This restaurant ALWAYS hits the spot. Its worth the 35 minute drive for me. I think they close at 2pm for breakfast/lunch. I've been here 4x's so far and I looovveee the jambalaya. It is just the right amount of spicy and their shrimp po'boy sandwich is amazing too. So hard to choose so I get both. They have this great deal too where for $20 you get mimosas (bottle of champagne and your choice of different juices; oj, cranberry, and pomegranate) and beignets. I usually split this with my hubby and then we're buzzed so we go spend some money at the thrift stores along the street. I always want to try something new but this meal just tastes so great and I look forward to it. The service is always excellent and the food comes out very fast. The beignets are ultra delicious! Powdered sugar will make it look like you just shedded some fresh gnar but that's alright. Had the Breakfast burrito # 3,which is the vegan one, can't go wrong with the burrito, Soyrizo was great. Had an Arnold Palmer, not sure if either the tea or lemonade was homemade but if it was, it was delicioso. My girlfriend got the waffle with walnuts, she said she liked it. The cafe was busy for a Sunday morning, so we decided to sit outside since it was a nice sunny day. The food was great. My New Orleans omelet was spicy with lots of flavor. My wife ordered the apple.sausage and eggs. The sausage was delicious and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The only downside of our visit was when the server brought out my son's hot chocolate. He failed to mention it was very hot and he burned his tongue. In my opinion a kids hot chocolate should be served at a kids safe temperature. Other than that, very delicious breakfast. Came across this spot and thought we'd give it a try for Sunday breakfast. We walked in and sat down right away. If your party is less than four people they won't sit you in a booth unless requested. Not sure if we came at a time where servers were switching shifts but it took forever to get our order taken as well as the check later on. However, I think it's a nice local stop for some decent food. I got the eggs benedict with the eggs perfectly runny. Their home fries are killer highly recommend, right amount of seasoning and crisp. Cajun Kitchen Café always is one of those places that always has a long wait, but I don't mind. I've gone here with numerous friend groups and all of them have liked this location (granted I could get them to wait out the massive wait times to get into this restaurant). Food wise, this is the only place in Ventura County where I can find good gumbo and grits done right (ironically i haven't taken a picture of the gumbo though). They have the best Louisiana/Cajun/Creole cuisine that I've tasted here in Southern California. I might not be the best judge of that though. I sometimes tag along with friends when they go here even though I've already eaten breakfast. In those instances I'll pig out on fresh beignets and coffee while everyone else is eating brunch. The vibe here is so conducive to hanging out and catching up that I just want to be here all the time. Location wise, Cajun Kitchen is situated in the middle of downtown Ventura, so there's plenty of things to do after. I like to grab coffee next door (Palermo) and then walking up and down main street. read more

I learned about this cafe chain while I was in Santa Barbara several years ago, and I decided to stop by this location on our way up to Santa Barbara. This location is smaller than the SB ones, but it is at the edge of the downtown area, so parking is not as hectic. The service here was very nice. Our lady was super nice, attentive, and on point. The food was just as good as I expected it to be. I ordered the eggs benedict, and it was very good. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the Ventura area. read more

We visited this café on the ride home from Santa Barbara, CA but were not able to even get a table. We had a party of 10 and were told it would take 30 minutes. During this wait we kept seeing parties leaving and parties with less than 10 being seated whom arrived after us. After the 30 minutes, we checked on our table's status but were told by the hostess, it would be 30 more minutes. My wife pointed out our observations to the hostess who then brought over the manager without request. My wife our observations to the manager; he didn't even think about it for a second and responded to her, "it'll be 30 more minutes" before he walked away. Its so not cool to do that to anyone and we had 4 children with us and a senior. My opinion, tread lightly on this place. Horrible customer service! read more

I love writing positive reviews! It was my sister's bachelorette and we ordered over the phone to pick up for brunch. The girl on the phone was so friendly that I wanted to hang out with her! She got the order down perfectly right away and was very accommodating. We picked up the hot food and paid and brought it back to the house. It was a busy weekend morning, and the staff were very friendly and attentive from the start. Drinks came out almost immediately, and the food came out so fast. Everything was correct, cooked perfectly, and the server was so friendly. Drinks refilled without even having to ask! On another note, I'm obsessed with corned beef hash and am always looking for a spot that gets them right. They have a huge brunch menu here, 3xs as big as the lunch/dinner menu. This was a lovely brunch today! I got a mimosa and jambalaya with eggs over medium and warm cornbread that came out melt ya butta steaming. So so good, but yup, I burned my mouth a little. My mom got the same but with tortillas for gluten free and that looked good to dip so I may try next time. Little sister got the breakfast sandwich and hashbrowns which was a huge loaded up beast to eat. Avocado, meat, lots of egg, tomato, onion, etc it was bigger than most burgers. Hashbrowns were crispy and golden, perfect. Our server was good for the beginning, then the second half of our meal she went pretty MIA. My coffee cup remained hot and full which is always welcome and appreciated. I had the biscuits and gravy breakfast. I was a bit sad and disappointed because the biscuits I received were not light and fluffy. Quite the contrary, the biscuits were pretty hard, dry and dense. Hard, dense biscuits are not really welcome with a good order of biscuits and gravy. You want light, fluffy, and airy biscuits that are moist. I did inquire with my server regarding the texture of the biscuits. He verified that the texture of biscuits I had received is what they offer. Due to the dry, hard biscuits I had to give a 4 star rating. Everything else about my visit was great. I hope a good southern buttermilk biscuit recipe change is in the near future. Going to start by saying the people that work at Cajun kitchen are family to me. You can find me here every Sunday at 12 noon after church. My bestie and I own a Aesthetician business so every Sunday we meet to talk about the plans for the up coming week. We also invite other friends to come as well. I been here over 50 times and I always get the catfish or the omelette with the Spicy bacon bloody mary to drink. Trust me it's bomb!!! I don't know who made up the mix but it's the best I've had!!!. So for me personally I can't comment on other things but my friends have told me over all they do have amazing food. I know for sure they have a short wait on a Saturday & Sunday. So I suggest show up early or send somebody to go get your name on the wait list. Over all this place is a must if you visiting or live in Ventura. As always this is my experience and opinion. This time I got the fried chicken Benedict which comes with thick slices of bacon and smothered with rich gravy, on a delicately sweet biscuit. It looked beautiful, but tasted so good that there was no time for pictures. Just heavenly! The shrimp and andouille grits also looked amazing, can recommend both.
