When salad came it came with onions When I told the waiter I asked for no onions he took it away and when it came back it has anchovies. Oh boy. My husbands dish was tasty but the chicken was dry. We have enjoyed Chez Nous many times over the years and last night was no exception. The good times start with the quiet ambiance. It feels so civilized and relaxed without loud music blaring all evening. The warm rolls with butter tasted like they were baked special for you. Server Mark did his best to refill the bread basket and accommodate us in any way possible. The cauliflower/leek soup topped with walnut oil and scallions, piping hot, was big enough to share. The SMALL PLATES menu is ideal. My husband had baby lamb chops cooked to perfection, as was my duck. We were able to substitute some of the side dishes, enabling me to have the best French fries with aioli and my husband to enjoy a sweet potato pudding. For dessert - of course we shared- the flourless chocolate cake with ginger ice-cream and a milk chocolate crunch. I suggest small plates for desserts. Why not? It works for the main course. We had an enjoyable dinner hear during the week. The staff was extremely attentive and pleasant. A lentil and porcini soup was excellent, as were the raw oysters. A coq au vin was good, not great. We stayed in the Lee, MA for two nights and we ate at Chez Nous BOTH nights! That's how much we enjoyed the food, service and ambiance of Chez Nous. We looked through many reviews before choosing Chez Nous and asked friends for recommendations. Chez Nous was at the top of the list. The staff was warm and friendly and the dining area was warm too. We were happy to meet owner/pastry chef Rachel who spoke to us about wine choices and her delicious desserts. The half plate options were fabulous so that we could enjoy two of the entree choices. The food was top-notch and we still rave about the duck with chocolate and cherry wine sauce. Every entree was delicious and served perfectly. We eat here often because the food, ambiance and service are consistently excellent. My wife and I shared a tasty salad and she had a delicious lamb shank for a main course. I had a delicious duck cooked to perfection with an unusual orange and chocolate sauce. For dessert we shared a lemon posset (custard) and a macaroon shortcake with berries. It was possible to have 2 desserts because I had a half portion of the duck, something available for most entrees though not the lamb shank. The chef is always accommodating about substitutions since my wife is gluten free and I prefer vegetables to rice or potatoes. They also have gluten-free rolls which my wife loves especially with the olive oil they will provide. All in all a most enjoyable and relaxing evening at a reasonable price! read more

I had the cod and my husband had the scallops and then we shared the dark chocolate and hazelnut fudge cake with ice cream - to die for! Out-Standing!! Authentic!! Unbelievably Good!!! After having such a horrible brunch experience at Aiello's in Lee, my husband & I were unsure about having an expensive dinner in the same area. However, Chez Nous is worth every penny!!! My husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner, in a quite corner of this adorable establishment. Their service is incredible. The waitress was professional attentive, and knowledgeable about their food and wine selections. Their French cuisine is authentic and delicious. Every aspect of this meal, from the wine, to the Bouillabaisse, to the Marscapone Tart was just divine!! My husband was happy with everything he ordered as well. Went there late Friday night after long travel day. Excellent food and service. We've been going there for several years and have always been pleased. Perfect way to start a week vacation in the Berkshires. Half size portions are great if you're having a late dinner or just want to have room for great starters and dessert. I had dinner there December 3, 2010. The owner came over to greet us (Rachel) and was very friendly, helpful. Prices are on the high side, but when you consider you are getting good home made food, you have to appreciate it. Many chains give you pre-frozen or pre-cooked meals that get a sprinkle of parsley after they're warmed up. My dining companion had a seafood meal (I don't like fish) but said it was great. I forget what I specifically had, but it was free range chicken, fresh vegetables, and a pasta with a sauce that had parsnips in it. It was very tasty. I also have a somewhat indecisive stomach and was thrilled not to get any indigestion from this meal. Coffee was excellent, the home made chocolate tart by Rachel was incredible. We did not have any appetizers. With a cocktail for each of us, splitting a dessert and the entrees, dinner was about $100. The home made bread was very good. read more

We were visiting Berkshires and Chez Nous was suggested as one of the better restaurants in the area. We didn't have reservations, which we should have. We walked in around 5:50 pm on Sunday. The maitre de (not very friendly) asked if we reserved. He said he could sit us at bar, or, would be willing to seat us if we could be out by 7:20 for a 7:30 seating. We sat. The good part was that the food was excellent. I had sirloin steak that came with haricot vert and sweet potato fries..Cooked medium/rare. Exceptional taste. My husband had duck that had light kumquat sauce. For dessert just had a buttermilk biscuit with strawberries which was light. We were out of there by 7:00 pm which was the time people did start to come in. Suggestion is to make reservations in advance..so you are treated better when you arrive! read more

