Cafe Wang in downtown La Verne is delicious and has an affordable lunch special for $15.00 that actually feels like a great deal. The lunch menu is honestly hard to beat-lots of options, generous portions, fresh ingredients, and prices that make you do a double take in the best way. Every plate comes out hot, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can tell the kitchen takes real pride in the food, not just rushing things out. I tried the lunch special combo and was seriously impressed. The orange chicken entrée was perfectly cooked--rich, savory, and well-seasoned without being overly fried or greasy. The white rice was fluffy and fresh, and the egg roll made the meal feel complete rather than an afterthought. The iced tea was cold, sweet, and tasty as well. You also get a good variety to choose from, so it's easy to find something you'll love whether you're into classic favorites or more traditional dishes. Service is quick and efficient, which makes it perfect for a lunch break. The staff stays friendly and keeps things moving without making you feel rushed. Great service, but unfortunately they do not have all you can eat anymore. She said it was just a summer promotion. We had two of their combo special, which came with the soup, a side, an entrée and a carb that was really good and better than we expected. Not your typical panda express type of food but more elevated. Ambience was casual and more American style than Asian, but we enjoyed our time. It was not crowded at all. A good spot for groups as well.

After trying a few burger places nearby in Pomona, we were on our way back to the hotel after Anime impulse and wanted to try some Chinese fusion. This restaurant is really aesthetically pleasing and in a really cute quaint "Main Street" type area. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly and he was patient while he waited to take our order. I tried the Orange Chicken dinner that came with egg drop soup, egg roll, pork wonton, salad, fried rice, and orange chicken. The prices were comparable to other spots, and the food was really good! My youngest son got the Kung pao chicken plate and my oldest got the walnut shrimp and they absolutely loved it! Definitely going to keep this place in mind anytime we are near Pomona

Came on a Saturday evening after Asian American Expo at the Fairplex. Saw the AYCE menu and headed over. Unfortunately, on Saturdays it ends at 4 PM So our family ordered the Wonton Soup (large), Fried Rice with mIx of proteins (chicken, beef, and shrimp), Beef & Broccoli, and Xiao Long Bao. I was thrown off a bit as the beef & broccoli came out before the wonton soup. The service was attentive and helpful The wonton soup had a good flavor as it had seaweed and small shrimp added. My kids really liked the fried rice as it had lots of beef, chicken, and shrimp. Overall, it was good Chinese food, not overly greasy.

Hubby and I tried Cafe Wang for the first time tonight after local groups recommendations. They had an AYCE deal going on for $23.99 with unlimited rounds of five options at a time per table. It was a nice way to try a variety of their menu options especially since they served half orders for the AYCE. Half portions were perfect for us because we wanted to try a little of everything. Their orange chicken was good as was their sweet and sour pork. Hubby really liked their honey walnut shrimp. The bbq porch bun was pretty good and we loved their mixed veggies side, cucumber salad side, veggie springs rolls and the star of the show was their kung pao tofu. Room for improvement: menu cleanliness. They were very sticky. Also our table had some rice crumbs from prior guests.

AYCE menu, you can order 5 things per round. Do not expect big trays that you can walk and go get things by yourself. Dim sum and soup are worst. Service is so slow since there is only 1 server for whole floor. AYCE is 23.99$, this is nightmare

Stopped by around 3:30 PM on a Monday, so it was pretty quiet. There was one female server handling the entire floor and I was the only person at the bar/counter, with just a couple other tables seated. Despite that, service was attentive and friendly. Ordered the Black Pepper Beef combination with fried rice (+$2.50). The combo comes with egg drop soup, one egg roll, one gyoza, and a small salad, which is a solid amount of food for the price. Food breakdown: *Black pepper beef: Good flavor but a bit on the salty side for my taste. 4/5 *Fried rice: Slightly bland, could use more seasoning. 3/5 *Egg roll: Definitely tastes prepackaged, but still crispy and surprisingly enjoyable. 4/5 *Egg drop soup: A little underwhelming, feels like it's missing something, though I'm no expert on how it should taste. 3/5 *Gyoza: Decent, nothing special. 3/5 *Salad: Very meh -- spring mix with what tastes like cheap ranch. 2/5 I also ordered a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned, which was actually a highlight. The bartender explained they normally use a house-made brown syrup, Angostura bitters, Peychaud's bitters, and an orange peel. I asked them to hold the Peychaud's, and the drink came out great. Nice big cube, well-balanced, and smooth. 5/5 A couple downsides: There were quite a few fruit flies behind the counter, which was noticeable and took away from the experience a bit. On the plus side, they've got a cool AMI jukebox, which adds to the vibe. Overall, solid spot for a casual meal and a well-made cocktail. Food is hit-or-miss, but service and drinks definitely help bring the experience up.

