I stopped here for lunch. It is cafeteria style with an ipad ordering system. I liked having the option to peruse the menu on the ipad and take my time ordering without speaking to staff. I tried the pad Thai. It was average. I thought it should have been spicier. It did not have any spice options like other places have. I also got the fresh spring rolls. They were pre made and plastic wrapped. They were huge. The lettuce was no longer crunchy and did not taste very fresh. We also tried the pork bun. This was tasty but about average. We also tried the small chicken pho. The size was really big and we ended up taking more than half home. I enjoyed the broth and chicken. This was my favorite dish that I tried. I tried the frozen boba drinks and they were really good. I tried the Thai tea boba, the milk tea boba, and the Taro boba. The Thai tea flavor was my favorite. The taro tea was too sweet for me and I could only have a little because of this. The pricing overall was decent. I don't usually write reviews but I have to write one Bc I hope the owner would see this. The spring rolls here aren't even spring rolls , they just use imitation crabs with very very cold noodles. It's just wrong , I took my friends here who aren't even Vietnamese and they said "we feel offended bc these spring rolls are wrong in many levels" The pho portion is big but you can taste the MSG sweetness and the aftertaste on your tongue. I wanted a quick bowl of pho in the area, and this delivered! When entering the store I realized you order through a kiosk. I went to wash my hands after I placed my beef pho order, and by the time I came back it was already waiting for me. The staff calls out your order number when it's ready. I can't believe I just discovered this place! A coworker told me this was their favorite pho in all of KC. I knew I had to try it because I absolutely love pho. This place is a little hidden on the backside of a shopping center and easily missed if you aren't looking for it. It is located right next to an Asian market. When we walked it, it was pretty busy but nothing crazy. You instantly smell all the spices they use in the kitchen which smell amazing. We walked up to the counter to order. They use one of those kiosk machines to order which is actually super easy to place your order on. The kiosk prints a receipt which has your order number on it. We found a table and waited for our numbers to be called. We probably waited about 15 minutes for our orders, nothing super crazy. I got the beef pho and O M G. It was so flavorful and delicious! It was packed with beef and noodles and the broth was amazing. Everyone at my table had a little bite of each others and each dish was better than the next. After about 30 minutes we noticed that the line to order almost stretched to the back of the restaurant. It was so busy! The noise level never got crazy loud despite the number of people in the restaurant. That pho was so freaking good and without a doubt I will be going back! I would just expect a busy crowd if you are going for lunch as their lunch hour seems to get pretty slammed. read more

Great hole in the wall for a quick lunch if you're in the mood for Vietnamese and Korean food. They have a lot of options and you get your food pretty quickly after ordering it from the kiosk. It doesn't look like much on the inside or out but if all you care about is the food this place is pretty delicious. Authentically delicious. Cafe vie was a wonderful discovery by my friend and I during a leisurely lunch. I had the pas Thai (amazing) and she has the seafood pho (also a good choice). You can tell that each dish is prepared individually and that the staff put their all into that food. It was very good and unlike a regular chain restaurant serving up Asian dishes. The place was clean with a big open kitchen. There's room for a couple of larger (10ish) groups and lots of individual tables. We came during lunch rush when it was pretty busy and we still got our food in a decent amount of time. We are definitely coming back and will bring new friends! read more

