Had a nice late dinner with the Mrs. on a Saturday night before a concert at Cargo. We had some apps and draft beers because we didn't want a big meal. The bartender was quick to serve us and the overall experience was great. The dining area is nice, it wasn't very crowded. The bar seating area was nice and comfy. I'm looking forward to coming back soon for a nice meal again when we have more time, the menu looks like it has a lot of good options to try.

Had the pleasure of sampling the new spring menu at Cafe Whitney recently and I will say the chefs and staff brought their A game! The restaurant is beautifully and located in the heart of downtown located right next to the renowned Reno sign. I tried their strawberry margarita, jambalaya, vaquero fries, and more. The sample menu was so delicious that my fiance and I had to try their ramen and salmon from their main menu, and they were also superb. I highly recommend Cafe Whitney if you are in town and would be interested to hear what you think about their dishes.

We walked here for breakfast into a beautiful restaurant. The decor and natural lighting was beautiful. The service was good as we walked in right at the end of breakfast and they still let us order breakfast items. The food was just okay nothing amazing but they did have good portions.

We loved it! It was walkable from Caesars Row. We were quickly seated and split the turkey club. The chef was thoughtful enough to split it for us and it came with shoestring fries. It was very tasty and perfectly put together. Definitely worth a visit.

Food was just so-so. Ask for "real eggs" if you want scrambled eggs. Not horrible but nothing to write home about either. The fellow that sat us was exceptional and got us our drinks. We saw our waitress one time to order and she never came back. Someone else from the kitchen delivered our food. Not bad but wouldn't return

Great food and service! Love the look of the restaurant that feels Classy, fancy, but not "hoity-toity". Didn't need reservations and was sat right away. Has large tables, so great for larger parties. Great spot to eat or drink before a show at Cargo and has a locals discount. Fair prices and the food met my expectations. Open slightly later than other restaurants downtown. Highly recommend and I will be back.

Yummy food, big portions so the price was reasonable. Attentive servers and an elevated dining atmosphere.

Good food and friendly service. The ambiance was comfortable and relaxed. Food was delicious. My picky eater son didn't really feel the pancakes but that's kind of on him as he is kind of spoiled to home made food by mom. Great vibes and California dreaming. 4.2 stars rounded up because it's spring break! Let's goo!!

First time dining here for brunch. They had some good options on the menu and I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. This was definitely on the larger side and barely finished it. They do offer bottomless mimosas as well, so that's a plus! I would come back again for brunch. I'm a big fan of their happy hour as well. Several cocktails and appetizers are half off!

Been awhile since I last reviewed Cafe Whitney. An update is in order. We have been back a number of times since it is a block from home and is a good spot to go when we don't feel like cooking. We came recently to get a bite before going to a show knowing that they are usually very quick in getting orders out. I had the pasta with sausage and a good not too sweet mocktail. My husband had the roasted half chicken. Both meals were good and portions were generous. The service was good, orders taken and food brought out in a timely manner. They were not very busy and most patrons were at the bar. It is a good neighborhood spot for a nice meal.

Scored a last minute Thanksgiving reservation here last night. The place was delightful, staff friendly and overly accommodating. Our server crafted a special mocktail for me since I am sober. Valet service was a pleasant surprise as well. I chose the Thanksgiving meal with pork and the gingerbread cookie. The food was delicious, I was not surprised. The restaurant is delicately decorated, and gives off an upscale vibe in a quiet way. The staff were extremely attentive checking in with us more than necessary, making sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately I forgot to take too many photos, so I'll attach the few I have. Thank you Cafe Whitney and staff!

We went for breakfast on Saturday and were able to get in quickly. Staff were efficient and friendly serving us right away. Breakfast menu isn't big but should have enough options for everyone. The portions were decent size and none of us were disappointed. Recommend the Bloody Mary which usually comes with a slice of bacon, so let them know if you don't want it.

It was such a beautiful day.... where can we eat outside?…read more I found "The Spot", its in the old Smee's location on the river. When we showed up, we asked if we could sit at a table outside, the guy was a little overwhelmed, he said "I can sit you in 10 mins". I said "can we have this table". OK, but....just know I'll be with you as soon as I get caught up, I'm totally fine with that I said. . He bought us a couple menus to look over. Then a table on the railing with shade opened up, I didn't care about the table was dirty with dishes, so we decided to move. I love to look at the river and watch the people go by. The server said, I'll be over soon! He was never so happy when Sierra showed up to help him out. He came over to our table I said "I hope you don't mind, I moved to be in the shade, I know I'm one of those pain in the ass customers". Then he started joking with me and it was the perfect ice breaker. My server and part owner's name is Casey! He is an awesome guy and such a hard worker to ensure his customers are taken care of. I love that. We had a couple beers, he has quite the selection of beers on tap, he supports the community breweries such as Lead Dog and Revisions. My husband had the breakfast burrito $13, it was huge with homemade tortilla chips with salad and guacamole. I had the fish and chips. You get three large pieces of fish, fries and yummy coleslaw. I love how they put the tater sauce and ketchups in personal cups for you that shows class. My fish was absolutely delicious better than the old Smees and especially the new location. You get a nice meal for $20. They have indoor, outdoor, bar seating. They have a little merch area and a gaming bar if you feel lucky. I know the Open Championship Bowlers are in town, if you're looking for nice comfort food "tavern style" location this is the place for you on the Reno Riverwalk 50 N Sierra. It upstairs.