First time eating here after COVID and the menu changed a lot. I feel lots of items got taken off. The service is good and also seems to have plenty of seats. The food is authentic, but some items on the small portion side. I really love their Stir Fried Chicken w.Hot Pepper, it's one of my favorite dish.

I think Fusion means - can't quite get it right...Looks like dishes Ive eaten over the years but it's not the same flavor! Sorry but disappointed - I was hoping for some good Cantonese Chinese food in La Verne. (like Upper House in Claremont but has closed). The only dish that was spot on here was the Shui-Mai. I will continue my search but not in La Verne.

I came here with my mom after an appointment and saw that they had xiao long bao on their menu. We got xiao long bao ($13), chicken chow mein ($16), popcorn chicken ($9), Mongolian beef ($23), hot and sour soup ($6 for a small), and sauteed green bean ($18). The xiao long bao had a thin wrapper but it was a bit dry. It was seasoned nicely and it came with a small dish of black vinegar to dip into. The chow mein was ok, it had a good amount of chicken and it was light on the seasoning. I did like the popcorn chicken which was crispy and had a good portion size, it did remind me of Taiwanese style popcorn chicken at boba drink places. It came with a side of sweet chili sauce. The sauteed green beans were cooked enough and not too salty. The small size of hot and sour soup was good for two people, broth was nicely seasoned. The Mongolian beef ($23) was tender with chunks of jalapenos, bell peppers, and sliced onions. Lots of bits of dried chili in it, the spice level was not hot. The staff was nice, we went there an hour before closing and everything came quickly. They do have a bar and the lighting is dim inside.

Cafe Wang is and Chinese Fusion and Bar restaurant. It's located in Old Town La Verne on D Street, a block from the University. I have been here a handful of times, and every time I go, it is a quick and delightful experience. They open at 11:30 during the week, just in time to take a work lunch! They have a pretty solid and standard Chinese food menu. They do have lunch specials, but if you are coming with friends or family, their regular plates are family style, so you do get A LOT of food to share. The service is quick, and always checking on you. My top 3 mains I usually get are: -Shrimp Fried Rice -Broccoli Beef -Orange Chicken (Can never go wrong with Orange Chicky, lol) But whatever you decide to get from Cafe Wang, you won't be disappointed. Spicy, Sweet, Savory, they have it all! The food is always fresh, consistent and on point! The price range is between $10 - $25, depending on what you're ordering. If your ever in Old Town La Verne, Cafe Wang is a place to try for sure.

Their all you can eat for 24 bucks combo is what I got with the homie and all I can say is that it was elite eats servings were small but for all you can eat the quality was on point for Chinese food. Their server was really attentive to our needs and literally we were the only ones feasting on a Saturday afternoon despite how big their dining venue is. I would definitely come back if I lived near la verne a gem in that city for real. read more

Recently visited this restaurant and let me tell you it was not good at all. We ordered different plates to taste some of the variety they offer. Food was not good, flavorless, just not worth the almost $90 we spent that day. You guys are better off going to panda express and that is saying a lot. Overpriced, bland, tasteless food is what you will get here. We had high hopes for this establishment, unfortunately it was not a good experience at all. read more