My husband and I stayed in a B&B nearby and came here for our anniversary dinner. We were so impressed! It was small inside, and a bit crowded, but certainly romantic. The food and service were outstanding! I have celiac's disease, and was so impressed with their gluten free options. They offered warm dinner rolls, toast with our cheese platter and even delicious gluten free desserts. We both had the filet, and they were wonderful. The wine list was decent, and my husband was very happy with our red wine. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful, and the manager checked in with us throughout dinner. We had made reservations for our anniversary, and they even wrote "happy anniversary" in chocolate on our dessert plate -- a very special touch. We have been to Chez Nous multiple times over 15 years and it continues to delight. It is our go-to restaurant in the Berkshires. Whether simple steak or short ribs, lamb tagine, shank or stew, duck breast or on the bone, chicken, salmon,trout or cod, each of which we've had in a variety of preparations from time to time, the food has always satisfied so very deeply. Franck is simply a genius with his sauces, reductions, accompaniments and sides. And the desserts do not take a back seat - they absolutely sparkle. Rachel has experimented with different flavors over the years and although I am a confirmed chocoholic (and her chocolate desserts are awesome), I can't resist her einkorn desserts either. I also taste the variety of non-chocolate desserts my wife prefers - all wonderful. The wine list offers some gems as well as a number of lesser but solid wines as well, all reasonably priced. The service is warm, careful and attentive. If I sound like a groupie, perhaps I am. But if you go, I suspect you will become one also. read more

First off, I'm picky about food and the places I eat when I dine out. I've traveled to many parts of the world and eaten in five star restaurants with food prepared by world class chefs. So understand that what I'm about to write is based on a lot of experience sampling dishes prepared by the masters. I recently returned from a weekend at Tanglewood and the Inn where I was staying recommended Chez Nous and even called ahead to let them know I was coming. Given that this is the height of the summer season and with no reservation, I was skeptical about getting in but upon arriving, I was told that there would be a seat at the bar. Sure enough, within a minute, I was seated. Even though the restaurant was packed, Randi my server, was as gracious and polite as someone could be under those circumstances (she was not only taking orders at the bar but helping the staff with wine and other assorted orders for tablegoers). In fact, as I discovered over the course of the evening, this is a first class wait and table staff that treats everyone with care and dignity. You don't find that in many restaurants these days and it is something I care a lot about. I started off ordering the House pate with a G&T - smooth, tasty and fresh. Some of the best pate I've ever had and the bread that went with it was superb. I honestly thought about ordering a second portion, it was that good! For an entree, I ordered veal tenderloin. I asked Randi if they chef could cook it medium but on the rare side. Well, they must have been reading my mind because it was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy and oh so great! I couldn't have asked for a better dish. For dessert, I was encouraged to try the dark chocolate mousse. Being a chocoholic, it took me all of five seconds to agree. The mousse came with a carmel sauce, a bit salty for me but it really brought out the flavor. This was as light and flavorful a mousse as I have ever tasted. Rachel, who is co-owner of Chez Nous and bakes the desserts explained how she has really perfected this dessert over time and wow, it shows. If you love chocolate, order this dessert. You'll be in for a treat. Finally, a word about the staff. They work hard to make this a culinary experience you won't soon forget. Chez Nous isn't just a restaurant; it is like visiting a home in Paris or Fountainbleau where the hosts go to great lengths to make sure you are happy with your meal. As an example, you can eat gluten free, vegan or just about any combination that will fit your dietary needs. I don't know why anyone would say anything negative about Chez Nous. This is ideal if you aren't picky, or have dietary restrictions, but they were pretty accommodating for me! Prix fixe is on Thursday nights, one seating. And their choice of wine is included! Grabbed a bite before attending The Pillow. Had fine meal! You should reserve table, especially on a weekend. Atmosphere was cozy. service v good. Ordered the mix of pâtés as starter and it was great, but just not 100% like that in France. Think a true French mix would probably include fois GRAS, too. The 3 pâtés were v v tasty. Then, main course. WHat a nice option-you can order 1/2 serving. Great idea! Had to eat early to get to Jacob's Pillow and we were not that hungry. My friend ordered short ribs -tasty and tender. My entree was salmon. Well prepared. We had no time for dessert, alas! Give Chez Nous a try! You will get a good meal. read more
