Chez Nous is a very casual French dining establishment in the heart of Lee. It came highly recommended from the locals, and I could see why. As I said, nothing fancy, no crystal or table cloth, just a simply laid out table. I couldn't get in until 8:30 on a Saturday night, so it is popular. Hot crispy white and wheat fresh rolls and olives were on the table to start. The waitress, Shaina, was only there 6 weeks and was funny while trying to answer all my questions regarding the menu. Eventually the co-owner, Rachel, also the dessert chef, came over and walked me thru the menu. She was so lovely. I started with the pâté platter with toast points. It was deelish! I was disappointed that my favorite French cuisine dish wasn't available, escargots. I could have a dozen of those for dinner alone. But the pâté did the trick. I complimented it with a cheese platter that had Blue, Goat and White Vermont Cheddar. All good. One of the unique features of Chez Nous are the half plates for every entrée. It was a great idea especially to try multiple dishes or having a late night meal. I went with the 1/2 plate lamb chops with cous cous and mixed veggies. The 1/2 plate had 4 lamb chops which was perfect for my late entrée. I complimented it all with a lite French red wine. A type of French version Pinot Noir. Just perfect for my taste. For dessert I had the Blueberry and Nectarine tart with ice cream. It was luscious! I have to admit I was expecting the typical saucy garlicky heavy French meal, but I was happy that they have light summer menu choices appropriate for the season. Come and enjoy Chez Nous, but be prepared for the unexpected menus that change regularly. read more

We recently visited Chez Nous the meal was very good. The menu is well thought out and the wine list is diversified with an excellent variety of options. For th meal: we'd give Chez Nous an 8 out of 10 As a first course, we shared the cheese plate it was delicious, 4 different types of cheese w/fruit compote, caramelized onion marmalade and raw nuts. The baker/pastry chef uses organic whole grain wheat called Einkorn Grain to make the bread and it was wonderful, it has a delicious earthy flavor. As a mid course, we both ordered a Lobster Salad with a truffle sauce & organic mixed greens it was an appetizer special. The plate had pieces of fresh lobster, a dollop of truffle mayo (sauce) & organic mixed greens tossed in vinaigrette. It was a nice twist to traditional lobster salad however; we didn't feel it wasn't fully conceptualized. The dollop of truffle mayo missed the mark on the dish. Perhaps it would have been more appetizing drizzled across the fresh lobster and mixed greens, forgoing the need to pre-dress the greens with the vinaigrette. The way the dish was prepared it was too oily. Nevertheless, it was good and the presentation was wonderful. We both ordered the Scallops and substituted the starch for veg. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the carefree substitution was a delightful change as many chef's require one to substitute a starch for a starch. Since we'd already had two courses we wanted to keep the entrée light. Service: we'd give Chez Nous a 3 out of 10 Without going on and on about all the "service" issues the bottom line is you have is a fine dining meal at fine dining prices being served by inexperienced young college students. I do not make broad judgments that everyone under the age of 23 is a college student. Our waiter said he was only there for the summer and we over heard another waiter say he was starting college soon. Chez Nous is a casual bistro therefore service wouldn't be that of a formal restaurant but that's no excuse for poor service technique, lack of menu knowledge and/or when a server is asked not being able to answer simple questions about the restaurant. It wasn't just our opinion the service was bad, we over heard two (yes 2) other tables making negative comments about the service. My wife and I made reservations in the afternoon and visited on Friday night. The restaurant is in a house which made for a somewhat disjointed dining room/bar. We were seated on an enclosed porch but nothing about that is meant to imply it was not comfortable. The service was very good and the food was nearly flawless. We both had an app and a half entree. Our apps were both very good. My torchon of foie was great and the sides were perfect. Even the little bit of greens were light dressed and seasoned. Attention to detail. One thing I really like here was the offering of half portions of entrees. I like to have an app and often am overwhelmed by the size of entrees. Here it was perfect. The app was adequately sized and the entree (mine was braised short rib with mashed) was the perfect size to eat the whole thing and not feel uncomfortably stuffed. Which left us room for dessert!! From the moment my husband and I stepped in we were warmly welcomed into a cozy and intimate dining space. The bar had stools made of logs, giving you a feel like you are in a Alpine lodge. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. The olive tapinade and warm rolls they brought out to start were so delicious, i meant to ask if they sold any tapinade in jars to take home. We shared a mixed green salad to start which was excellent, and they split it into two servings without our asking which was very nice. I had the scallops with Ratatouille which was very good and was such a generous portion that I took half of it home with me. My husband had the pepper steak which he said was the most moist and tender meat he had eaten in as long as he could remember. Very French, in all the good ways. They actually serve half portions so you're not rolling out of there too full. Such a civilized concept. The chef is from Brittany, and the food is excellent and unfussy. Friendly and attentive service. A diverse menu without having too many options. Both times I came for dinner, I knew instantly what I wanted, and they were different entrees on different nights. If I'm in the area again, I will be sure to return. read more