Cafe Wang. You will forever be my spot and you will continue to earn my business. But serious attention needs to be addressed to your staff, especially when you're short handed on a given day. Today, I wanted to place a phone order to-go but unfortunately the phones were out of order. I thought maybe because today was a holiday and that the restaurant was closed, which is understandable. So I drove by to confirm and sure enough, lights were on and place was open for business. Felt this was odd but I still had a craving so I went inside to place an order to-go. I order 2 items at the counter and before I get the total, I ask "Just wondering, are your phones out of order today?" The guy at the counter: "Idk I just got here" Me: "Oh okay, because I wanted to place a phone order and it kept sending me to voic...." Guy: "IS IT JUST THESE 2 ITEMS??" Me: "....yes" Dude completely cuts me off mid-sentence which is extremely rude, but fine, no small talk, my bad. Just lemme pay and get my food. Card goes through and homeboy doesn't say thank you, doesn't confirm payment went through nor does he tell me how long it will be. *I* had to ask: "sooo whats the eta?" "About 12-15 minutes" Okay, fine. Well 20-25 minutes goes by, and homie doesn't provide ANY updates or a new ETA as I'm sitting down at a table patiently waiting. I seriously don't even know how many times he walked past me without acknowledging my presence. Finally I had to flag him down and ask whats the latest. Just says: "I'm waiting on the chow mein". My guy, am I bothering you? Is this an inconvenience being here? Then FINALLY when my food was ready, he throws the food on the table I was sitting at, doesn't make eye contact, doesn't say a word. I was a little taken back but still said "...thank you!" Any guesses if he said "You're welcome"? or "Come back again?" Nope. nothing. Cool man, just remember everyone's dinner tab pays your hourly rate. It costs you ZERO dollars to be respectful to paying customers. I expect quality service from your staff, Cafe Wang. I am generally not one to write reviews but the service and food I had at Cafe Wang was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. I originally went in for a pitcher because they are by far the cheapest in la Verne but I ended up going for the BBQ Pork Bun and it was so good I wanted to share. I honestly think if I was stranded on a desert island and I could only bring one food item it would be the Cafe Wang BBQ Pork Bun!!!!! 11/10 check this place out if your in the downtown la verne area. read more

My buddy and I stopped by yesterday just because they have the best pitcher deals in town. However, we ordered food and were blown away! The sauteed green beans were amazing and a perfect plate to share with the table. They were seasoned perfectly and probably my favorite. The steamed xiao long bao with its dipping sauce were also amazing. The flavor of the broth inside beats any restaurant I have had before. The dipping sauce brought so much flavor to it as well. Lastly, the steamed BBQ Pork Bun was a perfect bang for buck option that will fill you up, and has all the flavor inside. Overall 10/10 rating. Our food and drinks came out super quick with amazing service. This is a must stop if you are ever in La Verne and want an awesome atmosphere! read more

My family loves going to Cafe Wang. Portions are very generous, and service is fast and friendly. We are always seated immediately. My favorite dish is walnut shrimp, but their menu is varied and eclectic, and everything that I've ever tried has been delicious. It's a great place for small or large parties, as the restaurant is roomy and spacious, and it has fun, relaxed vibes. Ok, I'm all for trying new establishments and supporting local businesses. Picking up the food was awkward. Hostess would not give eye contact nor answer questions. Got home, we re missing steamed bbq pork buns! Orange chicken was just gross, fried rice was not friend rice.. period! We celebrated my boyfriend's brother birthday here for a party of 20. We had the big party room reserved (it has a huge TV with karaoke machine inside). Everything was absolutely a joy! We ordered so many dishes, maybe almost everything on the menu, and everyone finished everything, I don't even think we had left overs! Their food is so good, and they even provided complimentary egg rolls and something else for our party! I think my favorite was the sweet and sour chicken, eggplants, beef broccoli, the chow Mei, the honey walnut shrimps, and sautéed green beens. They also have a great variety of drinks to choose from and, surprisingly, their Moscow mule and old fashion were pretty good also! I've never expected any good cocktails from a Chinese restaurant, so it was a pleasant surprise! Onto the karaoke machine, it was based in Chinese! They had English songs in there and I think you can guess around how to get to the English section but it was pretty hard to navigate, unless someone in your party is Chinese and can read and write! lol. However, overall everyone had a great time and our bellies were full and happy! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the area to check them out! We recently tried this place again after about a year and noticed they have some happy hour dishes that are a great deal: fried rice, broccoli beef, orange chicken. Food is consistently flavorful and consistent with Chinese cuisines. In the past I was concerned about portions... for example the Mongolian beef had a lot of veggies with little actual beef. This last visit was more balanced and generous. I think their eggplant dish is probably my favorite around town. Adding this to our regular rotation of local place. read more