We wanted to give this place another chance after a disappointing visit a few months ago where the…read moreservice was painfully slow (25-40 minutes between drinks, ordering, and food). Unfortunately, this second experience was even worse. We visited as a group of four during the Reno Wine Walk. One person in our group does not drink alcohol, and we were explicitly assured by the Home Means Nevada company at the starting location that every participating bar would have non-alcoholic options available. When we asked, the front desk guy grabbed the manager and he informed us we'd have to pay full price for a non alcoholic beer. He then went on an entirely unnecessary monologue about how the business makes "no money" from the wine walk and claims they do it out of the "kindness of their hearts." We completely understand the economics of a wine walk, which is exactly why we checked beforehand to ensure our non-drinking friend would be accommodated. No other bar on the walk had an issue with this. Hoping to salvage the afternoon, we asked if we could sit down for food (since the restaurant was slow). The front desk guy gestured to the menus and said "I mean sure" and told us to grab menus and seat ourselves. The menu stack happened to be under a host's phone and keys. While holding our items and wine glasses we tried to pull out menus, as he watched us struggling to grab them as our hands were full and a hosts personal items were on top of the stack, we knocked over a glass. As we scrambled to help clean up and keep the host's items from getting wet from the spill, the front desk guy sarcastically snapped, "Uh, can I get those back?" as if we were trying to steal the employee's personal belongings. As working professionals in the local community, we were highly offended by how we were treated. There is a severe lack of basic hospitality, kindness, and respect here. We will absolutely not be returning.

When we walked in, we were the only customers which was at first worrisome. Colby who we later learned was the owner greeted us with great enthusiasm and was extremely personable and had great suggestions. He placed our mind at ease. We talked a bit about cocktails as I am a Mezcal drinker, but he didn't quite have the ingredients to craft a drink to my liking. I ordered an old-fashioned, which is my go to standby. While I was enjoying the old-fashioned with the appetizers that we ordered, Colby came up to the table and said he had made a Mezcal drink for me. It was amazing. He listened to my likes and dislikes and crafted a unique blend of Mezcal and secret ingredients that I will not reveal. The drink was amazing. He shared his creation with me so I could recreate at home. Appetizers were good so we stayed for dinner. There was a little bit of confusion about the dinner order and two dishes came out too salty for our liking. Mishaps happen all the time but it's how an establishment deals with it that matters. Colby made sure we were happy with our meals and all was good. Colby is quite the wine connoisseur and we had excellent conversation about old word and new world wines. The eating area is very spacious and commodious. Though this place has a casual vibe, the presentation of the food is totally fine-dining material. Each dish, especially the Citrus glazed salmon, is served as a piece of art. I've been here around three times before I installed yelp, and am excited to finally leave a review. The short rib, was absolutely amazing. The short rib was so tender, and each brussels sprout was a literal flavor bomb. The brussels sprouts I've had at other places have flavor only on the exterior, whereas the brussels sprouts here play a different game. The short rib is served in a really big portion. Though it may look dark from the photos, there are actually three big pieces. I loved loved loved the sauce; there's a sweet tangy taste to it, though it reminded me a lot of BBQ sauce. This short rib was a win. Chefs kiss. The truffle lasagna was terrific; so much sauce in between the lasagna layers. I could absolutely make out the truffle flavor in this dish. However, I recommend eating this dish quickly, as the lasagna stiffens really quickly. Thirty minutes after it was served, I went it to take another bite, and it wasn't as good anymore. The ceasar salad +beef is a great choice for a light but filling meal when you're currently on a healthy diet. Each dish here comes in giant portions, but even after you finish this salad, it won't feel too heavy on your body. I think it's because Washoe is really light on the dressing levels; perfecting the amount so it doesn't overtake the fresh flavor of the greens or leave the salad bland and insipid. However, the beef was a bit too well done and on the firmer side. The first time coming here, I was totally shocked to find out that the food they served did not match the relaxed and informal vibe the setting sets up. Not a bad thing at all. Creates a laid-back vibe while still getting high quality food.

Our most recent visit was dinner to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. It still maintains it's casual atmosphere. The entrance has shifted to the Ridge Street side of the building. A good decision. It always felt a bit cramped to check in in the bar area especially when they are busy. Dining area is now mostly in the back room. While the setting is casual, the food is upscale - including the burgers. They offer game meats, elk, kangaroo, venison, and wild boar, in addition to high end beef and a small selection of seafood. They also have a few vegetarian/vegan options. I had the Citrus Glazed Salmon with root vegetables and squash. It was very good. The salmon was fresh and and flaky and perfectly cooked. My husband had the Rock Candy Short Rib. He deemed it "acceptable" Mine was paired with a light dry Savengon Blanc. Service was good and our satisfaction was checked. I debated between a 4 or 5 star experience - I decided on 5 mostly due to the quality of the meal. Return visit? Yes.
