This is a cute little place - stop by for coffee if you're in the area! Had a chai and espresso and both were very, very good, and the espresso was very smooth. The sweets looked wonderful and I wish we had tried some. As far as lunch items go - I'd skip those if I were you. We did a chicken salad sandwich and the Italian tuna salad, both of which were pretty disappointing if I'm honest. There was so much bread in my chicken salad sandwich, and the chicken salad had a very shreddy, pulverized chicken kind of texture... and was yellow and paste-like (weird!). The Italian tuna salad was ordered with the dressing on the side, so I'm thinking maybe the dressing just gets mixed into the tuna and placed on some greens in a typical order... but the tuna was just dry & pulverized ("tuna powder" is what my husband called it). It was placed on some greens with a scattering of some cooked pasta, artichokes, and other stuff that I can't remember... it was kind of odd and didn't seem Italian or appetizing in any way, and I kind of felt bad for my husband while he ate it. I looked at what other people were having for lunch, too, and none of it really looked so great. But the baked goods looked terrific! I visited the Caffe Tosi on my way through St. Joseph for lunch. The place felt like a cozy homegrown coffee shop. People were chatting hanging out in front of the building and everyone inside was smiling and courteous. I ate the margarita pizza and it was delicious! The ingredients and crust tasted fresh and the flavors weren't heavy or overbearing. Overall, it was the cafe that Starbucks tries to emulate. The only downer of this place is that it is very... discovered. Tourists (like myself) were packed inside and so the overall noise level was a few decibels above what I'd like for a cozy lunch break. Great salads and dishes available for pick up in half pound and full pound to-go containers. The food has been good each time I've gone. The folks behind the counter range from very friendly/helpful to somewhat indifferent. Usually the friendly folks are much more common. No one has ever been rude there, to be sure. Massively overrated. I hate to say so, but it's just the truth. I can say this for a fact. Having moved from Chicago, where I made my living as a barista, I can tell you that the owners/staff of Cafe Tosi do not know how to make coffee. Don't bother asking for a cappucino, you will never get anything but a latte with a thin layer of foam. They do not know how to make a cap. I don't even think they know what a cap is. Local coffeehouse with a great sandwich menu. Yelp steered us here on our drive up to Grand Rapids. We've never been fond of heavy, greasy food on roadtrips, so we were happy to find a place that would make fresh yummy sammies for us! I got a veggie muffuleta, Heather chose a roast turkey, and the kids - well, no surprise, went for the 3-cheese grilled cheese. As noted by others here, the bread was stellar, and the sides were an unexpected treat. Pesto pasta salad, feta salad, and a barley salad accompanied the sandwiches, and all three were delightfully fresh themselves. We also grabbed dessert to go: Halloween sugar cookies for the tots, a granola chocolate chip cookie for her, and an almond horn for me. All disappeared quickly. The horn was good enough that I could easily have turned the car around and driven back for another three or four of the same. And I hear the coffee is pretty good, too. ;-) read more

I was disappointed. They had a great concept, and failed to execute. The menu was interesting and exciting but the food was overpriced and bland. My boyfriends standard sandwich was good, but overpriced. The side of barley salad was appreciated but lacked flavor. My portabella sandwich had no seasoning and there was entirely too much bread. I just ate the mushroom because the bread was too much... sadly the mushroom was undercooked. I was also taken aback by how bad the coffee was. I really, really wanted to like this place, but I feel it didn't live up to it's atmosphere and menu. I think people get excited when the see the diversity of the menu and how upscale it sounds... really, it simply wasn't executed very well and I left feeling unfulfilled and jiped. read more

A wonderful little cafe right in the middle of downtown St. Joe. It's small, the menu is small, but that's what makes it GREAT. They serve Illy coffee and espresso, as well as some of their own blends. The food is mostly sandwiches and salads, that are absolutely delicious. The staff and environment is what really does it for this place, it's warm, inviting, and what a cafe should be. I used Yelp to find this treasure in St.. Joseph and I am so glad I did! My boyfriend and I were on a mini vacation; we were looking for some new experiences to put under our belt. Caffe Tosi offers a unique menu in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They steam their eggs in the espresso maker (say what?! But they're really good--kind of like scrambled eggs), the coffee is always hot and fresh, there's always a broad selection of daily specials complimenting the everyday menu, and they sell Bit of Swiss deserts and baked goods (a local bakery that causes me to gain 5 lbs with every bite...in a good way). It often gets very crowded, so be prepared to squish through the restaurant. Or, if it's warm, take your food to go and enjoy the Lake Michigan views right outside the door. The prices are similar to what you'd pay going to a nicer sit down restaurant (you order at the counter here), however, the prices are more than fair for the quality of the food. Ann, the owner, is very conscientious and the staff is friendly and attentive. I cannot recommend Caffe Tosi highly enough. A visit is always at the very top of my priority list when visiting my parents in St. Joseph. read more

I have visited Caffe Tosi on numerous occasions from just grabbing a coffee to go to sampling one of their fresh sandwiches. I have never left disappointed. My personal favorites are their cappucino and fresh cheese croissants. They always have a large selection of fresh food such as antipasti, grilled vegetables and stuffed portobello mushrooms. I have come here a few times and never been that impressed. This time though deserves a review. I waited over 20 min for a portabella lasagna. That was already pre-made. That was extremely annoying. Also as I sat there people watching I noticed the owner (maybe?) get really annoyed with the cashier. Who, in my opinion was doing a great job. I can't imagine how she is spoke too when no one is around. And I may be presumptuous but that is the impression this woman let on. The food was mediocre. It was bland and WAY overpriced. OMG What a Treasure Find!!! The place was actually closed when we stopped in after dinner, but the owner was nice enough to let us in and make us the coffee we wanted. I'm very picky about good coffee, and this was outstanding. When we asked if she served breakfast, the owner mentioned she had "French Toast" - but what she failed to mention was that it was AMAZING absolutely delicious Cinnamon French Toast that is out of this world!! It was by far the best I've ever had. What was different was it was a very cinnamonny swirl bread that was absolutely delicious. The coffee is oustanding. Great place for Breakfast - menu is limited because they appear to be more about quality. The highlights are the French Toast and Waffles. Highly recommend this place!! read more

This is the best coffee shop in southwest Michigan! Free wifi. The coffee is the best and they know how to make macchiato and compano. Have an almond horn from bit of Swiss bakery there. Now that I am a little more knowledgable about the coffee business I can tell that the espresso used isn't very fresh and the drinks aren't built great (our breve had about an inch of foam on top). But that aside, we love the treats here and the friendly faces and so it was again a frequent stop for us during our week in St. Joe :) read more

Cute neighborhood gem with excellent coffee and good menu choices. The bakery items looked delicious. I had a Belgium waffle, simple with no fixings. You can add fruit and sometimes they also offer specials. It was perfectly crisp and light. My husband had a very nice looking tuna melt, and he ate it so fast, it must have been very good. While my children played at the beach I just had to check this place out do to an article that I read in a magazine. I read about the tiramuso. I had to try it. I am glad I did. This is one of the cutest coffee shops you'll ever go to. They have the most delicious pastries, and everything on their food menu looks amazing, from the sandwiches to the desserts. What I go for is the coffee. They always have a few different selections to choose from, with at least one unique flavor.
