I don't know why it took me this long to write a review because my partner and I have been here before, but after last night, it feels right. We stopped by after our Valentine's dinner because we wanted to find a cozy place for dessert and coffee to end the night. Café Greco just felt like the perfect choice -- somewhere warm, simple, and comfortable. I had a cappuccino, and we shared cheesecake and tiramisu. The cappuccino was smooth and warm -- the kind that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. The cheesecake was creamy without being too sweet, and the tiramisu had that soft espresso flavor that melts perfectly into every bite. Simple, classic, and consistently good. What we really love is the atmosphere. It's cozy, relaxed, and feels very neighborhood -- no rush, no pressure, just a place to sit and talk. It's become part of our little traditions. Also, just a heads up -- it's cash only, so make sure to come prepared. And honestly, that old-school charm is part of why we appreciate it. It's always great to support a local spot that's been part of the community for years. We'll definitely keep coming back -- especially for nights like this.
Almost a decade after my first review, Caffè Greco is still one of my go-to spots in North Beach. It is a place where I can sit, enjoy a good cup of coffee, and relax without feeling rushed. I'm a local, and after trying just about every café in the neighborhood over the years, Greco continues to hold its place near the top of my list. What keeps me coming back is how consistently comfortable it is. It's a no-frills café with plenty of seating, enough room to spread out, and a steady neighborhood vibe that makes it easy to settle in for an hour or two. The coffee is solid, the service is friendly, and it works just as well for a quick espresso stop as it does for a longer reading session. It's also a good people-watching spot without feeling loud or chaotic. One small detail that still makes me smile is the contrast between the café's name and its North Beach setting, but labels aside, what matters is that it works. Years later, it remains a reliable neighborhood café, and that's exactly why I keep coming back.
Best tiramisu omg, not the best I ever had but pretty close second! It's moist and light , not too sweet and its a somewhat healthy portion. Pricey but worth every bite! I will keep coming back over and over. Some of the other sweets are good too if they are out of the tiramisu. Ambiance is cute & romantic cafe with seats at the window, cafe from french or Italian movie kinda feel... its big with 2 sides for seating. The service is fast & the guys are friendly, it cash only!
We stopped by Cafe Grecco in search of some dessert after dinner in Little Italy and popped in here. Please note: CASH ONLY!!! That took me be by surprise but its worth it!! We got 2 pieces of dessert - a tiramisu and another chocoalte liquor cake. We also got hot chocolate which just had to be one of the richest most flavorful hot chocolates I have ever had! The dessert was delicious and I thought everything was great. Docking a star because the cash only thing wasn't the best and I thought it was a little expensive.
CASH ONLY! This place is an iconic North Beach cafe. Everyone that works here is so friendly and very kind to their regulars. I got the prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted pepper panini which was listed as the customer favorite on the menu. It was a good panini, however, nothing special. My friend got the breakfast panini and liked it but again nothing special, and he preferred the prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted pepper panini instead. The place has great espresso and beautiful looking pastries. I will be coming back for a giant cookie someday soon. The food didn't blow me away, but I love the ambiance of this place and will take anyone that is visiting here. Just a ish it wasn't cash only, but I get it.
The atmosphere here is what draws you in as well as the assortment of sweet treats. Being here on a Saturday reminds me of the old days when the City was vibrant so it was great to experience this again. Hubby is on the hunt for an authentic cannoli so we came here based on you yelper. The filling is pretty good and smooth with mini chocolate chips. The shell was okay and not crispy since the cannoli is prefilled. Eating this back at the hotel and I really needed a nice cappuccino. Ugh! We also picked up a tiramisu which was okay. It was quite wet and lacking in coffee flavor and I'm not sure if the cream is heavy cream versus mascapone. It was very light and not overly sweet at all. Next time I want to try more housemade treats and a cappuccino! Please support this local business.
Best tiramisu I've had in North Beach (even though it's not pictured). Not too sweet, and a perfect balance of all the flavors tiramisu has to offer. Cannoli and cappuccino (pictured) were good, but nothing special quite like the tiramisu. Kind staff and usually plenty of seating as well. Cash only
After having a delicious meal at the Stinking Rose across the street on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in San Francisco. We decided to stop for a beautiful coffee at my favorite Café spot. I've been coming here for years, and you come here because the coffee is on point! On this day, I had affogato, which means coffee with ice cream. It was the perfect way to end a beautiful lunch. The service is always fast because they're always busy, and they know how to get you going. Most people take it to go. I always stay and enjoy sitting in a coffee shop that makes beautiful coffee and delicious pastries. That's all I need to know. Maybe I'll see you there. Cheers, my friends. This has always been our go to Tiramisu spot! When it's coming out a Pyrex pan you know it's going to be really good. The staff is super friendly and they are really fast turning around your order. It felt like a Tardis entering the cafe. At first it was deceivingly small but when you turn to the left there was a lot of more seating. They also have seating on the outside too which is really nice. Protip: Don't forget to bring Cash!!!! This is a cash only establishment.
Cafe Greco was a stop with me and my friends in the 90's early 2000s, before Yelp was thought of. This is a simple cafe, but something about just sitting down with an actual cup of coffee in a real cup and watching the world go by. I just ordered a simple cafe later and a mozzarella and tomato crossiant. It tasted so refreshing with fresh mozzarella and in season tomato.THIS IS CASH ONLY PLACE.
Such a cute cafe located in Little Italy! After seeing the sundae prices at Ghirardelli Square, I was a little bummed but still wanted a sweet treat so I stopped by Cafe Greco for some gelato, and I'm glad I did! The ambience inside is super cozy with lots of seating and the outdoor patio was so cute! The service was also great, the workers serving our gelato were funny and friendly. The gelato flavor selection was on the smaller side, but was delicious and definitely hit the spot. They are cash only. Will come back next time I'm back in SF!

