We decided to come to Cafe Whitney for New Year's Eve! We've been here a few times before and loves the burger and brunch offerings, it's been a while since we've been here for dinner so we were excited to check out the butter poached lobster special we had seen on Instagram. My partner and I started by ordering drinks, I ordered the mountain mule which sounded delicious, a pre batched cocktail infused with cranberry in the mule and local Tahoe blue vodka. love that. my partner ordered the pessimist wine which was $12 a glass and loved that as well. I decided to order the Caesar salad and the butternut squash soup in the larger size as my meal, and he ordered the fillet, wrapped in bacon, and added on the butter poached lobster which were both the New Year's Eve specials. I'm pretty sure our server's name was Derek, and he was very kind and warm with us, he had no trouble explaining the specials and was very sweet and knowledgeable. The soup was our favorite, by a lot. We absolutely loved the red curry and sriracha flavors woven into this delicious soup and I would order it again and again and again. The Caesar salad was not my favorite. It had an overwhelming anchovy taste and whole anchovies included in the salad, the next most prominent taste was lemon and included thinly sliced lemons in the salad as well. there were maybe 1 or 2 croutons and one crisp of parmesan on the top. I would have preferred a Caesar with a creamier dressing and grated parmesan, but that's just me. Beware if you don't like anchovy, do not order this salad. My partner liked his entree, the lobster was his favorite. He commented that the potatoes could have had better seasoning, maybe more salt, and said that the flavor was good but the bacon didn't add anything. We really loved the lobster though! We decided to skip dessert as its New Year's Eve and we planned to go out to a few more bars afterwards. We always love the atmosphere at Whitney Peak! It was so nice that we were seated right away and the service was excellent. My only comment that's constructive about the atmosphere of the restaurant is that it was very cold inside and I draped a jacket over my legs just to keep my legs warm while I was wearing a dress. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we do plan to come back very soon for happy hour!! Lots of things on the menu we want to try, like the butternut squash parpadalle, the ramen, and the Korean fried chicken. read more

Went Sunday with a reservation and it wasn't very busy. It took 25 mins to even be greeted by a server and 45 mins before we got our drinks. We weren't able to order our food until the 50 minute mark. Server was also making the drinks and it took her 3 trips to bring the entire round. Food arrived quickly thankfully and was okay, nothing spectacular. Dishes sat in front of us for another 30-40 minutes. When it came time to pay the bill they took the credit card for 15 minutes. Another waitress came back and asked if the card was ours? We said yes and it still hadn't been tendered. 20 minutes to get a credit card ran. We left at 1:40 for an 11 o clock reservation. No, we weren't in any hurry but the length of service and complete disconnect in staff certainly won't have us coming back. read more

Thanksgiving most places were closed so we ended up getting a meal here from our hotel. I got the vegan pasta and it was delicious! It also came with two pieces of charred bread. The SO got the duck flat bread, soup of the day was albóndigas and the cubano sandwich that came with a salad. Everything was well liked and ready in 20 minutes. The person who took my order answered all my questions and our meal came with utensils, plates and napkins. Definitely a plus when we come back and stay at the hotel. Everything was around 75.00. Walked in Memorial Day morning, place was 1/2 empty. Host asked us to give them 5 minutes. We waited to the side for five minutes. Saw two parties walk up to the host desk and get seated right away. Complained to the host, she blamed the computer being down, but then showed us to a table. Several tables looked not bussed. After sitting at our table for five more minutes with no service whatsoever (15-20 min total, 1/2 empty restaurant), left and walked over to the Cal Neva Top Deck and was served right away. read more

Visited on New Year's Eve for brunch and ordered the chicken alfredo. The noodles were fine, but the chicken was dry and borderline burnt. The restaurant itself looks nice, clean, modern, and well‑presented, but don't be fooled by the appearance or the photos they advertise. The food took forever to come out, and the service wasn't much better. We waited so long for our bill that I eventually had to flag down the service manager just to get it handled. Overall, a disappointing visit and not a place I'd recommend. read more

Sunday breakfast for a large group was easily accommodated after our weekend stay. The breakfast portions are huge! I opted for the Granola and Berry Hotcakes and even the short stack was almost too much food! The granola was soft and flavorful, hot cakes thick and tasty. From the other orders, it looks like all of the egg dishes were just as good. Coffee was great. Service was excellent considering the size of our table. Highly recommend whether staying at the hotel or elsewhere. read more

The service we received from Cristina was the best part of our dinner. She was friendly and helpful and offered recommendations for everything from wine to dessert. My husband loved his salmon and we enjoyed sharing the apple pie bread pudding with gelato. My only criticism would be that for the menu and the price, I would expect a bit more upscale atmosphere.
