as the service. read more