At first I was like "why did you take me to a fusion restaurant -__-" but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered Dan Dan noodles, veggie fried rice, cucumber salad, and dumplings. The noodles were surprisingly good and the sauce fused well. I love the cucumber salad!!1! It's so simple but so good. The fried rice was solid, nothing new but a great safety. The food Is always delicious here!! I absolutely love every dish we have tried! Our favorites are the crispy slightly spicy orange chicken, the Mongolian beef is also spicy and delicious and we love the Kung pao chicken. The veggies are perfectly cooked and yummy. The service is usually wonderful they always try their best and are quick! The ambiance is casual and fresh, it's definitely one of our favorite Chinese places. Food is good and consistent. The issue with this location is that I've come here multiple times and the older female waitress needs intense training. For example: - She missed an item we ordered and seemed surprised when we reminded her. - There was one other group of 3 people in the restaurant and she didn't come around to offer any refills or even make eye contact to see if we needed anything. -my group asked for the check and she never brought it (we had to ask three times). - after we paid cash she came up to a member of my group and asked them, "do you want to pay the tip now?" This is one of our favorite spots in La Verne. Basil is absolutely amazing! I don't know who the chef is tonight, but they didn't get our order right. Food tasted old. We ordered so many food and we were so hungry. In the end, we couldn't eat it because it was terrible! The only thing they got right was the steamed rice and Thai iced tea. Food that we ordered: Fried tofu (that did not look fried at all. Although the pictures from yelp shows FRIED. Clearly, this had sauce with some onions with vegetables. Again, NOT FRIED. Shrimp with walnuts (shrimp tasted old, we actually spit it out!) Shu mei - gave us the wrong order ‍ instead, they swapped it with 2 dumpling with beef in it. Tasted like crap too. Crystal shrimp - did not even receive this! We got some crystal shrimp from Temu or something because they swapped it with another dumpling with meat in it! Fried rice - 4/10 Steamed rice - smelled old Thai iced tea with no boba: 8/10 Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant if you're craving Chinese food. Went yesterday for first time. Wow!! What delicious food. I had the sweet and sour pork. Very tasty. Sauce was fabulous. My sister had orange chicken. Best I ever tasted. For lunch special, economically priced at $15 ($2 extra for fried rice), you get entree, egg roll (seriously best ever), rice, and a beverage. Great deal. A lot of food. The server was attentive but not annoying. It was a little chilly inside but it's a brick building with a concrete floor. Bring a sweater. Food is definitely worth it. read more

Upon first entering the Cafe Wang in La Vergne, one would get a feel for a very upbeat sushi bar that begs local fare and a conversation over lunch about the latest happenings in the area... but my time there was special... an invitation for a private event... and true to the nature of my visit, Cafe Wang opened its depths to an intimate underbelly that would treat me like a king. Jackie, the owner, spared nothing to accommodate our group. His girlfriend waited to celebrate her birthday with him as he decided to create, host, entertain and prepare our experience. To say he prepared our meal would be a gross understatement as he privately instructed cooks and servers to be ready to prepare items not even on the menu... From the exquisite Coconut and candied walnut shrimp to the stir-fried eggplant he presented to our vegetarian and vegan members to the pork dumplings with reduced black vinegar sauce he danced in step with the music playing in the background, adding food and replacing beverages while joining the conversation and delicately peppering the story of how he met our event coordinator with such presence that we couldn't tell he wasn't part of our group... in fact... I'm sure by the end we had adopted him, even hugging him and seeing him off to treat his girlfriend to a well deserved birthday celebration. When the cat was away... the mice did not play. After leaving, cook and serving staff were attentive to our needs without disrupting our conversation. I arrived at this location 10 minutes before happy hour and no one was there to greet me... I picked up the happy hour menu and waited about five minutes until somebody came from the back... Once the lady came from the back, I told her I was interested in ordering off of the happy hour menu, which was from 3 to 6 PM. She flipped my menu around and told me that the happy hour menu was not available yet. I told her I would wait for 10 minutes if I needed to and I wanted to order off the happy hour menu and her reply was oh no, you'll have to wait at least a half an hour so you need to order off of the main menu. This is false advertisement as it is advertised all over the storefront And definitely not accommodating. I'm a local customer who would have been a frequent customer, but her shortsighted and bate and switch tactic with not allow allowing me to order off of the happy hour menu within the given time that was advertise was very offputting. Been here a few times. This place makes great Chinese food. This visit, we ordered the beef fried rice, orange chicken, kung pao tofu, and the cheese wontons. Usually, if you want authentic Chinese food, you have to drive out to Monterey Park to get it. Been to several places in and around La Verne, and this is one of the better Chinese food establishments in the area in regards to taste of food. I had the pleasure of trying the Asian fusion cuisine at this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. I opted for the fried rice and orange chicken, and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and well-prepared they were. Highly recommend this Chinese restaurant especially in the soup dumplings! They are thin and chewy skin, bursting with hot flavor soups and tender meat filling. I personally like to add extra vinegar and ginger to increase the flavor. The Bao, on the other hand, have very soft and fluffy texture.
