One of my favorite cafes in LA. I started going here in the mornings and can't think of a better way to start the day. They use high quality espresso here. Attn anyone looking for something that comes close to a Melbourne coffee! No contest - absolutely the only cafe worth checking out in LA. No-nonsense atmosphere, wonderful coffee, friendly hip-but-not-attitudonal staff, and good music at a lowish volume (e.g. considerate people). There aren't many tables & chairs, but I haven't had to sit at the benches very often. The bathroom is a nice space too - dimly lit, supplied with good handwash stuff and tissues as well as paper towels. just don't go to Luxxe if you are hungry for breakfast - they only have light pastries and nothing savory. If you want egg breakfast first, go to Marmalade down the road near 7th, fill up on brekky & juice, and then make your way to Luxxe. Oh, and I have nominated the pricing as "moderate" because it's good value for money. read more

Love this place - some of the best espresso in LA and if I am staying on the west side this is usually the spot even if I'm closer to other well known places. You will get a dark, rich, chocolatey espresso rather than the super bright stuff which is most popular these days, the other beverages and pastries are also delicious, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The staff is so friendly and remembers your drink order ( I guess its expected since I do come in twice a day. ) When I travel, I am constantly saying it's no Caffe Luxxe. Has far as espresso goes, Cafe Luxxe has the best in Santa Monica. Yes they are pricey, but if you want to treat yourself this is the place to go. The espresso is sweet without adding sugar and dosen't get bitter. Close your eyes and you could be in Italy. read more

So I checked the place out after a friend told me about it. It is very nondescript outside but thought it might be more impressive inside where it counts. 0 for 2 on that count. The place is SMALL...it is hard to relax there. The person I went with and I sat at an area near the door...the only spot available of the little seating there, and there would occasionally be a stroller coming in that the owner could barely fit in to wheel behind where I was at a bar-type area near the door and the regular tables behind me. The seating, as at least one other yelper mentioned, is uncomfortable. The place, to me anyway, seems too hard like its trying to be cool or something. All grey, metal, uncomfortable chairs? Check. Cool latte art framed on the wall, though, still? Check! The drink, well...it was not bad...but I have gone to a LOT of coffee places and Urth Cafe in SM and Kean Coffee in OC are by far and away better in my book. I would go so far as to say I will probably not come back to this place. There are just to many places much better in their drinks and even their atmosphere than this place. Oh and another thing about the drink? I could barely even taste the coffee/espresso taste! It was way too much of a light or milk type taste. Since I've lived in the Montana Avenue neighborhood forever, I was excited when I read about the opening of Caffe Luxxe. A top notch, professional, Italian style coffee joint, with leaf patterns in the foam! My experience, having gone there about four times, is that the coffee tastes good, but the service is snooty, and once, has been downright rude. Who needs that? Sure, I've seen Madeleine Stowe in there twice, who cares? I take my snooty friend who visits occasionally from the Bay Area there and she loves it. The decor is attractive, reminiscent of Manhattan, but cold. The clientele is often rather snooty, but I've gotten used to this, as it is what my neighborhood has devolved into through the years, sadly. I much prefer the lattes at Via Dolce, and also the organic lattes at Whole Foods coffee counter on Wilshire & 22nd. Why drink coffee with chemicals? Why not get your coffee with a warm smile? read more

Delicious cafe nico, iced shakerato and iced vanilla lattes. A great place to read and study but they don't have wi-fi, which sort of sucks.

IMO this is the best almond milk latte in town! It's a bit expensive, but worth the treat every now and then.

I'm disappointed as a loyal customer at the lack of service at this location. Now don't get me wrong, the coffee is exceptional and if you are a coffee connoisseur and want a fantastic cup of coffee that is been dealt with care - this is definitely the place for you. However, my recent interaction with an employee there was a bit sour and left me not wanting to come back to this location. After standing in line with my girlfriend, a barista looked at me didn't say anything and proceeded not to take my order. I continue to wait but another woman came in and he hopped to attention. Not even acknowledging that we had been there in line waiting. He continued to take her order and serve her, and after he was done then finally got to us. Just not right. I was a little taken aback by this interaction, as the barista's at Caffe Luxxe are nothing but extraordinary and kind. Not the best experience here, so I will continue to go to the Brentwood country Mart. I hope that they address this behavior and sort it out quickly. Such a huge fan of chai and think this place has some of the best in the city. Also if you're into vegan treats then come here as they've got a nice variety to choose from. I always order a plain ol' non-sugarfied latte when I come here. I make a special trip almost every time I'm in Santa Monica to get one. I haven't had any of the other drinks so I can't speak to those, but I can say without question that their lattes are the BEST I've ever had. The best coffee place in Santa Monica. Actually...the best coffee I have ever tasted. This beats Intelligentsia, Peet's, and of course Starbucks. I usually go for the cappucino. It's around $3.50, so a bit steeper than Starbucks. If you add pastries, cookies, etc, it could easily go to $20 or more for 2ppl. But I tell you...the coffee is totally worth it. read more

As I was waiting for my laundry at the laundramat I noticed Caffe Luxxe. I remember going there once when they first opened, but for some reason haven't been back. The barista was warm and friendly and made me a delicious cafe latte. When I inquired about the alfajores cookies he opened the package and handed me one - gratis. Very cool. read more

Are they out of business? I was going to give this place 4 stars but a recent experience led me to the downgrade. So... great coffee, friendly staff. BUT... try reaching this place with a question and it's next to impossible. I've left two VMs in two weeks, with no return call. The contact us portion of their website doesn't work. If you send an email to them using the address they mention on their phone message, it bounces back. It's be unfortunate if they didn't make it, but that's how it appears. If they're still in business, I'd give them one star, given my experience subsequent to my first visit. read more

Feels like you are in a black and white movie while you are in there. After being ignored for a while, we ordered two mediocre lattes and found that there was no place to sit. Finally a woman who was taking up two chairs got up and we got to sit at a bar facing the wall. Lots of fun. Watch out for the moms and their kids. There is an elementary school about a block away and a kids store right next door. Unless you like bitchy Santa Monica parents who think they own the world, I would go somewhere else. read more

Luxxe doesn't look much like other coffee shops (what I'm used to anyway). Tall ceilings, white-washed woods. Reminds me of a big boutique they stuffed coffee shop machines, pastries and people into. But that's good. It was chilled out and peaceful and like a shabby chic 50's doctor's office. The coffee was awesome. Latte was a good balance of foam / sweetness / coffee flavor, and both pastries we (girlfriend and I) had--almond croissant and bran muffin--were perfect. AWESOME coffee. I go here for a little splurge when out in this area. This place was recommended by a client and they were spot on!

This is the only place in SM where I will drink the coffee, it's fantastic. Love their macaroons and almond croissants. They also have a nice selection of unique food items (chocolate and olive oil) that are very difficult, if not impossible, to find elsewhere. The only downside to this place isn't about the place. It's geared towards adults, this is so not a Starbucks type place, and yet there are some people who bring their kids and smile cheerfully as the kids run wild as if it's a playground. Oh, and after a very short time the remember you and your usual drink. It's rather nice that way. read more