Very disappointed. I ordered a "caprese" salad, and was presented thin, flavorless tomatoes swimming in overly acidic ( similarly flavorless ) balsamic vinegar, cheap (flavorless ) olive oil, pickled red peppers, thin + oddly chopped fresh mozzarella. Most offensively, they had put capers all over it...... instead of fresh basil. where is the fresh basil?!??? This is not Caprese salad . Caprese salad is supposed to be fresh ! My madre taught me better than this , but the owners' did not apparently. I finished the "salad" out of respect, but wouldn't order it again . The panini was alright, but tomatoes also lacked flavor. The salad that came with the panini was also disappointing....... just wet leaves, no cucumbers, carrots..... nothing else. At least the dressing was good. I made the mistake of ordering the sacrapantina as well........ the chocolate icing was too thick , cake was way too sweet. Also did not have much flavor, again. It was moist, though. The ambience inside is wonderful . Reminds me of places in NB during the 60's, and in NYC. Absolutely wonderful interior. The only reason I'm rating it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I like that it's open late that's important, and the ambiance is good . Hope it returns to the Greco I used to know. Stefano read more

CASH ONLY. Open late (until 11pm-12am) for any of your late night coffee or Italian dessert cravings! PLEASE order the pistachio ricotta cheesecake. It is absolutely delicious. This does not taste like an American cheesecake so it does not have a cream cheese flavor if that's what you're looking for. It's essentially pistachio cream layered with another plain cream, almost whipped cream. It's so delicious, not too rich, and the pistachio flavor is pronounced and is balanced perfectly with the fluffy plain cream texture. SO GOOD. We also ordered the tiramisu, and I was not impressed. It was TOO moist, and had little to no flavor. The cream was fluffy and the texture of the cake was good but the flavor was not there whatsoever. Will be returning to try their other delicious cakes! The vibes here late at night are nice too, everyone's just enjoying their desserts and making small talk. read more
One of the few cafes in the north beach area that is actually open till late. There were people grinding away at like 9 pm. It's a cash only spot tho so plan accordingly. I went with a Korean friend and when we were ordering, the cashiers said "Xie xie" to us at the end. It's not like we had bad English or anything it was super uncalled for. :(( The tiramisu here was just alright. Nothing too spectacular but not much to complain about either. I liked the hot apple cider because it was sweet and when they offered cinnamon i asked for very little. It low key kinda tasted like the Costco hot apple cider mix but I'll take it read more

3.5/5 Note: CASH ONLY! TOURIST TRAP? I think yes. Came super late at night on a Thursday right before closing (they have different hours than what is listed on Yelp.) I came solely for the tiramisu but they didn't have it. So instead I got a slice of the Sacrapantina cake and the Brasiliana. The Sacrapantina cake could have been a pass for me. It was drier than I thought it would be. The Brasiliana was a little more moist but nothing that blew me out the waters. Sad because I really wanted to come back and try their tiramisu but it just didn't scratch my Italian cake itch. read more