The food is excellent and the hospitality is even better. I went for dinner with a bachelorette party of 7 and we were treated wonderfully by our upbeat waitress who made excellent recommendations and clearly knew the seasonal menu very well. When it came time to leave, the restaurant called taxis for us and upon being notified that there was a two hour wait for any taxi, a server and the chef very kindly drove us back to our bed & breakfast. We've eaten at Chez Nous a few times now, and the food is always very good. We have yet to have a bad or even average meal there. For appetizers on our last visit we had Escargot and mushrooms and a Pate selection. The escargot were tender and blended very nicely with the mushrooms. The pate selection is one of my favorite apps. It comes with three selections, rillettes, a coarse country-style Pate, & creamy mousse-like chicken livers. All three are excellent and form a great blend of textures. For our main courses we had bouillabaisse and pan seared trout on a buckwheat crepe. The sauce on the bouillabaisse was a little overpowering for my tastes, but my wife loved it as have others who tried it. The trout was outstanding. A tasty crisp skin covering perfectly cooked flesh. It went really well with the crepe. Service is fine if not welcoming. They always seem a bit overworked, even when it is not that crowded. It is a step down from the real 5 star places. Prices are fair for the quality of the food. Apps are around $10 and main courses cover a wide range of $13 (burger) to about $28. It's some of the best food in Lee and worth a stop. read more

Nice place, the venue has a lot of nooks for good, quiet conversation. Portions are more European sized, but the taste is far larger than the plate. The menu was more eclectic than expected-with delicious Moroccan dishes & others full of local & season produce. The cheese plate was delicious, though slightly smaller than expected. A small touch, but the have sea salt on the tables, which was greatly appreciated. Also appreciated the half sizes. A true find for a flavorful dinner in the area. read more

We had such a great time at Chez Nous last night! And we were not the only ones. The house was full from 6pm, when we checked in to see if we could bump our 7 o'clock reservation to 6 (no, they were fully booked) until we left some time after 9. If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. Between the four of us we tried the foie gras app, the house patè app, the warm calamari salad and the cauliflower and leek soup. I was not crazy about the soup but if truffle oil is not your thing, you might be. The calamari was incredibly tender and my friend thought the vinaigrette was the best she had ever had. I don't think I tried the foie gras but the other patè was delicious. For dinner, three of us had the baby lamb chops with goat cheese polenta. The lamb was so good, I did my best to discreetly get every bit of flavor off those little bones. And the polenta, oh my goodness, the polenta! So creamy, so rich, so amazing! Sigh. The fourth in our party had the filet mignon, which was also very good. For dessert, we sampled espresso chocolate mousse, a macaron and banana cake. The mousse was mine and very good, but so rich that I don't think I ate even half; the other two were good but just not my thing. Our waitress was wonderful, chatting with us a little and getting some information from the chef about a mushroom in one if the dishes that intrigued us. Overall an excellent experience and next time we meet in Lee, I think this will be tops on our list for dinner. read more