Cafe Vie is quite possibly one of my favorite places to eat, and my friends and I frequent here pretty often. We have tried almost all of the menu and it's all extremely delicious, but the pho is what makes this place special all on its own. They have chicken pho, beef pho and seafood pho, all of which are good, but I usually get the beef. They also have a ton of condiments and extras available for no extra cost so you can customize your pho to your liking. Service is usually fast, though sometimes it can take a bit to get your food, but it's worth it every time. Ambience wise this place is definitely a little bit of a hole in the wall type place, but don't let that fool you because the food is delicious and the place is always super clean. The pho servings are so big! Went here with some friends and it was pretty good! The process is self-order; they have a machine towards the front where you put in your order, and then they'll call out your number when it's ready. I ordered the medium beef pho and it was the size of my hands!! Ok, my hands aren't the biggest, but the serving portion was generous for the price (and this was the smaller option as well). Overall, the flavor was good! The beef was a little on the tougher side, but I still really enjoyed my meal! This place is also a little far from where I live, so I wouldn't always make the drive to come out, but worth visiting every now and then. My hubby and I have high expectations for pad Thai and pad see ew. I ordered the pad Thai combo (chicken, beef, and shrimp) which was DELISH! The hubby ordered the pad see ew with chicken. The pad Thai combo had good flavor, but little to no spice. However, the restaurant had chili oil and chili paste that you can add to your dish. The chili paste was yum and added the right amount of kick. Of all the meat in the combo, the shredded chicken was my least favorite as it didn't have much flavor in my opinion. Hubby said he liked the pad see ew but preferred the chicken have more flavor. He liked my pad Thai better, but his was good. The mango mochi was frozen when we got it, but after waiting until after we ate our entrees, it was the right consistency and really flavorful! I've been here several times and have tried various items. I like to come here to get Asian food that is quick and cheap that is decent quality. I usually get spicy pork or bulgogi with rice. The last several times, I feel like the portions have gotten slightly smaller, but I still enjoy the food. It comes out quick and it's not hard on the wallet. My only gripe would be the cleanliness around the restaurant and the quality of the food (maybe it comes out too quick). I do not mean taste because it taste fine, but I think the way it is prepared could be refined. In my pho, I usually find pieces of fat that haven't been dissolved in my soup dish. Other than that, I would keep going. It's good, cheap, quick comfort food for me. I think they could refine their ingredients and increase the cleanliness, but overall wholesome food that is affordable. read more

When you see a Asian restaurant next to the oriental market you have some high hopes. This place did not let us down. I ordered pad Thai and my friend ordered the bulgogi with rice. The portion amount was a great size and the flavors were on point. When you step into the restaurant you walk up to an iPad where you can input your order, and then you wait for your number to be called. Upon walking in, you can grab a table and order at a kiosk. I personally found this convenient because there were several kiosks around the space and I wasn't rushed to order. I had beef pad thai. Although the serving portions were massive for the price, it didn't have a very strong flavor. They also didn't call my number when my food was ready, so my food was sitting at the pick up for a good few minutes while my friend was eating. Got some pho here following a recommendation. The food is excellent. We purchased the beef and the chicken to go. Portion size for the large is huge! The food was delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was delicious. We will be back. A couple caveats to avoid issues. Ignore the prices on Yelp. The prices are higher, as they are everywhere, but still fair, which is not the case everywhere. The other is finding the restaurant the first time can be confusing. They do not front Metcalf but are behind the center near the Conoco gas station. read more

Very good pho, the down side was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The tray that my bowl came on was dirty. Tables were sticky and walls had splatter marks. We tried the egg rolls which I would not recommend they were super small and the inside was cold. Looks like they are frozen and they just heat them up. Normally my favorite place to go, sadly today was a vary poor experience, I'm sure it was just busy, but could barely hear the call outs for numbers, got up to get my food and 2 hipsters took my chair as soon as I stood up. Was vary confrontational and no one said anything to them. Management clearly doesn't care. Patronage has gone to the toilet. Not a calm place to go. Not terrible, but not wonderful. Here I am traveling as usual, and it was just cold enough for a pho-fix. I had ramen last week, and was craving that special, fragrant broth that is a signature of such tasty Vietnamese goodness. Well, finding a pho place in Olathe/Overland Park isn't such an easy task. I headed over to Cafe Vie on a recommendation from a friend that lives nearby. Upon entry, I was confused as what to do, where to go and all those idiosyncrasies that trouble us so. Yeah, there's a sign off in the distance that says "ORDER HERE", but then I notice an electronic kiosk to order, but it's not really nearby the "ORDER HERE" sign. Meh, I understand with COVID protocols and such. Still a little confusing. With order placed on the computing device, I waited a bit and started noticing the mishmash of tables, chairs, and other oddball items in this place. It's not a negative, but just an observation. Order up a couple minutes later, I head up and grab the tray with my pho and spring rolls on it. The self-serve water dispenser is a touch minor league, but again... I'm ok with it due to the newfound protocols in place, and I'm sure there's a cost savings related. The broth wasn't as fragrant or as flavorful as I've had elsewhere, but it was definitely hot and edible. The accompanying herbs and vegetables were fresh and aplenty. The spring rolls were "meh" at best, with a couple pieces of krab (sic: with a "K"). I'd pass on them the next time. All in all, my fat gut was satiated, but aside from this review, you may never hear me talk about this place again. It was edible, and it filled my gut. read more