Super cute café with very friendly staff. I stopped by for a little pick me up and I was quickly greeted by the friendly baristas. We ordered a Strawberry Italian Soda and one Macchiato Espresso. Both drinks were made quickly and we sat down at the much quieter room. The Italian soda was really good and my espresso was strongggggg and it definitely did its job. read more

Fair warning this place only accepts cash. Came here after eating a big meal and had room for dessert and coffee. They made the best Illy coffee and their desserts were the best. Had their Brasiliana cake which reminded me of this Danish bakery cake we used to get in Oakland that shut down years ago. Glad I can find a similar version of this cake we use to call "Cream of Dream". Trying their tiramisu next time. read more
One bite of the Ricotta Cheesecake can transport you back to Europe. Friendly service and open late. Beautiful large dining room, outdoor seating and a large variety of great options to choose from. I really liked the Ricotta Cheesecake. I'm not a fan of typical American cheesecake. Its like a brick and very sugary. This was none of that - although if you like the typical stuff they do offer the North Beach Cheesecake - and although I never tried it I imagine its what most Americans like. Friendly service - there was a line and the people working there were still very patient and helpful. I like that it is open late and has so much space inside. There were two dining rooms - one on a lower level and then one on a higher level that allowed better visibility toward the street. You look over the people on sidewalk and parklet tables. Variety of options. Cannoli and Brasiliana might be great options. Cannoli had chocolate chips mixed in with the filling and the cake is soaked in espresso liqueur and probably so light you don't need teeth to eat it. I would prefer cannolis without chocolate chips - or maybe not mixed in - Whole Foods just puts them on the edges and somehow i like that better. There are many bakeries and gelato places around here - I think what sets this one apart is the large dining room. In SF where space comes at such a cost I'm just not used to seeing something like this. read more
Small cute little Italian caffe! The Affogato Coffee was a sweet treat. The Ice cream and coffee was a great blend. My favorite thing at Caffe Greco was the panini it was a good size and the veggies in the panini were a great addition. The service was also fast there was a long line but they clear the line swiftly. read more
A cool lil spot for some italian desserts! I got the pistachio cheesecake and it was so moist with a strong pistachio flavor. Canoli was also good although I don't have much to compare them to. They're open late and cash only. Will be back to try the tiramisu :) read more
I found this spot on Yelp trying to find somewhere with affogato (It is CASH ONLY). Luckily I had a $10 bill which covered the affogato and tip. It was pretty pricy for a single shot of espresso and ice cream, but it was delicious regardless. read more
Cute little cafe in North Beach with an outdoor patio and two different indoor seating areas 1) by the register and windows 2) off the the side if you're looking for a place to study. They use Illy coffee and make great Mochas. They also serve pastries, gelato and breakfast items however it is cash only. read more
Nice cute bakery open late! Came for dessert after dinner around 10, and they were open until 11. I got the Sacrapantina cake and ricotta cheesecake. It was around $15 for the two. Both were very unique, the sacrapantina was a little sweet for me, but the cheesecake wasn't so it was nice to balance them out. The cheesecake texture was a little more crumbly and less rich than a usual cheesecake, a bit of lemon flavor as well. Great spot for some coffee/desserts! read more

The tiramisu here is really heavy on the dusting of cocoa powder on top, which was a bit too bitter for me, but other than that it was a great slice of tiramisu. The texture was on point and didn't feel heavy at all -- it was super easy to finish between two people. I haven't tried anything else here yet but their paninis look really good so I'd definitely come back for that! This place is cash only btw. When I went the workers at the counter spoke pretty limited English but if you can point at what you want in the display case you should be fine! There's really nice outdoor seating, but pretty limited spots, so it can be hard to snag a table. read more

**heads up, this establishment is CASH ONLY** (they have an atm nearby if you need cash) Caffe Greco definitely drew me in with its cute and traditional Italian cafe looking aesthetics. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and the establishment has two parts. One side serves coffee and seems to have a dedicated few patrons working from the cafe on their laptops and the other side has a large countertop with the views of the pastries and gelato they have. My eyes were set on the tiramisu as I'm a big tiramisu fan and the thought of having a slice while sitting in the cafe was cute (and also of course I also was needing a little snack at the time and I thought a light cake would be perfect!) The tiramisu was fine. It was quite flat with not as many layers as I had anticipated. Flavors were there and it wasn't too too sweet but I think it lacked dimension. I couldn't really separate out the flavors of each layer which I love to be able to do when eating tiramisu. All the flavors that the cake may have just sort of blended into a subtle sweetness throughout. I do not think the coffee flavor is that apparent either. Service was fine and I would come back for the ~aesthetic~ but not for the tiramisu unfortunately. read more

