As someone who has judged hundreds of food entries over the years and eaten meatloaf at diners, cafes, and country restaurants all across the Triad, I can honestly say this was the worst meatloaf I've ever been served. I ordered the meatloaf special of the day, expecting a comforting Southern classic. Instead, I was met with a dense, mushy loaf topped with an overwhelming layer of ketchup. The texture was unpleasant, the flavor was one-dimensional, and the overall dish was simply not enjoyable. The mashed potatoes were equally disappointing. They tasted like instant potatoes straight from a box with little seasoning and no richness. The green beans appeared to come directly from a can and even contained a few hard pieces that should have never made it to the table. The cucumber salad was far sweeter than it should have been, overpowering any fresh cucumber flavor. Worse, the cucumbers themselves appeared visibly old and lacked the crispness that makes a cucumber salad refreshing. The cornbread was another miss. It was so dry and sponge-like that it practically absorbed all moisture the moment it hit your mouth. To be fair, the vegetable soup was the bright spot of the meal. It had good flavor and tasted homemade. The drinks were also good, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the visit. The dining room itself felt very cramped, which added to an already underwhelming experience. I understand that everyone has different tastes, but after years of evaluating food and countless meals throughout the Triad, this was one of the most disappointing restaurant meals I've had in recent memory. The soup and service kept this from being a one-star review, but unfortunately the food did not live up to the restaurant's reputation.

Service - great, fast, friendly Restaurant is exactly what you expect and want it to be - vinyl booths, lots of chatter, and good people. Food was underwhelming this time. Hash browns had no flavor. Biscuit was ok but only lukewarm. Eggs and bacon were the highlight. Eggs were perfectly runny. Bacon wasn't overcooked and the right amount of crisp. Compared to spending $15 bucks at Starbucks next door, this breakfast with coffee was a steal. Will definitely be back.

The evening service is getting worse every time my mom and I come in. I wish they would train there servers better to fill drinks and bring silverware to the table without asking for it.

Very disappointed that when we meant that they didn't have the same menu as other cagneys in the area. They also put us in a side room where they had a larger party seated and it was so loud. The food was fine. But since it wasn't what we went for it was disappointing, will probably go back because it's convenient and food is decent but we were unable to get past those things for a better review. No chicken pie every day is poor planning on their part.

The livermush was more delicious than expected and the biscuit was yummy with gravy making it even better. The sunny-side up eggs were also delicious but the grits were just okay. Overall, the livermush is worth trying and the food was good in general despite that the inside looking a bit outdated.

Good portion sizes of food that tastes great. Veggie omelette is chunky. Biscuit is homemade and fresh, big warm and flaky. Service is prompt, and coffee is hot. Nice casual environment for a leisurely breakfast.

Our new leashes and we drove all the way to Hanging Rock on your recommendation.

Food was ok but our server, dubbed "Flamingo Girl" because of her amazing earrings, was OUTSTANDING. Thank you for the great service and conversation. Very best to you and your little family. I'll think of you when I see my little chunk and also when I watch fall football linebackers.

    Soooo much food.

What a find!!! Amazing food, great diner atmosphere and friendly service. Biscuits and gravy are awesome with southern hospitality.

We came here about 10:30am on a Sunday. We were looking for someplace different to check out and my wife found this place. Cagney's Kitchen is a small chain in the Winston-Salem area consisting of about 10 locations. Some are just Cagney's Kitchens, some are Cagney's Kitchen and Pizzeria and some are Cagney's Kitchen, Pizzeria and BBQ. This location is simply a Cagney's Kitchen. This restaurant is in what I believe is normally a pretty busy area near the hospital. On a Sunday morning, not so much. However, when we arrived it was apparent Cagney's was busy. The parking lot is small, tight and was very close to full but we found a spot. The entry is covered and opens to the dining area and host counter. The inside appears very cramped and dated but everything appears to be clean. We were seated promptly in a small two person booth, provided menus and offered drinks. We checked out the menu which was pretty basic but included about everything you might normally want for breakfast. My wife decided to get the farmers omelet with no cheese, a side of gravy for me and a biscuit. I chose the chicken fried steak and eggs with wheat toast. Our food arrived promptly and looked good and hit the spot. My wife really enjoyed her meal and thought the flavor of the omelet and the flakey biscuit was delicious. The chicken fried steak hit the spot for me as well. If you are looking for a diner type experience this fits the bill, nothing fancy but the food is solid and the prices are right.

    French Toast Special

My family has been BIG fans of this Cagney's location for years. They are the classic breakfast diner with consistently great food and service. My favorite is the French Toast breakfast special. It comes with eggs and your choice of meat. It is the perfect size and always cooked to order. If you like biscuits, you'll definitely want to give theirs a try. Also, the coffee is always fresh. The staff at this location is very personable, prompt and attentive. Heads up: 1.) the parking lot can get a little tight. Be sure to check the parking spaces on the side and in the back. 2.) I wouldn't advise a group larger than about 6. It can get a little tight inside.

Good breakfast and they sell beer in the morning, which is great for those of us who work all night.

My husband was browsing Yelp looking for a great burger and the recent reviews were enough to get our attention to stop in for a late lunch. It was 2:30pm on a Thursday and the hours posted online say they are open until 5:00pm but the hours posted on the door say until 3:00 so we just made it under the wire. They kind owners also let more people come in after 3:00 and didn't seem to mind. Both our burgers were made to order and super hot and fresh. They had shredded lettuce, mayo, and tomato. They have ketchup bottles on the tables so it's easy to add to your burger if desired. The shredded lettuce and tomato were ice cold which is the best! My bacon cheddar burger came with a super generous 3 slices of perfectly crispy bacon. My husband got a side of Mac and cheese while I got a side of fries. The Mac was good and after a sprinkle of pepper was just tasty. The fries were hot from the fryer and piping hot. I loved everything about my lunch here today. Super casual but really friendly and just genuinely great food made with care and quality that seems more and more rare these days. On top of all that the price can't be beat. I think one of the only drawbacks from Murphys lunch is parking. There are a few curbside spots right in front of but if those are taken there is a public parking garage 1/2 block away. If you've never tried this place, I urge you to go.

Cafe Arthur's has a few other great sounding burgers on their menu beyond this smash burger I ordered. I've had the Burger Basket there a few years ago with the onion rings and loved it so of course the onion rings had to be the side again. Ask for the spring mix to be subbed with shedded iceberg for that crunch of lettuce too. Honestly, I'm not here to yuck anyone else's yum but SPRING MIX?? On a burger??? Who does that? Other than that one change the burger was perfect. Loved every bite. It's big though, two 4 oz patties and all the other toppings on a toasted sesame seed bun. I could only eat half of the burger and onion rings so I had a nice to go box I took home and my son finished it for his dinner. Our service was friendly and quick. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately. They had a good crowd on a Friday night around 6:30pm. The parking at Cafe Arthur's can be a bit challenging. They have spaces surrounding the building but also share a parking lot with other businesses so you might have to park a little further during peak times but not that far. Go give them a try if you haven't been or if it's been a while.
