Juan is the worst. I had one bad experience with him about a month ago, just really unpleasant and rude enough that I had decided not to go back to this location. Today it was on my way to work & I thought I would give it another try, everyone has bad days. Apparently Juan has them often. He was there again and super rude, enough so that I feel compelled to write this review. Basic customer service means a simple hello & thank you are expected, and even if you are having a bad day, if you do these two things, your customers generally won't complain. Juan does not appear to understand this. I would not want him representing my business or interacting with customers- ever. He's just a jerk. Rude, and unapologetically so. It's too bad because everyone else at this location is super nice & pleasant, maybe Juan just needs a refresher from his co-workers on how to work with the public. read more

I heard great things and was majorly disappointed. The "yum" sauce tasted sour and nasty. The fried tofu was so over cooked it was like jerky, you couldn't finish and was probably in the oven heating up for hours.. 1st time and the last time. I have to say first off how can they list them selves in the Vegan category if they serve chicken/turkey/eggs/salmon! Food was very disappointing. I had the Secrete Asian Man it came with a half small container of salad dressing not enough to cover 1/8th of the plate of food. the tofu was over done and chewy. My daughter had the grill panini turkey sandwich and Costco has the same sandwich for less and tastes better. Wife had the chicken yumm bento. no value for the money.. none at all it was very small more like a $5 bento not 7.95. Water- they have a serve yourself water but no ice Over all there was no value for the money! Really the only good thing about this place was the door leaving it. read more

I have decided to revise my review solely on the fact that the management was very understanding and contacted me to try and rectify the poor food and lack of training one (or maybe all, I'm not sure) employee had about reimbursing or compensating customers when they are not happy with their food. My original rating was a 1/5 and the extra three stars are ONLY for the fact that the management was so helpful. After reading great reviews, the hubby and I stopped by for some dinner. He had the Jazzy bowl and I had the Grilled Salmon Sandwich. While my husband was impressed with how tasty his Jazzy bowl was, I was disappointed with how uninspired the salmon sandwich was - whole wheat bun, salmon patty, lettuce, tomato, onion. Plain and simple, but like I said - uninspired. After the fact, I checked out Cafe Yumm's nutritional information and found that my husband's tasty Jazzy bowl (size large) contained 71.3 grams of fat. Yikes! 42 grams are the Yumm sauce. Healthy? I think not. Will we return? I think not. read more

The tempeh Reuben is a sandwich I could eat daily and never tire of. I don't even know how to categorize this place other than the name is no lie. It is yummy. Between my husband and kids we've tried the bowls, the wraps, the tofu and tempeh skewers, and the aforementioned sandwich...Downtown Portland should be jealous we lowly 'burbs have this rad place out here. The staff was super helpful upon learning we were a vegan family on our first visit. Audrey (I think that was her name but not totally sure) pointed out all the vegan items and easily veganizable items. In the bowls, for example, she offered avocado in place of cheese. I was like, "seriously? no extra charge?" Sure, I could probably replicate some of the dishes at home easily for less cost...but I cook non-stop. It's nice to have vegan fast-food (especially if you call ahead) available. I think I may splurge and get a jug of Yumm sauce next time. read more