We decided to come here for dessert. It's a brightly lit cafe that's been here for many years. We were able to grab a table, despite it being a bit busy on a Saturday night, and ordered a few lattes, cannolis and a tiramisu. Everything was tasty and perfect for dessert! Nothing was overly sweet. I didn't try the tiramisu, but my friends said it was delicious! My favorite was the light and crispy cannoli with the cream filling. Then washing it down with a mocha latte....ahhh, warm and lightly sweetened. Awesome, lovely way to end the evening in North Beach! read more
Stopped here for dessert with my friends from out of State. We just happened to be walking through Little Italy and thought this looked like the perfect spot. What we weren't aware of until we got to the register, it's CASH ONLY. Would have been nice to see that stated before waiting in line. There is an ATM machine inside if you need to get cash. Thankfully I had my emergency $20, dessert qualifies as an emergency. So with that being said, we bought as much as we could with our 20 to share. Everything in the case looked amazing. We ended up with slices of sacrapantina, cheesecake and brasiliana. The brasilana had a nice espresso liqueur you could taste. Cake and cream were light and had good chocolate flavor. Cheesecake was standard, great graham crust. My favorite was the sccrapantina, the flavors blended well together, the crunch on top was good. Plenty of seating inside, and out as well. Between the 3 of us we cleaned the plates and were happy walking out. Worth a stop, just have your cash ready. read more
Cute little cafe with a good amnt of seating and a good selection of small pastries and desserts! My friend and I ordered a Sacripantina and Tartufo and enjoyed both of them a lot! Personally dug the richer dark chocolate flavor of the Tartufo and thought the Sacripantina was reflective of a coffee sponge cake with layers. Store only accepts cash but it's located in such a great spot for you to sit and enjoy a nice conversation with others! We use to come all the time when I was living in North Beach. I wanted to revisit my old stomping grounds, but was disappointed. Came here after eating a fabulous dinner at Tony's Pizza. Next time we're staying there for dessert. I couldn't imagine they were having an off day on a Friday night. Ok this place really need some QUALITY CONTROL from someone that knows what a cafe latté and a tiramisu should taste like. My cafe latté was all foam, not even a drop of milk - super rich foam and espresso, I mean good job on the foam, but I order the latté because I wanted some milk too. The tiramisu had no flavor, just whipped cream with some coco powder on top; no rum, no coffee, not sweet, nothing, nada. The cannoli was good. They have a good concept of how things are made, but they absolutely have no knowledge of what they should taste like. read more
Caffe Greco is a coffee, sandwich, and desserts place in Little Italy. It's quite a spacious restaurant, but not too busy. The main reason is because of the cash only. I only had enough cash to buy desserts so this review is based on their desserts only. Desserts are really okay. The tiramisu is soft and a little chocolaty. Got a coffee cake as well but did not try it by the time of the review. If it's crazy good, I will edit this review to reflect. Otherwise, assume that's it's okay as well. read more

I tried the cappuccino and tiramisu. This place is cash only and has lots of indoor seating options. I didn't love the cappuccino but the tiramisu was pretty good but I haven't had much tiramisu in my life so I'm not sure how it compares. They had other desserts and breakfast and lunch items so if I came back I would try something savory and then a different dessert. The service was fast and friendly. read more

Nice spot with fast service, lots of space for sitting as well. Came with a big group and had no trouble finding space to accommodate all of us. Caffe Greco is nicely decorated with cool art and a good ambiance. There was many options for desserts, but it's important to note that this place is CASH ONLY. I believe they have an ATM in the room adjacent to the main. I had the cannoli and cappuccino. Cappuccino was good and served hot. Cannoli was just ok, and tried a bite of my friends tiramisu and it did not have a strong expresso or alcohol flavor. All in all, this place is definitely not the most 'authentic' but don't think it claims to be. Cute spot, with decent enough food and drink. read more