I have been to Chez Nous three times, and each time every member of my party loved their meals. I love that the menu changes every few weeks to make the best use of the fresh produce and meats that they order. The third time we went to Chez Nous, we had our intimate 12 person wedding reception in the upstairs function room and I can not say enough good things about our event. The food was, as always, excellent. The service was fast and friendly, the drinks flowed and the cake was amazing! Rachel was so easy to work with and helped to make our laid-back party extra special. Any variety of risotto is a family favorite at Chez Nous, especially when paired with scallops. We also always love the rack of lamb and sirloin. The blondie with ice cream and rum soaked raisins is my favorite guilty pleasure. Don't be turned off by the long wait times during the busy season - it is SO worth it! It is busy for good reason! read more

We visited at the end of August and had a fantastic evening on our last night in the Berkshires. The restaurant is much bigger than I had imagined, and when we walked in I noticed how many people were working there, all buzzing around like a well-oiled machine. That night at least, the different areas of the restaurant seemed to have different vibes. We were first seated in a room with several large and extremely boisterous groups so we quickly asked to be moved, perhaps outside. That was no problem, and outside turned out to be the perfect choice: the tented seating area was relaxing, the temperature was great, there were no bugs, and the outside folks' conversation style better suited our own! :) We totally loved the menu and also the specials: there were so many things calling out to us that we were sad we couldn't try more of them! We found the service delightful and friendly all night, striking a great balance between upscale efficient and western-Mass. casual. When requested, our waiter gave us great suggestions throughout the evening, including wisely suggesting I forgo a starter for dessert! Nice touches abounded, from the unique glassware for the aperitif, through to the homemade liqueur we ended up having with dessert. Our mixed salad had beautifully-fresh and flavourful greens and a well-balanced pomegranate dressing. For main courses we had the lamb chops (with wonderful mint/arugula pesto) and a daily special, bouillabaisse (deep-flavoured, with tender seafood and tasty bites of fennel). Our waiter took time to consult whether two different half-bottles of wine would best accompany our two main courses, or whether a single bottle could pair well with both (we went with a single bottle). Throughout the meal we enjoyed great homemade breads, including whole-wheat, and delicious butter. For dessert (glad I skipped a starter) I had Lemon-Lavender Posset, a creamy custardy concoction that reminded me a little of a slightly more delicate panna cotta. I don't remember really tasting the lavender, but the lemon flavour was gorgeous and the texture was sooooo smooth and delicious. A little piece of shortbread gave some nice contrast. The Chocolate-Espresso Mousse Torte had intense chocolate flavour, and the salty caramel sauce combined beautifully with the unsweetened whipped cream. Our meal was relaxed and enjoyable. As 2 wannabe Montreal foodies on an outlet shopping spree, we were not expecting to find fantastic French food in Lee, MA....we were pleasantly surprised! The restaurant (slash inn?) is situated in what looks to be a large clapboard house complete with vestibule and hallway with the restaurant seating in a what appears to be a covered terrace off to the side. The older patrons and schmaltzy and decidedly un-French decor had us a little worried...but none of that will matter when you taste the food. The home-made warm bread and olive tampenade were delicious enough for 2 girls who regularly pass on bread to eat an entire basket. The menu and nightly "chef's suggestions" had just enough options to make us wish we could try everything. In the end we both opted for beet soup which was hot, creamy and satisfying and I had the bavette de boeuf with homemade sweet potato fries and seasonal vegetables. My meat was pink and tender and the fries were perfectly prepared. My friend's tuna steak elicited its fair share of "mmmm's" as well. We were, unfortunately too full for dessert but had tea which we were pleased to see was served as loose tea leaves. It was a bit pricy - 90$ for 2 incl tax and tip with no wine or drinks - but worth it! read more

We were fans of Chez Nous, which has been replaced by the new restaurant by the old people with more of a small plate, share dish philosophy. The food was equally as good as the old was and we will certainly continue to come back on our way to and from Albany. Pros: Cozy and quiet atmosphere. Food was excellent. I had the in house made pate appetizer which was terrific. My husband had the Cucumber soup with goat cheese which he also enjoyed. We also like the fact they offer half portions on all their main dishes. We had the half portions of the swordfish and the rack of lamb. Everything was done well. Although a bit of a drive from our home, this is our favourite restaurant in the area. The food is consistently good, authentically French, and priced reasonably. Their homemade pâté and relishes are delicious. For my wife, the fact that Chez Nous offers half portions at half price is spot on. Their desserts are usually spectacular and irresistible! read more