I never leave reviews, but after my experience I couldn't help but leave my feedback. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I've heard good things, so decided to give them a try. Got the chicken skewers, what I thought would be a safe bet. 1st the meat was so tough I had a difficult time getting it off the skewer. After all that work, the first bite tasted like the chicken was rotten, had a rotten fish taste to it, like it had been sitting out all day long (feeling sick just thinking about it.) I was hoping I could get rid of the taste from the skewer by taking a bite of the Original bowl I bought to accompany the chicken. It tasted slightly better than the chicken, but not much. It too had a rotten taste and made me feel like I was eating out of a composite heap. Maybe I hit them on a really bad day, but will never go back. I Fing love yumm sauce! I buy the big bottle and smother it on veggies, meat, and even in my bloody marys! Their food is great as well. I usually like cafe yumm and I had thought it was pretty tasty in the past. But last night I bought my husband and I original yumm bowl with southwestern chicken. Took them home and It looked soupy and looked like brown liquid in it like the beans came straight from a can without rinsing them first. It was the worst quality of food I had there and I had also mentioned when I ordered jokingly "don't skimp on the sauce " which I didn't see any sauce other than that brown liquid . The guy at the counter said to me that he told them to put extra sauce on for me when he gave me my food. Which now I am questioning what did they put in my food or what did they do to my food . I dont understand the rave reviews for this place. My niece and I tried this place for lunch and spent $20 for a little jazzy bowl, a bowl of soup and a 1/2 sandwich. Soup as well as the olives taste like they came from a can, the jazzy bowl was boring and the vegis on my 1/2 veg sandwhich were dried out. What a waste! Don't believe the hype! read more

Is it just me or are they slowly starting to skimp on their bowls? I have gone here twice and all the bowls were filled more than an inch below the line. Whole bowl in Portland fills em up above and beyond for 5.50, and I feel like I got jipped for 6.95. I want a bowl filled all the way! I've came here many times and I always get the same thing, the Original Yum bowl. Lately I've noticed they are giving me less and less toppings and more rice. So very disappointing. The amount of avocado I got on this last one, was less than a tablespoon. I wish I had taken a pic. What a rip off. Never going here again. read more

I love everything about this place! The staff is super nice, food is heavenly and location is just around the corner from my work. I go there for the original yumm bowl and my personal favorite variation of this bowl is to reduce the yumm sauce by half, replace the red salsa with jalapeno sesame salsa and top the bowl with southwest tofu. Never fails to fulfill me, lift my spirit and deliver that feeling of 'now I can take on rest of the day' :) read more

Could have been awesome. I have been on the road for two weeks. Was excited for some clean organic food I could feel good about eating. It could have been awesome except for the sauce they doused my food with. It tasted horrible and completely overpowered all the other flavors. Also my daughter ordered no toppings, but she got them all. So if you eat here, ask for no sauce, and check for accurate toppings. I bet it would be delish if they get your order right. read more

If Cafe Yumm were closer to my home I would probably eat here at least once a week. I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but whenever I'm feeling like a fatty I treat myself to an edamame bowl. I say treat because it's delicious! I love the seaweed, fresh ingredients, brown rice, and the Yumm sauce is so good. It's such a perfect mix of flavors that I don't miss the meat one bit. The space is bright, always clean, and casual. Efficiency seating. The menu is varied, with lots of room to customize. The bowls combine individually boring but nutritious ingredients, top with special sauces, and are magically delicious. Employees are great about substitutions (brown rice for white, etc) and you can pick proteins to add. Stick within the yumm bowl family and they will be yummy. Maybe don't come here for the salmon, have heard less raving reviews on that. But really? Who orders the salmon at a bowl restaurant? Chicken skewers, however, are tasty. This was our first visit to Cafe Yumms, and my husband and I found the food (Yumm Bowl - Original and the Ginger-Garlic Veggie Burger) to be excellent. The service was outstanding and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. I really liked that the dining area is filled with natural light and the decor is bright. I have seriously had it with this place. The food is actually good and pretty healthy and there isn't anything else close that is healthy so thats the big reason that we keep going but the people that work there (though very nice) literally get our order wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME. We have made it a joke in our family and have a running bet about how many times we state that we want our order to go, whomever is working (which is every single person working there) will ask us if this is for here or to go? I have stated the TO GO parted at least twice at this point. Are they HIGH? Because I don't think the job is so stressful that right out of the gate, the employee is just not listening to what the customer is saying within the first 5 seconds. Then after we repeatedly and very slowly give our order, the person ( and its EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE) says the order back and gets it right but some F#*&ing way, the order is screwed up once its in the bag!