Never again. Y'all have to do better. This is one of the worst places to ever serve beef pho. They only served one cut of beef meat and the meat was the toughest pho meat I've ever had. I actually went back to the kitchen area and told them that they forgot the other cuts and that the meat isn't right but I guess that's their normal pho dish. This place is awesome! There is Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai. You order at the counter and you get your food when it's ready. Their pho is great. Also, their bulgogi bun is delicious. The only drawback is that you have to bus your own food but you save in tips so it's not so bad. Portions are huge as well. Can't go wrong! read more

Our order: Jjampong, tofu pad Thai, fried spring rolls, and veggie steamed bun My partner and I went and he ordered jjampong and I ordered fried veggie spring roll, veggie steamed bun, and tofu pad thai. We ordered to go but ate there and we really appreciated how neatly and cleanly everything was packaged. My partner loved his meal and there was enough left over for a second meal, banchan was appreciated. I quickly got full from just the fried spring rolls and bun and haven't eaten my pad thai, but it was very delicious and I wish I ordered a second bun. I saw another comment say the msg was noticeable and I see what they mean, I taste the sweetness of it in my pad Thai. i also taste what feels like pre mixed season packets, similar to what you would find in convenice. Store ramen in the pad Thai so I will be seasoning it myself at home. I will most likely turn my pad Thai to noodle soup at home because the noodles were a bit soggy and kind of mushy and the whole dish kind of stuck together (not too bad thing for me, I am still happy and will add some different seasonings and flavours at home in a soup, but I wanted to add for others who order here and expect some al dente noodles and clean homemade sauce, you will not get that here). Cafe Vie changed a lot (like this place was a whole lot bigger) since I was last year four years ago. My previous review was based on their milk tea, but this updated review would be based on the food I ate here. I don't update my reviews often so there would need to be a good reason to do so. I came around 12:15pm on a Friday with two of my coworkers. There were a lot of people here but we still found a table. Just FYI, you will order at the encounter, pay and wait for your order to be called. You bring your food back to your table and clean up after yourself where they have an area to place your plates/bowls. So it's obviously up to you if you want to add tip when you pay. Each table would comfortably fit one person but two can squeeze on the same side. I ordered the large Beef Pho ($9.99 and $7.99 for a medium) and ordered the Bulgogi Wrap ($5.99) and the Beef Bulgogi rice dish ($7.99) for a to-go order. It took a while before my food was ready. The plate it was one was a weird shape to have such a large bowl. The Beef Pho's broth was blazing hot that I burnt my tongue. It took a while before I was able to taste the flavor of the broth. The broth was not bad but I've tasted better. My coworker was raving that this was the best broth but I will need to disagree. The large Beef Pho had a lot of noodles and I almost didn't finish it. The meat was good but I had more fatty pieces than my two coworkers. The Beef Bulgogi rice dish tasted okay even as a to-go order and the same applied to the Bulgogi Wrap. I bet it would taste better if it was fresh versus a to-go order (as with all foods). 3.5 stars. The food here was good. read more

We tried the Yang Yeom chicken covered in a Korean and Chinese fusion sweet and sour sauce with a bowl of white rice. The chicken was covered in too much of this sauce. I was not a big fan. It was a little spicy and bit sweet for my preference. It reminds me of Buffalo Wild Wing Asian Zing sauce. I like the other dishes on their menu compared to this dish. read more

A few tweaks could give Cafe Vie a solid 4 or 5 stars. ATMOSPHERE: Cafe Vie is in a strip mall complex. Its seating area is a single large room with TVs around the walls. Complimentary wifi is provided. SERVICE: Everything here is self service. You order at the counter and pick it up when your number is called. When you're done you leave your dirty dishes on a rack by the kitchen. One little complaint is they forgot to make my boba tea, and I had to ask where it was. FOOD: This part was a bit of a mixed bag. I got their beef pho, which was flavorful and a large portion. You can pick either a medium or large, and the medium was huge. You'd need the appetite of the Hulk to finish the large. One thing about the pho which disappointed me was the meager amount of bean sprouts. I've visited so many Vietnamese restaurants that I expected more than the half handful Cafe Vie provided. As an appetizer I also got their spring rolls. Again, the taste was spot on, but the presentation was strange. It came out as two long spring rolls, and they didn't bother to slice them in half, which is characteristic of so many Vietnamese establishments (and other Asian restaurants as well). My taro boba tea tasted great, but the boba themselves were hard and nearly frozen. As a finisher I got coffee mochi ice cream. These were obviously taken straight out of a freezer package and were rock hard, so I had to wait a while for them to soften up before eating. VALUE: Perhaps the biggest redeeming grace here. Cafe Vie's prices are very reasonable for the portions, so I'd still be willing to return. read more