OK, so food in the Berkshires is usually nothing to write home about. This place is no exception, but it is a touch better than the standard mediocre stuff you can end up with at a lot of places around here. This is certainly the fanciest place in town, and the food is pretty decent, if overpriced. The setting is a little bizarro (in a converted house on Lee's main drag) and the dining rooms are tiny (but in a good way). Weekend reservations are a must. We had a really fabulous truly French meal at this place in November 2008...so fabulous that the other less than positive yelp reviews are almost confusing. I had rainbow trout with buckwheat mushroom crepe, and my partner had a complicated roast duck dish..great appetizers...decent (and inexpensive) wine by the glass. why they lost a star 1) I totally agree that the deportment of the interior space and decor is not French, and at the very least "bizarro". 2) They also had several items on the drink menu that stuck out like sore thumbS: Harvey's Bristol Creme, and Grey Goose are among these. But, to be fair, as soon as the parties at the tables next to us were seated these are what they ordered to drink (so the props probably have these on hand to please the local clientele). 3) New England/French? desserts read more

In a resort area such as the Berkshires, one always has to brace oneself for the prices in high season. By serving half-portions of the major entrees, Chez Nous seems to balance well the desire for good dining with the desire not to mortgage the family farm. Our party of four was thus pleased to choose a soup, salad or other starter along with a half portion of the swordfish, filet mignon, or scallops main course. All were well prepared. This was accompanied by a nice bottle of Graves as we dined on the summer porch. Very pleasant and we congratulated ourselves on the French attitude toward portion size. (Perhaps our teenaged sons would have been less enthralled by the trade-off had they been along.) read more

Whoa! Gluten-free paradise! Not knowing anything about this restaurant in advance of going, I was totally shocked when we arrived and there was such a focus on gluten-free cooking. It was so great having so many dishes to choose from, instead of just choosing from the one or two naturally gluten free options like I do at most places. And everything I ate was DELICIOUS. We went almost a week ago now, and I am still waking up in the morning thinking about duck confit, their salmon dish with local grain "cous cous", and the gluten free cookie plate, which was so amazing! I went with a group of 7, and hands-down, we all loved everything we ate. We cleaned every plate, and were eager to share our meals with each other as they were just so good we had to make sure others could see what we were all oohing and ahhing over. My best stolen bites of food came from my mom's appetizer of rillettes and pates - wow, all three were sensational. I could eat those every day of my life, and never get sick of them. I'm not sure what to say about the service, since there were so many mishaps along the way that it was truly comical to a table full of food service veterans. However, this was not lost on the owner who was hosting that evening, and she more than made up for all mistakes made and was extremely apologetic. It was clear that she was SO embarrassed, which makes me think that it was probably very unusual for the service to fall apart as it did that evening. So no stars off for service, as I think not only did we get them on a truly bad night, but mostly because they knew how to fix the situation, which many places do not. An incredible attention to detail and very friendly staff and hosts! I was a bit leery of walking into a French Restaurant without knowing a bit of the menu (being a vegetarian, it gets tough finding GOOD places with selections) So I messaged them on facebook, and guess what, I got a private message telling me the specials that were vegetarian! That's pretty cool IMHO. So I got there, had my choice of the bar or small table and I loved every bit of my meal, from the fresh soup to the risotto style main dish with delicious bits of butternut and sundried tomatoes, and topped off with fresh chamomile tea and a pumpkin cake. An old fashioned home with good service and very good food. I had scallops with asparagus. The scallops were small but plentiful and well cooked. I would have preferred a sparkling modern decor, white table clothes, cushioned booths and more sophisticated waitresses. LOVED this place! Went with my sister (definitely best for adults), and we had a great experience. The overall vibe of the place is warm and cozy -- elegant without being stuffy. We started with the pate plate, which didn't disappoint. I had never had onion chutney like the one they served, and it was yummy. We also had salad, which was fresh and delicious - loved the apple cider vinagrette. What's really nice is that they offer half-plates, so if you're not ready for a HUGE meal, or you want to try a few smaller things among the table and share, it's a nice option. I had the half-portion of the mushroom polenta, and it was great. (Its unusual for me to go to a fancy restaurant and order vegetarian, but it sounded so good... and didn't disappoint.) My sister had the lamb chops, which were flavorful and tender. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I were in the area and looking for something a little more grown-up than Barbecue (which is often a favorite when traveling). We decided to dine on the porch, which was ok. It was buggy and I know it was the evening and it was my choice. But I probably won't sit outside again. I had heard great things and thought i was going to have a great dinner. The food was ok. We started with the cheese plate which was good. Then had the lamb chop, they were were small and not that great. They were cooked to the temperature we asked. The filet was overcooked but not to bad. It had good flavor. Everything about this restaurant was top notch. First, let me begin with our server, William. He was an amazing server! Extremely on top of everything, funny, helpful, attentive and just an overall nice guy. He was serving 6 other tables and was still able to be as attentive as he was. Next, most importantly, the meals my family and I ordered were outstanding. We ordered the spring salad and every vegetable in it had a crisp, delectable flavor brought out by the vinaigrette. Next we had the artisanal cheese plate with three cheeses (Brie, goat cheese, and cheddar). Each had its own unique flavor, especially paired with the fruit chutney spread on toasted bread. For the main course we each ordered the same item, which was the sirloin steak dish. PERFECTLY cooked with an amazing sauce and paired with seasonal veggies. It was to die for. Lastly, we ordered a sticky toffee pudding; simply amazing. Overall, I can't say enough great things about Chez Nous. It was an awesome dining experience and I highly recommend it to anyone near the Lee area. read more

