We went to Cafe This Way for dinner once, and breakfast twice during our 4 day trip over the 4th of July week in Bar Harbor. I hope repetition describes how much we enjoyed this place. A great semi "dive" in Bar Harbor, almost has the feeling of eating in someone's house. Breakfasts are outstanding with great coffee and amazing omelette creations. I would try to get there before 9 if its a vacation week/weekend since the line does start forming early. Most people seem to forget about it as a dinner spot but we loved the casual dinner and great lobster salads, fresh fish entree's etc after a day of running around in BH. Ideally try to get a seat on the awning small patio area, during hot days the back of restaurant can get a little stuffy. read more

hip atmosphere, awesome food, fast efficient service. loved how the hostess offered us coffee in their mugs while we waited a couple minutes for a table. we got a build your own omelette that was delicious & happily devoured but also pretty oily (could taste & see the griddle oil on the egg) but omelet ingredients were amazing ( roasted red pepper, goat cheese, spinach, red onion). kit'a burrito with fresh salsa & guacamole was great, huge! will definitely go back next time we are in bar harbor. read more

This is our first visit to Bar Harbor, and friends recommended Cafe This Way. I'm so glad they did! Excellent breakfast, good service, lively atmosphere (including the well behaved dog having breakfast with her owners!). I had "the usual" with turkey bacon and it was delish. They offer egg whites if desired, which is perfect for my husband. We returned for another breakfast two days later. The prices are reasonable and appreciated in this high cost tourist area. We had a great dinner here last night. We had spring rolls for an appetizer and then a fabulous dish of seafood served in a gingery broth with noodles. We did not have reservations but we got there shortly after it opened and we were seated almost immediately. The restaurant filled up quickly so you might want to call for reservations if you are eating after 6 pm. read more

The food is about average. There isn't anything to rave about the food. However, their homemade butter for the bread is unbelievable. It's silky and smooth, and it doesn't taste oily. I finished the whole basket of bread, and I could have finished another one just for the butter. The butter is simply amazing. read more

The atmosphere and service was a little hipster or something....we didn't feel completely comfortable there and the waiter was a little pushy about getting us to drink alcoholic beverages (usually we don't need much convincing but after a day out in the hot sun sometimes you just want to have some water first.) My husband and I went to bar harbor for our honeymoon this past week and the first morning there we went to here and my husband got the monte Cristo and I got eggs benidect. We are vacationing and found this lovely, fantastic place! I ordered the Vegan (which was a tofu scramble - tofu, vegetables, potatoes - spiced to perfection!) My boyfriend doesn't eat eggs so his options for hot breakfast are pancakes and French toast for the most part. yesterday he sits me down for a talk and he starts very seriously, "Babe, we need to do a thorough recepie search on how to make those blueberry pancakes, and then we need to do everything it takes to make them at home even if what it takes is a kitchen renewal". We ate here for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were quite enjoyable, but breakfast may have been our favorite. With dinner we tasted interesting flavors and enjoyed everything at the table. It is no surprise this restaurant has been recommended in so many places. At breakfast the omelets, hash, and potatoes were tasty, but the blueberry muffin was the pleasant surprise. It was dark and looked overbaked, but it was moist and the flavor was incredible. One note: at breakfast they do not have a children's menu, so ordering a full meal for a child will likely be too much food. One of ours polished off the oatmeal with no problem, but the two egg breakfast was too much for the other little one. read more

Visited 4th of July week for breakfast and waited for about 20 min for a table. Our party of four sat on the deck it was covered and heater was on as it was a chilly/raw cloudy day. The menu had a lot of good looking choices and I had a hard time deciding. I ended up going with the Kit's Burrito which was excellent (and big). Other's got the french toast (sourdough), blueberry pancakes and "the usual breakfast -eggs, toast, homefries, bacon. Pancakes were tasty, lots of blueberries but definitely on the thinner side. French toast was again, tasty, but the bread was also just thin bread....I prefer a thicker bread for french toast as well as thick, fluffy pancakes. They both were fresh and tasty so I can't really knock them too much based on my personal preference. Homefries were ok...a little on the dry side more just like a breakfast potato side. Atmosphere was good, service was excellent and prices were reasonable all in all a good choice for breakfast. read more

Very rude staff! Walked out and would not return. Menu looked great and we were very excited to eat breakfast here, but as we walked in the front door that was propped open, we were rudely greeted with a "we open at 7am. You need to wait outside." The time? 6:56am!!?? I am in the food service industry and if one of my employees did this, there would be a conversation had. Was it that hard for you, Cafe This Way, to offer a couple glasses of water and let us sit and talk for a few minutes before you open, out of the rain? Your door was wide open, the staff was standing around talking and the town was extremely quiet for a rainy Monday morning. You lost out on business, made a terrible impression for Bar Harbor and deserve this bad review. Step up your business and attitude, unless you want to be known for crappy service! read more

My favorite place for breakfast in Bar Harbor (and everyone else's favorite too, based on the crowds for brunch on a rainy Sunday.) Even when all the tables are packed, the staff is pretty quick and always friendly. Food is fantastic and not terribly expensive. I had the cashew crusted tofu because it was recommended on yelp and it was awesome. We had the smoked duck pate which was good. Came with pickle bites and crusty bread. I think the crusty bread is not a good choice and ate it with the regular bread that is served. Good smoked flavor and a nice size portion. The tuna dinner from the menu was good. Little saturated in the Asian sauce, overpowering the fish some. The potatoes were very nice. It was a surprise that it was served with raw green beans. The Brussels sprouts appetizer with duck confit was very good. It's flash fried in two stages which layers the textures and then it's tossed in a honey hot sauce with pumpkin seeds. Well done. The chocolate mousse dessert was grainy and lacking full flavor. The waiter quickly removed it from our bill. I think they are invested in customer service and it's a pleasant dining experience. read more

Cafe This Way was the last of four restaurants we visited during a trip to Acadia this July 4th. It is worth a visit if you have tried some of the other restaurants already (Lompoc Cafe and McKay's were two favorites). The service was great, and the food was consistent and fresh. This place is very popular for breakfast. Most of the dishes are well prepared and served by friendly staff. However, lobster in lobster Egg Benedict was not fresh at all and this is there signature breakfast dish! I also ordered a double espresso. It looked liked a regular coffee. I asked my waiter about crema that every good cup of espresso should have. His response was that their machine makes strong coffee and not espresso. Shouldn't you fix your espresso machine or take espresso off the menu? read more

The menu is creative, the ingredients fresh, and the quality top notch... excellent coffee too. I had eggs Benedict with smoked trout. Large portions of trout, perfectly poached eggs and a tangy Hollandaise all served with perfect hash browns. I judge a restaurant for breakfast on two dishes - Corned Beef Hash and Pancakes. Both at Café this Way are the absolute best. Hash is the best I've ever had - the Corned Beef is excellent and not lost within the other ingredients. The Blueberry Pancakes were fantastic. You could really taste the years of flavor from the grill they cooked them on. Bloody Mary was pretty fine as well! read more