A delightful place. Cozy and welcoming on a frigid January night, and they correctly pronounced my partner's name. We had a mushroom soup which was wonderfully earthy and tasty. When we told our local B&B owner that we were dining at Chez Nous, he said 'you're in for a treat'. So our expectations were high and we were not disappointed. Chez Nous offers both full and small portions which allows a broader sampling of its varied menu. I opted for a small Pan-Seared Scallops with Creamy Black Truffle Vinaigrette and Spring veggies along with a side of steamed spinach. Perfect! Three of us shared CN's Signature dessert, Blondie Sundae with Sea Salted Caramel AND Flourless Chocolate Devastation Cake with Mint Ice Cream, Chocolate Crunch. Wow! Both were exceptional! The only hiccup in the evening was our waitress, who presented us with the Specials during the dessert course and disappeared at the end of the meal. Fortunately the excellent wait staff rushed to fill in when they realized our predicament. So for this one evening 4 stars, any other could be 5! read more

Another delightful meal at Chez Nous on a crisp New England weekend in October. Frank and Rachel have accommodated the need for covid-19 social distancing, by setting up a variety of outside seating arrangements. The pandemic has not affected the quality of the food. Two of us had the cassoulet, one the house-made ravioli, and one meat-eater opted for the rack of lamb. Has been quite some time since I had cassoulet, and it lived up to memories of eating it in bistros in France. Just the right thing on a cool night - the beans, smoked ham and sausage. The ravioli and lamb, and starters of soup and pate, got equally high marks. The restaurant is closing soon for the winter and we look forward to welcoming them back in the spring. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday night without reservations..by chance they had a cancelation, but otherwise we probably wouldn't have been able to have dinner without one. We ordered drinks and a cheese plate...all looked good. But the service went downhill fast...the server kept looking at us, but seemingly ignoring us. Our food took forever to come out - some guests had come in after us, and we're already eating their meal. The manager came by to ask how everything was, and after we requested it, she said she'd check on the food. My wine glass had been empty for a while, and she didn't address it until my husband pointed it out. She said she'd pour the next one complementary. The food wasn't great...and to top it off, the check took forever to come. We weren't in a rush, but my stomach started to feel funny. Needless to say, I went home and threw up my entire meal a few hours later. Horrible experience, especially considering it was our first night on our mini-honeymoon. Incredibly disappointed that I was sick all night, instead of cuddling sweetly with my new husband. read more

Groundhog Day... we were seated at the same table, scallops were the highlight, and we enjoyed a good red wine.
